What do people mean when they say "opposites attract"? Is this statement true?

It's like when like two totally different people fall in love and you know its kind of like magnets or something. I don't know, I really didn't pay attention in Science class that day. But wait, so are you like in love with a magnet then?

No, it's not true. Opposites attract mean that two completely different types of people are attracted to each other. Like a quiet person falling in love with a more outgoing person.

it just means that people who are completely different like each other (loud and funny vs. quiet and serious type thing) i think that in a lot of cases it can be really true. i'm sorta a wild child...like to try new adventurous things, very talkative, will do anything, non athletic, can be loud sometimes, and the last 2 guys i've been with have been fairly shy, pretty quiet, athletic guys and even the guy i'm with right now is like that...it all just depends i guess

i dont' think it is true. if your polar oppostites with someone then ya'll will never get along. However, if ya'll like the exact same things and have the same interests.. then that gets boring. It needs to be somewhere in between.

When people say that, it basically means that a girl and a boy are completely different. Like, a guy can love comic books and a girl can hate it, they both like different colors, different food, different styles of clothing, etc. I think it is partly true, because people who like the same thing, it kind of gets boring. And people who don't like the same thing have a more interesting relationship. But in some cases people who like the same thing can be easier. Just depends on the people. =)

Whenever they say the term "opposites attract" they're merely stating that two people who like opposite things and are completley opposite to eachother, can sometimes like eachother. ( ex: a girl depises sports, a guy loves sports, a girl loves animals, a guy hates animals, a girl loves the color red, a guy thinks the color red is the ugliest color ever, etc. yet in the end, they can still find an attraction to eachother ) no, this isn't ALWAYS true. Sometimes opposites really are so opposite that they end up not liking eachother ( obviously because they are not compatible and sometimes people don't like people who aren't compatible with them ) but sometimes it is true. Sometimes people can find someone who isn't compatible, but like I said.. still find an attraction. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, lol. I just kinda repeated everything over and over, lol. Like different kinds of people like each other. For example, a pretty laid back guy falls for a up-tight girl. It's like, whenever opposites attrach, the other person fills in the blanks.

It is partly true. Most people are attracted to a person who has the same interests as them, which would be the complete opposite of this phrase. But on the other hand, most people are attracted to someone who equals them out, an example would be if you are good at science, the other person is good at math. That is just my opinion though.

I think that the "opposites attract" saying is somewhat true. It is good and healthy to date someone who is not your exact clone. Without a difference in interests in backgrounds, and interests it would be easy for life to become stale. Therefore, dating someone who is considered an opposite can be a lively and fun experience. Just remember that two people can be too different, and in that case, the relationship may fizzle as well.

an emo/punk boy with a preppy girl would be conciderd opposites attracked.
or a gangster guy with an emo/punk girl, thats another example.

When people say opposites attract it means exactly
what it says. When two people who are so much different from each other fall in love. When i say different i mean they are from different religions, cultures, skin color, taste in music, personality! Stuff like that!

For everybody it's different. Some people fall in love with somebody the same as them and another person falls in love with somebody opposite from them. It's all up to the person. Basically there is no correct answer for this question.

They are referring to magnets. The negative and positive ends of magnets attract each other. Yes, it is true.
