Question Posted Thursday May 3 2007, 4:36 pm

I'm failing my Algebra 2 class!

I do my homework everynight. I pay attention in class. I take notes. I ask questions. But I do TERRIBLE on tests. I got a 65 on one and a 48 on another!

What should i do?

THATS THE EXACT SAME WITH ME! ok here is my advise, go to your teacher and tell him/her exactly what you told Advisenators. He will understand, and teachers do want you to do well, so he/she will probably do there best to help you. suggest retaking tests, coming in after school or during lunch. if you show him/her that you are doing your best to make an effort in this class, he/she will do there best to help you back. I hope i helped!!! good luck!

You didn't mention whether or not you have spoken with your teacher on the matter. If not, do so ASAP. I'm not sure if it's close to the end of the year for you, but I have less than a month in school. If it's the same for you than you can't afford to wait.

There are other reasons rather than not understanding the material. Do you understand the material after paying attention, taking notes, and asking questions? If you understand it an do bad on the tests there are actually quite a few possibilities.

Do you get stressed or nervous when it comes to test taking? A lot of people do and that's something you should mention to your teacher. He or she should be good about it and able to come up with another solution.

If it's not that than I'm not sure. Either way you're best of speaking with your teacher. I'm great at algebra and plan on becoming a math teacher. So not only am I telling you what I would do, but also what I would want my student to do in the future if need be.

Hey, I'm bad at algebra too :3
Anyways, I think Sylvan learning center might help you. It helps any age group. From ranges first grade to 12th grade. Maybe it's your teacher. My algebra teacher IS AWFUL. Every quiz we've ever taken came out a failing grade. And the worst part is- EVERYONE FAILS THE TESTS! He gives us the grades he wants, not by how many we get wrong. And the highest grade we can get in his class is 94. 11 parents have complained because everytime we take a quiz the least amount we all had to retake it was 6 times and he thinks we're the problem! Maybe you're in the same situation. There's a difference between knowing how to do math and knowing how to teach it.It even got so bad with this guy that so amny people failed that he actually gave us all the answers for the quiz and said we'd never get lower than a 70 so people wouldn't complain. But I still got a 50 even though he gave us the answers, we had to match them up. I'm getting tutored this summer too. --- anyways that's off topic.
So anyway, spend an extra 15 minutes every other night on the concept, maybe? That could help. Don't spend more than 15 minutes a night on the homework. If it takes you more time you'll get too upset and frustrated then get even worse. Instead, to the homework to another subject or have a little break and THEN go back to the math homework. Like for example on the test I took today --- I got 4/25 correct. Maybe it's just me and I'm just bad at math but I think it could be my teacher, and in your case maybe your teacher. Sorry I'm getting off topic again.
Well anyways,
Hope I Helped!
