Question Posted Wednesday December 29 2004, 12:05 am

Okay I am 40 weeks pregnant. I was due xmas day. I still have not given birth! What could be taking so long? I am becoming so miserable, uncomfortable and irritated, not to mention impatient. Please if someone has any suggestions please help!

Well sometimes that happens. I myself was 1 and a half weeks late. Some times it happens and the baby should be coming aby day now. Just wait and talk to your doctor

I can understand that you would be uncomfortable, irritated, and impatient, but in the end it will be worth it. Maybe she wants to be born on New Years Day? Well I wish you luck whenever she is born. What are you going to name her?

hailebop answered Wednesday December 29 2004, 9:52 am:
Due dates are estimates, and can sometimes be off. I was born two weeks before I was supposedly due, but was the same size as a 40 week baby, so they concluded they must have got the dates slightly mixed up.

Certain things can help induce labour - spicy food, mild exercise and sex, but it may well be a few more days. The last few days of pregnancy are notoriously uncomfortable and difficult, and it is frustrating to feel that you've done your time and you just want the baby out of you, but if a natural birth is possible, it's best to just wait for nature to take its course rather than being induced by a doctor, as this can be stressful on the baby. Do talk to your doctor though if your worried, as they will have all the information about what is the best course of action for your individual circumstances.

All the best. I hope the birth comes quickly and goes smoothly.

It hasn't been awhile since Christmas. The due date isn't necessarily when you're going to have your baby. Just keep seeing the doctor until you give birth to see if everything is normal. =)

PinkLady4863 answered Wednesday December 29 2004, 12:13 am:
this is completely normal. the "expected date" is more of a guide line, not an exact date. it has not been that long, so relax, you child will come soon. if you are stressed or anxious your baby can sense it and it may cause mental problems. my advice, sit down and calm down, this is normal.
good luck !

Sometimes a woman's cervix doesn't open up, so labor won't start. You should go to your OBGYN and ask him or her about inducing labor.

lorelei answered Wednesday December 29 2004, 12:11 am:
I was born two weeks after I was due. So was my best friend. I'm not 100% sure why I took so long. I guess I just wasn't ready to come out. The due date, really, is only an estimate. So don't be to worried about being a little late.

You could always try talking to your doctor about inducing labor.
