One thing that was useful for me was having the opportunity to go to a camp on a college campus. It helped me make my decision to major in engineering. Program brochures should be coming in the mail for you soon, if you're a junior, so consider going to one to explore some possibilities.

I've found the College Majors Handbook useful. It's a book that you can buy that lists what you do to get each kind of major, what jobs you can get, and where most of those majors go.

And just remember, it's no big deal going off to college without knowing what you want to do five years down the road. After all, the most popular major across the board is "Undecided"! Your freshman year will be mostly core classes that everyone takes, and most schools will give you until the end of your sophomore year to decide on your major. You don't have to feel like you're in a rush.

It's okay that you don't know what you want to do. I'm 16 and I just only recently realized that I was interested in journalism. Your first year you just take basic classes such as english and math anyway. Just think about what your hobbies and intrests are and go from there. Or what classes do you really enjoy in high school?

^That is the most helpful out of all the sites I've been to. That is the site you use to register for the SAT. They have tons of information on how to pick a college, apply to colleges, and how to pay for college. They have a lot of info on different majors and careers.

You could always try to talk to your guidance counsler, I don't know how helpful yours is, but mine kinda stinks so I basically have used the above website to answer all my questions about college.

Don't be scared, it's better to go to college and not know what you want than to go being certain of something and become disappointed. College is there to help you make the right choice for you.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers with websites and books, but let me give you advice based on experience. Even if you don't know what you want to do when you enter college, don't worry. Most people change their majors at least once. College will bring breadth to your own experience. You will learn more at college about career possibilities than anywhere else! Be sure to take a variety of courses (most universities require a wide range of courses during the first 2 years, even if you've decided on a major). Trust me...before college, I'd never heard ANYTHING about the career I chose 20 (yes, twenty!) years ago. So, don't let indecision keep you up nights...more than likely, you will just happen upon some subject that you will feel actual passion for! gigi
P.S. The Guidance Dept. at your school might offer a test to help you, if you feel like you must act now. When I was your age, I took the Kuder Preference Test.

Talk to your guidance counselor. They are pretty knowledgeable about the whole process and would be more than happy to point you in the right direction. If they are unavailable, seek the principal. Also, you can visit www.collegeboard.com to get an idea of how to prepare. That company administers the SAT exams, and also have a guide for applications, financial aid, etc. Hope that helped and good luck.
