Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!
advice
I have a bit of iritation in my vagina area, I've never had sex, I am only 15, so it isn't related to that, I think it is probably just irritation from rubbing up against something. What can I do about this/is it normal? thanks
I'm truly only answering this because it has yet to be answered and I hate when my questions go unanswered. Because I am no doctor and haven't ever experienced what you're experiencing I can not give you the answer you are most likely looking for. What I can say is what I would do in this situation which is hopefully of some sort of help to you. Being a virgin is good because it means that you are able to rule out most STD's (funny how you can still get them without having sex.) That should be a relief. What I would do is just take a shower to get my entire body clean and wait a while to see if the irritation reoccurs. But before I were to take the shower I'd still tell my mom (or whomever is the adult female in your life) and ask if she thinks it's important for you to see a doctor. It may be nothing and it may be something. Your best bet is to see a doctor. If it is something then the quicker you get it checked out, the better.
is there any way for me to show what groups i'm in on my myspace? i can't figure it out and it's bothering me
Unless you have a premade layout that hides them, they should have showed up automatically. Now if you're good with computers you can go through the code for the premade layout and change it so that it won't hide them. But otherwise, groups should automatically show. Go to account settings and check to make sure your groups aren't hidden. That's about all I can think of. I'm usually pretty good when it comes to that stuff, but it takes me a while to mess with the computer to figure out what the problem is.
in like a week or so i'm getting 2 teeth pulled in the back of my mouth. im scared shit because i don't know what to expect. when i'm under the anethesia will i feel any pain? will i feel pain after it's done? is there any way that the anethesia will wear off while they are pulling my teeth out? WHAT IF I DONT WAKE UP FROM THE ANATHESIA??
im sooooo scared i need to know these answers. if you had teeth pulled out tell me EVERYTHING.
I'm going to tell you exactly as it is. I've probably had 6+ teeth pulled in my life so I should be an expert at this.
You get to go under anesthesia? Lucky. All they did was numb me. I think the most I've had pulled once was anywhere from 2-3. I've had a lot of baby teeth pulled because they just would not come out and I needed my braces. I'm an expert at it. They numbed me (which sucks because they use a needle to do it and I'm scared of needles) and that was the worst of the process. I don't know how they do it, I guess a lot of pulling because you can hear what they're doing and that kind of freaked me out. And like you could feel it, but at the same time you can't. Like you know that they're pulling at it, but you can't actually feel it. Then of course is the sucky part - the aftermath. There is obviously going to be bleeding (just like when you pull out your own tooth. The dentist should give you some gause to put in the hole to help control the bleeding. When you drink stuff - NO straws. After the bleeding stops a clot will form. That's a good thing. But if you break that clot by not following the dentists direction - there will be a LOT of sensitivity and a LOT of pain. So as long as you do what the dentist says you should be okay. Such as no drinking through straws. Also it's just easier to chew on the other side of your mouth. Ignore any urges to poke it with your tongue. Uhh, even though I don't like tomato soup that's what I ate every time I ever got a tooth pulled because it's just easier. You can dunk some crackers in it too. I think I stuck with drinking water/milk/fruit juice. For some reason I didn't want to deal with carbonation.
But anyway, my dentist gave me a a sheet of paper telling me what stuff not to do, so if your dentist doesn't do that, ask. And if you want to know what he/she is doing, ask for them to walk you through it before hand or during it. Of course if your under anesthesia then you probably won't have a clue what's going on. Oh, and don't be scared about not waking up from the anesthesia, I've never heard of that happening. =D. Oh and I didn't feel any pain afterwards, just the annoying urge to poke at it. And there is always a possibility that the anesthesia will wear off, it happened to my sister getting her tonsils pulled. But if at anytime you feel that happening - let the dentist know they can stop working and help you immediately. I was once getting a cavity filled and the numbing wore off because they waited too long to start the work, I told my dentist and he fixed the problem right away. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. Any more teeth pulling questions? Send something to my inbox.
i dont have a lot of money except for my few best friends. so for everyone else, i want to get a candy bag. what should be in the bag, what type of bag should it be, and how much candy should there be? this is the first time im doing this, so i kind of need some direction.
thanks!
That's what I do every year for my not as close friends. I buy about 4-5 bags of those fun size variety candies and divide them up equally into 7-8 piles. I try and find those mini bags but if I can't find them I try to find the actual candy bags (though I'm never sure where to get them, usually near the candy aisle). Anyway, it all depends on the amount of friends. Try to get some variety in the candies though. Don't make them all chocolates or all hard candy. This year I got candy canes, crunch bars, reeses, butterfinger, and some others, I cna't think of them all. I couldn't find any small bags so I put them in ziplock backs (but I may look for the colored versions of brown paper bags. It would be a whole lot easier than putting a little bit of candy in the larger bags.
Anyway, my sentence strucure isn't all that great tonight so before my horrific typing disturbs you I think I'll just end my advice here. Happy holidays!
ok well i started my first period october 29th 2006 and it is now dec 10 th and i have not started again is it normal?im worried will it come again anytime soon? help please!!!!!!!!!!
Yaeh, that's very normal. I started my period in March of 2004 and I've only gotten my period maybe a total of 7 or 8 times in that 21ish month period. So yeah, it's fine. Now if you were to go like 6 months without having it then I would see a doctor, but otherwise you're okay.
My friends have told me that you don't need to study for driver's ed..that it's all common sense and just plain easy.
Should I take their advice and not study? I've asked friends from other states and schools and they've all said that studying is pointless, but no one I know has had my driver's ed teacher before.
I would suggest studying for your permit test. The driving part is easy, but the test part (for we) was rather difficult. I though it would all be commong sense so I glanced through the book before my test. Most of the questions I got were percentages and number questions. Like what percentage of people in my location drive drunk and stuff like that. I even have one question where my instructer told me one thing but the correct answer on the test was something else (And the correct answer was in the book too!) so always read the book. Pay attention to detail, but don't skip over the other stuff. It'll all come in handy. As long as you memorize your signs (which is actually pretty easy after looking over them for a few days) it's not that bad.
The class was a cinch compared to the permit test I had to take though. I'll be honest with you, myself, and a few of my friends fialed the first time. Like I told you, I got a lot of percentage questions, you may get the easier questions. The second time I took it I had a really easy test (because duh, they have like 100000000 different copies)
I'd at least skim the book before taking the test. A lot of it is common sense, except the percentages and stuff- that was kind of tricky.
Hey!I am from Puerto Rico (talk spanish and English could reply in any both languages) Im Jay and I need some help in memorizing my monologue today is Tuesday and its for Saturday and i Dont know eally well on how to memorize all that stuff its like a page and a half I think its too long for the time they gave us , bubt if you have anby technique for me please help ME@!
Waiting for your advise!
Write or type it 5 times (but don't use any copy or pasting). Then type it from end to start (by paragraphs) THEN try and sing it - make up a tune you can sing it to and sing it (not necessarily out loud, you can sing it in your head) that should really help.
Writing/typing it will probably help the best.
Hey! Well, I'm 14/f and I was wondering, since I have a cingular phone (Nokia), how do you put pictures from your cell phone onto the computer? Thanks
You can either e-mail them to yourself, which costs money. Or you can get this cord thingy (sorry, I don't know what it's called, but the cingular company told me about it when I asked them exactly what you've asked here) and it costs anywhere from $20-$50 (I don't remember the cost) and you hook it up to your phone and computer and it will transfer the pictures. It's a lot cheaper to buy the cord thingy, especially if you take and use a lot of pictures with your phone. You should talk to someone who works at a cingular store.
Sorry for this being so long. In my school, there are three different teams for the seventh grade. They are 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3. I am currently on 7-2. At the beginning of the year, I already knew that I would be having problems. The teacher isn't exactly the greatest teacher and she is very unpatient and yells all the time saying that it is our fault if we don't understand something. My mom went up to the school and asked the principal to switch me to a different team. They said no because it was illegal and there were too many students on the other teams. For the last nine weeks, I had a C on my report card. I normally make a high B or an A. In all of my other classes I had A's. Now, I still have A's in all of my classes except for math still, which is a 79. I have asked my math teacher for help numerous times and she has told me that I don't need help. I even asked her for help on a quiz that I made a 10 on and she still said that I don't need help. My parents have hired a tutor and that is helping some but I am still struggling. Over 30 people on 7-2 are failing and there have been many complaints about this teacher. She will not return e-mails or phone calls. My mom wrote a note to the front office today requesting that I be moved to the 7-3 math class since the teacher is very good on that team. If they say yes, I will still remain on 7-2 it's just that I will go to 7-3 for math. If they say I cannot do this, I know I will fail math. The other parents have suggested that they all go together and complain to the front office about this teacher. Is this a good idea or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I too had a problem with a math teacher, it was my algebra 2 teacher and the problem was that she never really taught, not only that, but she showed up to school less than most of the students. The school couldn't do anything unless they received MANY complaints from MULITPLE parents. So I think it's a brilliant idea for all the parents to go up at once, maybe it will help get the schools attention. But, also look at things from an administrators view. It's hard to hire new teachers during the year. I've had a few classes where teachers have moved and we went weeks without a true teacher which is actually harder than having a crappy teacher. So what the school may end up doing (if they act) is keeping the teacher on until the end of the semester, or even the end of the school year. Which pretty much screws you over, but it helps out the next classes which is a positive thing.
So the school may not be able to act quickly, but it's a great idea to ahve all those parents go and complain. But also think about this - if all of the students who have this teacher for math are donig poorly, it will complicate things A LOT. You probably aren't the only student that wants to be put on another team (at least for math class) and the school really can't only switch a few of you and not all of you, and it would be much too hard for the school to switch all of you. So the school may be trying to figure something out, but it's a hard thing to do, even if it seems simple.
Hello. I lost my lighter, would it be okay if I lighted my ciggarettes with matches instead? Please let me know. I know this sounds dumb but I just need to be sure! Thanks!
You mean if you lit your ciggarettes with matches instead? Yeah, if you can't compose a sentence using the proper tense of terms, you probably shouldn't be smoking. But to actually answer your question instead of just being a smart butt, yes, you can light a ciggarette by use of matches.
What are really fun hings to do with friends? not too many people just like 4-6. It has to make me seem like a reall cute sweet and fun girl. What can I do? How do i act? What do i wear?
Mall, movies, bowling and mini golf are all good ideas. I know bowling and mini golf may not seem like as much fun with a small amount of people, but trust me, if it's a fun group then it will be a fun time. I'm not sure where you live or what's near you so I can't give you too many good suggestions. Those are the best that come to mind right now. (Plus it's pretty much all there is to do where I live so it's hard for me to suggest more without knowing where you live). Plus I would also need to know if anyone can drive? There are A LOT more suggestions for people who drive and don't need transportation from others. Such as just a day long road trip, have everyone chip in like $20 for gas and food and just drive around listening to music and find random places to stop that look cool. My friends and I are all planning a trip to the zoo before the year is up (we're high school juniors - yeahh weird haha). But just acting crazy and immature is fun. At the mall you can go into random stores and just try on the most ridiculous clothes and as stupid as it sounds my friends and I do stuff like that to cheer each other up when we're in a bad mood. Same with the driving around listening to music. There's this one song that cheers me up no matter what mood I'm in, it's called Brand New Girlfriend by Steve Holy (I'm listening to it right now, it's a country song but it's really funny and it's really good). Anyway, my cell phone was stolen last week at school and I had failed a test that same day and was just in a bad mood, I went out with one of my friends that afternoon doing some stuff for her work and we went to a pet store, we went to the mall, we just hung out for a couple hours after school doing random stuff. We saw a place we thought was cool and went to see if we were right. Playing that song every time we got into the car.
Another cool thing to do would be if there are any amusement parks nearby. We have this one called Carowinds and at nighttime on weekends they turn it into a haunted thing called Scarowinds. Now that it's just about Halloween time there are a lot of Halloween related haunted trails and stuff. That actually sounds like a lot of fun and I'm pretty sure I'm going to some with my friends. Just find people who would know locations of things like that and make the plans.
Sorry this is so long, I was just thinking of things that I could do with some of my friends and I'm putting it into the answer.
If I knew your age and location I could have been more specific.
if i go to a cheap nail place, how much does it usually cost to get fake nails put on? and also around how long do they stay on?
You can get them done cheaply if you know people, but most likely you don't, so I would say anywhere from $20-$30. Which isn't that bad. They usually last about a month if you take care of them, you should probably change them after about 3 weeks though. If you want to take them off you should either pay to have it done by the nail place, or you can buy the stuff to soak your nails in (you can get it pretty much anywhere) don't try and just pull them off because even though people do that it's a pretty dumb idea and can mess up your nails (not to mention how painful it can be)
Is Ben Savage from Boy Meets World dead?
I saw myspace bulletins about his death but I heard it's a joke.
I also saw the bulletin and then reposted it thinking he was dead. But then another columnist on here (Mackenzie) searched it because neither of us had heard anything - she hasn't found a single thing stating he's died. It's not true, if he would have died then there would be something other than a myspace bulletin saying it (like with Steve Irwin, sad thing for me is that's how I found out he died - the myspace bulletin).
But nope, as far as I know Ben Savage is still alive.
13/f/8th grade. my parents are getting divorced, and my mom said that as soon as she was completely divorced from my dad, i could get my bellybutton pierced, and i plan on doing that. give me some advice on where to do it and what to put in and stuff.
EDIT --
Have you ever gotten your cartilidge pierced (the very top of your ear)? If so, about that much. It sings more than just a regular ear piercing, but that's because they stick a needle/pin (whatever you want to call it) through the skin near your belly button. It's not an insane type of pain, it's just a sting that lasts a little bit longer than most.
----------------------------------------------The best place to get your bellybutton pierced would be at a doctors office. It costs more there, but it's much more sanitary. If you don't want to get it done at a doctors office then just go to wherever piercing place is located near you (they tend to do piercings and the same places they give tattoos). There are specific rings for belly buttons - so go buy one that you really like (you can get them practically anywhere) and wherever you get it pierced should come with cleaning solution. That's really all you need. It is going to hurt a little though, just to let you know (though I'm sure you already know).
welll my sister is a size 34a bra and she's 15, my mom well idk what size she was before she got a boob job, haha probably something a? so yeah im 13 and im a 32a. does that mean im automatically gonna have small boobs like them? does it have anything to do with it? thanks
No, it doesn't mean you're automatically going to be small in size, but it does mean that you will most likely be smaller in size. Once you get into biology (it was 10th grade for me) then you learn about genes (you probably already know about them, but you go more into depth with them) and you learn if they're dominant or recessive and so on. But it depends on the genes of your mom/grandma/great grandma etc. on your size. If they were all small then it's most likely you will be too.
okay so what does the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" mean
It means that everyone else's life is better than yours. Which is why people say that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Everyone has issues, just everyone thinks that they're the only people with problems. Then you come to a site like this and you see that maybe you're not the only one with an imperfect life.
But yeah, the saying just means that people compare their own lives to other people's and then they realize that their life isn't so bad.
I found out that quite a few classmates of mine have tried marijuana or weed. This really shocked me because I didn't think highschoolers did that sort of thing, or that drugs were even available. They told me that the drugs really aren't that bad, that they're actually safer than cigarettes, and that they aren't addictive. Are they right? How many highschoolers do drugs usually? Am I naive to have believed that?
You were somewhat naiive to think that high schoolers don't do drugs. High school is usually where it all starts. (Though I know someone who has been doing them since I think the 7th grade)No matter what anyone tells you, drugs ARE bad. In some ways they are safer than ciggarettes, but in other ways they are much worse. Drugs mess with your mind, cigarettes mess with you physically. That (in my mind) is the biggest difference. You asked how many high schoolers do drugs, there isn't really a good answer to that. It depends on the area, the availability, the personality of the students. At my school I would have to say drinking is much more popular than smoking. There are all the cliques, preps, jocks, loners, stoners, goths, skaters, nerds, geeks, the brainy kids, punks, etc. There are also the individuals (it's ironic how there's a group of individuals). Stoners aren't the only ones who do drugs, I know jocks that do drugs, I know smart people who do drugs, heck there are nerds who do them to try and fit it.
Doing drugs is one of the worst ways to fit in. Now I'm not saying EVERY jock or EVERY prep does drugs, but usually you'll find at least one or two people in each clique that have at least tried smoking pot. I'm not a fan of drugs myself, but I will admit that I've tried it.
It's a bad thing to get yourself into. Technically pot isn't addictive, but there are multiple problems that arise from doing pot. You'll get bored of just smoking weed and only getting that type of high. Then you'll want to move on to bigger and better things such as cocaine and ecstacy, you'll start to pop pills maybe inject the drugs into yourself. All those things are what is addictive. So smoking pot alone isn't addictive, but as friends of mine who smoke have told me, they get bored with just pot and move on to thing that give them a bigger high, that's when the drugs that they use become addictive.
If you want to get that feeling of high, do something exciting with your life. Go rock climbing or bungee jumpting. Go pairasailing or sky diving. Do something fun - don't waste your life with weed. Honestly, the only thing that makes smoking pot so great is the feeling of freedom it gives you, where nothing matters but getting that next fix. You don't want that. I know you didn't mention whether or not you ever wanted to try drugs, but that is one thing you shouldn't consider. It's messed up some of my friends lives. I've had friend who have overdosed and died from doing drugs - drugs are bad news.
In my opinion, it's okay to have friends who do drugs, but don't be around them while they smoke - because if you're with them and they get busted, you get busted too. Also, if they try to get you to smoke with them and you say no, they may ask once more, just hold your ground and they'll back down. If they don't back down and try to force any drug on you they are NOT your friends.
I'm sorry this is SO long, but I've seen a lot of people misuse drugs and get hurt, I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else.
Hey, this isn't a question.. Just saw you were from North Carolina and thought I'd ask where at? I'm from North Carolina too. (Eastern) You may not of heard of it-- Jacksonville?
good Luck with your column, it looks great.
I live in the piedmont region -- I live in Concord. Right outside of Charlotte, but I'm originally from Syracuse New York. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Jacksonville unless I'm just thinking of Florida or something haha. That's pretty cool though.
I am a junior in high school. I am not taking any honors or AP classes, and I am really struggling to even pass a class. I have mostly D's and only 2 A's: in choir and in cooking, which are both slack classes. It's not like I don't try. I DO try. I study constantly but I still get horrible grades. It it wasn't for completion assignments I wouldn't be in high school.
Question: Is there hope for me after high school?
There is always hope for those willing to try. Besdides, when it comes to colleges, usually the only grades they take are tests and I suppose if they give projects then they grade those too.
Homework is optional in college (as far as I know) but of course it's still wise to do it so you learn the material. Colleges usually take up papers, they usually give out tests, and I'm not sure about all other assignments.
But anyway, this is our (I'm also a junior) junior year, it's a tough one. I've taken honors courses in the past but this year I went for an easier schedule (which was probably dumb on my part) but what you have to do is study like crazy - don't look for ANY short cuts. Do your best. Talk to your teachers. That can't help you if they don't know you're struggling. Let them know that you're doing your best but you still don't seem to be working up to your personal expectations. See if they can help tutor you or help you in some other way.
Is it that you just can't seem to understand the material? Or is it that you think you know what you're doing, but you end up doing it wrong?
Hmm, well I have to get ready for school now, but if you want to drop me a line to my inbox we can talk.

is crest whitestrips or the rembrant brnad bad for braces? my mom says it will dull the metal and bleach the colored 0-rings on them i dono.
Yes, it is bad for them. Wait until you get your braces removed, then start using the crest whitestrips. The good thing, they actually work. I still have my braces on, but once my sister got her braces removed she started using them and there were positive results.
But anyway, it would be much smarter to wait.
