Question Posted Tuesday September 5 2006, 10:15 pm
I am a junior in high school. I am not taking any honors or AP classes, and I am really struggling to even pass a class. I have mostly D's and only 2 A's: in choir and in cooking, which are both slack classes. It's not like I don't try. I DO try. I study constantly but I still get horrible grades. It it wasn't for completion assignments I wouldn't be in high school.

I am not sure if it was the fact that I was taking classes that I thought I would never use or didn't want to take. When I went to our local tech school for Power Plant I ended up actually helping my teacher teach some of the advanced classes. I think I excelled here because it was something I was really interested in and wanted to do.... You just need to find what interests you. [ Robby001's advice column | Ask Robby001 A Question ]

What you can do is get extra tutoring throughout high school, and then go to a community college immediately after high school, for 6 months to a year and take basic college classes, and try really hard and make sure you have tutoring, and if you get all a's and b's while doing that, your high school mess up's will be erased and replaced with what you did at the community college, so then after that you can apply to a better college and all theyll be able to look at is how well you did at the community college, but make sure to continue with tutoring and extra help [ VainTaraLynn's advice column | Ask VainTaraLynn A Question ]

Homework is optional in college (as far as I know) but of course it's still wise to do it so you learn the material. Colleges usually take up papers, they usually give out tests, and I'm not sure about all other assignments.
But anyway, this is our (I'm also a junior) junior year, it's a tough one. I've taken honors courses in the past but this year I went for an easier schedule (which was probably dumb on my part) but what you have to do is study like crazy - don't look for ANY short cuts. Do your best. Talk to your teachers. That can't help you if they don't know you're struggling. Let them know that you're doing your best but you still don't seem to be working up to your personal expectations. See if they can help tutor you or help you in some other way.
Is it that you just can't seem to understand the material? Or is it that you think you know what you're doing, but you end up doing it wrong?
Hmm, well I have to get ready for school now, but if you want to drop me a line to my inbox we can talk.
