I have a 5 year old male miniature dacshound. His problem is that he pees inside the house on the carpets when we want him to go pee outside. He is potty trained but still goes to the carpets like he does not care. We smack his bottom whenever he does and sometimes spray a dog and cat sour spray in his mouth to basically tell him "no" but nothing seems to get through his head. If I don't get to controlling his actions soon my parents are seriously considering sending him to the pound. What should I do?

I've been using a floppy disk for about 2 years now. All of a sudden a few weeks ago, when I tried to open it an error meesage came up and said "The disk in drive A is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" I was told formatting would erase everything on the disk, so I didn't do that. Does anyone know of any way to fix the disk, or can I go someplace to have the info taken out of the disk, or buy a product that'll fix the disk. Thanks you so much... this is very important to me. First things first:
It is possible that the floppy drive in your computer has gone bad. They are not very expensive if that is the case.
The best way to find out: Try reading the floppy disk in another computer. If it reads in another machine, then have the floppy drive in your computer replaced. (You could try cleaning it with a floppy drive cleaning kit.)
If the disk doesn't read in a different machine, then you need to decide what the data on the disk is worth. If you made the mistake of storing some priceless piece of info on a 10 cent disk without a backup, then you may want to send the disk to a professional data recovery house. These are not cheap, but if it is POSSIBLE to get the data back, then they will for sure.
If it is not terribly important, you can try a disk repair utility on it. I would try Norton Disk Doctor if you have it.
If not, then how about this:
Open "My Computer"
Make sure you have the floppy in the drive.
RIGHT-click on the "3 1/2 Floppy A:" text.
Click on "Properties"
Click on the "Tools" tab.
The top choice is "Error-Checking"
Click "Check Now"
Check both of the check boxes: "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"
Click "Start"
Let me know how you do.

I guess what I am curious about is why you haven't gotten in touch with the renter's rights groups I gave you links to. Just because they are not in Utah does not mean they don't know someone who is, or are able to assist in some other way. Some federal statutes may also apply, which they may be able to point you to.
I am a computer repair guy, not a lawyer, not a rights advocate. I don't know what else to tell you. I have done 5 hours of legwork on your case, and you need to get the people in your park doing some of it too. You can't do it all yourself, nor is it right to get someone else (who doesn't live there) to do it for you.

My computer is having some issues with right clicking, and clicking links that create a new internet explorer window to open. When I right click on a link, all the options come up, but when I select "open a new window" nothing pops up, and the original window just freezes and then I get annoyed and close it. Even my msn is acting screwy, it tells me I have however many new emails, but when I click on it, nothing pops up.
I've run a virus scan, have a firewall, and ad aware, so none of that appears to be the issue. Any help? (link)

There is something running on your machine that is causing the windows shared DLLs to freak out. Specifically run32.
Let me suggest that you open task manager and close as many running processes as it will let you. If you stil have the same problem, I suggest you follow the steps on this page at microsoft for re-installing and/or repairing IE:

...If closing one of the running processes fixes the problem, figure out which one and upgrade/delete it if possible.

Hi, its me again with the question about the housing in southern Utah. The info. was Great but, just doesn't apply-We were told at the Five County Assoc. yesterday that " It's nothing that we have a say in it's called progress." For some of the Hadicapped here there may be some help out there, but all of my nieghbors need help.Is there anything else you've thought of & would it help us to put a personal lean on his property or can we even do that.There is NO rent control programs in Utah. I really don't know what else to tell you. I can't see where you could make a lien against the property unless he owes you something he hasn't paid, or he made an agreement he will not keep.
I am not a lawyer, so I can't give any advice in that direction.
Did you get in touch with each and every one of those groups I sent info about, as well as your television and newspapers in the area? If not, you are making a mistake. I guess I don't understand how renter's rights organizations can be something that "...just doesn't apply..." Can you help me understand this?

This guy has a theory which basically interests me basically for it's mathematical probabilities... He has added all the popes names to date like so:
John Paul I = 1
John Paul II = 2
Pious IX = 9
...etc...
Then added them all up:
1 + 2 + 9 ...etc... = 665
To date.
The only way that this guy's theory works is if the next pope uses a papal name that has never benn used before IN HISTORY. This is because only pope "whatever" the first would add "1" to the current number.
That would be 666.

i am VERY short, so whenever i buy jeans, i cut them to fit my length (instead of hemming them), cause i dont care about the little freys at the bottom. But yesterday i bought corduroy pants that are of course too long, if i cut them, would that ruin them? (link)

If it is within your power to hem them, I would advise it. Cords aren't denim and the way the fabric comes apart is not flattering at all. I had a jacket come apart after an accidental tear, once it starts you can't stop it, if I recall correctly. It was years ago, I was a kid and it was the 70s, when cords were in last time. ;-)

Hello there,
This sounds remarkably like a vacuum leak. If it is, your car is probably not much fun to troubleshoot for a vacuum leak. :-( All kinds of problems, including malfunctioning choke systems can be attributed to the vacuum system.
The only other thought is an intermittent connection to a throttle sensor switch if it has one.

I'm having trouble finding the answer to this problem. Maybe I don't ask it right, see if any of you can help me out.
I am thinking of buying a new camera. I currently have a pentax which I love but it has seen better days.
I'd like to try a digital one but here's the thing no one has yet been able to answer for me.
I do not like the point and shoot, auto focus stuff. I want a set your own f-stop, focus.... manual type camera. I like my pic's to be my own creations know what I mean? Does anyone know if they make something like that in digital cameras?
I think the problem lies in the fact that I don't really know what the official name for the kind of camera I'm wanting is. I'm in process of packing for a move and all my stuff is currently unavailable to me.So, if anyone knows at least that much it would be a help in my search.

If you want an equivelent type, do this search in google, with NO QUOTES:

That should get you started. From there, you will have to get into the camera magazines and see who likes what about which.

...I was just sitting here on my computer, and I get this dark feeling inside of me really randomly, and then I turn my head and I blink and while I blink the feeling gets even worse and I see something torn up when I close my eyes. (i dont know what it was but it made my brain feel like it was rattling) omfg its creeping me out..it makes me feel suicidal. It makes me want to rip my skin apart. It should be ok. Please remove the memory card and re-insert it.
If this fails, look for a "reset" button, which will restore all factory settings and may help.
In any case, it is the very least expensive camera that company makes, so you shouldn't be in too much trouble. Tell the truth either way.

First, I liked your answer to the 13 yo advisors question.I've added you to my short list of favorite columnists.
I have been doing this for not quite a month now.I have been answering questions mainly for the reasons you mentioned.
I stumbled across the site and was appalled by some of the advise being given.I think some use it for a way to be smart alecks...I know they do!
Some of the questions asked I know nothing about such as the current fashion trends etc.Those I just don't answer.
I do try to answer any question that I feel needs a more mature point of view. I have given advise to use condoms etc. to young people.I do in most cases try to advise to think about it first.My thinking is that if they are going to be doing these things anyway they better do it safe.I have seen kids being told to just go kill yourself, you are an idiot etc. and this bothers me a lot. They may ask questions that seem stupid at times to me but, they must be of importance to them or they wouldn't ask.And they do deserve a correct answer.Not one like "yea, you had sex and have a rash now you have a disease and are going to die". My god, with teen suicide being up an answer like that could send a kid with low self esteem over the edge!
I sometimes get very frustrated by it and wonder why I even started doing this.As a matter of fact
until that question came up I was contemplating just giving up doing it anymore.Mainly because there doesn't seem to be anybody to go to and just ask am I doing the right thing? Since it's against the rules to just write columnists without asking a question I'll give you that one.

The sloppy handling of abusers on the site is a sin. Someone tells someone to commit suicide, and they MIGHT get banned for 5 days.
I don't really know what to do about it. I plan to give it a little time and hope the admins will listen to me. If they don't I will be gone.

The advice below about him not being able to tell is totally wrong. I love the one about: "even doctors can't tell..." sheesh.
There's a piece of skin called a hymen. If you don't have one, you cannot prove you are a virgin. If you have sex, and do not tell him. He will know, and assume you lied to him.
Please tell him. You will get to find out how he is going to take it, and he will get the truth from the woman he loves.
Remember: There is no chance to ever tell him after the fact without most likely losing him. There is also a great deal of emotional baggage that that goes along with being sexually abused. You should let him know what he is letting himself in for. (Many things will not even come up until you have babies of your own. Things change.)
I'll be proud of you if you tell the truth.

Believe it or not, guys are afraid to ask you out. Generally, if you are a model type, most guys will assume:
1) You have a boyfriend.
2) You wouldn't be interested in them anyway, since model types tend to be vain(not saying this is you), and wouldn't want a nerd like them around their friends.
I guess the real question is: What do you look for in a guy? If you can answer that, then find one or more that match and research what they like to do. If your dream guy is into model rocketry, ask him to tell you all about it... You will be fine after that. Boy who is busy studying, because he assumes Girl wouldn't care if he died, suddenly finds out Girl is interested in something he knows about = happy couple.
Girls think they are the only ones with self esteem issues... You could not possibly be more incorrect about that. Give it a try.

hello, selectopaque here. You seem to be getting a bit of attention from your views on why this site is being over-run by 13 year old girls. I noticed your column because I approved your last question.
So, your hoping to stir a bit of activism on part of the young girls? That would be a lovely thing, but I don't see it happening. Apart from rainbowcherrie, I don't see much hope for any of the young girls on this site.
Perhaps in a couple of years they will begin to smarten up, but for now I see much laziness in them all. This view is coming from my months of sorting through questions such as "What does blow job mean?"
It's very discouraging. Most of the young people who come to this site, come to get the answer to an extremely simple question, that could better be answered somewhere else. The problem is that they are lazy. They see this site as an easy option to get any question answered. They don't care about making the site better, they only care about getting an easy answer.

Basically, the way I am planning on keeping my sanity is to avoid answering the questions that are easily answered elsewhere. To do so would take away from the little time I have to answer the REAL questions from people who really couldn't find their info after looking.
The best way to keep this in perspective: The end of the world is at hand. These people are about to have babies... With what parenting skills will they raise them?
These are the people that every business owner is depending on to fill job vacancies for the next 30 years. There is no way that this will work out well.
They aren't going to smarten up in the next couple years. Maybe in the next 5-10 years. Then they will have no marketable skills and no future. Rather than improving themselves of their own volition, they will say "I am depressed." the doctor will prescribe some happy pill or another, and they will become another of these brain-dead prozac junkies you see everywhere these days.
If the people who were teens in the 90's are pathetic as a whole, how much worse have things become?
