Straight Face Hey everyone,
I'm playing a character in play where i have to keep a straight face while someone sings to me in German... does anyone have any advice on how to keep a straight face and not laugh or giggle during the performance?

iIf i was in that sitiaton i would just get myself really into the play and only think bout it and if you set ure mind to being inthe play i think you will be serious and not be all giggling! Well hope that helped you! ]
yea i know exactly how to solve yer problem: don't look directly at the person singing to you. like look off to the right/left but make it look like your staring @ 'em. "act" like your looking. Thats what i do when i'm in plays like that. hope this helps. good luck. ]
think of something that is not funny or just look into the crowd and think of something that is sad or wrong. ]
I've had this problem before. One of the most important things to do to start off, is don't look dirrectly at the person. Pick a spot somewhere behind them to stare at. Then get into character. If you get really into character and out of reality you won't laugh. ]
Well when i try and not to laugh i just bite my cheek. This way that it hurts so i dont feel like laughing. I dont really know anything else because this has always worked for me. Hoped i help. ]
Bite on the sides of your cheeks not to odvious so you would look like a fish though. ]
Don't think of anything sad...that will make you look like you're crying...and unless that's what it calls for, I wouldn't.
Keep telling yourself in your head, "If I even crack a smile, 13 giant clowns will jump out and mercilessly rape me in front of everyone for 3 days straight."
You won't even flinch.
Unless that's your thing...o_O ]
think about your bf/gf while therer doing it maybe? tell me if it helps! ]
To keep myself from laughing, I normally bite the inside of my cheeks really lightly, and it normally helps me. Well, I hope I helped..good luck! L o v e - K a t i e ]

LoL good luck in ur play sweetie! hope i helped! xOxO, aLeX ]
one thing is bite your tongue and another is to put in ear plugs and have your hair cover the ear plugs so you can't hear him. ]
think of something else! it works for me! hope i helped! kLg* ]
Try thinking of something serious. or just not thinking about the person singing to you at all. Like don't look at the person, look behind him or something, but still pay attetion to whats going on around you so you dno;t miss any lines or anything. ]
Biting my cheeks has always worked for me, sometimes I have to do it so hard that it hurts, but it helps me keep a straight face. ]
Ok for starters:
what the singer is singing is probably REALLY SERIOUS! get a translation...
also you can think of something sad like your boyfriend breaking up with you or a favorite puppy die.
also...get into character...practice at home...
good luck!

think of something really sad that happened to you and force it into your mind. Or someone who died, or a boyfriend/girlfriend breaking up with you. ]
Get with the character and practice a lot. Find out what it is they're saying, and it's probably nothing funny at all. If you need to, think of something sad. Like someone dying, or something, and it will keep your mind off laughing

Get the translation of what the character is singing to you. You need to know what they are saying so that you can understand how your character reacts to it. You should be busy with the thoughts of your characater. And eventually you will not think about laughing anyway. ]
Think about something that makes you mad or just think about something and not listen to what they're singing, and when you have to just focus on your que line when the time comes ]
just practice and practice, eventually you'll get it without laughing or such. Try not to focus on not smiling or laughing otherwise you will eventually burst into laughter. The first coupleof practice just laugh and get it out of your system, i've found its the best way.
Good Luck :-) ]
Practicing always helps... Try to stay focused. Remember, on stage you're not yourself, you're the character that you're playing. ]
