"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

advice

Recently i had computer problems and basically my dad wiped my computer clean and i have a new hard drive (btw i want to kill my father for this!)

I had to download itunes back onto this computer and was able to sign back into my account, but all the songs from my ipod won't transfer into my library. That doesn't bother me, but it will not let me sync new songs onto my ipod.

When I try to sync it says I can erase the contents of my ipod and sync whats in the library (less then half of my songs), or transfer purchases from my ipod to the library. I choose the second chose and then it tells me I need to authorize my computer. I've authorized it ten times and it tells me that this computer has already been authorized. I don't know what to do! I'd try talking to itunes customer service, but I've dealt with them before and its a big hassle.

Can anyone help?

Also, disable automatic updating on your iPod [its one of the options when you plug your iPod into iTunes]. You'll have to add new songs manually - drag and drop - but it's much easier in my opinion, and you can add music from any computer this way.

your making out and your like drooping on eachother (lol). how do you prevent it

Swallow once in awhile. It sounds awkward as anything, but it's really not. After a couple tries it'll pretty much be second nature.

Also, some people enjoy sloppy, wet kisses [hey, everyone has their preferences!] so if neither of you mind it, drool away ;] Just not in excessively public places, yuck.

I have been dating my boyfriend for about a week now. The only thing is that i have a moustache that is sorta dark and a lot of people notice it i'm sure. It's really embarrising because i don't want him to see it. I can't do anything about it. I'm not gonna wax, shave or bleach it. What do i do? I'm scared that he will be grossed out by it and break up with me. Help!

A lot more people have hair on their lip than you realize. However, since you've ruled out every option for removal [besides Nair, but that burns and smells] you can't really do anything about it.

Waxing is slightly painful but lasts a long time. Plus, the hair grows back less and less, and you won't feel self-conscious. Whatever you do, DO NOT shave it. Ever.

If he's dating you, he isn't grossed out by you. Keep that in mind =)

i was on the depo shot for 6 months and gained 15 pounds. i am terrible at remembering the pill ( plus im concerned about the weight gain) and the nuva ring is really uncomfortable( and im concerned about the weight gain) if i use spermicide and a condom every time i have sex should i be okay? just trying to get unbiased opinions here.

As long as you're using them correctly there is a very slim chance, just keep in mind that the chance is there.

The right birth control pill won't make you gain a substantial amount of weight. I went on Yaz and barely gained a pound. The benefits of it outweighed [hah] the possible side effect of weight gain [also, some women lose weight!]. It's helpful to take your pill with you brush your teeth becauseit becomes part of your routine. Cell phone reminders are also helpful.

Anyway, to be even more protected agaist pregnancy, I'd try out a couple different brands of the Pill. In many cases, your gyno will give you samples before a prescription is written, so it will cost you only the trip to the doctor. Otherwise, be sure you're using condoms properly [as well as removing them the right way] and use the spermicide according to the directions.

i think witch craft is really evil in highschool theres this girl that was fascinated by it and even said that she was one. so then i knew that i shouldnt be hanging out with her. but then i am curious. if she was a witch could she like not become one anymore. or is that somesort of like permanent thing. i feel like this is a really rude topic but i was curious and wanted to know something more intelligent about it.

You're probably thinking of the Wiccan religion. While I've heard of those who practice it being called witches, it's not the kind you're thinking of, the double-double-toil-and-trouble, burned at the stake type.

From what I've read [the Blue is for Nightmares series is terrific] it's a very peaceful, nature-oriented religion. It's always seemed to me to be a lot like using scents and colors to relax/inspire and such.

Me and my girlfriends are making Junior tshirts for spirit day at our school.

On the front we're each going to have a letter(J, U, N, I, O, R) spelling out Junior. We're trying to think of cute sayings to go on the back that kind of go along with junior year.

HELP!! :)

A lot of us are putting "Jun10rs" and "Perfect Ten" on ours. Use fabric paint in your school colors too.

my girlfriend is comeing over soon n shes sick so she doesnt think we should makeout bc she doesnt want me to get sick, but im diein for her to! how can i convince her its ok?

Well, you can tell her that you don't care about getting sick. That may or may not convince her.

Also, it's not as fun to kiss when it's hard to breathe through your nose. You have to stop a lot and breathe, it's just not as exciting. So, if you forgo the heavy makeout session for a day or two, you'll both enjoy it a lot more =D

How important to colleges is volunteer work?

It depends entirely on the college. It definitely is a good, positive thing to have on your transcript.

Check www.collegeboard.com and search for the college[s] you're interested in. There's specific information about being accepted to each, and it ranks how important factors such as class rank, volunteer work, your interview, etc. is to your application.

Ok, well when my mom was trying to help get my internet back she accidently gave my computer a system recovery. So now all my songs on my itunes are gone and also the folder in which I kept them in too is gone. So you know how when you hook up your ipod to the computer to sync your songs? Well is there a way where I can still add songs to my ipod where the syncing doesn't delte all my songs? Like for example when I sync my songs all the songs I just got gets in my ipod and the ones I deleted gets deleted from my ipod, but since all my songs are gone I don't want all my songs to disappear from my ipod.

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=528183

I wrote that awhile ago, so your iPod might have more than six folders. But use the same method.

If you have a very large iPod, you may have 'duplicate' file names, in which case you should create a second folder to copy the music files to.

where can I get this Vitamin E stuff you mentioned for the scaring from acne

Anywhere that sells vitamins/supplements.
CVS/Target/WalMart/Hannaford/etc.

They'll just say vitamin E on them, I'm petty sure they're called softgels, or maybe like gel-filled caplets or something. Don't pay too much for them, a generic version is fine.

Okay, so I had an optometrist appointment today and my vision kinda SUCKS. There's no doubt that I need glasses and we're getting a second opinion on surgery for wandering eyes. So, because those pesky little pupils seem to have minds of their own x] contacts are out. Doctors orders. I don't mind that though.
Soo I need help finding a pair of frames that I'll actually wear. Glasses just don't look good on me. I've had them before. I don't want a plain old plastic pair, or teensy tiny metal rims. I want something DIFFERENT. Liike, shazaam!
A girl at my school has sort of like Steve Urcle glasses, but she can actually pull it off.
So any tips? What would match me?
Ohh, the pictures are sort of outdated, but you get an idea at least :]

Try on lots of pairs at the eye doctor [or LensCrafters or Target Optical, wherever you go]. Thick frames will give you the "shazaam" you're looking for. Don't even look at rimless glasses or thin wire frames. Black frames are easy to match to a lot of outfits, but a crazy print is more fun [and easier to clash with outfits]. Find the right shape for your face [squared edges or rounded edges] and bring a friend along for a second opinion.

at the top of my head sorta towards the back my hair feels kind of sticky, and the strands are al stuck together. it looks oily/greasy like i havent showered, but when you feel it it feels kind of sticky. i shower everyday and i dont think i did anything different to cause this?!! does anybody know whats wrong and how i can make it go away?! i shower everyday so idk what it is!!

A lot of people don't always reach every part of their scalp with their shampoo. Be sure that you're getting shampoo and suds over every inch of your hair, focusing on the roots. Try getting a clarifying shampoo, as well, if the problem continues. It removes buildup and as the name suggests, clarifies your hair.

Is there any medication, gel/pills, I can take (preferrably gel) that i can use to take away scars. I don't want any laser treatment for that is ridiculously expensive!

Vitamin E (taken as both a supplement or rubbed into your skin) works well. I used this method after I had surgery, and I just broke open a vitamin E softgel everyday and rubbed it on.

Retin-A [a prescription] increases the turnover rate of your skin's dead cells. It's pretty much an all-purpose product, because it also reduces/prevents wrinkles and heals acne.

Acne scars can be reduced/prevented by using salicylic acid, and I've put spot treatments on cuts [it'll sting, but it seems to work for me] to minimize scarring there, too. Using Neosporin also helps your skin heal faster & prevents scars.

Remember too, that most scars fade significantly with time, and you notice them far more than other people will. I promise =]

and i used to be overweight and i worked out and stuff and now im like normal and im skiny now.. I Droped 34 pounds in 4 months but i worked really hard and so i know it all paid off and stuff but i havnt gotton my period this month idont know why.
Can anyone tell me some reasons..
mayb im not eating much?
idk.
help?:).

More likely than anything else it's because you lost so much weight.
Losing weight throws your cycle off; the same thing happened to me.
If it doesn't even out again in a few months, talk to your doctor about it.
You might be underweight, or need medication to regulate your cycle.

whats a good place i can eat on a date, with no messy foods and not to expensive, and you dont have to reserve food, and you can be 15 and get in?

Chili's, Cheesecake Factory, TGI Fridays.

If you've been dating for awhile [in other words you aren't trying to impress them anymore =P] something as casual as a buffet will appeal to any craving, and you can eat all you want. I don't know where you're from, but Wright's Farm in northern Rhode island is a great place for a group date: all-you-can-eat chicken/salad/pasta/french fries/rolls for about $13 a person.

Okay so a while back, maybe 6-8 months ago there was this song on Vh1 and MTV that I really liked. Now I suddenly(lol) really want to listen to the song! I have a bit of info that I remember about the song/video so if you could help me then, well, please do!

INFO:

-The artist was a guy and he didn't have a band, it was just him

-I could swear that his name had a "Turk" in it or something like that.

-I can't remember what the song was about but the music video was about all these kids playing war in a daycare. It was like, trying to portray real war but in a kid version. It was showing toy planes being thrown into block buildings and such.

-I think that(I can't remember where I got this from) the guy was originally from another band but went off on his own

-And lastly, the guy was really weird haha. He had a sort of odd voice but it worked. And he had a longish last name.

Please help :)

Was it Serj Tankian's 'The Unthinking Majority' or 'Empty Walls??
He was originally in System of a Down.

What are some extra-curricular activities that colleges look for/like? Im a freshman, so I just wnat to start taking stuff that will benifit me in the future.

In addition to what Jack said, it's helpful to hold an officer position in one or more clubs; i.e. vice president of Student Council, as opposed to simply being a member.

I have the env2 (and have only had it since August 17th-ish), and every now and then it randomly shuts off. How do you fix this? Has this happened to any other env2 owners?

-Thanks! :)

I had another phone by LG [same company] and it was a battery issue. A lot of times that means the phone is defective. It might still be under warranty so I'd take it to the service counter and ask.

I was staying at my dad's house and some bug kept biting me during the night. I ended up with lots and lots of very itchy bug bites that were very uncomfortable. I decided that I would purchase an allergy medication at the local Wal-Mart to help the itchiness die down.

I purchased Claritin after looking through the allergy section. They had Benadryl, Claritin, Allegra, and Zyrtec. I chose the Claritin because it was affordable and had the non-drowsy plus.

I had just woken up 2 hours prior to making it back home with the Claritin. I took it as directed and within an hour I was knocked out. I ended up sleeping for a good 12 hours straight, if not a longer. I checked the packaging and it claims that the drowsiness is NOT a side effect at all.

I didn't take anything else with the Claritin. I felt completely fine before taking the Claritin. It was like the light switch turned off all of a sudden and stayed that way for 12 hours. I've decided to not take Claritin anymore because of this reason.

Can anyone tell me what happened? Am I allergic to an ingredient in Claritin? Is this side-effect just an extremely rare case?

Medication affects everyone differently. Ny-Quil, for example, makes some people extremely hyper.

Claritin never works for me. It's also designed to be more of a daily medication for chronic allergies. Benadryl would have been a better choice (unless of course you're allergic, but allergies to allergy medicine are very rare). The generic version [Target or walmart brand, for example] is about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of the brand-name, and works just as well.

When I go on a road trip I get very ill and vomit. I don't like to vomit, of course, so I try to avoid going on long trips. Motion sickness is awful!

My family has planned a nice vacation in a couple of weeks. The problem is that the trip will be a few hours long and I'm afraid I'll get car sick again. I always get carsick after being in the car longer than an hour so I'm pretty certain I'm going to end up ill.

How can avoid getting carsick this time?
I know there is medications to preventing carsickness but I'm not sure of the names of those medications. I know they're actually for motion sickness, but what are the names of a few affordable medications?
Is there anything else I can do besides taking medication for motion sickness?

Dramamine works wonders. It's expensive, but the generic version is wicked cheap and is the exact same thing.

Also, focusing on the front windshield of the car can help. Try bringing an iPod to distract you, and avoid focusing on things INSIDE the car (it'll make you dizzy faster). If you can sleep in the car, do that. Also, if you can drive, ask your parents if you can do some of the driving. I get motion sickess pretty badly, but if I'm driving, all my focus is on the road, and I don't notice at all.
