Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. where can I find plastic bowls, plates, cups etc. that are microwave safe? I am looking for a nice set to take to college with me and i cannot find them anywhere online

Target has some really nice plastic dinnerware and such. I'm not 100% sure about the costs, but usually they're pretty decent.

Also, if you can find a local warehouse that sells silverware and such to restaurants, they will have all of that stuff for uuber cheap.

I'm sure if you google restaurant warehouses (or restaurant suppliars) or something along those lines then you can find some good stuff.
Otherwise, I'd go to Target.

im 14.and ive been with my boyfriend for about a year&& 4 months.when we have sex he just pulls out.we havent been using protection for about 7months.i really dont like the sex with condoms.should i start using protection.do you think its safe?

Of course it isn't safe not to use protection. Pulling out doesn't matter. You can get pregnant just as easily with him pulling out as you can with him not. Pre-Cum can get you pregnant just as easily as regular ejaculation. Besides, pulling out doesn't protect you from any STDs which may not be a problem now with him (though, you can't know if you haven't had both of yourselves checked yet), but STDs will be a problem in the future with future partners.

You are 14 years old. The last thing you want to do is go home and tell your mother that you're pregnant or have a doctor tell you that you have genital herpes (or any of the other MANY STDs out there).

Be careful. I know schools are only aloud to teach abstinence and can't properly teach sex-education, but you have to find your information before going through with sexual acts.

If you aren't careful, you will regret the decision later.

So, to answer your question, NO I do not think what you are doing is safe. It's plain stupid. The least you can do is go on the pill or something. Your doctor isn't allowed to tell your mother if you're sexually active. If you go on birth control you can always tell your parents that it's because of your period (I don't like lying, but if it will assist you in preventing pregnancy, it's worth it), but that still won't help protect you against STDs. As of right now, condoms are the only way to protect yourself against STDs and that's only if they're used properly, and they only have a 98% (or somewhere around there) working rate.

hey so im turning 15 soon so in alot of states that means you get your permit. i was wondering if you could get your permit in like nc then get your license in missouri (im moving next year)

As long as you are going to be 16 when you plan on getting your license. I say that because, with a permit, you can only drive in your state [usually] and that's because in states such as NC you only have to be 15 to drive, but in states such as NY, you have to be 16. The beauty of that is, in states such as NY, you don't have to wait an entire year after getting your permit to get your license. Also, in states such as NY, you don't have to take drivers education first.

I don't know much about Missouri because I've never lived there [I use NC & NY as my examples because I do/have lived in both states]

Anyway, it depends on Missouri laws. More than likely, you should be okay to get your license there.

how do you know what your code is on bluetooth for your cell phone when you're trying to add device?

Normally, your cell phone provider will let you know.
I think mine was something simple like 0000 or 1111 until they had me change it [if I even did...]

I am with alltel (whom I absolutely HATE!), anyway... when I received my bluetooth, they set it up for me right there in the store.

Talk to your cell phone provider, go into the actual store and have them help you right there.

soo..i have been deciding on whether to attend WCU or UNCC..i need some advice on these colleges..and which would you guys choose? please help!

You're talking about West Carolina & Charlotte, right?
I applied to both and equally accepted as a freshman for fall of '08. Personally, I didn't choose either of them.

If I hadn't been accepted to the college I am going to this fall, I would have chosen Charlotte.

A lot of my friends go there now, and a bunch of my friends who are in my graduating class will be attending UNCC this fall. A lot of kids around here go there [I live minutes away from the campus]. It's a very popular school where I live.
Then again, my sister went there for a semester, hated it, and left. She hasn't ever really been that into school. Don't get me wrong, she made good grades and everything, she just wasn't that into it. Most people I know love it there.

Personally, I would have chosen Charlotte over the two (and did... I enrolled before hearing about getting into my top choice - I actually never told them that I no longer plan on going there).

In all honesty, I think the only reason I considered Charlotte was to live at home & save money, to be with my friends, and to be in a familiar setting.
Now I'm going to college about 2 hours away, a setting I haven't been used to since I lived up north [cold, mountainous, beautiful, small town, etc.]

It's really up to you, though. Have you visited the campuses? Have you looked online at what they have to offer, which are good for your intended major, which place you're going to be more comfortable at?
College is all about you! Don't let others pressure your decision. Go to the place that suits you. After all, you won't have mommy and daddy holding your hands for that journey. College is where we get to be on our own and explore life, but where we can go back home and still have time to be kids. It's when we're first on our own. Don't do something you don't want to. College is your home for the next 4 years (or whenever you go)... be some place that you want to. You want to be comfortable while you're there. You want to like where you're living and where you're calling home.

Ultimately, the choice is up to you.

I'm a senior in high school, I'll be 18 next month, I'm currently a virgin but I plan on going on birth control pills before I leave for college (sometime over the summer) just to be safe.. but I just realized that I'm scheduled to get my period the day of my senior prom and have it the whole weekend of after prom.. but luckily my friend has an extra month's worth of her birth control pills and offered to give it to me to take so that my period would come after my prom weekend. I read the directions and information that came with the pills but my only concern is if this is really dangerous to do becuase I havent been examined and I'm not telling my parents about it. I plan on stopping the pill after this one month and hopefully starting again when I go for my yearly check up later in June. Any advice is appreciated..

I would advise you AGAINST doing this. It could be really dangerous. A lot of people are very different in the birth control that they use and it's much better to get examined ahead of time. I understand that you don't want to be on your period prom weekend because wow, that would seriously suck, but I don't think it's worth the consequences to take someone elses prescription medicine (because that's basically what birth control is)

In the end, the decision is obviously up to you. Just know that something could go wrong. Also, as much as I don't think you should do this, what harm is there in calling your doctor and asking him/her? Also, if you have some time before prom, schedule an appt. for yourself to get started on birth control.
Doctor patient confidentiality means the doctor can't tell your mom if you're sexually active. When I had to get my last physical, the doctor told my mom to leave the room so she could ask me some questions... it was obvious what they were, but my mom couldn't be around to hear the answer (obviously so I wouldn't lie).

You can tell your mom you don't feel well and ask her to make you an appointment. Since you're 17, I'll assume you drive (even though I'm 17 and don't have a car yet), so I'll assume you can take yourself to your own appointments.
If I'm wrong, then maybe your mom or whomever at least won't go in the room with you during the appointment. Then you can tell the doctor the truth about why you're there.
I'm not usually for lying about something like that, but I'd rather you lie to your mom so you can get birth control from your doctor after being examined by him/her rather than you using your friends medicine that could cause more harm than good.

You've probably "popped your cherry" long ago if you've already had sex.
Honestly, I couldn't tell you what's wrong. Maybe this time it was too rough.
Is it heavy bleeding or just light spotting? Did you consider whether or not it's your period?

If you're worried, call up the doctors and ask them if they think it's okay or if you need to see a gyno. [Or, if you look at my favorite columnists, check out younggrandma, she would be better help).

I've never had any weird bleeding from my hymen breaking (not that I recall, anyway), so I don't think I'm much help to you right now.

i've had bulimia pretty sure for almost 2 years and i've been thinking how my life would be so much better if i didn't do this. I binge and purge and i'm so stupid because i worry about gaining weight then i do that? it's dumb i know but i can't control it. like i ate today then i felt all anxious and didn't feel better until i threw up. i feel ashamed and guilty
i guess i'm not overweight i'm about 5'6", 125 pounds. i want to lose weight and i know this isn't the way but i can't bring myself to actually say it. i'm worried if i stop i'll gain weight. i don't know what to do.

who and how should i tell someone?

As someone who has first hand experience with an ED (I was anorexic), I know how difficult it is for you to speak out, so good job for doing so.

As for people to tell: friends, family, parents, teachers, school counselors (as with teachers, they're required to say something).
If you don't think you can come out and say it, then write a letter and give it to someone.

Sometimes, writing it down and presenting it can be a lot easier than actually speaking the words.

Whatever you do, speak up soon. The longer you go on with the disorder, the harder it will be to get help and be helped.

ok so after prom, everyone is going to my friends boyfriend's house for the after party. theres gonna be lots of people there but overall its just a typical house party. so im going for sure and im sleeping over there along with everyone else so i want to be comfortable but still look really cute. like i really dont want to stay in my dress because its pretty big and too fancy and uncomfortable but what do people usually wear to after parties? some people say jeans and a tshirt. other people say just their pjs. i was also told a skirt and a cute top are fine but then again i was also told just wear a less fancy dress thats still cute. what do ppl typically wear??

Most of my friends just wear jeans, capris, shorts, short jean-skirts... we like to keep it casual and comfortable.
Personally, I wouldn't go with the less fancy dress. I also wouldn't go with the skirt. After prom I like to just dress down. Maybe that's because I'm really apathetic and like to be lazy and comfortable... dressing up isn't my thing, so when I do dress up, afterwords I get super lazy.

It really depends on the party, though. If it's just going to be music, movies, socializing, etc. then you'll be fine in pjs. If there's going to be any illegal activities (which I strongly urge you against... I've lost too many friends from drinking, drugs, irresponsible driving, etc. and know that kind of pain) then I suggest staying in the jeans, capris, shorts, etc. range.

You may want to at least bring some PJs though, especially if you're sleeping over. Unless you think it's comfortable to sleep in your clothes.

Cutting yourself isn't the answer. As a somewhat recovered SIer, I feel that it's my duty to stop anyone from doing something so dangerous.

Cutting is a way for us to control our own pain, but don't you think it would be better if we just got rid of the pain all together?

Work on stopping, not on finding a simple way to commit the act.

Tell a friend, parent, teacher, counselor, etc. Tell anyone who you trust and are comfortable talking with. Someone will be able to get you help.

I'm going to answer your question with an online answer, but first I'd like you to hear me out.

As a somewhat recovered SIer, an online source isn't going to work. There's too much enjoyment in self injury and, just as any substance, it's an addiction that's difficult to break.
I strongly urge you to get help from someone. It is a lot easier to have someone to turn to. You could relapse, need a shoulder to cry on, a person to hug, etc. A computer isn't going to do that for you.

Did you have a date whenever you went to prom? Were there a lot of people without dates? How does the dancing part go..? :)

I didn't have a date, I went with a group of friends and am doing the same this year (our prom is April 12th).

There are quite a few people who go without dates. The only people who really go with dates are either boyfriend/girlfriend with whomever they go with, or it's just someone who's going as a date for someone else just to get them in.

If you've ever been to just a regular school dance, it's basically the same - dancing wise, anyway.

The only parts that aren't fun about not having a date are the slow songs. They don't play too many, though. They also have a few "dance" songs such as the Cha-Cha Slide and the Electric Slide.

We dance as a group of friends and sometimes, for our own lame fun, we'll dance together during slow songs.
Also, if you know any guys that are there without dates, you can get them to slow dance with you.

There a few tables and stuff set up though, so if you want to just sit down then you'll be fine.

I'm guessing you're talking about a product such as Nair or Veet, etc.

Those are NOT good to use on the vaginal area. It could really irritate that area.

Unless the product states specifically that you can use it in that area, then I would NOT use it.

Shaving that area isn't too difficult as long as it's moist enough (soap and/or cream) and you're just careful.

If you use bladeless shaving then it could really irritate, burn, itch, etc.
