Like many people I bought the new Harry Potter book a few days ago. Mine was the first out of the box( and therefore obviously a first edition) and it looks perfectly normal.
However there is a fault on page 109/110. The pages have been ripped and glued together and then printed oddly. If it was a stamp then it would be instantly valuable. As Harry Potter is collectable I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a faulty print. Is it at all possible that this will become valuable? Should I look after the book especially or just treat it normally?
jbdreamer answered Thursday July 21 2005, 4:56 pm: There were over 10 million copies of Harry Potter 6 printed. A first edition of this book is NOT rare. All 10 millon are first editions. Even with a slight falt, I am sorry to say it is not going to become valuable. [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]

I remember there being a batch of books that had a fault last time a Harry Potter book which became reasonably valuable, but how valuable your copy is depends on how unusual it is and whether people will pay for it. You may well be able to sell it now for a profit, but I imagine it's not something that will particularly increase in value with time, so if you want to sell it you'll probably get most for it now whilst there is still a lot of hype and excitement about the book release. Normally first editions will increase in value because good copies become increasingly rare with time, but due to how large this first printing is a first edition will never be valuable on its own, and what you (may) have is a bit of a novelty which certain people will be willing to pay more for because there isn't anything collectable about normal Harry Potter first editions (or at least, not of the later books - nice first editions of the first book are rather valuable).
