about

Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

advice

There's this girl... and last year she bothered me/ called me names ALL year (she was in 3 of my classes). And the other day I was at my highschool for preseason soccer (we haven't started school yet) and she happened to be there for school pictures. She comes up to me and says, "Hey you ugly a** b****!" I was kinda mortified, if you know what I mean. And I really don't want my 4 high school years to be filled with being bullied around. I mean I'm tired of it and not really sure what to do or who to talk to...

You can either ask a question to a single columnist or to the site, preferably not both. So since you've already asked this question to the rest of the site and received answers I'm not going to answer it - sorry. I may answer this same question that you had asked to the site, but probably not until later because I am out of town right now and have limited computer access.

When your pregnant, do you still have periods? What about if you breastfeed?

No, you do not have your period while pregnant. Of course there are those extremely rare times where woman have extremely light bleeding, but like I said, extremely rare.
The second that baby pops out you will be able to start your period again. In fact, it could even get heavier than usual since you don't have it for nine months straight.

During breast feeding - yes, your period will come back. My neighbor breast fed and she still had her period. The only thing with breastfeeding is wihle you are doing it, your brests stay larged, once you stop, they shrink back down to normal. The suckish thing is that you will have a little leakage so a padded bra would be best that way there are no milk spots on your shirt.

I just lost track of what I was saying (multi-tasking is not for me) so I hope what I've said helps. If you're pregnant - congrats. If you were just wondering - I hope I helped.

Here is another link that has information ALL about mosquito bites - it wouldn't let me copy any specific sections, but this link has really good and really interesting information... http://www.totalvac.com/mosquito_bites.htm

17 female my exboyfriend told me he wanted to talk to have a talk with me I was just wondering is that bad or good?

You will never know until you talk. So go ahead and have that talk. If you are currently dating someone then you should let them know, you don't want them to get angry - it would be a justified anger.

I'm really bored. I wonder why other people aren't as bored as me. Please tell me everything you did for one day to week.
Thank you.

videogames, walk/run around the neighborhood, mall, movies, I'm going to the beach at the end of august, I went to the Taking Back Sunday//Angel and Airwaves concert, I went to the Lynard Skynard//3 Doors Down concert, I've been to the pool, I've just driven around with friends, I've had sleepovers and movie nights where we just get a bunch of movies and junk food and have a movie marathon, I've watched tv, I've been on myspace, this website, I've been to www.bored.com, I've gone to parties, I've listened to CD's and danced in front of the mirror -- just random funn stuff.

I understand what you mean about boredom, you just have to try and find something to entertain you. I get soo bored during the day when my friends are working or out somewhere. I don't have a car and my parents work from like sun up to sun down so they're not usually around to take me anywhere until night time so it kinda sucks. At least during the school year we have school to keep us busy and sports and clubs and stuff.

I have a friend she does nothing but drag me down and talk about my other friends. How do I tell her I don't won't to be her friend anymore?

Just tell her straight up that you can't be friends with someone who puts down your other friends - I have a friend who kind of gets like this, she criticizes everything - I usually don't say much but every once in a while I just tell her to shut up about it. I know that's not the best way to handle it, but it does work sometime.

Anyway, you just have to tell her that you need to talk to her and then straight up say " I'm sick of the way you're always badmouthing my friends, I'm not going to continue listening to you talking about them so if you want to keep doing it then I just can't be friends with you."

I think that might help her realize that she's being a complete jerk. It's polite too, it's nothing rude, you're not name calling, you're just telling her to either knock it off or that you can't be friends.

If you truly don't want to be her friend then you can do that one of two ways, dodge her phone calls or make excuses why you can't hang out. Or just tell her straight up that even if she were to change that you just think that the friendship has lasted too long for it's own good.

Continue being civil with each other, don't become her worst enemy or anything.

I was talking to my friend on the phone and she told me when she was depressed, she tried weed. I asked her if she still does it and she said no. Do I believe her or do I tell someone... or what?

You should believe her. That's what friends do - they believe other friends. Now if there are signs of her smoking weed or doing anything else that is any way against the law, you should try to intervene - but at your own risk.

Thanks but I'm just afraid of telling someone... who do I tell? and won't she get mad at me?

She may get mad at you, but it's definitly worth it. I'd rather lose a friend to a fight then to death because I was too scared of telling someone.

I mean, of course you have to try and confront her about it, see if any of it's true. I'm not sure how good you are at telling if people are or aren't lying, but she may lie about it if she's afraid you'll blab her secret.

If she starts rapidly losing weight then she may be doing any of those things, drinking, smoking, or suffering from anorexia.

It's scary when you have to tell someone, but just think of what could happen if you don't.

Don't spread anything around about her either. Don't talk to people and say "I'm worried about so and so because of such and such" you don't want to start rumors, even if it isn't on purpose. I mean, you can ask friends what they would do in that situation without dropping any names (like say someone came to your advice column asking about it.. something along those lines)
But who to tell - well, school is out for summer right now so I guess I can't really suggest a trusted teacher, but I have one teacher I trust with everything. She knows a bunch of stuff about my personal life... but hey, I could just be weird, I don't know if any other students have teacher relationships like that. But umm, are you close enough with either of her parents to tell them that you're concerned about her? What about any of her aunts/uncles/older cousins/grandparents... any type of adult family member of hers (or even yours) that would know what to do in that situation. Are you close enough to your mom to tell her that you think your friend is injuring herself? Moms are good like that where they can call up your friends parent and tell them what's up.

Hope I helped.

Ok, so my friend told me that her cousin told her that she was (who used to be my best friend) was anorexic and that she smokes and drinks. I'm afraid of her hurting herself or dying. What should I do?

This kind of confused me, let me state the question I think that you're asking me that way you know what I'm answering, so if I don't answer your question correctly you'll know why.

Your friend told you that her cousin (your old best friend) is anorexic, and that she also smokes and drink. You're afraid of her getting hurt, or worse, dying. You want to know what to do.

Okay, well the only thing you can do in a situation like this is tell someone. Trust me, I was anorexic, and that is a disease that NOBODY can handle on their own. Many people have died from anorexia. I actually know an amazing movie you can watch about anorexia. It's called "For the Love of Nancy" Tracee Gold plays Nancy, a young adult who suffers from anorexia and refuses to get treatment so her parents take her to court to get custody over her medical life. It's a really good movie.

You should try and get the friend to watch it with you one night. I saw it for the first time in foods 1 class but it also came on lifetime once at like 3:30am and I watched it then too.
Tracee Gold, the girl who plays anorexic Nancy suggered from anorexia while starring on Growing Pains as Carol (I think that was her characters name)

Anyway, that movie will prove to you that all people suffering from anorexia NEED help! It's impossible to get through this alone. People think that it's easy to recover once you realize you have a problem, but it isn't. I'm focusing on the anorexic thing most because it's something I experienced myself. When someone suffering from anorexia looks into the mirror the reflection that they see is actually different than their true reflection. They don't see the skinny person and just call themselves fat, they actually see an obese person in the mirror. It's a very sad disease. Anorexics get to the poin where it becomes nearly impossible to eat without choking on their food. (which happens a lot during recovery)

If this girl is truly anorexic, then you NEED to tell her parents/gaurdians. Include to them that she does other dangerous activities such as smoking and drinking and that the needs immediate help before she herself passes away from such a horrible thing.

If you need anything else feel free to drop another question into my inbox

How old do you have to be to get a lipring in Georiga?
thx.

If you go with one of your parents/gaurdians then it won't matter. Usually you have to be 18 to get any kind of piercing/tattoo without your legal parents/gaurdians with you.

Or (with some places) you can get your parents to make a copy of their license (a paper copy) and have them sign something giving you their permission and you can go up on your own to get it.

im taking arabic lessons and i was just wondering how do you say my love in arabic... thns in advance!
take care

I don't know the correct spelling but my neighbors across the street are from Egypt and they say it all the time, they tought me the correct pronounciation, but you'll have to work with me on the spelling.

Habeeby?
Pronounced Hah-bee-be

It's the only arabic term I know, so I know that I didn't confuse it with any other arabic terms.

can sum1 help me with adding a picture to my advice column its not workin!!

You will have to edit the picture to fit the size that is appropriate for this site. I know that there are ways to get around that (such as photobucket) but not everyone wants to go to a columnists personal site to see an overly large picture. Something small and simple is best, that's why I just say go to edit the picture and shrink it (under the image section) until it's small enough) Or, upload it to photobucket, but don't make it too large and put it in the url section of the picture under profile settings.

How do you make stuff bold in your column. I put
< b > and then < b / > but without the spaces, only it made everything bold, not only the word I wantd.
please help..
thanks
xox
Lauren

It took me a second to figure this one out, but that's because I didn't notice that you had your slash "/" after the b, it's supposed to come before the b like this < / b > (only without the spaces)

I am a guy and have a really embassing question i dont want toask anyone i know and dont want to ask the doctor either but when i go pee it sometimes stings and when im done it seems to continue to dribble out of my penis for a while after . this ends up staining my undies. i am not sure why it continues to dribble for so long as well as stinging while i am peeing.

Well because I'm not a doctor I can not diagnose you with anything. If I had to guess then I would think bladder infection. I do suggest you talking to the doctor because if it isn't taken care of then whatever is causing this could possibly become more severe.

Again, I'm not a doctor so I can't diagnose anything and I suggest going to see one. If you're embarassed to talk about it then you'll have to try and get over that because you never know how serious or not serious something is until you get it checked out.

I started smoking marijuana around January of this year. Then the second time I did it was during spring break (twice). Then did it a few more times after that. I noticed I had to stop whenever my cravings for it were ridiculously scary. (does that make sense? i had swelling throat, face getting hot, room spinning etc.) So I didn't do any for 2, almost 3 months, but still craving it like HECK. But anyways, a lot of people at school found out what me and my friends have been doing, and didn't approve of it at all. These people are really close friends of mine, and claim to care about me, but then again their boys..so who knows? Cause for about..6 months, they've been calling me names and basically degrading me. I understand that they're not happy about it, but if they care, then shouldn't they be trying to help me, instead of "kicking me when i'm already down"? But yeah, I stopped for 2 months, but then just about a week ago, the urge won over me, and I got stoned. Yeah it felt good, but I hate myself for doing it. "guilty pleasure". Even worse, those boys who i would like to think of as my friends, found out. and they were super...mean. Basically, all of them look down at me now, like i'm below them. I don't talk to any of them anymore, cause they don't want to talk to a "pot head". I'm trying to stop, I really am. Why is it so hard for them to realize that people make mistakes? I'm only human.

Well once we get over the fact that most guys are jerks, we also have to realize that there are some closed minded people out there. Maybe their opinions would change if people found out about some of the skeletons they have in their closet. I'm not saying that you should find something bad about them and spread it, but maybe try to talk to them and try and get them to understand what's going on with you. I know most people would say yelling doesn't get you anywhere, and it probably doesn't, but if they really don't listen, what else are your options. Try and corner them in, intimidate them, and MAKE them understand what's going on.
Either that or ignore them all together. It's really your only options. I mean, I'm sure ignoring their comments would be the "better" choice, but there are always other options. Not neccessarily better options, but there's never just one option.

Anyway, is that really all you wanted? You don't want any advice on the whole mariguana issue? I'm not going to give unasked for advice... so if you want any advice on that, send me another inbox and I'll let you know what I think about that.

Ohh, and of course you're only human. Everyone makes mistakes. Those guys need to get over themselves, get over your "bad" decisions. I put bad in quotes because though it's an illegal and not very smart, it's your decision and well, it's up to you what you want to do. But yeah, either try and talk to them and get them to understand. Realize that some guys are just big jerks, or ignore them. That's about all I can come up with.

At least you know that somseone out there understands that you made a mistake and you are (hopefully) trying to fix it.

If you ever want to talk, send me a question here or e-mail me (I think my e-mail adress is listed) if not ask for it. Or you can call teen talk. (or google their website) the number is on my column.

Hope I've helped.

Can you shave your legs using soap and will it give you razor burn?

Yes you can shave your legs using soap. That's what I use when I'm out of shaving cream. Just make sure you lather them up pretty good since soap isn't as thick. And you could get razor burn whether or not you use shaving cream. I personally have never gotten it (knock on wood) but I know people who have and I know that they use shaving cream. So I don't really think it matters what you use, you can (thought not neccessarily will) get razor burn with or without using shaving cream.

i am not pregnant, but i havent had my period since february, and before then i didnt have it since september, whats wrong with meeee?! HELP

That's completely normal. Especially if you're withing the first 2-3 years of having your period (could even be longer). I've had my period for over a year now, yet I've only gotten it about 5-7 times. It's actually quite nice, thought it is a surprise when it actually comes.

Other than it being annoying that you don't get it on a regular basis, there erally isn't anything wrong with you. Now if you skip about 6 months, that's when you want to schedule an appt with your doctor.

I'm looking for something that will permanently remove hair. I was thinking about getting one of those pen type hair remover things. Have any of you ever used one? Does it really work? Is it easy to use? (I can't afford real electrolysis.)

I have never used one, but I did some research and they don't look too safe. Here are some links for you.

http://www.hairfacts.com/makers/transdermal/epen.html

^Read all of the reviews, majority of the people say that the product does not work and was a waste of their time and money.

Does any one know where you can buy a john deer hat?

My older brother works full time at John Deere, I pretty much tell him what I want and he orders it out of the category.
BUT
You can get them at Pac Sun (Pacific Sunwear), just about any hat store, wal-mart, target, places such as that. Do you live in the north? That may be why it's harder to find them. Don't get me wrong, my brother works in NY (that's where we are from) but I moved to North Carolina and there are John Deere hats and clothing all around. You can also get John Deere merchandise and Goodies if you have one. Possibly Kohls, I'm not too sure about there though.

If there are any John Deere factories near you then you could most likely go there. If you know anybody who works at John Deere then they could buy you some hats out of the employee catelouge for about $5 rather than the $30 and $30 that most others buy them for.

You can get them practically anywhere in the south though.
