This is Lauren. I asked a few questions a while back. The most recent(besides this one) was about books. I didnt exactly get as many reponses as I was looking for. I took some of the advice. I took Shattering Glass, Cut, and A Child Called It from the library and read them. Does anyone know any other good books that deal with relashionships, dealing with abuse or rape, or any other REALLY dramatic books? I also LOVE a good mystery!
Thanks a Ton!
Lauren =)

The story is about Erik, a mysterious, dangerous and ruined genius (to be precise, a composer, engineer, magician, architect, ventriloquist and an expert with the Punjab Lasso) with a mutilated face who terrorizes the Paris Opera House, which he lives beneath while taking Christine Daee, the beautiful soprano whom he loves under his wing and attepts to seduce her. Of course, since he's so ugly, he doesn't stand a chance with Raoul, the "charming" and handsome young viscount, Christine's old childhood boyfriend. Actually, he's a sappy twerp, but Christine doesn't see him like that. Immediately, the Phantom gets jealous, kidnaps her and makes her a prisoner of his home in the cellars of the Opera. It's a very dramatic novel, and you won't want to put it down. It's also very sad. You really feel for the Phantom because he has such a tragic story. I recommend that you read the abridged one though, because the original one has a lot of confusing French words and archaic language

~Go Ask Alice (very dramatic about a teen's desent into a world of drugs)
~Treacherous Love (a teen with a broken family, and her relationship with her teacher)
~You Don't Know Me (Kinda weird, but you find out about this boy who has all these problems, I can't remember much of it but it's really dramatic)
~Speak (Something happens to a girl at a party at the end of 8th grade... and now going into high school all her friends hate her. She finds out who she is and finds out how to get help.)
~Freak the Mighty (this one isn't very mysterious or dark, but it's hilarious!! about a boy with a diease and how his last days are actually fun because he meets a boy named Max and they become "knights" and have many adventures)
~It Happened to Nancy (A 14 yr old girl gets raped and is left to deal with having HIV)
~Eragon and Eldest (the first two books in a triology, great books if you like fantasy. It's got fighting, mystery and magic + a really intricate plot)
~Elsewhere (This book is really intresting, a teenage girl dies and it's about her afterlife and finding out that life is pretty much the same as your afterlife)
~Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (you may have watched the movie, but the books are even better. Follow 4 best friends and their relationships with their families, guys, and their lives. VEry Dramatic)
~The Perks of being a Wallflower (i don't know what it's about, but my friends have been raving about it)
~The Year of Secret Assignments (Oh wow, this is one of my all time favs. It's about a group of private school girls and their penpal program with guys from the "pothead" public school across town. There is romance, mystery, decpetion, and drama)
~All American Girl (a hilarious story about how an average misfit saves the president's life and gets thrust into the public eye. Also her budding romance with the first son [more about this in the sequel, Ready or Not])
~The Princess Diaries series (I love them. They are so much better, and more teen oriented than the movies. You probably know the plot. Average dorky girl becomes a princess, has to deal with all of that and her grandmother from heck. Plus she's falling in love with her best friend's brother)
Hope you enjoy some (or all) of these~ If you need or want more, I've always got a few titles under my sleeve!

Annerszz_101 answered Sunday November 27 2005, 7:00 pm: Gossip Girl series are good :] and the five people you meet in heaven is REALLY good. clueless series are okay too. the misfits is a really good book too.
S_C answered Sunday November 27 2005, 6:50 pm: ANYTHING Nicholas Sparks (he's one of my favorite authors) I especially LOVED The Rescue and Message in a Bottle. Of course everyone knows about The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, I personally LOVE The Notebook, but I would read The Rescue a hundred times.
Well you could read the sequal to a Child Called It. I liked the Lost Boy a lot, of course A Child Called It was much better- I wouldn't really bother readying A Man Named Dave. I mean it's great to know how he turned out, but in my opinion it just wasn't as interesting as the first two.
Oh and for some other options, there are these books I LOVE but I can't think of the name of them. Oh yeah, Among the Hidden. There are 4 in the mini series, I LOVED all of them, Among the Hidden is the first, I don't remember the names of the rest but I would assume it isn't a hard thing to figure out.
If you are interested in the holocaust then the book Night by Elie Wiesel (sp?) was a good book. Also David's Star I think it's called. If not it's something like that, I read it in the 6th grade and LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It also is about the holocaust (I really like books and stuff about the holocaust, my cousins grandparents were sent to concentration camps and it interests me)
The Last Promise by Richard Evans is a romantic book and I liked it a whole lot (then again I'm also Italian and it takes place in Italy)
I hope I gave you some good ideas.
The Among the Hidden series are some of my favorite books. Margeret something I think is the author, if not then her books are really good but I haven't read them since 8th grade so I couldn't give you much information. I'm pretty sure the word peterson is used in her name though haha. I'm in 10th grade now and my memory isn't doing much for me so I'm just going to stop typing now :) [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
