MY SLOGAN: TREAT YOURSELF!

Hi my name is Jen - I am 33 and married; a graphic desinger, a big sister, movie lover, horse rider, and board game nerd.

advice

Hey All!
Homecoming is a way away, but I am currious. I have never gone to a dance before. My boyfriend and I are going to most of the dances at both of our schools this year, because it is his senior year. I already have a dress for Prom. and it is floor length. I wore it in a wedding.

So, is homecoming like prom at all? Do you get an almost to the floor dress? a knee length? what? What are good colors?

Is it a huge deal? How much should one spend on a homecoming dress.

What about shoes?

its in September or October. (I cannot remember!)

thanks so much in advance.
I'll rate and leave feedback!
-SLeK-

The formalness of school dances are completely different for every school. At my high school homecoming was more like a party than a dance. Nobody wore formal dresses - that was saved for prom. So I would ask some of the older students at your school who have gone, and see what the 'dress code' is before worring about what to wear. If you can, avoid bringing a purse, they only get in the way.

I heard that doctors put you on birth control to make your period regular. Other people said they just give you regular medicine to regulate your period. But if I get put on birth control, is that the same one that prevents pregnancy (so I can kinda kill 2 birds with 1 stone haha) and does ALL birth control make you gain weight cause that's a turn off. Thanks.

Yes for medical reasons a doctor will put you on birth control to regulate your period or lessen sever cramps (that's why my sister took it so young.) And yes, any birth control pill is exactly that, birth control - to prevent pregnacy. The side effects of taking the pill are different for everyone, but weight gain is deffinetely a common one. I gained 20 pounds.

i have old books and i was wondering instead of donating them can i bring to the library to sell them? or should i bring to a bookstore to sell them?

I don't think a libary will "buy" used books from anyone off the street. They usualy take donations. However a used book store will - like Half Price Books (you woun't get much though).

Your best bet is to sell them online - somewhere like amazon.com.

i dont know what i'm suppose to call my sister in laws parents.. i mean i dont if i call them be mrs and mr.... or by first name?

Since you are considered "family" I think it would be proper to call them by their first names.

I have been close to this guy for about a year now. We have been really good friends and on/off boyfriend/girlfriend all year. Then suddenly he decided he was bored of me and now we aren't as close anymore. He blocks me on MSN when he feels like it then will be all over me when he next sees me. I care about him an awful lot and really don't want us to drift apart but I'm so sick of him treating me this way. I know I should just forget about him but I've got so close to him over the past year and I don't want to throw it all away. I can't talk about it to him because he just finds the whole thing a big joke and never takes me seriously. I care about him so much, I don't know what to do.
We're both nearly 14.

What exactly do you like about this boy? Really ask yourself this question. He ignores you, and thinks your relationship is a joke. How can you like someone who has no respect for you? I really think your life would be happier without him. It seems all he gives you pain.

So I’m engaged to be married in one year. I was raised Christian and although I don’t go to church or anything any more my I do still believe. My fiancé is an atheist. It’s really important to me (and to my family) to get married in the church but he says that would be ‘compromising his beliefs’ and doesn’t want to. I don’t care if we never step foot in a church again but my uncle is a priest and I can’t tell him that he can’t preside over my wedding! I’ve always known and respected that we don’t feel the same way about religion but I want to spend the rest of my life with this guy but I don’t know what to do about the wedding. Any advice?

Who says your wedding has to take place in a church? It's your wedding, you can have it anywhere you'd like. And if your uncle is unwilling to marry you besides in his church, than that's his problem.

My husband is an athiest as well. We were married in a flower conservitory by a judge, God was never mentioned, and no one cared. If fact most people said it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. Your wedding day is about you and your husband. God doesn't have to be a part of it, nor should it if it is something he doesn't believe in. Do what you and your husband want - what others think doesn't matter.

okay my friend got fingured by her boyfriend. shes just about 2 weeks late for her period, and she keeps asking me if that could have affected her period track. she keeps thinking shes pregant, but i know that cant be the case. can someone finguring you cause you to skip a period? or any thing? please post and fast with advice!!

No, being fingered will not affect your period. Stress can though, and is most likely the cause of her late period.

Like many people I bought the new Harry Potter book a few days ago. Mine was the first out of the box( and therefore obviously a first edition) and it looks perfectly normal.

However there is a fault on page 109/110. The pages have been ripped and glued together and then printed oddly. If it was a stamp then it would be instantly valuable. As Harry Potter is collectable I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a faulty print. Is it at all possible that this will become valuable? Should I look after the book especially or just treat it normally?

There were over 10 million copies of Harry Potter 6 printed. A first edition of this book is NOT rare. All 10 millon are first editions. Even with a slight falt, I am sorry to say it is not going to become valuable.

I'm 14 and I'm one of 3 people in my grade that doesn't have a cell phone. I'm constantly out with my friends and they don't like me to call home on their phones cus it uses there minutes. *They didn't mind at first but when I have to constantly call home they got frusterated* My parents want me to call all the time when I'm out. I've tried explaining to them all the reasons why I need one, Like how they want me to call home and all that but they still say you dont get one till your 16 like your brothers. Well, im not my brothers, im more responsible, but i tried to tell my parents that and they wont believe me!
What should I do?

I highly doubt everyone in your grade but 3 people have cell phones.

When I was a kid, no one had cell phones, and yet we were still able to call our parents and tell them where we were. Your excuses are weak. If you want a cell phone, either wait until you are 16 for the phone your parents have generously offered; or pay for one yourself. Cell phones are a convenience, not a necessity.

Okay well this is a bit of a weird question but ah well.
I can't smile! My normal expression makes me look unhappy, even when I'm not. People always think I'm giving them a dirty look and when I try and smile at them it looks forced and bitchy. I can smile when it comes naturally but if someone asks me to, I can't. It's starting to become a real problem as everyone thinks I'm being unfriendly when I can't help it.
How can I learn to smile?

Honestly I have no idea, I am known for constantly having a smile on my face.

I guess you just need to practice. If you are just sitting around, using the computer for example - keep a smile on your face. Hold it there even if it is uncomfortable. Eventually it should come more naturally. Good luck!

Im buying a shirt for a friend of mine who is 6`1 and quite thin. Im not sure what size shirts he wears and I dont want to ask him because I want it to be a surprise. Do you think a large or meduim would work best? Looking at both length and width. I dont want him with baggly clothes but I dont want it too short either.

That's pretty tall. I would definetaly get him a large. T-shirts shrink anyways.

Hello, I was wondering if there were some long term effects of going on "the pill"? I've checked the Planned Parenthood site, it doesn't say anything about long term effects, only side effects in taking it.

I've also googled it without a credible website, a lot of them are personal websites or something of the sort.

Does anyone have a website that they know of that I can find this information?

Here's my personal experiance:
While on the pill, both my sister and I gained about 20 pounds over 4 months. I have manage to lose only 10. The first week I had terrible stomach aches. When I forget to take it (which is rare) I get those stomache aches again for a day or two.

im only 13/f and i have had 3 boyfriends but never done anything more than hold hands and hug?? i havent even gotten my first kiss! is there some way i can get it soon or do i just have to wait?? i rate high!

I don't understand why so many young girls are in such a hurry to grow up. Your only 13, you are not being left in the dust because you haven't kissed a boy yet. Be patient and wait for the right boy. You don't want to remember your first kiss with a toad that you don't care about.

My bestfriend is 21. She is pregnant and does not want to keep the child because she cannot support it. She wants to have an abbortion. I have mixed feelings about it, but it's her life. I don't know how I can help her..because I'm still in highschool and don't have a job where I can lend her some money. But she's lent my cousin a LOT of money because he needed help, but he can't pay herback, for other reasons. I don't know how I can help her. And she can't tell her Mom because her Mom will kick her out of the house, and then she won't have any place to live & a child.

I'm scared for her.

Any Advice??...

- If you have opinions on abortions, I don't really want to get into the subject. So thank you anyways.

Thank you

Your friend is not looking for you to give her money or help raise a child. All she needs from you is your friendship. It's natrual to be worried for her and have a need to help. She is an adult, so what she does is her decision, be supportive with whatever decision she makes. That is how you can help her.

Okay, so I have this shirt that is just right lengthwise but the width of it is too wide. do you know any tricks that i can do to the shirt to make a smaller, without sewing. thanks in advance.

Without sewing? I guess you could try safty pins.
I would bring it to a tailor. They could probably fix it for under $15.

Ok I am a girl and i have a Boyfriend and I really Love him and the sex we have is fun and enjoyable........but......like a week ago my best friend whho is a girl came over and we were watching t.v. and suddenly we started kissing and then we had lesbian sex but I really love my boy friend but i might feel something for my best friend to so am i a lesbian or am i stright should i go for the guy or girl?

No one can tell you if you are gay or straight. It should be whatever your natural instinct is.

I think you should break it off with your boyfriend no matter your sexual preference. You obviously don't love him if you are capable of cheating on him. People in love don't do that. Let him go, he deserves better.

hey i just wanted to know if there is anyway that you could let people not see what your rating is? like take it out or something... anyone who can tell me how i'll give a 5 thanks

No, there is not a system in place for that.
Unless you give bad advice, what would be the benifit?

Ok to get the facts out of the way. I'm 23 married to a 42 year old man. The age difference doesn't bother us since I seem older and he acts younger. I recently came across an email from my husband to another man while looking for some pics he had lost off his hard drive. I had the bright idea that they might be in his sent messages folder if he'd sent them to someone. Since we're usually honest with each other, we have complete access to the other's email account. I often check his mail to weed out the junk so when he gets home from work he gets only the important stuff. He knows I do this and has said several times that he likes it like that and it saves him from doing it himself.
Anyway, I was right about finding the pics but the pics aren't all I found. The email state that he hadn't been with a man in about 6 years due to being in a committed relationship (before me) and he was looking forward to experiencing it again. Subsequent emails went on to set up a meeting which I assume happened. I'm was hurt and surprised since we've been together for a while and are married and he's never mentioned him being bi to me before. He's had plenty of oppportunities since I told him early in our relationship that I am bi myself and also that I had previously dated a guy that was bi. He's never brought it up and makes it appear that he's completely straight.

This has been bothering me for about 2 weeks now and I don't know how to bring it up without causing embarrassment and possibly an argument. He knows something is wrong because I've been quiet but I keep telling him I'm fine. I don't have a problem with him being bi since I am myself but I do wish he'd been honest with me before, especially since we agreed at the start of our relationship that we'd always be honest with each other. Any suggestions?

Nothing is going to happen until you express your feelings. As I always say, communication is key to any relationship. The longer you wait to say something, the more upset you are going to get. If you are unsure what to say, start out by writing him a letter. You don't even have to show it to him, but doing so will help you straighten out your feelings.

You want your husband to be honest to you, then be honest with him. Stop hiding and tell him what is bothering you.

my friend just told me she was talking to my boyfriend ont he hpone and he told her he didnt really like me anymore =[ and i kno shes not lieing cause like i dont kno you can just tell and cause the way hes been atcing . and knowing him he won't tell me this for like a week and i dont kno what to do

We since this boy is your boyfriend, then you should be able to communicate with him. Tell him what you heard and ask him if it's true. A relationship doesn't work if you are not willing to communicate your feelings.
