Hey All!
Homecoming is a way away, but I am currious. I have never gone to a dance before. My boyfriend and I are going to most of the dances at both of our schools this year, because it is his senior year. I already have a dress for Prom. and it is floor length. I wore it in a wedding.
So, is homecoming like prom at all? Do you get an almost to the floor dress? a knee length? what? What are good colors?
Is it a huge deal? How much should one spend on a homecoming dress.
What about shoes?
its in September or October. (I cannot remember!)
thanks so much in advance.
I'll rate and leave feedback!

Additional info, added Tuesday July 26 2005, 8:10 pm: My boyfriend and I have been together a few days shy of a year and a half. as of today. But When the dance comes around, It will be 4 or 5 months away from 2 years if that makes any difference.

Last year I wore a long dress but this year I'm wearing a really short one. Just try on a bunch of different ones and find what you like. There are lots of websites with them. Same thing with colors, just get what you like. For shoes, get some strappy heels that match your dress. Hope this helps, have fun! Homecoming is a blast.
NaZy answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 11:58 am: your Homecoming dress isn't supposed to be really really formal. like it is, but not as fancy as your Prom dress. Don't let your dress hit the floor.. and try not to get black because just about everyone gets a black dress! Get shoes to match. dont spend tons of money.. get whatever looks good. :)
Homecoming dress doesn't have to be all that fancy. It can be floor length, and up to knee length. No shorter.
Colors can be anything. Mine was black, but I just like black. But if it is fall, maybe earthy tones? Meh, just have fun. We had the whole spectrum of colors.
Don't spend a fortune on it. Find something enjoyable and affordable. Mine was on a huge sale, though, so I got a steal.
Shoes should match the dress, thats about it. Strappy sandals are the most common though.
Get a purse large enough to hold necesities (cell phone, possibly money, contact stuff, makeup, etc etc.), but not bulky. I recommend bringing a little money, a cell phone, and possibly makeup if you feel the need for touchups.
If it helps, I had a floorlength black velvet dress that had a a slit with a short train of sheer fabric in the back, and a bit of sheer fabric around the neck and backline (neckline was a bit below the collar, back was v-shaped). I had a small silver purse, and black satin sandals. Very pretty, I liked it.
On the other hand, my dear friend wore her favorite cocktail dress.
lildanceQT1 answered Wednesday July 27 2005, 7:49 am: Ok well seeing as I'm only 11 I am going to give you what I know. Homecoming I believe is in Late spetember or early october I honestly don't know. Homecoming is still one of those dances where you where swishy floor length dresses. I ahve seen a lot of light colors as pinks, blues, light pastel greens, the color however is left up to the individual. Yes I think you should bring a purse but make it a fancy one. A small satiny bag the same color as your dress ( or a color that matches) with a silver chain strap would be really nice and you can get those cheap at any store that sells purses or prom dresses. I can't tell you how much you should spend but I guess I can tell you that spending a TON of money isn't really a nessacary thing to do. You can get a really nice cheap ( well cheaper) dress at some stores in the mall like I don't know where you live but we have a store claled Deb that sells wedding dresses and prob dresses for like $250.00. I know that sounds like a lot of money but for a dress I'm sure thats nothing. I'm sorry I couldn't help you any farther like I said I'm only 11
Good Luck

Probably just a knee length dress would be better, with some cute heels. The best thing to do is ask around, see what people normally wear. As for a purse, it really depends on your outfit. But you probably only need a wristlet or a clutch, a little handbag at the most. [ ballerina04's advice column | Ask ballerina04 A Question ]
devilspawn_666 answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 8:33 pm: Homecoming is a lot less formal than prom, which means you won't have to buy a super fancy dress. Ususally a knee length dress works well for homecoming. You can probably get a nice dress for around $50. As for shoes, there's not any sense in spending a lot of money on them if you only plan to wear them for just one night. Try looking at dress shoes at Payless, they only cost about $15 and look just as good as what you find in the department stores. I would reccomend taking a small purse that's big enough for your keys, cell phone, and maybe a few extra things such as a camera for pictures at the dance, mints, lipgloss, etc. [ devilspawn_666's advice column | Ask devilspawn_666 A Question ]
sweetheartedangel answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 8:29 pm: homecoming is not quite like prom to some people it is like if it isnt your junior or senior year it is like prom but if it is your junior or senior year its a prom practice! A lot of my friends got to the floor dresses but some people got shorter dresses, the color of the dress really depends on the theme of the dance or you can just pick your favorite colors. in some cases homecoming is a big deal, it was to me, so yea i would say it is. I spent liek $175 total on homecoming including the shoes, and no dont take a purse put your lipgloss tickets and money in your boyfriends pocket and stay with him so he dont loose it. hope i helped! Teza answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 8:22 pm: Honestlly I have never been to a homecomming because I'm not in high school yet but I know people who have and what you wear. You can wear a formal dress.. and you just dress up. Its fun! I would rather wear a dress that is knee lenght then a really long one. For shoes you can wear heels but you will end up taking them off from all the dancing! lol.. You can get your hair done in a cute bun or just leave it down straight or curly! Black is always a cute color for a dress expecilly for a event like that. You dont have to over due. You can also add cute colorful accesories to your outfit. Like if you are wearing a black dress pick another color to match your outfit.. maybe like silver? You can always find cute silver heels, a cute bag, jewerly! You dont have to spend a lot on your dress. You can get it at like JC Penny or Charlotte Rousse. Like $40 which is perfect for a short black dress or whatever color! clearlypink428 answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 8:14 pm: omigosh- homecoming is so much fun!- there is no reason anyone- in ANY grade shouldnt go. it was a blast at my old school, and i know it will be at yours. 1.) homecoming is nothing like prom. its a semi-formal occasion- while prom is an altogether formal occasion. which means that 2.) your dress length is up to you. i saw a couple girls there with prom-like dresses- but i think they went a bit overboard compared to everyone else. 3.) for last year's homecoming- i got an uneven dress, (hot pink- halter- VERY glittery) [ clearlypink428's advice column | Ask clearlypink428 A Question ]
