Heyy everyone!

This is Lauren. I asked a few questions a while back. The most recent(besides this one) was about books. I didnt exactly get as many reponses as I was looking for. I took some of the advice. I took Shattering Glass, Cut, and A Child Called It from the library and read them. Does anyone know any other good books that deal with relashionships, dealing with abuse or rape, or any other REALLY dramatic books? I also LOVE a good mystery!

One of my favorite books of all time is "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux. The story is about Erik, a mysterious, dangerous and ruined genius (to be precise, a composer, engineer, magician, architect, ventriloquist and an expert with the Punjab Lasso) with a mutilated face who terrorizes the Paris Opera House, which he lives beneath while taking Christine Daee, the beautiful soprano whom he loves under his wing and attepts to seduce her. Of course, since he's so ugly, he doesn't stand a chance with Raoul, the "charming" and handsome young viscount, Christine's old childhood boyfriend. Actually, he's a sappy twerp, but Christine doesn't see him like that. Immediately, the Phantom gets jealous, kidnaps her and makes her a prisoner of his home in the cellars of the Opera. It's a very dramatic novel, and you won't want to put it down. It's also very sad. You really feel for the Phantom because he has such a tragic story. I recommend that you read the abridged one though, because the original one has a lot of confusing French words and archaic language

Also, "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien is a great adventure story, while at the same time gives off a kind of cozy feel. It's a great book.

im doing a project and a need to find a roman invention...its a project so you know how it goes.

so anybody know any good/interesting/simple roman inventions?

There's this little thing that the Romans invented. I forgot what it's called, but it's some kind of "scope" that measures really tall things, like buildings and such. It's ridiculously easy to make. I did a project on it in the 6th grade. Here's how to make one:

All you need is a small toilet paper roll and a square of that clear plastic stuff used for overhead projectors (the Romans used glass, but Saran Wrap or anything transparent will substitute).

1. Tape the clear plastic stuff over one of the ends of the tube.

2. Go outside and find something really tall, like a lamp post. Look at the lamp post through the tube and step away from it. Keep stepping away from it so that the flagpole fits exactly in the tube.

3.Record how many feet away you were from the flagpole. Say that the distance was 360 inches.

4. Measure the height of one end of the tube, top to bottom. Say that was 3 inches.

5. Measure the length of the tube (the distance between one end of the tube to the other). Say that was 8 inches.

6. Last, write a proportion. It should look like this:


height

distance


3 in n
----- = --------
8 in 360 in

3 x 360 / 8 = 135 inches

135 inches / 12 inches = 11.25 feet

The lamp post is 11.25 feet.

I forgot what this instrument is called, but again, it ends in "---scope" and you can look it up on Google or at a library.

Okay I'm 13/f and I have liked this one guy scince last year. Me and my one friend talked to him about it. He said that I'm prude and weird to my friend and when I asked him about it he said that He loves me and never would say that. Then he asked if I could give him a hand Job. At first I said sure but I didn't really feel like doing it becuase I was neruves. After that he asked my friend if I would let him eat me out and let him finger me. Then my friend asked me if I would and I said I dunno and she told him IDK[I odn't know] and then he asked if I would give him head[blow job]. I wanna do this stuff to him. I think you're old enough to have a boyfriend, but not pair off and go out on an actual date. When your parents say that you're not old enough to date, it depends on what follows along the lines as "dating." Depending on what era they're from, they may have different ideas on what dating is than you do. Tell them what kind of stuff the two of you do together and that it's not like you're going to a romantic dinner or anything like that and they should agree.

It all started when I put on my away message “ YOUR DUCH A DUMB FUC* HAPPY ONE YEAR” and my ex-boyfriends girlfriend saw it. That away message was to my ex boyfriend lets call him *jack” jack and I went out for 7months and it was our one year anniversary 11.06.05 so that’s why I put an away message like that.


His girlfriend lets call her “Jane” she saw my away message and got really pissed and sent me an email on my space. It was saying that if I don’t get over jack that I’m going to get jumped pretty much so I thought we settled everything but I thought wrong. My friend lets call her “Jen” she rides the bus with me and she has been telling me that Jane is getting a petition going around and seeing who hates me. This is really true she’s not lying I over heard Jane talking about it.

Jane now has 40 people on the petition so 40 people so far hate me. How do I handle her? Should I fight her, leave it alone, talk to her, or make a petition of who hates Jane? But I think its immature she’s doing this so I don’t want to be immature. She’s 16 by the way and I’m 14.

Yuck! What a bitch. I think you should give her a mean look, look her straight in the eyes and say "If you don't fuck off and stop this petition right away, I'm going to tell the principal." And if she doesn't stop, do it. Get some friends to come along as witnesses and tell the principal about it. I know you probably don't want to do this, but this is only way that you can get Jane in trouble. There is almost nothing sweeter than watching your enemy get in trouble. But whatever you do, don't start a petition against Jane. It would be immature, you could get in trouble, and you would give yourself a bad reputation.

I'm using acne medication that I put on my face at night and wash off in the morning. Well, my acne is getting a little better but my skin is SUPER dry and flaky from it. It's gross!!! Well, if I use moisturizer, my skin just gets acne...so what do I do to keep my skin nice and fresh and soft but acne free?! (while still using the acne medication the dermatologist prescribed!)

Cetaphil is pretty good. It's a moisterizing pore cleaner, and it doesn't dry out your skin, but doesn't give you acne. You can get it at any drug store

Okay,so i have dark circles under my eye,and i think i'd be so mmuch prettier with out it.how much sleep should a 13 year old get a day? i'm trying to sleep on time,but you know how it is..=/.Besides any kind of make up to cover it (my school has bad lighting so you can see all cover up..it sucks =O)how can i get them away as fast as possible?Do YOU know any products that are to treat this? =),please,any tips are much appriciated.

Here are your answers:

1) A 13-year-old should get about 9 hours of sleep a day. If you want to achieve it, then you should go to bed at 9:30-10:00. If you have too much homework, ask your parents to write you a note, and finish it up the next day and turn it in late.

2) I'm not sure where dark circles come from. Some say it's just genetic, some say it comes from not sleeping enough, and I've even heard stuff about having blood problems...:/ But you can hide them if you buy cover-up, or some liquid foundation. Don't get the powder stuff...the area under your eyes are very dry and it will be totally noticeable. Some good brands are Ben Nye, and Maybelline Mousse.

Ok what do you when you like the same guy that your total BFF loves. She is absolutly in love with him. He knows, that I like him and that she likes him. But he does not like her. Actually, he hates her. But she doesn't know that I like him. PLease please help!!!!!

I think you should tell her that you like him as well. This will be a good excuse for if you ever go out with him, it won't seem like you're a jerk. Just wait for her to ask "who do you like?" But don't tell her that this boy hates her. Even if it's true, you will look like you have that you-get-your-paws-off-of-him attitude, which is really not right, considering the fact that she discussed her feelings about him first (regardless of whether she liked him first). Think about it: how would you feel if you were so totally in love with this guy, and your best friends tells you that he hates you? And don't try to act all possessive over him. Just because you like him doesn't mean he's yours. The last thing you want to do is get in a fight over this guy.

i need to know if a C is a bad grade?

It depends on what kind of student you are and the circumstance. If you got an F in Science and brought it up to a C the next quarter, that's pretty good. Then you can work to try to bring it up to a B, then an A. If you had an A in Science and it went down to a C, that's not very good. But generally, a C isn't a good grade. You don't have much of a chance of getting into a really good college if you got a C in your senior year. But then again, maybe you don't want to go to college...

There is this guy who's in a lot of my classes. He's nice, intelligent, athletic, hot....heh. Anyways, I like him and he sorta seems to like me but hey, I guess he could just be messing with my mind.

We used to flirt in our classes but this one time in Gym class I walked passed him and he's all,"Don't touch me," because he has curly hair and I pull on it as he walks by, and I responded with,"Why would I want to?" So now he doesn't flirt with me anymore. He looks at me and stuff like that, but it's not the same.

I don't want to ask him out, because I am too scared of him being all, "ew." I want a way to be discreet about showing him that I am interested, so he might get the message, but not too out there so he doesn't get disgusted. I DON'T want people telling me that I should just ask him out, because people who say that probably don't remember how scary it is/are more brave then I.

I think you're getting the wrong message. You were probably flirting with him, and you mistook his reaction to flirting back. Then you pull his hair, and he goes "Don't touch me." First off, curly-haired guys hate it when you pull their hair. From my analysis of your question, it sounds like his heart is saying no. If you want to ask him out and you're worried that he'll get disgusted, then you shouldn't ask him. It's pretty clear that he doesn't like you. Trust me, from personal experience, there's [almost] nothing more embarassing than having your crush be grossed out at you. It seems like you have only two options; give up on him, or hang out with him, get to know him some more, and hope that he'll eventually like you back. If you decide to choose #2, I highly recimmend that you wait on it for about two months or so, because right now it's completely fresh in his mind that you were flirting with him. After a while, the image will fade a little and he'll be able to overlook it.

This has been plauging me for about a year or so. I have really small breasts, and the area around my nipples balloon out. Why is this? Is there something wrong? It's really annoying. I wish it would go away. I just got my period a little while ago.

Skim milk (honestly, milk does NOT make you gain weight.)

Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal (made of almonds, corn flakes, wheat flakes and clusters of oats glued together with honey)
Chicken
Make chicken soup! Get a couple pounds of chicken bones (with some of the meat still on it) and boil it under low heat for several hours. Add some cilantro for vegetables.
Fish
Water
Pomegranate seeds
Apples
Bananas
grapes

Seasonings:

Olive oil
Sesame oil (give it a try! It adds a wonderful aroma and flavor to chicken broth)

SmartBalance Butter (this is like artificial butter. It has no trans fat, saturated fat or any other bad things that normal brings)

Have some vegetables on the side! Except for the Honey Bunches of Oats, no carbohydrates!

I have a question for all you people who bake. When I was baking cookies, the top parts came out fine, but the bottom was just really gooey. Did i do something wrong? And if i did, can you explain what i should do right? They were chocolate chip cookies by the way.

You didn't bake them long enough. Just leave it in there a little longer and they should be fine.
