Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. how do i make new friends easily at school?

Be really outgoing. I know that I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone boring, who doesn't talk or anything.
Just go up to people in your classes and talk to them. Some of them may think you're weird, but it could work out in the long run.

If you join clubs or partake in sporting events then you're sure to meet people. The more activities you involve yourself in , the more people you will meet and make friends with.

Don't do anything stupid to make friends though. If something doesn't feel right then it probably isn't. Go with your conscience on some stuff...

Are there any exercises I could do to get my thighs to look...not as fat?

Crunches, sit-ups, push-ups, running/jogging, etc.

Any excercises that work your legs will help with your thighs. Just know that you can't only lose and/or work out one section of your body.

I am so scared right now. Back on Dec 8th, i lost my virginity but it was more like a rape type thing. I didnt press charges or anything. He DID use protection. I still thought I was pregnant but my period was a few days late. So I took the test and it came out negative. So then on Christmas I got my period. I was happy as hell. On New Years Eve, I moved back home with my crazy mom who i still cant stand, i started school again, I was at the studio more, I changed my job site to a different school with bad kids and also a change in diet and exercise because i am obese and tryin to change my lifestyle. I havent got my period since Christmas. I did NOT have any signs of spotting or nausea like some of the symptoms. dont have none of that. My breast arent larger just stomache pains when i think about being pregnant. I asked my friends and 7 out of 8 said im not pregnant, that because of the activity my hormones changed because i had sex and that I am probably stressed. I use to be on birth control but stop Dec 2006. After that my period took it's own course like I had it vday 2007 but didnt get it again til end of April 2007. then it starts skippin weeks and months. Sometimes it just skips a month. But it feels weird not having it. It makes me nervous

Take another pregnancy test; it's the only way you'll find out. This time, I'd even get the test done at the doctors. I hope you checked for STDs afterwords also, he may have used protection, but protection isn't 100% against pregnancy and STDs.

It IS possible to get pregnant even when you've had your period. A nurse told my friend that when she went to the doctor because she thought she was pregnant but ended up getting her period the day before. The nurse said that, although you don't get your period when you're pregnant, you can still have it the first little bit...

Anyway, none of us are pregnancy tests, you need to take another one. They can come out negative when you're pregnant. They can't come out positive if you're not.

i'm 15 and, sadly, i have big sweating problem. even if its not hot out and i'm not exercising i'll end up with huge sweat circles under my arms and it's extremely embarassing. i tried using antiperspirant but it doesn't even work and idk why. maybe i'm not using a good brand? idk.

help?

If you truly believe that this is a huge problem then you can see a doctor and get a sort of prescription deoderant.

The only problem with that is that it may work too well. It's good for us to sweat, it assists us in keeping our bodies healthy.

i just recently applied for a job at wegman's.
my first question is where can i get working papers [they are needed if i am called back for an interview]. my second question is, if i am called back for an interview what should i wear? and is there anything specific i should know or say? what about the training process to be a cashier? this is my first job ever and im really nervous. if anyone can give me some basic info thatd be reall great =] thanks.

Since you said that you applied at Wegman's, I'll assume you're from up North (I'm from NY and I moved to the south - Here, there is no such place.

Anyway, if you get called back for an interview I suggest wearing nice tan, black, or brown slacks/dress pants.. whichever you'd like to call them. Also, shirt wise, nothing too "skanky" by any means. A nice shirt is all it really takes. You don't have to look amazing as if you were going for some sort of desk job, especially because you're only 15, but you do want to make a nice impression.

As for where to obtain a workers permit - where I'm from we get ours at school, or, if it's summertime, we can go to the DMV.

I would guess that those options are the same for you, too.

I've been accepted to my first choice college. It's pretty expensive and I know I'm going to need financial aid and loans. I'm really stressed out because I really want to go to this school. So far I have only qualified for one scholarship and I'm pretty sure that's the only scholarship money I'll be getting. I'm not sure what to do. Is it common for students not to go to college because of money or can they work things out? I won't find out my financial aid status for awhile. Is it possible to get large loans for school if you or a cosigner has good credit? I'm extremely worried about it. I really want to go to college. Any ideas/opinions? Thanks!

I'm in the same situation you are in. I was accepted to my first choice and I don't know how I'll pay for it.

If you'll be 18 before school starts ten you can get a loan, especially if you or a co-signer have really good credit.

I won't be 18 so I have to find someone to co-sign a loan for me - I don't have anyone who will do that either.

If you can get a loan or have someone co-sign one for you then you should be okay. Just make sure you apply for a FAFSA (the deadline is in about 2 weeks), if there are any other scholashiprs (go to www.fastweb.com and register)or any other places you can get money then I would do so now.

It at all possible, live at home while attending college. If the college you plan on going to is far away then you don't have that option, but if you can - living at home will save thousands. At least for the first year.

Worst case scenario - go to community college your freshman year that way you can save up some money, then transfer to your dream school. A lot of my friends are doing that.

Just remember, whichever college you actually graduate from (your senior year) is the one that goes on the diploma. You could take three years of community college and transfer to Harvard your senior year - to the world it will appear as if you're a Harvard graduate, which you would be...

im on my high school jv cheers and i want to make varsity in a little over a month. im taking private tumbling to get better at my back handspring and back tuck. anyways when i was at my tumbling 5 days ago, i did really good and got to doing back handsprings and roundoff back handsprings all by myself, which im not used to doing. after i left tumbling, like 10 minutes after it was over, i noticed that my neck hurt real bad. the past 5 days i have barely been able to move it at all, ive been in a neck brace thing. the doctor said its a sprain or strain, and he said as long as im feeling ok i should be fine to tumble again this saturday, and im getting better, but the thing is im nervous. i didnt feel the pain while i was doing stuff, so idk what i did wrong to hurt my neck. so im scared that ill get hurt again..since idk what to do differently. basically what im asking is how do i get over the fear, and not have to start all over on learning my tumbling? how do i make sure this doesnt happen again and everything?sorry if thats really confusing and long. any advice is appreciated! thanks!

I can help you with getting over your fear, but I don't know much about cheerleading (my school's cheerleaders are terrible)...

Anyway, to get over your fear you have to just, well, suck it up.
I've got an example that may help you. I'm afraid of heights which makes me afraid of roller coasters... until I get on them. The entire time I'm in line I'm talking myself into riding it, or I'm talking myself out of riding the coaster. Anyway, once I actually get on the ride or get to the top (whichever fear you want to work off of) I'm no longer scared. I'm excited and want to do it again. (Of course, once again, the entire time I'm in like I'm freaking out... but that's another story =])

So, what I'm trying to say is, the longer you wait, the longer you'll be afraid. You have to just DO IT to be able to get over the fear. If you take teeny tiny steps you'll just be nervous. It's like ripping off a bandaid - do it quickly so the pain doesn't happen.

Well, I'm 5'6 1/2" and I weigh somewhere around 135-140. I was just wondering if that's average or overweight? A lot of people say,"Oh my gosh, you're a stick! You look like you weigh 110 pounds!" but I know that I'm not that skinny, I look like it, but I'm not. So, am I overweight for my height!? Thank you!

This is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but I was just wondering if that eating Special K cereal for breakfast and lunch everyday for 2 weeks will make you lose 6 pounds. I have the cereal and I've been wanting to try it, but I don't want to waste my time if it's not going to work! I appreciate all advice and information, thanks!

Eating it alone won't work, but with excercise and not over-eating, especially other foods, then yeah, you can lose 6 lbs in 2 weeks.

But wouldn't it just be easier to excercise and eat healthier without buying anything unnecessary?

I actually liked the special K bars and will usually eat one for lunch... I would suggest eating a piece of fruit with it too because it isn't all that filling.

As girls, we have constant discharge. The only way it isn't normal is if it has an abnormal odor or appearance.

If it's just heavy then you can always wear a panty liner.

well im 14/f and im starting to look around at colleges now so that i have a secure grip on my future.
These are the things i want to be:

-Orthodontist
-Writer
-Archaeologist

what classes should i take for each of them? And which would be the most promising?

Do you mean what high school classes should you take?

I honestly don't know what you could take in high school to help you with orthodontist. For archaeologist the best I could come up with are science and history classes (if you have any that could specifically relate to archaeology anyway).

At my school we have Creative Writing, journalism and yearbook that could all go for helping you to become a better writer/author and/or magazine editor and/or publisher.

If you meant college courses then it would all depend on the college you would want to go to.

For which career would be more promising it all depends on YOU.

If you mean financially then probably orthodontist, unless you're a fantastic writer or extremely creative. Then an author or someone who works with a magazine could probably be very well off. I don't know enough about archaeology and jobs as archaologists. I'm sure you'd get to go on many cool "adventures" which would make that job awesome.

To me "promising" means a job you would most enjoy, so it really depends on your hobbies.

Also, when it coems down to school suggestions it depends on what type of major and what setting you want.
Do you want a big school, small school, rural school, big-city school, etc.? What types of extracurriculars will you be interested in, etc.
I'm a senior and have just chosen a college. It wasn't my first choice, but it suits me well.

If you could give me some specifics on the type of school you want I could probably serach for you or give you some links that would help you find your "perfect" college. I think it's great that you're getting interested in college so soon, your priorities may change over the next few years though, so you don't have to set your goal on ONE college. Pick a few that you would like.

okay. long story. okay. so yesterday "thursday" some kids dared me and this girl to kiss. so we did. and so someone convinced me to tell my b/f. and so did. and he got really pissed. but he "said" he got over it and he wasn't pissed anymore [[yesterday]] so today, i went to this thing after school. and so i got these 3 guys to call him and say "dude, your girlfriend is a really good kisser" and hang up. but i NEVER made out with any of them. and he got really mad. and he left a comment on my profile. it says. "I will never trust you again.You broke my heart.I trusted you with everything now that is shattered.you meant everything to me now you mean nothing i will remember you but hope i will forget.you were my life,but thats now over. Before I startI would first like to say that you NEED to get help for your cutting and suicidal tendencies, both are dangerous and at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, you need to get yourself some help.

Anyway, what you did to this poor boy was wrong. It's even worse how you feel absolutely no remorse for your behavior. You don't deserve him and I hope he doesn't take you back.

You don't care for him. If you cared then you wouldn't have pulled a stunt to make him think you were cheating. You're selfish, immature, and your behavior was unacceptable. You need to apologize for your behavior and leave this poor boy alone.

i'm 16/f 162lbs and 5'4.

my doctor told me today i need to loose weight.
so i'm gonna aim for around 130lbs.
i don't really have a deadline for the amount of weight.
but maybe at least 15lbs by my birthday (which is late april).


i'm wondering how to do this.
any specific diets i should try?
or any tips that helped you while changing your lifestyle?

Oh, I know that. What I meant by saying that gatorade was good for you was that it will keep you hydrated, I didn't necessarily mean that it was healthy... it's just good if you're doing a lot of excercising.

To be honest, diets don't really work.

Just about every diet that is ever advertised tells you in some sort of fine print that watching what you eat and excercise are required for these "special diets" to work.

News flash to the world... if you want to lose weight, eat healthier, smaller portions of food and get in an average of 30+ minutes of excercise a day.

The simplest way to do this...

Eat a banana, special K bar, bran-type of cereal, etc for breakfast. ALWAYS eat breakfast; it's what kick starts your metabolism (which helps you lose weight). For lunch try to eat a balanced meal. Try for at least one fruit &/or vegetable. Also try a lean meat and/or some sort of pasta or breaded dish. Chicken and fish are both very healthy. So are other white meats such as turkey. Try to stay away from beef such as hamburger and steak. Do the same for dinner as you would for lunch. A healthy, balanced meal.

For excercise you have plenty of options. If you can, hit the gym for an hour and rotate between weights, the eliptical, the treadmil, swimming, etc. All of those are very nice workouts. If the gym isn't an option than you can always walk around or jog around where you live. If you can, stay on a sidewalk. Also, if you have a CD player, ipod, mp3, etc and/or a pet or friend to keep you company then you're set.

If all you have is your house, and it's two story, you can run up and down your stairs for a good 10 minutes straight - trust me, it is quite a workout. You can also try for pushups, situps, and crunches in your own bedroom.

People have NO reason not to excercise. My school is around a mile long and I walk at least that much every single day. We don't realize how much excercise we get walking around school, it's crazy.

There are no "special diets" out there, we have to rely on the simplicity of eating healthy foods and excercising on a regular basis. Like I said earlier, try for about 30 minutes a day anywhere around 5 or so days a week. More would be great as long as you don't over do it.

If you're interested in any sports, being on a team is a great way to get in shape. I'm only the team manager for my basketball team but I could swear that just from lugging around our equipment and running around to get materials I've gained muscle and lost some weight. Don't undermine physical activities you already do. Also, don't be a couch potato or an internet buff. Get outside and do some physical activitiy.

Also, make sure you keep hydrated, it's another great way to keep healthy. Water and gatorade are both very good for you.

My best friend has an eating disorder. Her cousin gave her a list of all the symptoms for an eating disorder. She showed me the list and out of 32 my friend had 26 of them. I was really worried. I asked her how long it has been going on and she said almost 2 years! She said it was getting worse because now she is making herself puke about 3 times a day! She said she knows it is bad and she can't stop. She feels she has to make herself puke. She barely eats too. And when she does she pukes it up. She is going to the doctor tonight but she said she might not tell him. She told me not to tell her dad. What should i do? I really want her to be healthy. Please help me out!

If you really want her healthy then the only way you can help her is by telling someone. Take it from somebody who has suffered through an eating disorder, even once she gets healthy it will be tough from here on out.

My friends make fun of me becaus of how slow I'll eat, but it's got more to do with the disorder I once had and am still battling.

You can do two things for her as she goes through this. One, you can either convince her to tell someone or you will have to tell. Two, you really need to be there for her as she goes through this. You need to help her, make sure she knows she has a friend she can turn to whenever she needs one... it really makes a huge difference.
