Question Posted Monday August 23 2004, 1:28 pm

I'm 13/f with long blonde hair. I'm getting my hair highlighted (a lighter blonde) in a few days and i was just wondering is it really really bad for your hair? Can highlighting it do permenant damage? I'm not sure if i still want it highlighted if it's gunna ruin my hair.

It really depends on your type of hair. Like,ot 2 sound racist, but black people have a different type of hair than white people, so black people cant get highlights. The only posible things highlights can do 2 ur hair that I know of, is dry your hair out really bad. It depends on your hair type though. Hope I helped!!

Permanent hair dye, whether highlights or a full head, will dry out and potentially damage your hair. You can keep damage to a minimum however by making sure you treat it with specifically designed hair products for coloured hair which are extra-conditioning and will help stop your hair drying out. Highlighting still won't be good for your hair, but you can basically cancel out the damage it does.

Highlighting it won't do permanent damage. The only thing you want to do is watch how often you're dying your hair. You need to give it a break every now and then, meaning get the dead ends trimmed, and stop dying it for a while. That will allow your hair to replenish itself,as they say,and maintain it's health.Your hair dresser should tell you if it's too much that you want done to your hair. But no,doing some highlights now will not destroy your hair!!I bet it'll look great! :)

Well ive gotten my hair highlighted before and its the same as dying your hair/perming/bleaching and my aunt is a hair dresser and do you know that "brushing" instead of using a pick/comb isint good for your hair, the shampoo you use may not be good either, there are so many thing that you dont think about, i dont think that its gonna ruin your hair unless the beautician doesnt know what the heck shes doin, ppl get it done everyday, im sure youll be fine! no worries and happy highlighting! :*:SaRa:*:

Hightlighting your hair will make your hair dry for a week or so. But if you have good conditioner then your hair will go back to normal. If you are not sure if you have a good conditioner you can ask your hair dresser and she can give you the right kind. Hope I helped!

SleepingBeauty answered Monday August 23 2004, 4:40 pm:
Highlighting your hair can do both good and bad. It will make your hair much more prone to breakage. But since you're not dying your whole head it won't take as long to grow out if there is damage. If you want to make sure you don't damage it even more after you get it done, use a super moisturizing conditioner and limit your blow-dryer and straightener time. And if you don't mind having your hair dry a little slower but still want to blow dry it, get a hair dryer with a cool air setting. It will take a little longer but it's well worth it.

I know that dyeing can hurt your hair, but I highlighting won't. I have auburn hair, and I have golden brown highlights professionally put in, and it has never had any bad effects on my hair.

Well, i highlite my hair and it doesnt do any damage. I've been gettin highlites for about 3 years now, and as long as you use like a shampoo and conditioner thats for color-treated or chemically-treated hair, and just use basic hygeine, you'll be okay. Be careful during summer tho, because chlorine can cause damage, but as long as you always wash your hair after being in the pool, you should be okay!

Your hair salon will keep track or should about how often you get your hair highlighted and they should know. I get mine about every 3 months. But make sure you get shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, as it hydrateds and adds lots of proteins to your hair. I use Bed Head Dumb blonde Shampoo and Conditioner for color treated hair. =)

Uhm.. kind of. If you have daRk blonde haiR and get light blonde highlights once oR twice.. no, you'll be fine. HoweveR, if you have bRight Red haiR and you highlight it blonde... it will have some discoloRation. And wheneveR you fully dye the head you'll see some discoloRation... and afteR the second time you'll see some damage, and it will always be dRied out! I have daRk bRown haiR with caRamel/golden highlights, and I used HeRbal Essences at home highlight kit, which can be puRchased at WalgReens, CVS, EckeRd, Wal-maRt and so on, foR about $8.50. I love the way it looks!! The coloR stays in foR a Really long time, and it's so simple to do; I had my Mommie do mine foR me!! I don't have any discoloRation oR damage fRom it whatsoeveR!!! If you ARE going to do this.. I Reccommend checking out that pRoduct!! Goodluck; hope I helped!!

i think it will turn out pretty. it will not ruin your hair, now if you go from blonde to black liek i did your in trouble, but just highlights wont hurt it any. it will just look really prett and give your hair dimensions.
