O.K., Im thinking about downloading AIM onto my computer, but Im afraid it will give me a virus. If I get a virus my parents will KILL me! Does anyone have it and can tell me whether its ever given you a virus or someone you know? Thanks! All my friends have it and they've never gotten viruses before, but I need to make sure. THANKS!
phil314 answered Sunday May 8 2005, 12:27 am: Your obvious inability to handle computers is worse than a virus. I think your parents should be more worried about that.
If AIM really gave you a virus, do you think millions of people would download and use it? Actually, bad example. Humans are stupid. But no, it doesn't contain any malware if this is what you're asking.
However you're probably better off without it. AIM will eat up your computer's resources AND decrease your IQ by a significant amount (this, you cannot afford), so I'd highly suggest not getting it. [ phil314's advice column | Ask phil314 A Question ]

evilgogeta answered Thursday May 5 2005, 5:36 pm: If you download aim from www.aim.com there's no way you'll get a virus from it. Viruses come from bad attatchments and dodgy websites, you won't get one if you download aim. [ evilgogeta's advice column | Ask evilgogeta A Question ]
Sw33t_Dr33ms_xOx answered Thursday May 5 2005, 4:56 pm: AIM shouldnt give you a virus but just incase make a virus program thing! If your still kinda nOt suRe about it go to www.aim.com and there is a thing called AIM express and like that you dont download its just like tO gO on w.o downloading!!
Erinn_the_bamf answered Thursday May 5 2005, 3:46 pm: AIM should not give you a virus. AIM+ sometimes does so don't download that. The only way to get a virus is if someone sends you an attachment with a virus. So make sure you always know who you are talking to. [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
Teza answered Thursday May 5 2005, 3:40 pm: I had AIM for a loong time and I never got a virud. If you think you might get a virus get a virus protector. You could also go to www.aim.com and click on aim epress and sign on on there. X0` [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]
Karen answered Thursday May 5 2005, 3:06 pm: I have had AIM for more than 3 years and it does not give you viruses at all. The only way to get a virus through AIM is if you receive a file from someone who has a virus attached to it but no one that I know sends/receives files so you're fine. You should download it. OrionsFire answered Thursday May 5 2005, 11:50 am: It won't give you a virus as long as you don't accept files or random links from people you don't trust. You can also change your settings to refuse certain things to better protect yourself, also download a free Virus program such as AVG. [ OrionsFire's advice column | Ask OrionsFire A Question ]

SimplyMe answered Thursday May 5 2005, 10:31 am: AIM isnt bad on viruses.. just dont get AIM+. It doesnt work very well, and I believe that is virus causing. In people's profiles, don't click any links, unless you know for a fact that it leads to an 'Extended Profile' (you can do this by moving your mouse of the link, and seeing where it will lead you, BUT dont click it).. another big thing is going into chatrooms, dont go into them unless its a chatroom you, or a friend of your started with people you know.
