i hjave this friend that i love very much but the things she talks about somtimes i dont beleve are truthful..i know if i confront her then she'll get mad and not want to talk to me and say i think shes a liar so whats the point but i dont like being lied to..what should i do?

i need help! (link)
I have known several people over the years who were this way. Mostly, I just learned to smile and nod my head when it was clear they were not quite being truthful. Sometimes it was just exaggerating the story, other times, she would totally make crap up... years later, she tried to excuse herself of the lies, claiming that she was "wrapped up writing a story, and started spilling the story over into her real life", which again I didn't buy, but at least she acknowledged that she had lied (even if in doing so, she told yet another lie). I think for some people, lying becomes such a habit, that they start doing it all the time, regardless of their audience.
You don't necessarially want to out-right call your friend a liar, but you might want to changing the subject when she goes off on superflous tangents. Now, if she's lying about other people, and you know otherwise, you might try saying, "well, that's not exactly what I had been told..." and follow this with you know to be the truth about the topic. This way, you're not being accusational, nor are you being confrontational - you're just trying to find the real truth of the matter.

Hey everyone, I just got back from being away for awhile, and I wanted to know what happened with Advicenators. I've only been away for like 5 days but the last time I checked they were doing something new with the questions. Is that still happening or is it back to normal now? Thanks in advance!! (link)
all questions enter an approval queue before being shown to the general public. Moderators approve or delete the questions - in hopes that we can cut down on the amount of spam, dupelicate questions, and trolls.

Under the "View Questions" link, there is a drop-down menu that you can choose to view the questions by # or replies, or by time - the choice is up to you.

How do i lose weight on my legs and not my other body parts? I will rate ya'll! (link)
doing exercizes that isolate the leg muscles is always a good bet - but in reality, you have only limited control over where your body decides to lose weight. I've known people who were so obsessed with getting "smaller legs" that they worked out so much, their leg muscles got huge - larger than they were before - but with no excess fat. So, take that as you will - just something to keep in mind.

i know this isn't really important, but im doing a poll for summer school.. im not in summer skool, but were supposed to be doing this to get ready for our upcoming high skool year, and well here's my poll...

Bush?
or
Kerry?

moderators, plz don't rate this low, it's for skool, also please don't delete this Q!!!! (link)
Kerry.

I am a registered Republican, too. I cannot and will not vote for Bush.

I wil not be getting my political policy from Seventeen Magazine, though thanks for the offer. Someone else made a loose reference to an aricle a friend of mine wrote regarding Bush on spacefem.com Like, me is a registered Republican - and neither of us will support Bush. I realize that Bush is Republican and Kerry is Democrat - people should not vote on party-lines - people should vote for the better candidate. Bush is not the better candidate.

17-F Okay...I've never had a really good relationship before. All my friends and seem to have the perfect boyfriends and I can't even meet someone that I connect with. I feel like I'm never going to meet my special someone. I know that your suppoes to be happy with yourself until you can be completely happy with someone else...so I did that...I fixed everything I don't like about myself and really am happy with my life as it is...except not having my significant other...what can I do?

-Sincerely, hopeless (link)
well, you're only 17... you have time on your side. It just might be that your current circle of friends doesn't contain someone that you feel romantically inclined towards, or vice versa.
Ask yourself why it is that you don't seem to connect... are you looking for the right things? It alwasy drives me nuts when people proclaim the crap about "opposites attract" because it isn't true - people are drawn towards others with similar interests, with similar values, goals, etc...
And don't worry about something starting with a bolt of lightning - the best relationships are the ones built on friendship and trust... too often, people create these overly and overtly romantic flings that just aren't able to sustain themselves. Perhaps, while you may feel left out, you're actually going about this in a more mature manner... just some food for thought. ;)
Oh... and don't worry about "finding someone"... let them find you... and make sure you aren't in love with the thought of being in love, because that will doom any relationships before they even start.
Good luck.

is there any way to delete your answered questions from the "your questions" page? (link)
nope - there is no way to perform that action.

the only feedback you'll get is through the ratings system - and not everyone uses it. Sometimes if you've caught someone's eye, you'll get asked a question directly, which can also be flattering. But beyond that, there's nothing really for forced feedback... (of course, if people would visit the chatroom for more than 2 seconds at a time, they might be able to talk to other members of this site, and we could all talk about the advice and questions and whatnot...)

I live in North Carolina and my mom and dad got divorced 3-4 years ago. He doesn't pay for much, and I know he won't pay for college. I'm 16...a Junior in High School and have 2 more years left for college. I really want to go to Boston University or University of Massachusetts because I love those schools and it's my home state. My mom said that I should go to college in North Carolina so it will be cheaper but I don't like many colleges here. The ones I do like (Duke University and Wake Forest University) are private and will still cost more. I told her I'd pay for law school and 4 year college but she wanted to pay for that. She said if I go to college up there then she'll only give me the amount a year that she would pay down here. What should I do? Should I go down here or up there or should I say something? (link)
How I do not envy anyone going through the college finance debacle...
First comment: don't give up on scholarships and grants. Apply for as many as you can - try delving for info on some of the more obscure scholarships out there, too.. there are many ways to help yourself out in that way.
Second comment: bust your ass the rest of high school to keep your grades at the top and use that as further leverage for college.
See if you can't strike some sort of deal with your mom regarding a balance of your grades and applying for scholarships and grants with her ability to pay for school and take on loans to keep you in school. I mean, without full-ride scholarship, you might be taking out some loans in your name, too - I did, and I'm finally done paying them off (small payments stretched out over many years - works out well). So there's always a good chance you can make your goal.
Don't forget to contact the financial aid departments of the schools you'd like to attend, even if just to scope things out and talk to one of their people about opportunities for scholarships, grants, and loans. I'm sure with a little effort, you'll be able to find a way to make it work that you and your mom will be happy with.
Good luck!

ok well my grandpops has cancer and he has like 1 yr to live. well hes all into church and that stuff and he always asks me to go with him. well i havnt gone to church since i was like 10 and the only reason i went is bc i liked this guy. well idk how to tell him i dont want to go. cuz im just not a church person like i believe in *A* god but the whole worshiping thing is totally off the wall for me??? wut can i do

-non religious girl (link)
suck it up and go with him anyway... you're going to be there for your grandfather, not to participate in a religious activity that you don't necessarially agree with... you are there to support your grandfather. You're doing it for him, not for yourself.
Do the right thing.

my mom wont let me play the gutire because she thinks its for boys only!!!! isnt that stupid?!?! my friends and i are in a band and i want to learn how to play the gutire! how do i convince her to let me??? (link)
That isn't quite right, is it? The guitar is not a man's plaything. Music is music, regardless of the instrument - there are no barriers that way you cannot play guitar:

Look at Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins from the late 60s... look at Nancy Wilson of Heart who still plays like a bad-ass... look at Lita Ford of the 80s hair band craze... look at the Bangles, the Go-Gos, the Runaways, the Pretenders, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Vixen... there's a long, long list, and they come from many eras and generations... women CAN and DO play guitar.

Dig through music your mom listens to and find bands with women playing guitars... I bet you'll find several... possibly one's I listed here.

Beyond all that, inform you mother that the guitar is a wonderful instrument to learn, a great tool for song writing, and an even better medium to learn to express yourself.

Good Luck!

HELLO! now i'm getting just a teeny bit tired of no one rating me when i answer your questions. i mean, look at it this way, i put in a lot of effort to make sure you all have good answers and all i get is 12 measly ratings, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE ANSWERED 106 QUESTIONS. so 12/106 people rated me, that's kinda unfair isn't it? so i'd appreciate it, if before you asked me advice, you considered wether or not you're planning to rate me afterwards. (link)
Question rating is not a game. This says to me that you are paying too much attention to the ratings, and not enough on the content. Would it be better if ratings were hidden from you?

I really dislike seeing people who beg for ratings. Likewise, I really dislike questions where they advertise their eagerness to rate people - they generally give all 5's, which is a load of crap.

Ratings is not a game.

My daughter is almost 5 and she has a hard time entertaining herself so I can get dressed for the day or do work around the house. She has a lot of toys but rarely plays with most of them and wants to either watch t.v. or follow us around. It drives me crazy and my husband too, because she comes in our room when we tell her not to. I've threatened to throw out her toys, but it does no good. When we get angry she just laughs at us. We tried closing her up in her room but she just pounds on the door and screams that she is scared. We are expecting another child and we are afraid her behaivior is going to just get worse when the baby comes. She does not behave like this for other family that watches her. Anyone got any advice? Preferably parents who can relate to this situation and have some solutions please. (link)
Ouch.
So you know, I've got 2 boys - one is 4, the younger is 2. The older boy used to be a bit that way. The problem is that your daughter has leanred to manipulate you quite well. Kids are very clever in that regard. Thankfully, Ryan (the 4 year old) was very excited about having a baby brother, and when Matt was born, Ryan was very helpful and tried hard to play with Matt. Now older, the two of them play quite well together (that is, until Matt tries to beat up his big brother ;) ).
I might suggest you get your daughter excited about being a big sister - talk to her about it a lot, let her know that you'll need her help and that they baby will need her help, too.
You might try simple games and toys that can occupy her interest, such as puzzles, or perhaps crafts where she has a goal to complete.
It is natural for your daughter to have an interest in what you and your husband are doing - don't be afraid to talk to her about the things that you do, like paying bills, projects for work, housework, cooking, etc... With the boys, it isn't so much that they want to join in, more that they are just curious as to what I'm doing, and they do learn from my and my wife's explanations. Ryan will even get out play tools and follow me around while I work on things, "fixing" nearby objects like doors and vents, while I work on the actual house (it is quite cute).
Keep the option open for setting up play-dates for your daughter with other kids she knows from the neighborhood, daycare/preschool, cousins, etc... having someone her own age to play with is invaluable.
Best of luck!

i dance alot (about 12 hours a week) .. does this have anything to do with my not having my period yet because of heavy exercise?? that's what my friend said and i want to know if it's true (link)
as others have pointed out, stress can off-set the start of your period. This stress can either be mental stress, or physical stress in the form of high levels of physical exertion. During the volleyball season, my wife's period would be very irregular, skipping months at a time. Same went for the girls we coached later on (oh, they things I got to hear on the bus... ;) ) So, in a sense, it is nothing to worry about - but on the other hand, your period effects your body's ability to intake and use calcium as well as a few other things - make sure you're getting enough calcium in your system while you're period is being skipped. Like always, talk to a doctor about this, but you aren't in any danger.

Hey!I am 14 almost 15(august 17)and me and my boyfriend have been going out for 2months.And he says i am perfect and like the "one".And says that we will be together forever. And i feel the exact same way too.And he asked me to marry him and i said yes!But we are not going to get married till we are out of school! But did i do the right thing about saying yes???ill rate you if u answer!~Kristen~ (link)
The fact that you said "yes" to this is essentially meaningless.
You're only 14 (yes, soon to be 15) - there's a lot yet to learn, a lot yet to experience. You're early in learning about what love is, and odds aren't good that this relationship is going to last. Not to say that it can't happen, but the odds are against you. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I really really like this guy I'll call Mark, but he's going out with a different girl who I'll call Ruth. Ruth was at her cottage, and she called her best friend, and Mark was at her best friend's house! This is not the first time Mark did this, he cheated on a previous girlfriend with Ruth. The only problem is, how do I tell Ruth? She doesn't know, because her best friend lied and said it was her little brother. (link)
How do you know he was cheating on her? You've stated nothing to indicate this. A guy being at another girl's place does not magically mean that he's cheating. Unless one of them has stated that they were making out, rolling on the floor naked, or something along those lines (which you clearly did not indicate here) - then you have no proof for such a claim. All you said is that he was at someone's house - big deal. I've been to the homes of other women, does that mean I was cheating on my wife?

And thank you for the very mature rating. Your integrity and maturity are greatly appreciated.

My best guy friend wanted to kill himself. At least thats what he told me. He said it was because a girl didnt like him. He said that no one cared and that he had already tried before. It really worried me and I told him that I cared. As I was walking to the bus, it really hit me what he had said. When I got on the bus I realized that i liked him as more than a friend. The problem is, the next day he acted as if nothing happened. I'm not sure if he was telling the truth about wanting to kill himself. I'm only 13 but I have liked him for over 5 months. My question is ...........
Do you think you have to be a certain age to love? (link)
I think that at 13, there is a lot you have yet to experience... and I also think that this guy might be attempting to use his suicide threats as a way to garner sympathy from you, and perhaps control you. It would not be the first time I've seen such a thing happen.
That said, people who feign suicide generally need help, and relationships with them end up being very manipulative and unhealthy. Is that something you really want to get mixed up in?

I never told anyone this but I've been bulimic for 2 years. I know you may say that I should top but I can't. It's so hard, and I don't know what to do and I do not want to see a doctor. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
(link)
well, like it or not, you're probably going to have to see a doctor at some point...
...but perhaps you should find someone you trust, an adult that you know and can confide in, to talk to first. Get some support built up to help you. But you have to want to stop - I'm hoping that by having posted this, you are indeed wanting to stop.
Good luck.
