hello, selectopaque here. You seem to be getting a bit of attention from your views on why this site is being over-run by 13 year old girls. I noticed your column because I approved your last question.
So, your hoping to stir a bit of activism on part of the young girls? That would be a lovely thing, but I don't see it happening. Apart from rainbowcherrie, I don't see much hope for any of the young girls on this site.
Perhaps in a couple of years they will begin to smarten up, but for now I see much laziness in them all. This view is coming from my months of sorting through questions such as "What does blow job mean?"
It's very discouraging. Most of the young people who come to this site, come to get the answer to an extremely simple question, that could better be answered somewhere else. The problem is that they are lazy. They see this site as an easy option to get any question answered. They don't care about making the site better, they only care about getting an easy answer.
But, good luck with your crusade of getting the young people active.

As for stirring activism... I can't say that I am trying to stir, so much as I am trying to get them to THINK about why the situation is as it is. You have to consider, even the t-shirts wouldn't interest a boy. "...are waiting to answer your questions about Life and Love and Friendship..." Not the place you would go to find a way to keep your semmi-automatic paintball gun from jamming. :-(
You aren't kidding about the laziness factor. Some of these things can be answered via any good searh engine

"They don't care about making the site better..." Well you are certainly right about that. You are talking about the most selfish generation in the history of our country.
I used to wonder why people the world over hate Americans and think they are selfish... After being here for 3 days, I don't wonder anymore. :-(
Basically, the way I am planning on keeping my sanity is to avoid answering the questions that are easily answered elsewhere. To do so would take away from the little time I have to answer the REAL questions from people who really couldn't find their info after looking.
The best way to keep this in perspective: The end of the world is at hand. These people are about to have babies... With what parenting skills will they raise them?
These are the people that every business owner is depending on to fill job vacancies for the next 30 years. There is no way that this will work out well.
They aren't going to smarten up in the next couple years. Maybe in the next 5-10 years. Then they will have no marketable skills and no future. Rather than improving themselves of their own volition, they will say "I am depressed." the doctor will prescribe some happy pill or another, and they will become another of these brain-dead prozac junkies you see everywhere these days.
If the people who were teens in the 90's are pathetic as a whole, how much worse have things become?
