Q: I recently started using Audacity to make cuts of songs for dance team. The problem is that Audacity doesn't work with Itunes files (mp4?) and I really hate having to download an Mp3 of each song on Limewire. Is there any way to convert my files? I have googled it but couldn't find a program that actually works.

Export the files in .wav format. It should work. Under file, once you have completed and saved your Audacity work, click Export as .WAV.

Q: is it true? i need to kno how to get rid of the spyware that is messin up my comp. my friend told me it was aim b/c he had somebody fix his computer and find viruses. does anyone kno how? i dont think i can afford to have my entire comp fixed over. thanks

Yes. AIM, as well as AOL does have spyware.
It's called viewpoint.
To get rid of it, there is a simple process to follow:
1. Enable your settings to view hidden files (do this through the control panel).
2. Go to My Computer.
3. Open the C Drive.
4. Double-click on Program Files.
5. Look for a folder on top labeled AIM. Open the folder.
6. Look for a folder, near the top, labeled 'Sysfiles'. Double-click it.
7. Look for a swirling vortex icon labeled Viewpoint. Right click the icon and press delete.
Repeat this step if you have AOL on your computer. Instead of looking for AIM, you look for America Online 9.0 (or whatever version you have). Open the hidden folder labeled 'Jiti'. Delete Viewpoint.
You aren't quite done yet. What you just did is eliminated the program that reinstalled viewpoint every time you opened AIM or AOL. Now you must find and delete all of the other viewpoint files.
You can find these files in three places:
1. Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs - Delete the viewpoint media player and viewpoint toolbar if there is one.
2. My Computer > C Drive > Program Files - Locate the Viewpoint folder and right click it and delete it.
3. Run a search in your entire computer for viewpoint. You can findÍ!he search icon inÍ he star!Ímenu. This will help to find any other traces as well as cookies.
After you've followed all those steps, you can use AIM and/or AOL freely without having that bit of spyware on it. Why was it dangerous? It took up massive amounts of system resources, reinstalled itself even after you deleted the main files, was installed without your consent, tracks internet browsing, and tracks key strokes. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: 22/f
Ok I I love to do karaoke and I met this really cute guy *Kurt there a couple weeks ago. He is really nice and is good to have conversation with. when i met him I thought he was like 21-23 yrs old. He looks really young. Turns out he is 31.That didn’t really bother me like I think it should have. We have kissed a couple times but nothing more then that. Is this wrong of me? Am i too young to be doing this? I could really use some advice on this!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!

At that age, age doesn't matter. I'm sure you know that the gap between a 15 year old and a 19 year old is much bigger than 20 year old and 30 year old.
You aren't too young. You shouldn't put somebody down because of their age. You are both adults, so I don't see the problem. Is it weird? Not really. It can work, but as I said, age (in this case) shouldn't be a factor. You are both old enough to know what is going on and make your own choices and everything. Hope that helped and good luck.

Talk to your guidance counselor. They are pretty knowledgeable about the whole process and would be more than happy to point you in the right direction. If they are unavailable, seek the principal. Also, you can visit www.collegeboard.com to get an idea of how to prepare. That company administers the SAT exams, and also have a guide for applications, financial aid, etc. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: I feel pathetic asking this question..
but I want a boyfriend,
and sometimes I wonder if its just the way I look, or act, I think I'm pretty, and I make people laugh.
I am me, and I just dont know where to begin with finding a boyfriend. Does he find me, do I found him, do we find each other?
I think maybe I want too much in a boyfriend,
like one who does sweet things out of just because he cares, is that asking too much?
Should I lower my standards?
Its just, I've never had a boyfriend, a serious one, and I just wonder, what if I never get one?
what is wrong with me?
I'm not saying that I need one, because I definitley dont, I dont need a guy to make me happy. But I'm the kind of person who yearns for love, and relationships with people, you know?
what do you think about this all,
sorry its all sporadic, my thoughts are everywhere..
thanks

Hey feel free to drop one in my inbox anytime.
I remember feeling the same way you did - I never had a girlfriend and was afraid I would never really get one. So I just stood by and became an observer, taking notice of all the things people tried, what worked, and what didn't.
First off, you should never find a boyfriend for the sake of having one. In most, if not all cases, that will end up falling apart since the girl (you in this case) would feel so happy and so great at first, only to have your dreams shattered because nothing is what you expected it would be. In other words, your happiness would turn out to be short-lived and when things break off, you might even feel worse than you did before anything happened.
You find each other. Honestly, and I speak from experience, to have a lasting relationship, it has to start off from a strong, lasting friendship. You should be really good friends, be able to take a joke from each other, and feel comfortable. Yes, that does take time.
Trust me, and I hope you aren't the only one to read this, but that whole "I saw him a few times and he was looking at me and smiled, so I have a crush on him but I've never talked to him so let me find a way to ask him out" relationships are fragile and will end just as quickly as they started.
I've been dating the same girl for three and a half years now, and I've learned a lot. I'm not perfect. She's not perfect (but pretty darn close =P). But that doesn't matter. We are each different - so different that you'll never find what you are looking for on the spot. You have to spend less time looking for the right person to love, and spend more time on being a loving person. Why? Because ultimately, any good friend you are close to will change for you, to your liking. I changed a lot and my girlfriend did too, but not because we forced each other to. It just happened.
So nothing is wrong with you. Friendships are something I put great value on. I can see you do too. Don't go looking for love, because if you do you'll end up finding everything else but that. Work on developing your friendships. Please, be honest and straightforward with a guy if you do have feelings for him. Keep things simple. If you have any other questions, just let me know. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: I dont know. When guys like people.. do they just look at face. Do they just look at personality , or do they look at both>? Cause i think face does count. Thanks Just wondering

All guys are different, so there isn't one general answer. Some guys see past the outside and really do look at personality. Others are mature enough to look at both. Still, there's a group of guys that will decide in the first three seconds whether or not you are worth talking to. You can't tell who is who on the spot, but I'll let you decide which one is worth it.

Q: After a brutual breakup with my boyfriend
(one month ago)
I've noticed I haven't had hardly any of the
self-confidence I had before our realtionship.
Now a days, I find myself skipping meals,
complaining about my looks, and drowning myself
in wishes to be prettier. I'm actually
a decent looking person, I used to have
self-confidence. I hardly cared what people
said or thought about me, I was always crazy
and outgoing, doing something to make people
laugh.
Now, I spend hours infront of a mirror
complaining about my looks. I compare myself
to prettier people, I think twice before
I dare do anything funny, and I'm ALWAYS
of afraid of being embarressed!
How do I get my old self back?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Get him out of your mind. Don't let the break up get to you like that.
As for the self-confidence part... don't worry about your looks. With me, I hated the way I looked and wanted to change so badly - I knew I was never the talk at the girls table. When I get hit with problems, I try to be as optimistic as I can, which is what you should try to do.
Lets say I could look like any guy I wanted to, change my features and make myself look better than the stars. I thought to myself: wow, wouldn't that make things so much better...wouldn't the girls actually like me? But I thought about it some more and realized that I'd hate that, I'd hate that a lot.
Now I accept the way I am and I'm happy about it, regardless of what others think. I've had a bunch of girls tell me that they aren't as pretty as some other girl, so they aren't as popular. They thought that was bad, but I told them it was good. For the things that really matter (sorry if you aren't into that kinda stuff), why would you ever want somebody to like you for what you look like? You don't. At any rate, if anybody did like you, it would be for better reasons than just the appearance.
The hottest guy at school could turn out to be the meanest, coldest, unloving, unforgiving, filthiest person you could ever imagine. Changes the image a bit, doesn't it? So do looks matter that much? No. Should they? Nope. Does Hollywood, the media, and society agree with that idea? Not at all. They immortalize people who (to them) look good. Why? Envy, spite, and because they can make money off it.
Sorry to digress. Back to your question on how to get your old self back. Try to have fun! It seems like you always tried to make the best of a moment and just get a good laugh. Do that again. Do the funny crazy wild things you used to do, and don't even think about what others might say. You didn't before and you still had fun. Don't spend time feeling sorry for yourself. People are remembered and loved for who they are and the things they do - not the clothes they wear or the looks they have. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: how do u no when to pick between him or them? my best guy friend ,who is my former BF, and me are very close but our so called friends talk about us behind our backs about how its weird were still so close and awakward for them if the see us hug..this has made me more mad than him..but it hurts both of us..i feel that i now have to chose between "him" or "them"...
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

Talk to "them".
Who said you had to choose between them? With your best friend, confront a group of them (or even one by one), and ask them how they feel about the situation and why they say the things they do. Tell them what is really going on, that you two are still friends and are OK with that, because rumors might have gotten started or something.
From what I remember, real friends don't make you pick and choose who you are friends with. If that group continues to make you feel uncomfortable and they don't stop after you ask them to, then I would just let them go and ignore what they say. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: Since snow is just frozen rain, why isn't there ever lightning when it snows?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Lack of warm air. In a basic sense, thunderstorms usually occur when it is humid. Snow cannot.
I hope I'm getting this right...
Thunder snow as some call it does happen. It is certainly uncommon, but not rare. Its been reported in New England and in the Sierras in California.
Snowstorms are cold and cold air doesn't rise and create big thunderstorm clouds as readily as warm air does. That's why hot summer days are the predominant breeding days for thunder and lightning. But if there is enough energy in the atmosphere, and a lot of moisture, thunderstorm clouds can form and drop snow instead of rain when the temperatures are just below freezing. Hope that helped.

Type in those bands into the music player and really give it a shot. After about an hour of songs, you should find something you really like, maybe even a song from somebody you've never heard of. Hmm to a certain point, but no.
There are some STDs which require a specific test, not a usual one. Those don't show up on a standard test. You can talk to your doctor about getting specific tests done. So yeah you are safer, but not completely. Hope that helped.

Talk to your mother. She's there, she knows your father and your brother, so she seems to be the closest one to help.
Talk to your brother about it - let him vent and share his feelings to you. I know it's not easy for guys to do that, but if you can reach out to him it would help him a lot.
And as for your father, I'm not too sure. Maybe he never had that father/son relationship when he was younger, so doesn't know/want to how to deal with it.
See if you can try to get your brother to treat your father differently, or better...just to see if that really is why your father treats him that way. Don't let things get to you that way. You didn't cause any of this to happen, so don't be too hard on yourself. Talk to your brother and be there for him. Hope that helped and good luck.

It's a trend thats been picking up momentum lately, and not in sight of stopping. Unfortunately, yes...
Healthy? No. Discouraged by the media and peers? Absolutely not. Everyone wants to grow up way too fast. When I was younger, paintballing on the weekends was always a blast. Now everyone feels obligated to spend the night in somebody's basement with a ping-pong table. I think it's wrong, but nobody wants to take responsibility for it.

Mac
You get a discount for being in college, and some colleges even offer an additional discount.
They are lighter than most PCs, so easier to carry around. You can still wire Microsoft Word onto it, so typing papers is still easy. It takes a bit to switch from Windows to Mac interfaces, but once you've made the transition you'll love it. Hope that helped.

Q: 19/F
I had a (male) friend over today, and we were watching movies and drinking together. Just innocent fun.
I ended up getting more tipsy than I usually do, and we ended up starting to have sex. I sobered up pretty quickly and made him stop before we actually did, and sent him home.
Here's the thing: I have a boyfriend who I love dearly. We're talking about moving in together when our leases expire, and we've discussed marriage.
He's the one I really want, and I feel sick having cheated on him. I know I could never do it ever again. I hate what I did.
So my question is, what do I do? Do I tell him? Will that hurt him more than if he doesn't know? Should it be on a "don't ask, don't tell" basis?
Keep in mind that my boyfriend is the man I want to be with for the rest of my life, and that this friend was equally as intoxicated as myself.
Thank you! I'm tearing myself to pieces because of this.

Tell him. If you really do want to spend the rest of your life with him, then why would you keep anything from him?
Tell him the whole story and be completely honest. Wouldn't you want him to confront you if he was in that same situation? Don't be afraid to tell him and don't expect the worst either. Tell him you are sorry and that you won't let it happen again. I'm sure he'll understand. Hope that helped and good luck.

I read an article awhile ago about some people heading down to the south of Chile (South America). From the coast, they would go on a relatively small ship and visit the ice waters of Antarctica. They say it is worth it and spectacular, so I would definitely opt for that. Make sure you go during the time of year there there is light all day - although I'm not sure when that is, I do know it lasts a few months. Hope that helped and have fun.

Q: I'm still in highschool, but I plan on applying for NYU for music business.
I was on their website, and seeing what was needed to apply, and they mentioned atleast 5 needs of singing?
Anyone currently in NYU majoring in music business, must you really sing to apply?
Does anyone know if you must be good at singing to be accepted in music business, because I have no musical talents, and can't quite grasp the need of singing well to be in music business?
Please tell me what you do know.
It could be abotu any college that has music business, but primarily NYU.
Thankyou!!

I applied to NYU. I live pretty close so I visited. When you say music business, I'm not sure if you mean performance or selling/instructing.
If it is to perform, they hold auditions. You want to contact them specifically for what it is you are interested in. I'm not too sure for singing auditions, but for instruments you can audition or send them a CD of your playing. If you are looking to perform to make money, then I would say you need to be good at singing or instrument playing - it is very competitive here in NY alone.
If its the musical industry itself in terms of selling instruments/music, lessons, recording, then you should ask them specifically. I know they have a course called music composition, which is basically learning to write music. Call their admissions office and ask to speak to somebody directly for what it is you want.
They have their own school where you can choose your own studies. See if it interests you and what you are looking for. If you do want to go into performance, then you would be applying to Tisch School of the Arts. Hope that helped and good luck.

It sounds like it can't be fixed by normal methods. Call Apple directly and ask them what you can do. They provide service to you if you have a warranty protection plan for free. If you don't, you can still send it to them for a diagnosis of what the problem is. After they find out what the problem is, they will charge you accordingly, be it a software or hardware problem. You definitely have to pay for shipping, which is around 20 dollars. After that, the price is up to them. Hope that helped and good luck.

Q: I am 16 years old and a Junior. I received my transcript and realized I didn't do so well and I will just say that I am not proud of the grades I got (I mainly got Cs, Ds, and some Fs), however, this year my grades are dramatically better. I am now getting As, Bs, and Cs. But, now that I am finally doing better, do I still have a chance getting into college? I know my college choices are limited, but do I still have the chance? And if not, what could I possibly do to save myself to get into college? Like if I kept those grades up all during my Junior and Senior year will that keep my chances of going into college?
Thanks for your time!
|
|
|

|
|

Yes. My friend was in a similar situation: he just didn't care about grades until he realized they mattered. Colleges will notice the improvement, and it is always better to go up than to go down. That shows them you are capable of doing the work and doing well.
Like you said, your choices, unfortunately, are limited. Keep in mind that colleges look at several aspects for admissions: three year average [freshman, sophomore, and junior]; SAT and/or ACT scores; personal essay(s); letters of recommendation; extracurricular activities; community service/volunteer work or jobs. Most colleges don't look at just SATs or just your grades, so if you have a more solid foundation in other aspects, then it will help to balance out your grades. Hope that helped and good luck.

I really like giving advice, so thats why I have a column here. I've been inactive for a long time, but I'm back and will do my best to catch up. Advicenators is a great site and it is what we make it. Having my own advice column helped me learn a lot of new things, even about myself, while giving me the chance to help others along the way.
