Comedies:

Monty Python's Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
There's Something About Mary
The Princess Bride
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
Robin Hood: Men In Tights
Wayne's World
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Garfield the Movie
Napoleon Dynamite
Deperately Seeking Susan

Based on true stories:

Evita (my personal favorite; musical starring Madonna about an Argentine prostitute who works her way up to being the first lady of Argentina and did things for the poor and worked for women's rights)
Chicago (1920s)

Romantic:

The Princess Bride
A Midsummer Night's Dream (sounds corny but pretty good)
Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera

Other:

Dear Frankie
Lord of the Rings

much more but can't list them all!
