Thinking of a play to direct Posted Tuesday May 19 2020, 7:13 pm
Hello, my high school does a thing where a student can direct a play in the Spring, and I would like to do it next year. Problem is, I don't have an idea for a play and would like some help.
Ideally, this is a drama with only acting and nothing else. We do have some singers so a 'play with music' is fine, but not ideal.
Obviously, I can't completely predict who is and isn't going to audition, but if we go by this year the program has roughly an even amount of boys and girls, a lot of Freshmen and Sophomores joined this year and we have some strong actors. The girls tend to be more 'drama' actors, whereas the boys are comedic and goofy. We have 21 people right now who aren't Seniors, so that is an estimate. ...

Audition help Posted Saturday July 27 2019, 9:57 am
16 female going into Junior year of HS. We're doing the show Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, it was just announced-our musical is typically announced over the Summer. I have plenty of time so there's no rush, but I still wanna have an audition song ASAP so I can maximize my preparation. We all have to sing a song outside the show.
I was thinking about singing Maybe This Time from Cabaret. Some people on forums claim it's a mature song, but Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a mature show with adult themes so it looks like it'll fit? It's a show about men scamming rich women over their money, I mostly listened to the female songs to try and look at roles but it seems to me like a racy show so I don't think that's an issue. Maybe This Time is...

audition song... Stage Version Vs. Film Version Posted Tuesday November 13 2018, 5:05 pm
so I'm auditioning for a Highschool show, and we have to pick our own song. I'm having a really weird issue, because we sing 16 bars and so I printed a sample copy of the song I want to sing so I wouldn't have to pay, but now I'm running into an issue.
SO I'm going to be auditioning with one of Nancy's parts in It's a Fine Life. I printed from a website musicnotes, and it didn't say so on the website, but it is from the movie and not the stage show...I found another version from the stage show, problem is if I wanted that I'd have to actually buy it to get the lyrics I need. I don't wanna have to do that if I don't have to, because it's $6 and I'm going to use it once. There's some instrumental parts in the beginning that isn'...

Singing voice Posted Thursday August 2 2018, 12:32 pm
So I've been improving my singing voice lately, I definetly feel it, but I'm not sure what I need to do in order to take it a step further...
One thing I notice is that my singing voice changes based on the circumstances. So, if I'm in drama club or something and I'm singing a solo or in front of a lot of people I sing far better than by myself or even in a small group of people. I think perhaps I operate better under stress, or what.
Either way, I wish practicing a song at home would be a better indication of how I'll sound in front of other people. But I'm insecure singing around my family in particular for reasons I won't get into, and I'll often be telling myself to sing quieter.
In addition,...

Les Mis audition song Posted Tuesday March 27 2018, 2:28 pm
So I've got auditions coming up from a theatre group in my area, they are doing Les Mis. They are especially looking for girls 13-18, which is good bc I'm 15. So like most girls my age, Eponine is a dream role for me and I'd really like to get her. For the auditions, we have to prepare 16 bars of a Broadway song, and we are going to be given stuff to read. So I've been hunting around for a song that fits Eponine's character and won't be song by all the other girls who wanna be Eponine. I would go with As Long as he Needs Me from Oliver, but that seems like a very generic choice. Any ideas?

I read some of his lines in callbacks but the thing is I don't know a shit about his character. Can someone help me here so I don't seem like a bad actor at rehearsal?

Why do books always have unnecessary romances? Posted Sunday March 27 2016, 8:36 pm
For example I like the Hunger Games but I just feel that they're in an arena killing each other and then getting opressed the fuck out of in districts and trying to fight against the gov. so why are they falling in love. I haven't read the 5th wave but from what I've heard, they're living in a dystopian society where mayhem is happening the girl is trying to find her brother yet she somehow has room in her mind to fall in love. I like the Divergent series bu why in the world would Tris and Tobius be making out every 2 pages when they are trying to remove an entire system. I feel like if you had that much going on and your life is in danger it's unrealistic. It's so unnecessary and pointless. Like a book will be all "oh no aliens are ru...

Best Movie For A Jude Law Fan Posted Thursday August 6 2015, 11:49 pm
Jude Law is my favorite actor and long story short, I have less than one day to decide on a couple movies of his to buy. I already have:
The Holiday
Sherlock Holmes
Contagion
Cold Mountain
Hugo
Side Effects
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
The Aviator
I feel like I should go for one of his bigger ones like The Talented Mr. Ripley or Gattaca, but I don't know. I happened to spot Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events at Wal-Mart yesterday. In addition to the other movie(s) of his I but, I might buy that one. However, I've seen part of that movie and I know that Law is the narrator who is seen at the end of the movie for a couple of seconds. If I buy it a...

Need a name for art. Posted Wednesday July 8 2015, 10:53 pm
Sorry about the category. Wouldn't fit any. So, I need a name to be I guess my "nickname". Something pretty that I can go by, that people will remember because of its uniqueness. But it also has to be somewhat easy to pronounce. Unlike my name, Aislin (ā•z lin). But I'll use it to sign my art, and for social media usernames. Occasionally if I don't feel like explaining to new people how to pronounce Aislin, I'll just use this. I don't know if you've heard of the artist Viria, but that's her "nickname". Anyway, I need a pretty, somewhat simple, but unique name. Thx in advance. ☺️

Favouritism in my Drama teacher? Posted Thursday April 9 2015, 7:43 pm
I'm going to come right out here and say that I do NOT think what she's doing is right, and need some help approaching her.
we got a new Drama teacher training this year, and as this is our GCSE course, it's become much more important than previously. And at first she seemed so sweet to everyone, and I really liked her. She was fun.
We begin our first unit, and we’re doing small pieces. Typically, one person gets the lead 'rrole' in these pieces, more lines... more stage time... etc. And for a long while, I got nothing.
I'm pretty sure everyone got a 'main' as we entered our second unit. There, it wasn't so much 'main' roles as it was presenting your individual work to the class. All of that term, I never got ca...

Newbie to Acting and Need to Audition Posted Thursday March 26 2015, 5:56 pm
I am currently in my first year of university and decided to try to join a Drama Association. I went to an interview where I was asked a few questions and in about a week and a half I have to audition. They require me to do an improvisation, a monologue (which was chosen during the interview at random, but they still haven't sent me what monologue I'm supposed to be doing), and some sort of artistic presentation (recite a poem, a dance, singing, etc.). The thing is that I have acted before but nothing too big. I'm basically a newbie to theatre. I'm having trouble with the artistic presentation I need to bring - I seriously have got no idea what I should do. Its a theatre audition so I don't know just ‘what' would be preferred. I like sing...

Best John Belushi Movie? Posted Friday March 6 2015, 12:58 am
Today was the anniversary of John Belushi's death and ever since I saw some Saturday Night Live documentary recently, I haven't been able to get him out of my mind. Him and Phil Hartman both for some reason.
Belushi died in 1982, before I was born, so I never got to watch him before his death. Hartman died in 1998, when I was 10 almost 11 years old, so I'd seen him around a bit before his death. I'm a big Mike Myers fan and the two of them were in a lot of shows together.
I bought one of Hartman's shows online last week and would've bought one of John's too if the one I wanted had been on Amazon Prime and if I'd known which other one would be good. I got Hartman's show on Tuesday and haven't been able to stop w...

Has This Been Done Too Much? Posted Thursday November 6 2014, 5:45 am
I'm a writer and I've been deeply fascinated with studying the Titanic for many years. I want to write a story about the Titanic, but I'm almost afraid to after the 1997 mega blockbuster movie.
I haven't decided indefinitely what the story will be made into. Hopefully a movie as that's what I usually write for, but I'm somewhat open to a tv mini series or book as well.
There have been other movies and tv shows about the Titanic, but they kind of pale in comparison to the Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet one. One movie I saw was incredibly cheesy and historically inaccurate while a tv mini series was so d@#% boring it'd put you to sleep faster than anesthesia. The only reason I kept watching it was because it ...

Getting Over Stage Fright..? Posted Monday August 25 2014, 8:58 pm
Hi. I am a teenage girl, and I'm supposed to sing in a Talent Show next week. I'll admit it myself, I tend to get really nervous before any kind of public speaking, but people have always told me to share my gift with the world. It's not that I don't want to, I'm afraid I'll mess up or do something stupid, and embarrass myself. Are there certain techniques I could do to relieve my anxiety about this? Advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
