"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
I have had this horrible headache for the past 5 days now. I have tried almost overy OTC pain reliever out there (like ibuprofren and aspirin) but it does not help at all.
I have a huge anxiety problem so I am always thinking I have some kind of brain cancer or I am going to die. Usually migraines last for a couple days but mine has been occuring for a week nonstop. It doesn't fade, nor is it off-and-on. Sometimes it gets worse, but other times it feels more mild. My school nurse told me to lay down and drink water but that did not help. I stayed off of caffeine and sugar but that didn't help either.
I am scared that something severe is wrong with me! I have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow but what can I do to not be so worried? What could my symptoms possibly be? And I am not asking for a diagnosis, obviously. I just need some thoughts.
Thanks
Migranes can last upwards of three days. So, it could be just an especially stubborn migrane this time. It's probably been coupled with a tension headache (since you have anxiety disorder) and that's likely making everything a thousand times worse than they atually are.
You're best bet is to go to the doctor tomorrow, like you already are. They know more than we do, and can prescribe stronger medication, like Imitrex. If you're into alternative/Eastern medicne and aren't afraid of needles, my mom treated her migranes with acupuncture - and has incredible results. If this is a chronic thing for you, you might want to discuss this with your doctor at some point.
In the meantime, get off the computer (the glare is horrendous for migranes), and get yourself into a darkened room (light in general stinks, ahah). I've found that putting an icepack on my forehead/temples/eye area helps lessen the pain and swelling-feeling associated with a headache. Heat may also work- it depends on the person. So try a heating pad too.
hope you feel better soon! :)
Kathy WHO IS THIN AND LOOKS GREAT IN CLOTHES AND BATHING SUITS) went for a massage. During the massage the masseuse said the masseuse sells a cream for cellulite. Did Kathy want to buy the cellulite cream. Later on Kathy met her friends who said they were going to take a swim. Kathy said I did not bring a bathing suit and her friend of hers said that she could loan Kathy one, however, it is a size 10 and it would be too big for Kathy. That is when Kathy told them what the masseuse said to her about the cellulite cream. All of her friends said that this masseuse is a sales person and all the masseuse was trying to do was unload her goods (in this case the cellulite cream). MY QUESTION: Do you agree with Kathy’s friends that all the masseuse was trying to do was unload her goods?
Yes, the masseuse was probably just trying to sell her an expensive cream. He could also have suggested it as a way of PREVENTING cellulite, because even skinny people can get it sometimes.
Kathy shouldn't worry about anything; she's fine the way she is =]
hey my hair isnt that bad. it used to be but its gettin better. but whenever i take a shower like rite after i do and it dries it gits realllllllllly frizzy. like for most people whenever they wash their hair it gets nice and soft and everything but mine gets worse then before i wash it. what should i do
Brush it out with detangler, when it's still wet, with a wide-toothed comb. The best detangler ever is Suave for Kids. No lie.
Then apply a serum to it. My personal favorite is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny, but there's many you can choose from. Garnier Fructis and Pantene both make serums as well.
It's also possible you're not leaving conditioner in long enough. Keep it in your hair for 3-5 minutes whenever you have the time.

what are some appopriate songs that can be played for something like a graduation? like, finishing middle school/junior high isn't really like you're graduating, but it is the end of your middle school/junior high years. so what are songs that can be related to that? new songs would be really nice, but it doesn't have to be. it should also be more fast songs than slow, since i already have some. but if you have any songs that you think will be nice to play in a graduation-type occasion, that would be good.
thanks!
"Good Riddance" by Green Day.
& for something faster, maybe "Graduation Day" by Head Automatica? Not a personal favorite- but it's kind catchy!
Is it true that vineger softens your bones if you wrap a bandage soaked in vinegar around your arm for a few hours?
No, but you'll smell like an easter egg dye kit. This theory probably came from the "soaking a chicken bone in vinegar overnight" experiment.
My dermatologist has switched me from Differin gel to Retin-a-Micro.
What should I expect? Is it any different than the Differin? Will it break me out before it clears me out? Should I use it nightly or every other night?
Thanks!
I've never used Differin, but I've been on Retin-A for about a year.
It's known to break you out if you're starting an acne regimen with it. But since you've been on another medication, it probably won't be much different.
Start by using it every other night- or even every three nights. Gradually increase it to every other night or every night. But beware- it dries out your skin baddd. It works really well though, so don't let that discourage you. What worked best for me was using Retin-A Micro every other night and moisturizing every day. Find whatever balance works for you. You'll know soon enough if your skin is dried out from daily use.
:)
Is it considered 2nd base if you feel with your clothes on?
Sure, that's what second base is usually considered.
Ok it's so gross im 13/f and I have hair on my nose and it's really noticeable (it's like 5 o clock shadow on a boy's beard!)
is it safe to wax it? since my skin is really senstiive?
Creme bleach may work better.
Have you confirmed that you dont actually have blackheads? Those can get pretty nasty sometimes =]
For my 13th birthday i wanted to do something my friends will remember for adges. I originally thaught bowling then sleepover but my mum hasnt agreed to a sleepover ( she will though). I looked up some party theams and i really like the theam kidnap. Thats where you send each friend a fake invite for a norm party. They wont susspect a thing. You ask your mum to ring each friends mum and ask them if you can go kidnapp there kid while there sleepin. I really wanna do this but how can i do this when ill be kidnappin them in the morn going bowling but it will be to early for them to come over for the sleepover. Can anyone think of something ither REALLY cheap or priceless i can do to fill the time ?
hahaha. I remember by 13th birthday. Good times, good times!
The afternoon/evening consisted of pranks, inside jokes, and talking. Sounds boring? it's not, really! The pranks were the absolute best. We put clear elastics (the kind you put in your hair) around the sink sprayer. Then we asked my dad to fill some glasses of water. Priceless- he turned the water on full blast and flooded the kitchen. It's all on film (keep cameras away from the water) which makes it even better. FYI, before you do that one, make sure you move faminy photos, cellphone bills, and dry-clean-only clothes from the vicinity of the sink area, haha.
The inside jokes & talking about anything (guys, water balloons filled with marsmellow fluff, red Snapple caps, deepest and darkest secrets)- it'll all come naturally. Have plenty of soda and junk food laying around, and you'll be up all night! C'mon.. get the good stuff. You only turn 13 once, so easy on the veggie platters! :D
have fun! :)
Ok my friend just turned 15. last yr. she was a little over weight, in aug. (when we returned to school) she looked great she lost a few pounds. however she was still losing weight until she is basicly skin and bones. in dec. her parents took her to a doctor because they suspected something. She has to go every 6 weeks for a weigh in. Every visit she weighed less, and according to her nothing felt wrong and she was eating alot and NOT throwing up. The test showed nothing either. They said if she didnt stop she would have to go to a therapist.
However, last week (Fri) she went to the stomach dr. and was put on medication. she and her bff said it was some disease that makes her throw up her food. i asked (to her BFF not her):"Is she bulimic?" She said no.
What else could it be? I mean to be frank, her BFF is very controlling and they only hang out with each other 24/7. She is hardly ever at home. She spends breaks/weekends/afternoons with her and her cousin, who is also losing wieght. She is also home alone for several hours after school and she could be doing stuff.
So basicly is there some other disease or what?
It's possible she's just losing weight more.
A therapist should weed out any possible issues though.
She probably just needs to exercise a little less or something.
what is the football halftime show
It's a show put on at halftime during the Super Bowl.
Watch out for wardrobe malfunctions, old men in pink shirts, and "the artist formerly known as Prince" with oddly-shaped electric guitars.
can anyone clarify
teen, preteen and tween?
Tween and preteen are basically the same thing- from around the age of nine to twelve. "Tween" is shourt for in between- you're not a kid anymore, but you're not a teenager either.
Technically, you're a teenager until you're twenty (ages 13-19) but some people consider you to be an adult when you're 18.

everytime i write with a pencil, my pinky smudges the
line above it. can someone give me some tips on how
to stop? thanks in advance.
I find that writing with a really sharp pencil helps. Make sure it's a #2 (Most lead pencils are) because you may have picked up a softer one by accident, and they smudge a LOT easier.
If you still don't like how your writing looks, you could try drafting pencils (which I've found to be harder) or moving the position of your pinky when you write. Pressing harder may help too- it's a matter of finding something that works =]
If all else fails, write in pen whenever possible!
hope I helped!
:)
alright so i was just wondering if you havent started your period yet is it still okay to have sex. Is it still possible that you could get pregnant? thanks
There's a slim chance, because you don't know when you're going to start your first period. Use protection regardless =]
ok so my hair is pretty thin and hsort and its like dirtyblond i kinda want to die it blck but not quite sure what do you think
My advice? Don't dye it black- not even temporary. Dye won't wash out of blonde hair as easily. Go instead for a dark brown. It'll give a similar effect, but won't look as severe. Your complexion is likely very fair, and black is a dramatic change. If you like the dark brown, sure, go for the black. But remember that permanent black is PERMANENET- there's no dyeing over that. Dark brown, however, can be dyed over.
So try a wash-out dye (like ColorPulse) or a demi-permanent (Clairol makes a really nice one- Hydrience) before you go permanent.
Thin hair shouldn't be a huge issue. Your biggest problem is weighing down your new style/color with too many products! So, be sure to use a color-safe volumizing shampoo/conditioner- like Pantene.

I'm really bored with my hair. I want to get a really good haircut. Any ideas?
Heres a picture of me if that will help..

Well, I love your hair. Espeically the color.
I think it'd look cute with some choppy layers. If you're looking for something different, maybe get it cut a couple inches shorter. Not too short- maybe 2 inches below your jawline? Or a little longer. Remember, you can always make it shorter, but you can't make it longer again =]

-Only a little long and with a nicer color... but that's the layer style I'm talking about haha. Your hair would be really cute and flowy that way- plus, you could pull your hair back in a ponytail and still have come pieces hang loose if you wanted. It looks really nice =]
Tell your stylist what you want- and they'll tailor the look to your face shape and hair type.
good luck! :)
whats your picture of? looks like hayden christensen, yum. i love house md too. like the column, keep up the good work =)
My picture is a screenshot of Life as a House. It's an excellent movie, and I highly recommend it to anyone, especially fans of Hayden Christensen.
& thanks a lot. I try to do my best =]
can someone give me hairstyles that i could do to really bring out my highlights? please and thank you.
Straightening your hair really helps bring out the colors in it. Just make sure you use a serum or straightening cream in it first. Also, color-boosting shampoos enhance the shade.
Using a shine serum and/or hairspray will help your hair catch the light too.

on Advicenators. If you read a question and your automatically like "Oh i know this!" and you answer it without looking at other peoples answers. Well what if you accidentally put something that is almost the same as another person, and you get rated badly? is it still considered copying someone elses answer?
No, any logical person rating the question would look at the times. Plus, a long, thought-out answer deserves a good rating regardless of when you posted it. Unless you copy-pasted another person's work.
Usually, you'll get rated down if it's a simple question like a movie title or something, and you answered a question that had 8 answers already. Get my point?

does m.a.c. sell their products in local stores
No, only makeup counters, I believe. They're at Macy's and stores like that.
