Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

At what age do teenagers usually get past basic levels of thought and begin thinking more intellectually? What I mean is...when do they start to form their own opinions, have some idea of what they want out of life, and just generally gain a more adult outlook?
I loved DN's answer, just to let you know. I agree with a lot of what he said but I also think it varies on the person.
On this website I can name one person who was extremely mature for as long as I've been here (since she was 13 or 14) and that is RainbowCherrie. She is an amazing columnist and seems to me (although I don't know her in real life) very smart and the type of person who knows what she wants out of life. I could be wrong though.
I myself think I have already made it to about 3/4ths of the level you're referring to. I didn't start to mature until I came to this site. I actually had a few columnists here tell me (in nicer words) to grow up, stop typing like an idiot, and try to mature a bit. For some reason, I listened.
I have learned to type in complete sentences, use proper grammar, and spell as best as I can.
I have a lot of ideas of what I want out of life. I have known what I wanted to do (career wise) since the age of about 8. My mind is currently in a fog. I am now stuck between hree career choices, each differing in many ways. Teacher, therapist, lawyer. Weird, huh?
I have decided that I want to live my life as best as I can. To do as much as I can before I die. I have decided that I want to face my fears even though when I get the chance most of the time I back out. I know that I want to let the people I care about know that I care about them because you never know when that chance will leave you.
I think that when your young it takes something big to happen in your life to make you get that outlook. I've had a few people close to me either move far away to where I lost touch with them for years. I've had people very close to me pass away unexpectedly. I think that is what has given me such an intense outlook on my life and they was I treat other people. I believe strongly in karma and that if you do good by other people then somewhere and somehow something good will happen to you. Not in the greedy sense, but in the you deserve this sense of things. I also believe that if you were a horrible person all your life that unless you change for the better your life isn't going to go so well.
I consider myself to have an adult perspective on a lot of things. I also consider myself to be an immature 16 year old at sometimes. If someone makes me mad I'll talk really loudly on purpose so they can hear me just to try and get a rise out of them. I'm 16, I should know better, I do know better, but what can I say, I haven't grown up all the way yet?
Like I said, I'm about 3/4ths of the way. I know when I'm doing wrong (most of the time). I know the difference between right and wrong (except when it truly is difficult to determine). There are a lot of variables to include when deciding if somebody had the basic levels of thought and begin thinking more intellectually.
I think I do that for the most part. But like I said, I still have a few immature qualities. I'm also still a kid (for the most part) and want to just have fun. I don't want to grow up all the way yet. I still have the idea in my head that adults can't have much fun. (Even though truly I know they can). That I want to live to the fullest while I still have the chance, before I decide I'm too old to accomplish something.
I know in my heart that you never really are too old to do something you love - no matter what it is. A friend of mine told me to remember that the impossible is really saying I'm possible. I love that quote, I don't know if he found it or made it up, but I love it.
I know you probably wanted some kind of straight up answer. Or that you didn't want to me to analyze myself in a way to prove to you how people differ and ages differ when it comes to how "adult-like" you are.
Trust me, I know adults in their mid 40's who don't seem to have quite "grown up" yet.
Anyway, I hope that my long answer hasn't bored you and has given you on perspective of my mindset (wow, I'm not even sure if that would make sense to you. It does to me, but my mind can be a jumbled mess on occasion).
Anyway, I really like this question. It made me really think. I like that. I've had a hard time with that lately and it felt good to actually hear a deep question and try and answer the question the way it was meant to be answered. Although I may not have done what I think and hope that I did. Again, I'm probably confusing you so I'll just shut up now. =D

Hey. I know you guys hate these questions, I'm so sorry.
So, me and my boyfriend had sex Friday without a condom. Well, he pulled out, and it was a few seconds when he cummed. Well, I'm really worried I may be pregnant. What are the chances?
Please don't listen to the first answer. Sperm does not die immediately when it hits the air. There is always a possibility of pregnancy when having sex. Have you ever heard of pre-cum? Even that little bit of sperm could get you pregnant. If you worry about being pregnant and stress out it could delay your period. Try and keep your mind off of it and wait about 3 weeks then take a pregnancy test. Even if you get your period within the next week or so it's still possible to be pregnant. A friend of mind had blood in her discharge and went to the doctor about it. When the doctor told her they were going to test her to see if she was 6 months pregnant she told the doctor she couldn't be because she had her period about 3 weeks after having sex. The doctor told her that didn't matter, pregnancy was still possible, even if she had her period.
Let the be a lesson to you. USE PROTECTION. Don't have sex unless you're prepared for the responsibilities that may come from it.
Okay, so does anyone know name of the poem below:
"Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. A deaf police men heard the noise and came to see the two dead boys."
I'm not sure about the last line. And I don't really know the rest of the poem, but I know it goes on. Does any one know the name? Or at least the rest of the poem?
I was originally just going to type in the version I had heard, but then I googled the poem and found an amazing website all about the poem.

I need songs about losing something, and realizing after it's gone that you miss it/want it back. Basically songs about regretting taking someone for granted, but it's too late! Thank you!
These are just some I'm thinking of off of the top of my head. I'm not sure if they will all be exactly what you're looking for, but I'm trying.
Here Without You - 3 Doors Down
What Hurts The Most - Rascal Flatts is a really good one
Tonight I Wanna Cry - Keith Urban
Hurt - Christina Aguilera (another good one)
Kelly Clarkson - I Hate Myself For Losing You
Those are all I can think of right now. I hope they're what you're looking for.
Well one time I was wokring on my project so hard that I skipped lunch. The day after, I wasn't even hungry at lunch time anymore and no matter how hard I try to eat, my tummy won't let me.
I just don't feel hungry anymore, i feel so full all the time and now it takes me an hour to eat my dinner.
Something wrong?
lbwhite89 is sooo right with her answer. How do I know? I was anorexic so I know what it means to be it.
I currently have kind of been the same way as you. The whole not very bungry, barely eating, taking forever to eat a meal type of thing. I'm also currently sick though. Not sick to my stomach, but still, I'm sick. I'm actually going to the doctor later today. It's a good question I could bring up when I'm there.
Anyway, you're not anorexic, that's a definite. What you're feeling is something felt when someone who is anorexic has been so for a while.
Anyway, it could be an illness coming on (ya know, like you may be getting sick). Or you may just not be hungry.
If you continuously just can't eat, aren't ever hungry, etc. SEE A DOCTOR. It's always better to be safe. There could be something wrong. But if you find your appetite starting to return - good.
If you find yourself in a loopy pattern, i.e losing your appetite, gaining it back, losing it again, gaining it back again, etc. then see a doctor for that too. .
Something may be wrong, but anorexia isn't it.
Like both lbwhite89 and I have said, see a doctor if your appetite doesn't come back soon. Also, continue trying to eat at least breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even if you eat smaller portions, eat something. Plus, drink a lot of water during the day. I'm having a problem with that right now where I'm never thirsty and becoming dehydrated, it's also why I'm sick. I don't want you to feel as crappy as I do now, so try and eat 3 meals a day (even if their small) and drink as much water and/or milk as you can each day.
My email for my myspace is hev7777777@advicenators.com and they sent my password to advicenators but I dont know how to find where they sent it so that I can sign onto my myspace! Please help me I need to talk to my sister that I havent talked to for ever now and need to find out how I am going to go to Indiana for summer but need to find where they sent my password to on here!!!!!!!
Advicenators doens't have any e-mail. The inbox that you see under the welcome is where people on the site can ask you questions. You'll have to use your own personal e-mail for myspace. If you don't have an e-mail account you can get a free one through yahoo. Just go to www.yahoo.com and there should be a link where you can create an e-mail address.
i just signed up for my circle for alltel. i know the calls to those numbers are free, but what about the texts? i've seen on commercials where they've said its free as well as the calls, but on the website i can't find that anywhere. does anyone know if the texts are free or not, for sure?
I just switched to alltel from cingular. The lady I had spoken with at the alltel store was telling me about mycircle (although I already knew) and I asked her about text messaging. She said that text messaging is not included with my circle. She had also let me choose between my nights starting at 7 rather than 9 or 1000 text messages a month. I chose the 1000 texts so my nights don't start until 9, but it's a good deal. It would be hard to go over that. I'm also sharing a plan with my sister so we have to split the my circle and the 1000 text messages. But it's still 5 people each and 500 texts each.
Anyway, to sum up the answer to your question - no, text messages are not included. At least that's what I was told by the woman who gave me my phone. I suppose it's a possibility that it's different with your plan, but I'm not sure about that.
i cant stand it anymore. i want it to be over and i dont feel like waiting for it to 'get better'. i just dont want to feel teh pain anymore and im going to end it. im so sick of nobody listening to me and telling me im stupid and not to 'talk that way'. i just need someone to lsiten. i need someone to ehlp me.
Wow, I know the feeling and that it's a pretty crappy one. I've been down the roads of feeling self-hatred and feeling as if nobody is hearing you when you try and tell them something is wrong. If you need someone to talk to then I'm here to listen. Just drop a message in my inbox about what is going on and why you think that you feel the way you do. There is always a choice other than the one it seems like you are willing to make. Just think, no matter what you may think there is ALWAYS at least one person who cares for you. There is always at least one person who does not want anything to happen to you and that would be crushed if something did. No matter how many people may make fun of you, wish you dead, claim to hate you, no matter if you don't recognize that there is someone in your life who cares, THERE IS!
So please, if you need to talk, message me. Don't let all of these crappy feelings build up inside of you. If you let the bad feelings bottle up then one day you may just snap and do something extremely regrettable. Don't make a wrong decision based on upsetting feelings. Talk to someone, anyone. If I am the only person you feel you can talk to, come to me. Don't ever hate yourself. Nobody wants to like someone who doesn't even like themself. Learn to love yourself (not in a conceited way, but in an accepting way) and soon others will come to realize the type of person you are. Try to accept yourself for your weaknesses and good qualities. Once you can accepts all the good and bad in your life things will start to turn around and get better.
Don't do anything too out there. If you really need someone to talk to then come to me. If you truly believe you have nobody else you feel 100% comfortable with, I'm here.
i currently have a camera phone and if i get a new camera phone is there any way to still keep my pictures?
i know you can keep your contacts because you can save them on your SIM card, but is there any way to keep your pictures too?
thanks!!
I just transfered from cingular to alltel and asked the woman there if there was any way to do that. She said the only way you can transfer pictures from phone to phone is by buying some type of cord that hooks up to your computer. You transfer all of your pictures to your computer. Then what you do is when you get your new phone you hook it up to the cord and transfer all the pictures back to your phone.
She said either that (if you already have the cord or if you don't have a huge amount of pictures) or you can just text the pictures to your new phone. I texted all the pictures I wanted to save but my new phone will only save them as texts and won't put them under my pics which kind of sucks. I guess it also depends on the phone you're getting.
You're best off asking the person who your getting your new phone from (it'll probably be a lot easier if you're getting a different phone from the same company (alltel to alltel, sprint to sprint type of thing).
on my advicenators, it said a few days ago that
i was rated 99 times, and how it says 86! how is this
possible?! & no, 13 people didn't delete their ratings.
You're right 13 people didn't delete their ratings, but if you read the FAQ then you would know that at the end of 30 days the rating disappears and no longer counts.
Here's a more direct link that talks about somewhat of what you're referring to.
Here's a link in the FAQ that deals with the differend sub-genres of ratings

hey i just wanted to tell you that your 101 ways to deal with stress thing was very very helpful. Actually, after reading those points, i realised that i needed to change myslef into a better person because i had been acting like a bitch to my mother, sister and friends because of stress. Ever since i read the rules (about a week ago) i definelty started to calm down and really be a better person. I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting that and i was so lucky for seeing it! This has really helped me now and will help when i go to high school next year especially. Thank you!
AWw, thanks. Well I'm really glad I was able to help. I actually got that list when I was a freshman. I was taking some kind of parenting/child development class and our teacher handed it out to us.
Anyway, I'm really glad I was able to help you and that you want to become a better person. That's awesome. If you need help, just post something in my inbox.
13/f
One day, I was coming home from school, and told me that I'm getting older, and she'll let me have sex(protected) next year when I turn 15.
I'm scared, I have a great b/f, but i don't like him that way!!!
what do i do???
I'm assuming by "and told me that I'm getting older..." that you're referring you your mother of another female gaurdian?
You ask what you do when you are allowed to have sex but don't like your boyfriend that way? Simple answer - Don't do it.
If you're only 13 then you shouldn't really be having sex anyway. Sex is for two people who truly love each other. You just said here hat you aren't into your boyfriend that way, at least not now. If you don't truly love someone, don't lead them on by having sex with them. Also don't have sex with them just because they want it or you think you have to. Unless you're 100% ready to sleep with someone, don't.
It's as simple as that. If you are unsure in any way when it comes to sex, the answer should be no. If you have to think about it for more than just the inital reaction to the random question then you are NOT ready.
what are the some songs that are like
*you and me - lifehouse
*stickwitu - PCD
??
as in cute love songs???
Okay, well I'm not really sure if you want specific genres. I think you may because you picked two songs of the same genre, but I'm going to give you a variety just in case. I have a subsection of my itunes that's all love songs (in one way or another). I'm going to type out all the ones that I personally think are cute. I hope that this will help you.

I'm failing my Algebra 2 class!
I do my homework everynight. I pay attention in class. I take notes. I ask questions. But I do TERRIBLE on tests. I got a 65 on one and a 48 on another!
What should i do?
You didn't mention whether or not you have spoken with your teacher on the matter. If not, do so ASAP. I'm not sure if it's close to the end of the year for you, but I have less than a month in school. If it's the same for you than you can't afford to wait.
There are other reasons rather than not understanding the material. Do you understand the material after paying attention, taking notes, and asking questions? If you understand it an do bad on the tests there are actually quite a few possibilities.
Do you get stressed or nervous when it comes to test taking? A lot of people do and that's something you should mention to your teacher. He or she should be good about it and able to come up with another solution.
If it's not that than I'm not sure. Either way you're best of speaking with your teacher. I'm great at algebra and plan on becoming a math teacher. So not only am I telling you what I would do, but also what I would want my student to do in the future if need be.

You are stuck in a room with no windows or doors. a solid room. Only things in this room is a mirror and a table. how do you escape?
There are 2 possible solutions. I saw both of them online.
Go to the mirror, look in the mirror, you see what you saw, take the saw, cut the table in half, 2 halves make a whole (hole) and escape through the hole.
Or...
Why would you need to escape in a room you're not in. Although it says "you're stuck in a room..." it also says that the ONLY things in the room are a mirror and a table.
The 1st choice doesn't make sense, but it's not supposed to. The second possibility is mixed up with both parts of the question.
It's not one of those riddles that has a true solution, just kind of a "funny" solution.
you know when children are younger, they're parents hit them, spank them, and use like belts and other objects to set them straight. well how long are they allowed to do that for? when a child turns "what age" is that illegal? thanks
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=is+spanking+child+abuse%3F
The second website said "it's dangerous to spank children over 6."
As far as I know there is no law against spanking. I personally think that there should be no more than a swat on the butt. I don't think belts and (as my mother used to threaten) wooden spoons, etc.
When using objects I consider it abuse. Then again, parents who abuse their children also use their hands, so the objects=abuse thing doesn't always work out.
If the parent is seriously beating the crap out of their child then it's abuse. But if it's one of those "NO!", swat on the butt circumstances then it's not that bad.
I learned in my parenting class how ineffective spanking is. It teaches kids that hitting to get a point across is okay. It's hypocritcal how parents tell their children not to fight, not to hit, to use their words rather than their hands. When in fact, parents spank.
Spanking, I think, is a personal preferance. As far as I know there are no laws against it. There are probably some kind of "rules" to follow when it comes to spanking. As one of those sites said, spanking is illegal in countries such as Sweden. I suppose it all depends where you live. I think there are even some states in the US that consider spanking child abuse.
There's a thin line between Child abuse and spanking and it's usually best to not even approach it. There are so many more methods you can use rather than spanking. If your a parent and want to know some effective alternatives, please let me know. I can give you a bunch of alternatives to spanking. It would be even simpilar if you came up with situation in which all you can think to do is spank.
Some people think hammurabi's (sp?) code is the only effective method of discipline. It's not. Yes, it works in some instances, but definitly not in them all. (By the way, H's code is the "eye for an eye" type of discipline method, ya know, if you steal something you lose your arm.) They were pretty violent back in those days. It probably worked, although it was severe haha.
Do you actually blow the guys penis when you give a blowjob? Or do you just put your mouth on it?
I'll answer this in the simplest and possibly weirdest way possible.
Pretend it's a lollypop or popsicle. Suck it. =D haha. That soudns weird, but it's pretty much what you do. And I know it's a personal preference and everything, but my opinion on the spit/swallow factor is to have the guy let you know if he's about to come so he can do it into toilet paper or a tissue or something. Most likely you'll gag the first time he cums in your mouth and that'll hurt his ego. Some guys like you to swallow, but I don't think I could ever do that, it'd gross me out too much. It's your choice though.
Seriously though, think of it as a popsicle, just don't dig your teeth into it or anything, that probably doesn't feel too grate haha. Remember how sensitive guys can be in that area haha.

I am taking the SAT for the 2nd time on May 5th and I need some advice.
i got a 1000 on the verbal and math part together out of 1600 which really dissapointed me because my gpa in school is a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale and i take a few advanced courses.
I know I know most of the material if not all of it i just get really flustered when it comes to test taking and i need some advice on how to improve my score (like my mom said once you answered all you know mark a common letter like C on everyone you don't know because chances are you will gain more points then you will miss)
I know they go over that kind of stuff in SAT prep courses but with my busy schedule i missed out on taking one of them and I also had that SAT handbook but I don't even have time to glance through it.
I want to go to a good school but most require a min of 1250, and I know I have the potential to get that kind of score I just need to know basically "how" to take the test.
thank you!
Umm, I'm a little confused, when was the last time you took your SAT? I took mine back in February and the scale had already been changed to 2400. So I'm either guessing that you live elsewhere and they have yet to convert the scale (which I'm confused by) or that you hadn't taken it since last year.
Anyway, if you can't eliminate at LEAST one choice, DON'T answer!! Make sure you can eliminate at LEAST one answer choice before answering. If not, don't answer otherwise you will most likely get it wrong. Now if you can eliminate at least one answer and still don't know, take a guess, your chances will be better. From then on, everytime you guess, guess that letter (unless you're able to eliminate it, then guess another). A is usually not right (if you know, or are pretty sure it's A, go ahead and choose A, but if you've cancelled out 2 options and still have 3 left (or something along those lines) choose a different letter. When A is wrong, it's usually close to something that's right, just so they can throw you off. Also, if 4 answers are all similar and one answer is just kind of out there, normally that answer is wrong. Once in a while it's correct, but it's more wrong than right. So unless you're pretty sure it's the right answer, don't choose the "out there" choice. I learned everything I'm telling you in my SAT prep class, and I make a 1710 on my SAT. My good friend who's just as smart as you are (straight A's and advanced courses) also took this class with me and received a 1930ish on it. Somewhere in the mid 1900's anyway.
Go to SAT prep websites and have them e-mail you the question of the day, that should help prepare you. Also broaden your vocabulary. In SAT prep, the math section is really the only part that improved me majorly. I was able to relearn things I didn't really understand the first time. The english part of my prep course just helped broaden vocabulary and get you used to the types of questions; I wasn't really able to relearn material.
Make sure you eat a good breakfast and get enough sleep because the SAT is always much too early in the morning and you're almost always too tired.
When working on your essay, concentrate best you can and KEEP ON TOPIC! Don't rush, but don't take too much time; after all, you do want to finish it =D.
Last, but not least, don't worry about it. The more nervous you get, the tougher it will be to succeed. Just keep your cool, do your best, and remember that if you don't do well this time, you can take it again. I don't suggest purposely not caring, do try your best, but don't freak out if things get tough. Also, if you're stuck on a question, skip it and come back. Soemtimes you find that some of the easiest questions are at the end and you could have gained more points if you would have skipped the hard one and answered the easy ones, even if you didn't have time to go back. Read all of the questions carefully because sometimes the answer you're looking for ends up being mentioned in a later (or previous) question. When you have to read the passage and answer questions READ the passage first. It seems like it would be longer, but in reality as long as you pay as much attention as possible to it (because I know how boring it is) it will be easier to answer the questions quickly. It'll be easier to find the answers you're unsure of too.
This is all I can think of for now. If you're still feeling nervous then feel free to drop me a question to the inbox. I've only taken it once and I don't plan on taking it again until right before my senior year, but I'm sure I can be of some help.

Hey guys, do any of you have any ideas for good persuasive speech topics...the speech that im suppose to do should last for like 3 to 5 mins.
Topics you could use (be careful, some can be very risky to talk about):
Gay Marriage
Abortion
Child Abuse
Domestic Violence/Abuse
Smoking (being wrong) (or being okay)
Drinking (being wrong) (or being okay, but don't get into underage drinking being okay)
You could talk about why people should be involved in charities, actually, that would be a really good one. It may actually convince people to help out, and people could really use the help. If you were to do that one it would be really simple to find out why people should get involved with their community.
