the glass castle

Question Posted Sunday August 3 2008, 3:14 am

i have to read the glass castle for school, and i have to write a paper on it. I already read the book and i wanted to start on the paper. The problem is that i have to write about a song that reminds me of the book and write why it does. I cant think of any song that would possibly ever go with the book. Has anyone ever read the glass castle by jeannette walls? and knows a song that goes/relates to it? any help at all would be muchh appreciated(:

I would like to know where you go to school. Really, I am not creepy. I am a 10th grade English teacher, and in order to get the Glass Castle approved to teach, I have to show that other schools are currently using this book. It would help me out a lot!

I have never really readt he book myself, but I will give you this. Try writing down words or phrases that you thought were important from the book. See if you can come up with a cool line and then another and so on and soon you'll have a song. You'll just have to sing it.

I actually just finished The Glass Castle about 20 minutes ago. I have to read it for my college english class.

Anyway, I was going through my itunes and found
Apologize - One Republic (if you think about it, the lyrics could be from Jeannette to her dad)
That's actually very good for the book, if you think about it on a deeper level.

Here are some others I found while going through my itunes:

Absolutely (Story of a Girl) by Nine Days
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye
Alive - P.O.D
Bad Day - Daniel Powter
Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion (could be an ironic back & forth convo-esque type song between Jeannette & her dad if you think deeply about it)
C'est la Vie - Shania Twain
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride (VERY good except it mentions the little girl dying & it's actually about abuse)
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Gone - TobyMac
Hate Me - Blue October (could be from Rex to Jeannette)
Home - 3 days grace
I Dare You - Shinedown
I Hate Everything About You - 3 Days Grace

If you need examples of how a certain song I gave can be related to the book, let me know. I made sure to find some sort of connection between the two before offering up the suggestion.
