Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. I've been cutting for a couple years now but lately it has been getting worse. I told a teacher, who is my friends mom on terms that she wouldn't report me or tell anyone because she isn't a teacher 24/7 so I was talking to her as my friend's mom. Well that was fine but I told her I would try to stop and if it got worse we could get me help. So I was wondering how your mom / dad or parent reacted when they found out. Or what happens when you go to a school consulor. Thanks.

First, I would like to congratulate you on telling somebody. That must have been very difficult. It was very brave of you to do so.

Second, if your parents are anything like mine they will flip their lids. My parents freaked when they found out. What happened with me was that I was really upset one day at school and (for some stupid reason) I started doing it in the back of class. My teacher noticed and said something to guidance who, in turn, informed my parents. My parents just kind of talked to me about it and nothing really happned after that.

The councilor doesn't have a choice, they MUST inform your parents. It's the law... or, ya know, something along those lines.

Your parents reaction depends on your parents. They could be completely nonchalant about it or they could act the way I would hope most parents would act when they think their child may be depressed. They may have you see a therapist or they may not. It all depends...

Once again, it's great that you told somebody and I really hope this problem goes away for you. It's a tough battle. I've done it on and off for four years. It's not something I do quite often, but it's there when I need it. I suppose cutting is an addiction of sorts and I hope you can solve yours.

Is the saying "Slow poke" or "Slow coach"? cause my friends usually say slowpoke but my boyfriend says it's slow coach,..so which is it? Slow coach makes sense but slow poke sounds much cuter and betetr ^^

To be honest, I don't remember. I do remember learning the exact answer to your question sometime my junior year but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

I'm also sure that since your first question was up for so long without any answers then this question probably won't get very many, if any.

So, although I can not tell you exactly what you're looking for, I can tell you that if you ask one of your history teachers they will probably know the answer or at least give you a better understanding of why nobody did anything.

I don't know if it was that we didn't notice until too late, maybe the other countries didn't realize it had gotten so far out of control, maybe they didn't care... the only way to know the "proper" answer is to ask a history teacher or another history buff. I do apologize for wasting your space by answering with something you probably could have come up with on your own. But this is not the first time you've asked and it seemed nobody was helping at all so I just wanted to reinforce how if you discuss this with your teacher or others in history classes they could be of a lot more help than you would think.

To answer all of those would take quite some time.
I first suggest that if you are having trouble in your math class then to ask your teacher for extra help. I also understand that there truly are bad teachers and asking yours for help isn't always an option. I've asked math teachers that aren't mine for help before - they're pretty nice people.

If you type any of these questions into a search engine such as google or yahoo you can find what you're looking for.

Because all I can do is type an answer I am unable to show you most of what you are asking.

Box and whisker plots are literally a rectangle with whisker like lines coming out from both ends. Just google "Box and whisker plot" and you can find sites and examples.

If I knew enough html to create a website or if I had some sort of smartboard connection that I could show you I would; some of this is just too difficult to show you online.

Websites and math teachers (yours or a friends) would be the most helpful in your situation.

how can i become more comfortable with public speaking?

If you're still in high school you can take speech and debate classes.

If not you can always look online for methods. Just google "public speaking help".

I'm in a speech and debate class just because I love speaking and debating topics. For a lot of people in my class they're in it to become more comfortable. It's a great way to meet new people and become a lot more comfortable in front of a large group of people.

My best friend of 15 years was acting a little cozy with my 17 year old son over the summer. Even against countless warnings, she still continued with her behavior. Of course this situation blew up resulting in her husband threatening to leave her and me and her not speaking for over a month. We did resume our friendship a little over 2 months ago, with her convincing everyone that we were imagining things. Recently however I discovered that she has been emailing my son ever since the situation began. Her husband found some emails and did not speak to her for 3 days. I on the other hand had no knowledge at all (even about the recent development with her husband) until I checked my sons email account where I found her latest email stating that her husband found out and she could not email for awhile. I confronted her and she stated that she felt like he needed a friend. The advice she gave to him resulted in a complete anarchy from my son. I feel extremely betrayed and she is acting as if she did nothing wrong. Do I end this friendship?

If I were in the same position as you I would probably end the friendship and do what I could to make sure my son kept his distance from her.

If there is anything more than this e-mail relationship going on then you could threaten legal action if she refused to end this inappropriate contact with your son.

There is no 100% way to make sure your son doesn't e-mail her because he could easily make new e-mail accounts or just continue on. Even if you took away the home computer he could use a public one. What you have to do is stress the importance of just keeping away from her to him. She sounds like she needs some therapy...

Anyway, if I were in your position I would keep both myself and my son away from her. In the end it's all up to you though.

There was a story on the internet a few years ago about how a girl was riding with her boyfriend and he was drinking or something and they hit a car and she was dying and she wanted the nurse to tell her mom she loved her or something along those lines, and the people in the other car didnt make it and it ended up being her parents. Jenny was so happy about the house they had found.
For once in her life 'twas on the right side of town.
She unpacked her things with such great ease.
As she watched her new curtains blow in the breeze.

How wonderful it was to have her own room.
School would be starting, she'd have friends over soon.
There'd be sleep-overs, and parties; she was so happy.
It's just the way she wanted her life to be.

On the first day of school, everything went great.
She made new friends and even got a date!

The nurse just stood there - she never agreed.

But took Jenny's hand with tears in her eyes
And a few moments later Jenny died.
A man asked the nurse, "Why didn't you do your best
To bid that girl her one last request?"

She looked at the man with eyes oh so sad.
"Because the people in the other car were her mom and dad.
This story is sad and unpleasant but true,
So young people take heed, it could have been you.

The Good Samaritan Doctrine wouldn't cover the girl with the ping pong table. Since she didn't have anything life threatening going on, it would have been best to leave her be and call the ambulance.
Pretty sad it has to be that way. Seems folks can sue for just about anything these days. I wager if your friend wouldn't have moved the table, they would have still tried to sue for emotional damages. :(

By the way, I hope I'm right that you asked that question. I saw S_C in my feedback and assumed, since you are the only S_C I know. ;)

I answered your report but I'm unsure of what to do. If I were you, like I said in the report, discuss this with DN. If I were in the same place you are I'd be nervous too. Dangernerd can probably ease your nerves or at least figure out something. Just remember you shouldn't be too trusting with people on the internet. I may say I'm 17 and a high school senior but I could be some 42 year old freak guy who is in love with little girls (I promise I'm not, but you can never be too sure). Even with the users on advicenators. Yeah, I've been on this site for 3, almost 4, years and I've probably gotten comfortable with all of the users, but can we really ever be sure?

First of all, if he got you drunk and raped you then you need to file charges. Even if you consented he took advantage of you getting you drunk and there are laws against that.

Second of all, no matter how tight you were he entered you taking your virginity. Even if your hymen doesn't break (which it probably did that night or in the past... you don't need sex to break a hymen) you are still no longer a virgin. Even if it's rape your virginity is gone.

No birth control is 100% except abstinance which is not having sex. Basically, yes, you could get pregnant.

About the abortion clinic - If you are pregnant I would advice against it and instead give up any child you may have for adoption. But to answer your question, you do not always have to have a parent present to have an abortion althought it is strongly recommended. I actually have abortion clinic information on my home computer under my favorites because a friend asked me for information but I am at school and don't have access to that information currently. There are age laws to get an abortion without consent but, like I said, I don't have that information on me. It depends on your age and location I'm sure.

If you want to send me a private question looking for more abortion information you can do that and I'll answer it when I get home. If you don't send me a private question then I'll probably forget.

If this happened last night then you may still have a chance to get a rape kit done, but if it happened a while ago then any sign of fluids in your vaginal area will probably be gone. If there is any physical sign of a struggle they may be able to use that. Otherwise everything will just kind of become hearsay.

I'd probably wait a few weeks and take a home pregancy test. If that comes up negative then I'd wait a few more weeks and take another just to make sure. If you are stressed a lot then your period will usually be delayed so you can't always count on that. Also, a doctor told my friend (when she thought she was pregnant) that getting your period isn't always a sign of not being pregnant. Anyway, if you're really worried, and I suggest this - go to a parent, a doctor, the police... you need to tell somebody.

Hey! My university application has to be in tomorrow, so I need your help quick! I'm sending my application online, so the only thing that needs to be sent my snail mail are my grades and the SAT-stuff but thats being sent from the agency so whatever, the question is: how do you send the appliction fee? Do you send it as a check that you put in the envelope with the grades? Or is there somewhere on the online-application where you write in your visa card number and they automatically charge you? Since you said you're sending your application online you should be able to pay by credit card online. For all of my college applications I did them online and the very last page of the application was the payment information. Once I submitted my application (I think it happened after my application was submitted) something came up about paying. Or it was the last page of the application, I don't remember it was 2-3 months ago when I applied. Anyway, it will have a page w here you can type in your credit card information.

I want to change my settings on Facebook so that it's not my full name, just my first name and the first letter or my last name or something so that it only says "Jess R". I know it can be done, but I tried doing it by going to 'account' and changing it, but it said it needs to be a full name. I hear you can go to the privacy settings and change it, but I tried that and I'm not really sure what to do. Anyone know how to change it to just your first name and last initial? It would be greatly appreciated. =)

I've done it where it says that you must have a last name. The people will usually just approve of it, at least they did for me.

I had changed mine from my full name to Kate C, back to my full name. I think it's smart of you to only want your last initial. Giving out your full name online can be very dangerous.

17/f. A little over a month ago I was hospitalized for suicidal thoughts. I was there for a week and then did out-patient therapy for a week. I was after school late and I finally had enough of feeling like that. So I went and talked to a teacher. I have talked to him before about my panic attacks and mood swings. So, I've been out of therapy. But I'm still feeling really depressed and I have been getting panic attacks again(I'm on meds). I almost just cut myself, but I just scratched my arm til it went red. I also snap my wrist with a hairtie til it goes red and numb. I can't go back into therapy. I just need to talk to someone. It's just, I could talk to my teacher but if I tell him about my arm, and something else that may happen, can he keep it confidential, as long as I am not suicidal? I feel like I just need to talk and I really can't go back inpatient or outpatient. Can he not tell someone as long as I'm not suicidal? To what extent can he keep something confidential? He is someone I can talk to; I don't open up to people very often, especially if they aren't people I know. So...yeah.

With what you're describing, technically he would have to tell.

Although, I was in the same position as you are about 3/4 years ago, my freshman year (I'm a senior, 17/f). I did speak with a teacher who was very helpful and she kept my secret for me. I'm not exactly sure why but I'm really grateful she did. She was a lot of help and it made me feel better that nobody knew but her because it made me know that nobody else was judging me, nor was she (or at least it didn't come off that way to me)...

So, technically he would have to tell. Maybe he won't. It's something you would have to take your chances with. Try and make a deal with him - if you progress with him and start doing better he won't tell. If he feels that you still need help then he'll let you know first that he's going to tell and he'll do what he feels is necessary. If other people think you need help then maybe you do.

NEVER EVER say "in conclusion" for an ending, nor should you ever use personal pronouns (I, you, your, etc.). They should just KNOW it's your opinion without you saying so.

You'll need a thesis statement. That is one sentence that basically sums up what you will be arguing your paper on. An example if you want them to support Catholic schools: The (I assume) United States government should pass legistlatuer allowing them to support Catholic schools; (after the semi colon give 3 very good reasons why).

In your introductory you will want your first sentence to be something very catchy that will hold interest. Either a quote, question, statistic, etc. Then you'll give another few sentences. Lastly, your thesis. You don't have to make your thesis the last sentence but it makes it easier for the reader to pick it out.

You'll need to use transition words to go from paragraph to paragraph (therefore, however...)
The body paragraphs should have one topic each. Don't mix them all in together it will get confusing. If your paper was on the different factors influencing a persons style then paragraph one could be about the influences from celebritites, paragraph two could be how peers influence it and paragraph 3 could be about how family influences it. Then you would want a nice conclusion to wrap it all up. Once again, NEVER say "... in conclusion..." it's NOT a good way to end a paper. They should know it is coming to an end through a good transition word and through the content of your paper. What you want to do is, in one to two sentences, sum up what your paper was on. If there was an issue at hand then you want to (again, in 1-2 sentences) resolve that issue. You won't have to completely restate your thesis but you should somehow toss it back in the conclusion. Make sure your last sentence of the conclusion is just as good as the first of your introduction.

anyway, it says like music>playlists>music videos (and its blank) i didnt think that you could download music videos on my ipod until i saw that, so i figured i could (because why would there be a music videos spot if it cant have music videos?) Since you didn't mention knowing that your ipod can't hold videos I thought I'd make that clear. If you knew that then next time you ask a question you should specify.

The situation is like this: Just because the ipod you have doesn't show videos on the ipod you can still purchase them. The issue is that you can't watch them on the ipod BUT you can on itunes while it's on your computer.

If you're saying that it's not working on your computer you should ask another question and be more specific. It should work on the computer just not on your ipod. There isn't anything that can be done. If you want to be able to view videos on your ipod then you'll have to buy an ipod that is equipped with that ability.

On Monday my teacher warned my Eight Grade class that we are going to have a classroom spelling. Whoever passes it will go to the School Spelling Bee, which i am very excitd about, because i am a GREAT speller. Although I don't know what the words are going to be, I am very anxious, curious, and scared that I don't know how to spell a word because I never heard or seen it before.

Any tips on how I canbe good at Spelling Bees?
And also do you guys know where I can find the words that are frequently used in Spelling Bees? Either class spelling bees or school, or BOTH :)

Conclusion:

There isn't a way other than deleting your account if he hasn't already read it. (You can check by going to the sent folder and it will say either sent/read/replied. If it says sent he hasn't seen it yet; if it says anything else then he has).

I don't even know if deleting your account would really work, you'd have to start all over too, doesn't sound worth it.

Every morning when you wake up go straight to a mirror and look at your self. Say at least one positive thing about yourself while looking at yourself - it can be about your looks, personality, smarts, etc. - anything that's positive and why people would want to be your friend, etc. Don't get overly conceited with it, but it will help.
