Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

i know this is not a sex question..but this is the topic everybody reads..and i need advice..whats up with advicenators..why is it changing..i went to the site and its a chat room..whats up with that..and they e-mailed saying it was going to change but why???advicenators is so cool..i logged on from my e-mail..hard to explain..but do you know whats going to happen to advicenators..or if its got a diffrent name or something like that!!!SOME BODY PLEASE FILL ME IN!!I NEED ADVICE BAD!!!

The admin just had to much on her plate so we mods came up with a solution, another columnist, DangerNerd, has agreed to run the site, so they were switching servers. If you're a moderator, go to the mod discussion, and read the topic that admin started asking if anyong wanted the sites.
The site is now back up, but if you notice ANYTHING going wrong inform him either through the chatroom, and DN isn't there, then through e-mail... DangerNerd@gmail.com I think, or I guess through DN's column.
But yeah, it's just because Admin had so much going on and she couldn't keep up with this site and everything else she had going on in her life.

anyone know a good recipe for a low-fat fruit smoothie. not something you just got off google though. something yummmmy :D

My fave is when my dad makes strawberries and Banana smoothies.
We never had strawberries though, we only had the sugar free fat free strawberry ice cream

But anyway, put in enough ice cream as you would for when making milkshakes (it depends how many people or how many cups you wanna make.)

Maybe 2 or 3 scoops, not sure exactly. Then if you DO have strawberries, I say add in a cup full, then of course, one banana for each cup you plan on making. I like bananas but not that much, if you want more after tasting it, then add another (like one for ever 2 cups).

Or if you are a complete health freak (haha) then 1cup of any fruits you like, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2cup of ice, and blend it together, but this is for one person.

ok, this house has nothing to eat at all. what are some things i could make? we have peanut butter, grape jelly, bread, (im not eating pb&j anymore!!!) and milk. everything else is rotten. and it's 11:53 so i dont think we can order pizza. and we dont have any money....help.

Do you have any crackers? PB&J on crackers is good, but you said you were sick of that. Here's an idea, my friends do it to me all the time (My house usually has all the food) Go hang out with a friend, and if the parents aren't home see if ya'll can go inside and hang out, then ask for some water or something, then work your way up to asking for food. My friends don't need to ask, well as long as my rents aren't home. I don't care if they get some food, I know what it's like to have nothing in the house.

But I'm sure you can figur out something. Do you have ANY cheese in the house? Because you can make a grilled cheese sandwich or whatever you call it. I wasn't allowed to use the stove when my parents weren't home until I was "mature enough" and really I wasn't because I always used it behind their backs, but anyway if you can't use the stove just make the toast in the toaster then melt the cheese on it using a microwave.

But ummm, if ya really don't have anything else, I guess either try and be creative or just eat toast with jelly, or toast with peanutbutter(trying to be creative) orrrr, dunk plain bread in milk, though how good that would taste I'm not sure.

Okay, you know the hangy ball thing in the back of our throats? Well all you need to do is find something to touch it, even a q-tip would work (and be a lot more comfortable) but it causes you to barf.

There aren't really steps included. But really all you need to do is touch the hangy ball (I think it's called the ubula, but I could be wrong... on the name, and on the spelling of it). If that doesn't work (not sure why it wouldn't) then you'll just have to touch the back of your throat with something (well I have aweful gag reflexes to start with, not sure about you)and you should throw up.

But you said you weren't going to do it, so why would you want to know, and hey, if it's a long story, humor me!

Anyone have experience with wisdom teeth?

Well, my appointment for getting my wisdom teeth surgically removed is on August 2nd. No, my wisdom teeth have not sprouted, they're still hidden inside of my gums. I'd kind of like to know what to expect. I don't want to be too freaked out but then again I don't want to be unprepared. If you or someone you know has gotten their wisdom teeth out, could you please tell me the procedures before, during, and after? I'm not too worried about the after, I know it will be painful, but I can deal with it...just not the before and during. Don't give me a website, I've already done my share of researching, I just want to hear from real people that have experienced it. Here are some questions buzzing around in my head and I would be VERY GRATEFUL if these are answered:

- Will I get a shot for anesthesia? Knowing my dentist...I don't think I will get sleeping gas. Many people say they just got sleeping gas. My last bad experience at the dentist was when I had my four permanent teeth removed. And for that they gave me shots. Boy did it hurt. I still remember my eyes watering from the pain and the blood squirting...I am really scared of shots.
- How do they keep your mouth open? My brother said they stuck a big block into his mouth. Eek. I'm not to comfortable with that either. I have pretty bad gag reflexes.
- How can I keep the empty sockets that will be there after it's all done clean? I heard about salt and water?
- Any foods you would recommend? I know I'm going to miss eating "real" food.

I personally didn't get it done so I'm not sure how much I can help with. But my sister got them removed while they were still in her gums (Same as you I suppose) And she was put to sleep. You don't get it done at your actual dentists office. At least my sister Emily didn't. She went to a "dental hospital" thats just what I call it, I don't know if there's a real name for it, but it's where any dental surgeory like things are done. Such as moving a jaw, removing wisdom teeth, and so on.
Anyway, her dental surgeon (sp?)put her to sleep, she missed a few days of school too. I know right after she woke up she threw up. But that's normal. Your mouth will definitly be sore afterwords, so I reccommend finding some good pain reliever medicines that your dentist says you can use (just in case there are certain ones you shouldn't use)

But I'll answer your questions, at least I'll try, remember I didn't personally get them done, only my sister so this is the best I have...

1.) Since you say you don't think you'll be put to sleep then YES you will get a shot of something to make it numb or anything like that. Like I said I didn't get the exact surgeory, but a few months ago I had to get gum removed from my mouth because my teeth were too small so I got some of my gums cut, and I was expecting it to be something I'd maybe get put to sleep for, I was even told I should miss a few days of school for it (by the dental surgeon guy) but he numbed me very well, and I ended up wanting to go to school the next day. But I was numbed when I had gum removed from my mouth (and you will too since your teeth are under your gums)
Also if there was ANY pain last time you should've told your dentist, if I feel that I'm not numbed enough my dentist tells me to say something, and as scared as I am of shots (you should here some of the hilarious stories of what I've done) but I'd rather get the shots of numbnest than the pain, but I've had teeth pulled before (never permanent, my teeth just weren't coming out fast enough) anywho, I was numbed at it didn't hurt, but yours will be painful, I won't lie....Thats about all I can give for question number one

2) Well all I know about keeping mouths open is when I got my braces on they put something in my mouth that kept my tongue away from my teeth, and that whole gag thing, sounds just like me, I have aweful gag reflexes, I can't even stand getting strep tests when they swab your throat I feel like barfing (sorry about the too much info factor haha) Anyway, they usually do put something in your mouth, but as for the thing they put in my mouth with braces, well if I tried I could close my mouth, but anyway, after a few minutes I got used to it. Since I never got the actual wisdom teeth pulled I'm not sure but thats all I have for that one

3) If you rinse with salt water, they should stay clean (though it'll probably hurt), but it's just disinfecting them and stuff. The dentist or whoever should tell you (or give you a list) on dos and donts, if not, ask.

4) I would reccomend popcicles, but the coldness might not feel too good. I guess soups, but only like complete liquids, like instead of chicken noodle, eat tomato soup (I don't like it, but it was the only example I had) Your dentist person should also give you a list or paper on this too.

Sorry, if my sister was home I would've just had her answer the question for you, but she's not so I did. And this info is NOT 100% accurate, it's just what I think/know from when my sister had hers done (YEARS AGO) so I might not remember correctly either. But good luck, everything should go fine!!

Usually once me and a friend start talking it's sooo much easier to keep the convo going. Like when I talk to guys online I have nothing to say, but after one of us just starts talking we can be talking for hours. It's even like that with some of my friends. I remember I used to talk to one of my best friends Julia (no longer close friends, but oh well) more online then in person haha.
Anyway, just try and think up something to say.

Crest White strips most definitly work, I've had a friend who used them. But I did try them for a night and I didn't really like the taste that much, but when it came to making her teeth white they worked. There are other things like that, such as the liquid kind that you paint on your teeth. Also many toothpastes do have whiting stuff in them. But if you really want to make your teeth white then I reccomend baking soda, it did work for some people I've known. I still have my braces on, so I can't use the stuff, all I can do is tell you what friends have used. The ortho me and my sis go to will either give you stuff to put on your teeth, or reccomend stuff.

I never thought it could grow back, but some people have said that it could. And besides, a lot of people on this site don't know what they're talking about so for if I was wrong I'm telling you that site. Hey, I asked my mom and she said no... you weren't on AIM so I couldn't IM you, and then I remembered you asked this question.
Anyway, she said you can't get pregnant when you're on your period, and that the week before and the week after your period your chances are lower, or maybe she said higher, not sure about that.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know I asked my mom (knowing I would get the 3rd degree about if I was having sex, and I did.) and that she said no.

I've tried veet bladeless razor, it worked for me. It only takes like 8 minutes to use, and it was worth it for me. It doesn't work for everyone though, and if it starts to burn, well that means it doesn't work for you :-P. Hope I helped!

I'm going into high school this year as a freshman, and I'm SO nervous. I'm scared that I won't have anyone to talk to and I won't do well in my classes (I got all honors), so can anyone please tell me what high school is like ? Like, the classes, teachers, classmates, etc.. And any tips to make friends and do well in the classes ? kthnx.

Well I'm with Laura down below, it's sooo much easier then you would think. Plus I'm one of those awesome friends she met!! Haha, anyway, the classes get harder, but the worst for me was science. You know how your middle school teachers always warn you about these really tough teachers and blah blah blah, well my science teacher (though I liked her, and I hope I get her again this following year..she also teaches biology which I'll be taking) But other than my science teacher, the rest of them weren't as strict and as hard as you would think. Just pay attention. It was just like when you entered middle school. You probably thought it would be a lot harder, but once you learned your way around, and got into the hang of it, it became so much easier, well same with high school.

I don't even remember how I made friends. I remember I wasn't as great of friends with some people when I was in their classes 1st semester, but we still talked and stuff, so by the time it was 2nd semester and I had classes with them again we became much better friends like Laura (lilmisslaurafaye) and my friend Jessica, and I guess a few others. But it starts out with people you already knew being in your class and you talk to them, then you just say hi to the people sitting around you, and somehow you get to know them.
How did you make you're new friends going from 6th to 7th grade, how did you make them going from 7th to 8th, same exact way.
Don't be nervous, a lot of teachers in middle school (junior high) tell you that you'll have tougher teachers, and that you'll have more homework, and harder classes, but really I thought middle school was a bit more tough than high school. As long as you pay attention, study, do the work, and make new friends it'll all turn out fine!!! Trust me!! If you need anything, just post one to the inbox!!
