about

Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

It's really that simple.

I heard that $100 in the United States is $1000ish in paso's in Mexico. So, could you go to mexico to buy a new car and then come back to the states, or would you have to pay a fee for your car when going over the border.
or something, i am confused about it.

Now I don't know the exact exchange rate, but you'r not going to find a car in Mexico for only 1000 pescos (sp?).

Exchange rates help you know how much you're spending in USD. That way, when you see a number as insane to Americans as 1,000,000 pescos, you would know that (using your conversion example), you'd really only be spending $100,000 on the car rather than 1,000,000 USD.

Now, I don't know the exact exchange rate (but that information can be easily found if you use google), but I hope this makes a little more sense.

You're still paying the same amount of money, it just looks like you're paying more when you go there. (It also looks like you're getting more when you bring your USD to Mexico to exchange them to pescos).

So, not too long ago, I was watching a movie in the local theater called American Gangster (stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, just for reference). I know there are plenty of movies about the mafia, gangsters, and mobsters but one question really hit me during the movie:

Is the mafia actually real?
I mean, seriously, does the mafia exist?

Was the mafia made up for television and movies by Hollywood?

In some movies you hear about the Russian mafia, the Italian mafia, etc. I even know there are also television series based on the mafia like The Sopranos. So, IF the mafia is real--they must be lots of different kinds, right? Would that mean that the Russian mafia is located in Russia, the Italian mafia is located in Italy, and so forth?

Any information is appreciated because I'm pretty clueless. Thanks!

Yes, the mafia is very real. Now, I'm not how sure their activity currently is compared to how it once was. You don't really hear much about mafia activity anymore... at least I don't.

If you do a quick google search on the term mafia

only search advicenators.com
, then you will find anything and everything you could want.

Just because they're the Italian, Chinese, Spanish, etc. Mafia does not mean they are located in said country. It just means that the race of its members is what type of Mafia it is.

My grandparents told me that one of my great uncles was in the mafia decades ago. If that's true, I have no idea. I am Italian...
I'm pretty sure the Italian Mafia is who people hear of the most. It's actually all I knew existed for one point in time. But, there are other types with other people.
You can get information on the history channel or just by surfing the net.
Good luck.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!

What is Madonna's real, full name?

I figure she wasn't born as "Madonna" and ended up changing it to that because it's catchy or something. So, what is Madonna's birth name and current name anyway?

I know she has an album that is entitled "Madonna" so I'm curious if she had her middle and last name dropped officially and is seriously just named Madonna. Do you know? If not, what do you think?

Thanks!

She's a very distant cousin of mine. It's a long but cool story. She's like my... 6th cousin or something.

Her birth name is Madonna Louise Ciccone. When she was married, she added Ritchie to the end.
People have just always called her Madonna and they rarely know her last name.

Her last name is pronounced "sick oh knee".

Me and my boyfriend were "trying out" sex, as we were both virgins and we've talked about it for awhile. I went on top and he went in about half an inch and then pulled out because I was scared. We tried again today, except he went just a SMIDGEN further, and it felt like something was breaking, so I told him to stop, so he did. I felt fine after that up until an hour ago when I peed and it started to hurt. Now it's totally fine, but it hurt a lot when I peed.
Also, we did that without condoms and I missed a pill three days ago, but took it the next day with my other one. I could be pregnant right?
16/f

I'm not sure what to say about it hurting when you pee... maybe see a doctor?

But, as for "could I be pregnant". Yeah, there's a chance.
It's probably a slim chance since you've been on the pill.
In all technicality, you don't have to have the penis enter you at all to get pregnant. As long as sperm (pre-cum counts even though you rarely see/feel it) enters the vagina, you have a chance of getting pregnant.

Now I'm going to spout off all the info nobody ever wants to hear:

Don't have sex with someone unless you're willing to have their baby.
Don't have sex if you don't want a baby.
Always use protection unless you're trying to get pregnant.
Best form of protection (other than abstinence) is a condom (for birth control and STD purpose) and the pill used together!

That's about all I have to say =)

Good luck. Wait 2-3 weeks. If you skip your period, take a test. It's pretty unlikely that you're pregnant, mostly because it's much too early to tell, but I would still take a test because you never know what could happen.

Oh, and I just saw your additional info.
Not bleeding (if you were previously a virgin) could be a sign that he didn't penetrate you very far or it could be a sign that your hymen broke long ago doing something such as running or riding a bike... not bleeding doesn't mean anything.

my friend said she heard about someone that dry humps their bed.
i dont get it.
they hump their bed?!
that's kind of weird, but can they get pregnant by that or like have something wrong with their body if they keep doing that?

sorry for the awkward question, but i dont know anyone else i can ask

I've never heard of anyone dry humping their bed... but okay?

Anyway, NO you can not get pregnant from dry humping anything as long as no sperm comes into contact with the vagina.
You can only get pregnant when sperm comes into contact with a vagina.

As for anything happening to damage their bodies from dry humping a bed...
Maybe they can pull a muscle if they do it too roughly? hah... other than that, I seriously doubt there would be any negative long term effects.

naturally i have light-medium blonde hair. in november i died it dark dark brown, almost black, underneath. in may i got some of that color taken out professionally and it was light-medium brown. now its fading to brownish/auburn reddish. i hate it that its red and want to get it back close to my natural color, or at least dark blonde. i cant afford to do it professionally this time, so if i just buy a dark blonde color in a box, will it show up or at least take the red out a little?

A lot of my friends who want to put their hair back to a blonde-ish color will bleach their hair first.
That's not high on my suggestion list because my friend's hair turned an orange-ish blonde when she did that.
She's crazy. She'll bleach it then dye it right afterwords to the color she wants. Her hair isn't too damaged, but she takes really good care of it (other than constantly dying it).

But, to answer your question, it should hopefully take some of the red out.
That or it may turn it pink =)
(I'm just kidding. I hope it wouldn't turn it pink!)

So I'm ten and half weeks pregnant, and i feel like my entire body is filled up with air. I know this sounds gross...but all i can do is burp and well u kno. It gives me some relief, but then right after I burp I feel like it fills right back up with gas, which leaves me feeling extremely uncomfortable. The constant nausea is bad enough without this constant gas pain.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do or what can help with both my extreme nausea and gassiness??

I'm desperate!

Because none of us are doctors, & your pregnant (which means you're rather limited on what you can do), your best bet is talking to your doctor or OB/GYN. They would know what's best for you, what's causing all this gas, & how it can best be relieved.
You may not even need an appointment. It could be solved over the phone, or your doctor may want to see you in person.

While you're waiting, maybe you can cut back on foods/drinks like soda (which always makes you have to burp) or, IDK, beans... they make it come out the other end =).

Congrats on the pregnancy =)

i'm already in high school starting on my sophomore year, and i still don't know what i was to do when i grow up. still looking for what i have a passion for, is it cooking? is it dancing? do i want to run a business? idk, what age should i know what i want to be? how will i find out? please & thank you

There isn't an age where you find out what you want to become.
I've already graduated high school and it took me until quite recently to realize what I want to do with my life. A lot of the people I go to colloege with aren't quite sure yet.

When you finish high school & go to college, you don't declare a major until you're sophomore year. Even then, some people will change their majors 2-3+ times. It's normal not to know what you want to do.

To help yourself find a career that might interest you, take some different elective classes at your high school.
Sign up for foods classes, early childhood education classes, fashion merchandising, marketing, etc.
Most high schools offer a variety of career pathway courses that could help you decide what you like & what you have no skill for whatsoever.

Also, there are plenty of websites that can help you determine some future careers.
Then again, I've taken a few of those online tests & surveys & very few of them have pointed me in the direction of my chosen career.

There are also some sites that go over the what you would do for certain jobs & such.

Use google

You can google whatever you want where I had written "Career pathways".

Argh!!!

Okay Guys..

I must of taken tons of pictures and I have no idea how to get it to the size of 15k! I have even gone into image resizeable etc. All my pictures are 900mb! :O Yes that's right.

If anyone can maybe help me out on how to resize it that would be fantastic!!

Thanks!

-BahaiMa22

Jack gave you the answer you need, but I'd like to make a side comment.

The reason we ask that your picture be so small is that a lot of users don't know how to upload a normal sized picture. Now I understand how crazy the size requirements are, but it's because people tend to go crazy with how large they make their pictures.

BEFORE you upload your picture to tiny pic (or whichever hosting site you decide to use), please be sure to go to paintshop (or any other program you have) and shrink it down a little bit.
There are some users who have uploaded pictures so large that it stretches theis page or make it's next to impossible to find their answers.

I don't know much about numerical sizes, but don't make it huge. It looks tacky & us site admins get annoyed by it.

=]
No need to rate me since I didn't answer your quetsion, I just wanted to throw in that extra info.

is masturbution bad for health in women ?

No.

Actually, it is said to help relieve cramping, help with insomnia, and many other things. Also, it is said to be easier for women who masturbate to have orgasms.

i also have to do the same project for school and i love the book. my question is, is there any song that relates to the whole book moreso than parts of it? thanks

I can't think of any songs that describe the ENTIRE book...

The closest I could come up with are:

Rascal Flatts - Stand
Everclear - Wonderful
Blue October - Hate Me
10 Years - Wasteland
Stone Sour - Through Glass
Hoobastank - Running Away
Three Days Grace - Pain
Rascal Faltts - My Wish
Gary Allan - Life Ain't Always Beautiful
Carrie Underwood - Lessons Learned
Avril Lagigne - Keep Holding On
Three Days Grace - Just Like You

By the way, you can just google the lyrics to the songs (that's what I did) to choose which you feel most suit the book.

and all the other songs I have told you.

i have to read the glass castle for school, and i have to write a paper on it. I already read the book and i wanted to start on the paper. The problem is that i have to write about a song that reminds me of the book and write why it does. I cant think of any song that would possibly ever go with the book. Has anyone ever read the glass castle by jeannette walls? and knows a song that goes/relates to it? any help at all would be muchh appreciated(:

I actually just finished The Glass Castle about 20 minutes ago. I have to read it for my college english class.

Anyway, I was going through my itunes and found
Apologize - One Republic (if you think about it, the lyrics could be from Jeannette to her dad)
That's actually very good for the book, if you think about it on a deeper level.

Here are some others I found while going through my itunes:

Absolutely (Story of a Girl) by Nine Days
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye
Alive - P.O.D
Bad Day - Daniel Powter
Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion (could be an ironic back & forth convo-esque type song between Jeannette & her dad if you think deeply about it)
C'est la Vie - Shania Twain
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride (VERY good except it mentions the little girl dying & it's actually about abuse)
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Gone - TobyMac
Hate Me - Blue October (could be from Rex to Jeannette)
Home - 3 days grace
I Dare You - Shinedown
I Hate Everything About You - 3 Days Grace

If you need examples of how a certain song I gave can be related to the book, let me know. I made sure to find some sort of connection between the two before offering up the suggestion.

Lifetime recently released a movie about the texas cheerleading scandal and the obnoxious, bratty, "Fab five." And the story facinates me. Does anyone know where i can read about the REAL story (like the original news releases) or the youtube videos they posted, or anything like that. I'm not looking for stuff on the movie, but only on the real experiences.

Thanks soo much for all your help!!!

I saw the lifetime movie last night & it just ended about 15 minute ago where I live...

Anyway, I didn't realize it was a true story until watching it for a second time today.

I did a google search to learn about about it. It's really easy to find information on the web, you just have to know how to look.

OK so you know the movie step brothers that just came out? Well i want to see it sooooo bad and so does my friend. the problem is that we are not 17 and when i look at why it is rated R well it just does not help. My mom said if someone else i know saw it and said it was fine then i could but most of my friends are not in town. Now language is not a problem it is just the sexual stuff and i was just wondering if it had a lot of "showing". I just dont know if i should see it or not. Oh and I'm 14. thanks!

My friend told me there was a scene where Will Ferral shows of his "package"...

I haven't seen it yet, so I don't for if that's true for a fact, but I wouldn't doubt that that's the reason.

Do some more online searching. If you just google "Stepbrothers" movie, then you can find what you're looking for.

As some of you may know first-hand, AP US History is a rigorous United States history course. It's essays, tests every week, and more essays, plus the midterm is known for being supremely difficult.

According to my friends who have taken it, APUSH (as we students so fondly call it) is hell on earth.

Our summer work for APUSH is: Six essays as well as a 1-page-long introduction to ourselves. Due 19th September.

But...I'm not sure if i want to do APUSH. Or rather, if APUSH is really a class for me. Because:

1. History is my least favorite subject.
2. I'm already taking Honors Math Analysis, Honors English III, and Honors Physics
3. I play varsity volleyball, track, and lacrosse
4. I'm in a lot of extracurriculars/volunteer programs
5. PSATs & SAT IIs, enough said
6. Last year, I tried taking on honors history too, but I had to drop it after a month because I wasn't used to all the work. If I had stayed, I most certainly would have failed the semester.

The problem is, I don't have another AP course on my schedule, and I really need to have one so my chances are higher for getting into Princeton University (or Columbia).

Also, I want to wait and see how APUSH is for myself. BUT, I don't want to do the essays and then end up dropping the class. Also I could not do the essays, but end up keeping the class, which would mean I would have to pull 6 essays from deep out of my ass in a tiny amount of time.

so..what is your opinion? should i take it or not? thanks a lot in advance!!

If you can't handle it, don't take it.

You don't want to set yourself up to fail.

An AP course that is pretty easy & still related to History is AP Us Governemnt & Politics.
There are rarely any essays. The AP exam was a joke. You would be taking it right around election time (as it is a first semester course), so you would probably have a very interesting course (I took it fall of '07 when we were still looking at all the '08 candidates, etc).
There are NO DBQs like in APUSH (thank goodness!), and it's a lot of fun to learn about the government &/or discuss what you know.

AP European History is difficult, but some people say it's easier than APUSH. IDK about that, though. If you live in the US, I would think APUSH would be easier because you would know more about US History.

Anyway, if you don't think you can handle it, I wouldn't take it.
If you have the opportunity to take the class & drop it without it hurting your GPA if you aren't doing well in it, I would really encourage you to do that.
I want to say you should at least try it, but I understand not wanting to take a course that you don't believe in yourself with.

If you haven't been able to handle honors history classes in the past because it's too much work, then DON'T take APUSH.

AP US Gov't & Politics isn't a lot of work. It's a lot of knowing about the governemnt, paying attention in class, and note taking. That's basically all I did in my APGP course.

Think about the pros & cons, and consider an other AP classes you could take.

AP classes look better than honors courses (although they both look way better than regular).

On Facebook, does it announce that you, specifically have joined the school network you have denoted? For example, will other users see a message that says "John Smith has just joined the Blah Blah High School network?"

I'm pretty sure it will say it in your mini feed (which you can delete right after it happens so nobody will see it).

I don't know if it shows on the main page, though. I don't think it does on the main page, but I could be wrong about that.

I'm 17, and I have recently moved out and into my boyfriends house. This decision is for personal matters, so I would appreciate not discussing this in the answer. We live with his mother and his two sisters. His mother says that she wants no financial help from me, just help around the house, so that's good, but I need to get as much money as possible. I'm going to start school again next month so I won't be able to work full-time. I've only had one job, which is my current job, but they only work me 10 hours a week at a rate of $7.25 an hour. It is definitely not enough for me to buy my own things (clothes, personals, school supplies, etc.) and save money up so my boyfriend and I can get an apartment, me to get a car and car/medical insurance, and for me to go to college. I've talked to my manager twice and she can not work me more than 10 hours a week. At the rate I'm at I'm only making around $100 a month after taxes are taken out.

My question is, where can I work part time where I make a good amount of money.
Also, is there any way I can get some of the things I need for free?

What do you work, 2 days a week?

Most food places will give you tons of hours. My friends who work in retail always complain that they don't make enough & they don't get enough hours, but I work at a restaurant and I hate it because they give me too many hours even when I tell them I want less...

But I guess since you need the hours & need the money, it would be worth a try.

If you don't want to work in a restaurant, grocery stores usually pay pretty well ($7-$8/hr) and would definitly give you more than 10 hours per week (I would hope).

You could try looking for a second job. Since you get so few hours at your current job, it would be really simple to pick up another one.
I realize school is starting soon, but you could find a job where you only work Friday-Sunday in addition to your current job.

You just have to look around.

If you hostess at a restaurant, you get an average of $10/hr when you include tips (you get around $5 plus tips...)
Some places will pay you $8/hr & not include tips... just look around.
See if any of your friends are working at a place that's hiring & ask them about benefits & such.

I probably wouldn't even ask this, but I told my best guy friend what I did, and he told me that what I did was very wrong to the point that even a Satanist would have problems condoning all of my actions.

It really has messed w/ my head since he said that, so I wanted your opinion on if you think I did the right things or not in this instance.

I was in college this past semester, and had 19 hours worth of classes. I also was working two jobs, one of them on campus for the housing dept., one off campus. I had been engaged to this guy I'd been w/ for 5 years from back home, but it was long distance by then because he didn't go to college. I had gotten pretty bored w/ him, and I had found a friend w/ benefits on the side, and the more that went on, the more I felt like I need to break off the engagement, so I did that over Christmas break.

Well, about 3 weeks before the semester ended, my ex fiance showed up and surprised me at my apt. He had a gun, but he didn't threaten me w/ it. He said that unless I got on his Harley w/ him and ran away, he was going to kill his self right then and there. I did call my little sister and I told her that I was running away w/ my ex-fiance, and she was the only person I would call while I was gone. I told her to tell our parents for me, so they'd know I was ok, but not to tell anybody else. So then I left w/ him, and we headed out west. The plan was that we were going to Vegas to get married. We were on the road for like 4 weeks, and the longer I was w/ him, the more I remembered why I had broken up w/ him to begin w/. We were somewhere in west Texas, I forget the name of the place, and he had gotten really drunk at our motel room and passed out. I looked in his pants pocket and got his wallet, and I slipped out the door. I used what cash he had to buy a bus ticket to Dallas, because he didn't have enough cash on him to buy a bus ticket for anywhere closer to home. On the way to Dallas, I ripped up or cut up everything from his wallet because I was bored, plus I didn't want someone to do identity theft on him, ya know? So when I got to Dallas, I found this strip club and asked if I could dance there for one shift to make money for bus fare, and the manager was nice enough to let me. (I had worked in strip clubs where I go to college at before.) So, I was able to use that money to finally make it back home. When I made it back home, I found out that I had fired from both of my jobs when they didn't hear from me, and also that I was on academic suspension because they had given me F's in all of my classes when I didn't show up for finals. Also, when I didn't show up to move out of my dorm room, they cleaned my room out, so I lost everything in there. In short, I lost my whole life on that trip. But still, in my mind, I did the right thing b/c he would've killed his self otherwise if I hadn't have left with him. I can rebuild what I've lost, and I've already found one new job.

The thing that my best guy friend has the biggest problem w/ was that he said if I was going to steal my ex's wallet, then I should have also stolen his gun and thrown it away or pawned it so that he couldn't use it to kill his self when he woke up and saw that I was gone. I really didn't think about that at the time, and now that it has been pointed out to me, I am a little bit worried about it.

So, did I really handle things as badly as my best guy friend said?

Wow, this is a very complicated situation.

I am only 17. Normally, I would say that age doesn't matter. In this case, I have to say that I'm not mature enough to give an answer to this.

While I don't think you made the best decisions, I also don't feel that you made the worst decisions possible.

Had I been in this situation, I have NO idea what I would have done. Granted, I don't think I would have taken all of his money & left his gun, when you're "in the moment" your adreniline is pumping and often times, you don't think clearly.

In all honestly, I have absolutely no idea what to tell you. A few columnists here who you could ask are Razhie, Younggrandma, rainbowcherrie (who is roughly my age, but she is mature far beyond her years), or DangerNerd (he is the current website owner, but he could also give you great insight to this.

I apologize for not being able to give you a well thought out answer. I don't like rejecting inbox questions just because I don't know the answer. Instead, I will answer them by reccomending columnists who I feel could be much better help than I am.

Good luck with your problem and I am sorry you were in this position in the first place.
