I'm preparing myself for next year at school, I'm researching film directors in which I can study for film studies.
I can study ANY director, but unfortunatley, they're not my strong point in this suject!
I was wondering if anyone would like to make a suggestion.
Which directors do you admire/like?
Which films have they directed, etc.
Many thanks :)
John Carpenter. He directed the original Halloween and both Escape from NY and Escape from LA.
He is a very influential director in the horror genre.
there is a lift i learned in football called a Clean this is what it looks like
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/OlympicLifts/Clean.html
what muscles does this work (this page confused me) and i cant really find any information on it due to its name.
Cleans are a great lift- one of my personal favorites. It's a systemic compound movment- with the legs and virtually all of the muscles of the upper body getting worked- combine this with a press (Otherwise known as the Clean and Jerk) and you have an excellent workout that builds shoulder strength and size. Become proficient at the actual Clean first though as it is quite technical and takes some practice. Learn it well and you'll get big and strong.
i want to gain muscle=eat more calories
i want to lose fat=eat less calories
i want to gain muscle=exercise
i want to gain muscle while not losing my bulk and not going skinny=???
bottomline, how do i gain muscle, while losing fat and exercising but not too much till i lose my bulk at the same time?
You don't. You're either bulking or cutting, unfortunatelty the body is not a hybrid so you can't do both at once.

im 15 male. 6'0 and about 175 pounds i have done weight training before. any suggestions are welcome
Wayyy too much for a 15 year old kid, not enough compound movements, there's not much rhyme or reason to the routine- it's too mish mash. Plus....you're not even including shoulders, which baffles me. In plain- your routine is quite bad for a strength cycle.
You've asked about this before and you seem like you have the enthusiasm and energy required but the response is still basically the same- If you want to look like and be strong like a bodybuilder; you have to train and eat like one. If you're playing football, I would imagine that your coach would explain to you that something like a deadlift, a chin up or a clean and press is a compound movement.
Check out Bodybuilding.com for some good references on how to arrange your splits. DON'T neglect compound movements. Good luck.
Ok so i know people drink raw eggs to liek get healthy but cant you get really sick from that??
There's always a possibility, but I've done it for years now and never ever had any ill effects at all.
What is the difference between the ACT and the SATs? Which do you think is better? Thanks for any help!
ACT gives a broader range of subjects. I took them both and I preferred the ACT and I got into college with my ACT scores over my SAT scores.
I'm a 13 year old female. So I was thinking about getting an electric moped that I would drive myself and my friends around the neighborhood (it's a 2 seater.) I wouldn't go out of my neighborhood and stuff and my neighborhood is a quiet out of the city neighborhood. Is it against the law to get one and ride it in my neighborhood without a license? I live in Rhode Island if that helps...
You need a valid driver's license.
Check Rhode Island's VTL if you want to see for yourself.
i read a question on here once where someone asked what the little "v" lookin thing on a girls lower back was, since not a lot of girls have it i guess.. and someone said its a muscle. i searched for the question but couldnt find it. if its a muscle, how can i tone my back so i can get it? certain exercises or anything. 16/f
That's the lower lumbar region.
Rows, Deadlifts and Hyperextenions work that area well.
ok here is my workout scheduale, im a male and 15, 5'10, 170 pounds
Chest and Biceps
Triceps and Back + shoulders
Legs can have their own day
One day should be committed to just cardio
One rest day, at least
Everyday you can do abs...abs are core muscles that can be worked everyday, along with obliques
Now I have some free weights, a flat bench, two bars, and thats about it. what are some excersises i can do with those to work thesse out the best i can for eachday
1. Chest and Back, Arms and Shoulders, and Legs with its own day is a better combination in my opinion. 3 days on, 2 days off is good for a beginner.
2. Yea abs are core muscles but NO they can't be trained everyday- that's a common misconception started by the same people who believe doing crunches burns stomach fat. Your core muscles are no different than any other muscles- why don't you train your abs everyday? The same reason you don't train your arms everyday...they need to rest. Rest is when growth happens- not when you're training.
3. Look up some info on circuit training- drag the target heart rate up to an aerobic level by exercising anaerobically and it is like doing cardio without having to actually do cardio and you're getting the best of both worlds at the same time.
4. From one bodybuilder to a younger, aspiring bodybuilder- You're 15... don't fall into the "All I do is bicep curls and bench presses" hole- learn your compound movements and excel at them.
My family wants to go for ice cream tonight but I'm on a diet. We're probably going to a stand in town. I know one stand that has fat free ice cream that I usually get but I'm not sure if were going there. Do most ice cream places have a fat free or no sugar ice cream option?? If not, would a small vanilla soft serve ice cream in a cup with sprinkles be okay to eat?? Any other ideas?? Thanks!!
Fat free and sugar free anything is worse for you than the regular stuff no matter what it says on the label so if you plan on having ice cream- you might as well just get the regular stuff and not bother wasting your money on something worse for you and more expensive.
I just saw this movie now. The original one, from 1970 something. I know this isn't asking for "advice", but I really want to know..
What happened at the very end after the priests died? Were the mom & daughter moving out because of the weird stuff? or were they going to live with the father in Europe?
Anyone's opinions are appreciated. :]
& thank you in advance.
That was 1973 and yes- Cris and Regan moved out because of the exorcism.
I'm trying to get into a routine. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is good
Day one: I work on chest, biceps, triceps, running
Day two: work on back, shoulders, abs, running
Day three: running
And on top of this mondays through thursday i have football weight conditioning and i'm going ot be beggining martial arts. is this good. suggestions of workouts or routines, what i should work on would be appreciated
Al gave great points- allow me to say this:
You are not going to get anywhere, your foundational strength isn't going to develop and you are going to look absolutely ridiculous if you don't train your legs. It's one of the biggest mistakes new lifters make. I know it's a heavy day and it taxes you, but suck it up and just do it. Ditch that last running day and make it your leg day.
After talking to a lot of coaches and watching different teams work out I really feel football doesn't teach you to do a whole lot properly in terms of weightlifting so learn how to squat, deadlift, bench and do the clean and press the proper way. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding is a great resource and I suggest you get it.
Okay, so my friend is 5' 3" and weighs 96lbs. I know that it's underweight and she looks pretty malnutritioned right now...if that's even a word?
Anywhos, she's a vegetarian and she doesn't eat 3 square meals a day from what I see. She'll eat something. It'll usually be something like a tomato for lunch or she'll just fill herself up with unhealthy foods like brownies or cookies. She's not anorexic at all, I can promise you that. Or bulimic for that matter. She doesn't have an eating disorder if that's what you're thinking. Well, anywhos, she was 98lbs in the beginning of the year and she was eating normally but she lost 2lbs and went down to 96lbs and she keeps on dropping weight VERY gradually. She does ballet and she babysits three times a week. And she goes to rock concerts...but other than that, she's pretty much sedative. There's not much stress going on for her, from what I see and it's summer time. Anyways, her mom took her to a nutritionist not too long ago but she wouldn't tell me what went on. She just told me the guy asked her lots of questions. I was wondering why she would be losing weight and what I could do to help her or something like that. Um, she's on anti depressants if that's help at all...and oh yeah. My mom banned me from her so my only means of communication is either through the computer or sneaking out to meet her Saturday in the mornings =X
Thanks very much! Oh yeah. She turned 16 not too long ago =)
I don't know enough about her situation and her lifestyle to really give an opinion, but whatever was ascertained at the visit to the nutritionist really is the business of her and her mother and though you seem like you want to be genuinely helpful- there's not much you can do because it's such a personal issue.
Nutritionists know far more than I do about foods and the metabolic processes caused by them, so I am sure that she's getting the help she needs assuming there was a problem to begin with.
But anyways. I'm 15/f and I'm 5' 5" and around 120-122lbs [it changes frequently between those numbers.] I know, I'm at the right weight. But I have issues with my stomach, thighs and legs. I need help on what I should do regularly to lose the fat and get lean. And yes, this is going to get long =)
I think I eat pretty healthy. I'm a vegetarian and I most of the time cook my own food since it's the summer and some other reasons. I also pretty much eat rice everyday [brown rice] since I'm Korean. [Don't worry. I'm from the south...] I don't eat junk foods like ice cream or cookies or candies or something like that. I splurge like maybe once every other month or something like that? Mostly only for celebration days like Christmas or birthdays. My family doesn't really go out to eat and we don't really buy fast food or order pizza unless we're uber busy, which doesn't happen much. I pretty much only drink water or tea so no soda problems for me. Um, yeah. My mom tries to cook food for me because she feels bad about me making my own food, but everytime she does, she pretty much dumps food for two people for me to finish by myself. So, help with that?
But since I don't eat meat, I get hungry pretty fast & I wanted to know what types of specific foods I need to eat that will fill me up and keep me filled up that is healthy and not very fattening. I'm not a very picky eater. I'll pretty much eat anything that doesn't have meat, animal broth, or gelatin in it.
Also, for the exercising part. I used to jog every other day when summer started, but I got really lazy recently. I'll restart on jogging again tomorrow and continue on with that. I'll probably jog starting around 7AM for a mile and walk the second mile. I'll try and run 2miles every other day. But other than that, are there any other simple exercises that I could do at home? I don't have excess to the gym and I have a pilates, yoga, and target toning video at home. That's pretty much it. Anything to specifically target my thighs and calves? I don't want to get muscular, though. Haha. Any other tips for me???
Sorry this was really long...
Thanks very much =)
Can't help you out with the portions that your mother gives you at dinner except to say that it's a matter of self discipline and restraint not to overeat.
Food that has fat and protein in it will fill you up fast- try to eat more nuts since you're a vegetarian and avoid the fruits and high sugar foods later in the night.
The running will do good for your legs, simple calisthenics like toe raises, push ups and sit ups never hurt to throw in either. Keep it simple, it takes time.
I am on the way to losing weight. I walk, I dance, and I do yoga. My problem is, my godmother put me on a diet, and she told me no carbs. WHAT, exactly, should I be eating in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle? (I know you're probably tired of answering this question, so I'm sorry!)
A healthy lifestyle means a healthy mix of nutrients. I know that the low/no carb thing is a craze but it is beginning to die out and most people eventually wind up failing on it anyway because it's not meant to be long term though people try and make it that way.
No carb diets are good for people who don't work out or those who don't exert themselves virtually at all when they exercise. People think they work wonders because you lose inches fast, but these inches are not fat it's just water weight because of a process with water in glycogen that I don't really wanna explain because its detailed lol. That is not my idea of balanced nutrition and exercise. Since you are pretty active- you need carbs; it's your body's main energy source. If you don't eat carbs then your body will begin to tap into muscle protein for energy- breaking down every muscular gain you have made. Some fat will be metabolized but not nearly as much as there will be when there is a balance of carbs and fat.
Two words are what is important with weight loss and it isn't "Low carb" or "No fat" its "Insulin Management". Learning how to eat is just as important as learning what to eat. Stick to lots of protein from fish, chicken, beef and eggs and slow digesting carbs early in the day (oatmeal, pasta) and fast digesting later in the day (Rice, fruit).
I promise you that there are no tricks or gimmicks. It's just hard work and good common sense eating.
how do u lose fat on your gut with out running to get abs
You don't.
was there ever a case in which the movie was better than the book?
The first Rambo movie- First Blood was better than the book.
Hey Mike. I am just curious, what is Steve Simmons' "The Movie Star Diet"? What do you do in it?
I need to lose my stomach, and some thighs. My stomach is unproportional to my small frame.
Help=[
It's just like any other crap diet, really. It can't take the place of eating good wholesome foods and just plain exercising.
Don't do it, it's one of myriad money making schemes in the fitness industry.
how do you know how fast your metabolism is?
Hold a radar gun to your stomach after you eat.
17/f 145 lbs 163 cm
I finally got registered at a gym (after weeks like wowww) and I was wondering how long I should be spending there, 3 days a week, and if I can push it, 4 days. If it's any help, I want to lose atleast 15 lbs by the end of summer (20 is preferred).
An hour to an hour and a half 3 days a week is plenty.
