so i was in a theatre once, and this guy comes in trying to sell a folex to people in the audience. i called the cops and they came, but it turns out he was just a part of a pre-show show kind of thing. now he and the show are suing me for false criminalization or something like that, and i think i should countersue for tricking me. my parents think that's stupid, but i think i should do it just so i have a chance of getting some money out of this.
what should i do?
(by the way i'm a 13/f lesbian)
You won't win the countersuit. You didn't know it was part of the show, you are 13. Good grief this is silly. His charges hopefully were dropped, and this is all a horrible misunderstanding. If you are in a theatre, you sort of expect strange things to happen, but sometimes it is hard to tell the reality from the show when they do things such as this. Chances are very great that you will either pay little to nothing. Just tell the truth and let it ride.

My friend's favorite thing to do was always acting, and she always wanted to make it big time. She recently tried out for a broadway show, but didn't think she'd get a part. It turned out that she did get a part, and a good one too! The thing is, she got so nervous about going into fame and all that, that she's not really sure she wants to do it anymore. I mean it's her dream to be famous and all, but she's just kinda nervous about it. I know that if she turns down the offer she'll regret if for life. What can I say to her to remind her of the good things in fame? Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous?
Tell her this is a good shot at what it is really like to be on stage, and she should go through with it. If she doesn't like it after this show, then she should pursue something else.
It is healthy to be a little nervous because it shows you actually care about the work you do. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.
The good thing is that one part can lead to another, and there might actually be another job on stage you like even more. It is hard to get a chance to make a lot of money and be famous. She needs to do it only if she is willing to work at it.
The hardest thing about being in the entertainment business for me is that you work on the weekends and late nights because that is when people who work the rest of the time get entertained. But you sometimes get to watch other people work when you are off.
The biggest reward is that you have taken a group of people from their everyday life and transported them somewhere else through the author, director, and technicians. It takes many hands to make a production work.

16/f/ca. I've been in one beauty pageant in my whole life, and that was two years ago. Lately I've been thinking about doing more pageants and getting me involved. I really want to go into performing (especially commercial acting/modeling). Do you think this is a good way to gain experience in place of doing school plays/musicals (I hate our drama teacher/director with a passion...)? It was also a lot of fun the first time I did it. I'm not TOTALLY into winning...just as long as I have a good time with all the other girls, I'll be happy.
I guess my question is, do you think this is a good way to gain experience into the performing/acting field, or would it just be a waste of time?
It would get you used to performing in front on an audience. It might help you be more spontaneous and with public speaking.
The good thing is that you can win a scholarship or other money. The bad thing is that you could spend so much money on pageant clothing that you could have saved for college.
You could consider joining the debate team or defending a business plan or other idea to make the world a better place.
If you are enjoying it, and you aren't going broke, do it.

Hi I'm an A level drama student thinking about going on to drama/dance scool in london and I've not done any auditions before has anyone got any tips to help with nerves and confidance?
Many thx Joolz,(i rate high)
Have you talked to your drama teacher? Maybe you can make an appointment with him/her to discuss tips in auditioning and/or a test audition. It shouldn't be that difficult to arrange. Prepare your audition piece, it's usually one straight, one comedy, and one song. Sometimes there is a separate dance audition. If there is a community theatre in your neighborhood, get involved with their auditioning schedule. Most towns have at least one or more you can go to whether you take the part or not. The more time you do it, the more confident you feel. Preparation and practice are always key.

I'm looking for a good event to go to next week. You got any ideas?
I don't know what is available in your area, but Nutcracker Ballet sales here are skyrocketing. There will plenty o neat movies coming out Thursday and Friday. It is a nice time of year to go looking at leaves or hiking if you aren't having snow in your area. A short daytrip can do wonders for a fresh outlook. Many places will start having Christmas light tours... like our local zoo and gardens. A nice campfire and some smores would be great right about now. Plays and musicals abound. Hope this helps.

hey!
Im in theater class and i have to do a monoluge containing a conflict in it. I really want to awake feelings in people and by uniuqe...one that no one will have. most of the ideas i came up with are already taken such as playing a teenager with a defect and his issues, or about to love someone or forget someone. im really kinda clueless right now, and i need as much as i can get. If you're going to answer this, please make sure u dont give me some relevent ideas, but something that u think if is acted well, could awake strong feeling in the crowd. thank u very much!! have a good day =D
I don't know if you are having to write a monologue or not. If you need ideas, spend a few hours at the library. The most interesting plays I have found are usually done by either minorities or the Humana Festival.
If you have to write it from scratch, think about some of the issues in the newspaper: abortion, stem cell research, iraq, homeless people. Dealing with a disability isn't a bad idea. Then you need to think of what kind of characters you want to deal with it. Cranky, happy, troubled, and mix them up so that you have one side of an issue or problem and how one particular person thinks it should go, and then the "devil's advocate."
I hope this helps.

How could i overcome my fear on stage?
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. The more you know and feel the material, the better you will be. Fear is not always bad. Sometimes its just anticipation. It's ok to be a little jazzed up because you need to channel that into the energy of what you are doing onstage.

Hey everyone,
I'm playing a character in play where i have to keep a straight face while someone sings to me in German... does anyone have any advice on how to keep a straight face and not laugh or giggle during the performance?
Get the translation of what the character is singing to you. You need to know what they are saying so that you can understand how your character reacts to it. You should be busy with the thoughts of your characater. And eventually you will not think about laughing anyway.

I am a theater freak. Recently I tried out for the play 'Aladdin'. But, I found out today I didn't get the part I want, and I got a small part instead. All my friends got cool parts like the Genie, Aladdin, Jasmine, the main parts. I feel really rejecting, I've never got rejected from a part I wanted before...
If you want a main part, you have to try out for a main part. Think about all the people who don't have a part at all! It takes everybody to have a good play. Just enjoy what you have now and focus on being the best character you can be. You will gain experience and be able to do a bigger part. Just keep trying.

I have been told that I am a very gifted actress, and my drama teacher said that I should get into theatre camp, but I live with my dad, and money is tight. I really want to go to theatre camp, but all the places I looked at are day camps that cost way too much money. (my dad has a tough job and cant drive me to and from camp so it would have to be an overnight camp) any ideas what I should do?
HELP ME!!!
Once you have saved money or gotten a scholarship, talk to the camp. Maybe there is someone you can share a ride with for a small fee or trade for some chores.

I am into musical theatre and i met this guy while doing a show and i really liked him. Now we've sort of kept in touch, but i miss him so incredibly much. I've tried to see him a couple times but it hasn't worked out. What should i do?
~Confused~
I would continue to try to meet with him. Sometimes one show love affairs happen. They only last for the run of the show, and then they are gone. It sounds like he likes you as a friend, but not committing to coffee even sounds like he isn't really into it.

im tryin to make a long story short it mite be hard to make out, and if it is, go to my column...im southern_chickety, and ask me!!
i've wanted to be an actress for the past 2 years
i love acting, and i take theatre classes, my mom wont support me in it tho, because the said it's a hard career, and it wont be easy to find a job, and it wont be cheap, and we dont have the money to spend, i mean my parents are raising 3 kids, and they have one in college
i wanna go to acting skool and stuff, but now every1 is sayin if i go to acting skool ill just become a broadway actress, and i dont wanna do broadway, i wanna do movies
i'm really confused, should i follow my dreams, and try to be an actress or listen to the family¿¿??
im 14/f/nc
When you get to college, you can still take theatre classes in addition to whatever else you want to pursue. It is terribly hard to be an actress, but it isn't impossible. It is possible to double major--its tough but doable. So you could major in performance and something else or minor in performance. Some of the best movie actresses started in Broadway, and they sometimes return there. So don't blow off Broadway. In the mean time find some community theatre to audition for. There is a lot of that going on.
