Nallie answered Tuesday August 8 2006, 11:45 pm: If there is any bleeding during a pregnancy, it is abnormal and not considered a period. It does not always mean that there will be a miscarriage, but that is something that should be ruled out by a physician.
Just to clarify a few of the things that were posted by others as an answer. The bleeding that occurs in the postpartum stage (immediatly after delivery) is not a period. If the Mother is not breastfeeding a normal menstrual cycle should resume in 6-8 weeks. Breastfeeding does suppress the period yes, so most women will not have a period during this time. The exception would be if the Mom does not nurse on a regular basis, or when she starts to supplement with foods or a bottle. This will cause a change in hormone levels.
The "padded bra" answer and a "little" leaking, sure brought back memories.... and I wish it was that simple! Any mom's on here who have given birth and breastfed or not, knows that the 'let down' reflex is a powerful thing. They make nursing pads that are inserted in the bra, but most of the time it still soaks through. Sometimes it litterly runs out!
Just so you know, women can get pregnant again during the time that they do not have a normal period, either postpartum and or during breastfeeding. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

The second that baby pops out you will be able to start your period again. In fact, it could even get heavier than usual since you don't have it for nine months straight.
During breast feeding - yes, your period will come back. My neighbor breast fed and she still had her period. The only thing with breastfeeding is wihle you are doing it, your brests stay larged, once you stop, they shrink back down to normal. The suckish thing is that you will have a little leakage so a padded bra would be best that way there are no milk spots on your shirt.
I just lost track of what I was saying (multi-tasking is not for me) so I hope what I've said helps. If you're pregnant - congrats. If you were just wondering - I hope I helped. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]

On average, this occurs five days after conception and may be confused with an early period, especially if the woman is not keeping close track of her cycles.
However, there are some women that claim they had a "period" all through there pregnancy. These occurnces are not known yet wether to be factual or not though.

LaurieA answered Tuesday August 8 2006, 6:23 pm: Usually, you will not get a period. There are some cases, though, where you will have some type of light bleeding for a couple months when your body would usually have a period. My mother did this when she was pregnant with all three of us. [ LaurieA's advice column | Ask LaurieA A Question ]
