"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)

advice
My freshmen year of high school just ended and its my first day of summer vacation and I'm already sad..I dont want it to be summer in fact I hate summer all I wanna do is cry. I don't know how to make this summer go by fast I even hate my job but my parents are making me work! Any suggestions of things I can do so I can be happier?
Hang out with your friends, go to the beach, and have fun. Be grateful you have a job (roughly 75% of teens in my area are unemployed, meaning they want a job and can't get one) and try to make the best of your shifts. Befriend your co-workers if possible, and hang out with them after work. Having friends at work makes it less horrible, too.
Do you always feel like crying or do you just hate summer and not having school? If you're always upset like this you may want to ask your doctor or a school counselor about a depression screening. Schools typically have these resources available year-round or can refer you to someone.

Well im 15 and wanna know how/if i can tell when i ovulate because i dont want to have sex around that time... Yes i know in to young to have sex. But i would really like to know please help...
I think you're talking about the rhythm method. It's most effective for women who have regular periods, but its effectiveness is significantly lower than other methods such as the pill or condoms. Plus, sperm can live inside of your body for days, so you could have sex, then ovulate a few days later and get pregnant.
Anyway, here's the WebMD page about it:
And Livestrong:
Calculator:
(Keep in mind that this site will tell you BEST days to conceive, because of the site's content, so just use it for the dates)
Honestly, as a teen your periods are probably still not regular enough to rely on this sort of method. You'd be better off using condoms (which you should be using anyway to help prevent STDs) or a hormonal method such as the pill. Both are highly effective when used correctly, and may fit in better with your lifestyle, too. Whatever method you use, be diligent about using it. Even one slip-up could get you pregnant, and NO method is 100%.

Hi.
I'm 19 years old, female, and I have been doing crash diets and starvation diets for many years.
I am so sick of them and done with not enjoying amazing food or feeling giulty.
I gained a lot of weight and I want to loose it healthily.
Does weight watchers work?
How does it work if you could eat ice crem! I don't get it.
Weight Watchers absolutely works.
It works because the "points" system gives you the flexibility to eat whatever you want within your daily allotment. That's why you can eat ice cream if you want to.
Basically it teaches you to practice portion control while taking into account fat, carbs, protein, etc. and providing a support system.

I Need Help. My boyfriend calls me all these cute names, and I only call him "Babe" I want to call him more. Any suggestions?
( We're a young couple, like teens, and, I don't want to call him 'Hun' because that just sounds like what an older couple would call each other..)

YOU SPARKLY CUPCAKE MOUSE.
Anyway, the best way is to be creative. A lot of guys aren't always huge fans of constantly being called sweetiepants. My friend calls her boyfriend her "love muffin" among other things, all based on inside jokes between the two of them.

Also, have you considered a refurbished device? I got one from Verizon to replace my defective droid, and it was honestly like new. It's guaranteed through the company, so you're not stuck with a broken phone if there's something wrong with it.

Okay I haven't gone swimming since I was a little girl and when I did I've always worn one pieces so yeah.
I'm not too keen on the whole bikini thing even though I'm almost going to graduate high school this year so I figured bikini top and shorts would be less revealing than wearing bikini bottom.
But short swimming shorts...are you supposed to wear something underneath like a bikini bottom? I just feel like that's wearing real pants with no underwear!
I wear them sometimes and wear my bikini bottom under them. I'd feel way too exposed without them, especially because I get looser-fitting ones (my legs aren't skinny by any means, and a tight pair wouldn't be flattering). Also, they can sometimes slide down a bit when soaked, and being naked underneath could lead to accidental flashing.
However, board shorts are often tighter (and go to your knee) and I don't think people wear bottoms with those, because of the tighter fit.

well i like my bestfriend and were hanging out at his house again tomorrow, except this time we have no idea what to do. everytime i go over his house we play video games, watch movies, go for walks, play at parks, go to the shops, go on drives. And we never have any idea of what else to do, considering we hang out for 10+hours.
do you have any suggestions of things we could do? we're both limited on money and he says the balls in my court for whatever we want to do. but i just cant think of anything we havent already done! haha. we need to do something different considering we do the same thing all the time and its becoming very routine haha. he wont tell me what he feels like doing cause he says he'll be happy with whatever i decide. i just cant think of anything! help?
Are you both in college? Many places have free admission with a college ID. Ask around! the MoFA in Boston does that :)
Look up places near you on Yelp, and explore them. Look up random landmarks on Wikipedia, and go there. Take pictures or something. Drive somewhere new. Yea, gas is expensive, but it's still cheaper than a lot of things, so take a road trip.

I'm getting a laptop soon for college. Im probably going to buy a refurbished one. That's ok right...? Like from overstock.com? I'm just going to use it for homework and maybe playing a few games on it.
So what is the best brands? How much memory or whatever it's called do I need? What is ghz? How much of that?
I'm really bad with technology ha
I agree with Matt - MacBooks are overrated.
A PC will be much cheaper, and if you don't care much about technology/are bad with it, a PC will do its job and save you hundreds of dollars in the process.
Wait until the back to school deals start coming out, or even now, check out some at Best Buy or something (any store that has them set up, with salespeople, will work. Staples is good, but in my area is at least $100-150 more expensive for the same computers.)
Dell has good deals, but from seeing other people's experiences, the lower-level ones are more flimsy. Their Studio laptops are nice, and seem wicked rugged. My best friend has a Studio and has survived a year in her possession. Also, there's lots of nice colors. You'll be using it everyday, and it's always gonna be out in your room. Pay the extra $30, it's worth it :)
I have an HP. I got a pretty good deal on it, but I had to buy the crazy-soupedup-deluxe model because the "normal" configuration was sold out on the entire east coast... anyway... I have 8GB of RAM and it's completely unnecessary unless you're doing hardcore gaming, in which case a sales person can direct you towards the proper setup. 3-4GB is enough for a typical college student (Facebook, tumblr, homework, Facebook games).
Lastly, some unsolicited advice. Back up your sh*t! Seriously. Buy an external hard drive right now.
Western Digital seems to be the most common. I have that, deleted whatever program came with it (it stinks) and use Fbackup. If price is an issue, buy one at Target/Staples/WallyWorld when they're on sale for back to school. I got mine for $40, and some flash drives practically free.
Oh and get a neoprene case to protect it in whatever bag you carry it in. My friend's roommate got a quarter stuck in her CD slot and it took hours to get it out!

My girlfriend is excited because het favorire actor has a new movie and she wants to go see it but I'm worried because she cries everytime she watches hs movies. What can I do to comfort her down if she starts crying ?
Just watching the movie with her should be enough. Maybe cuddle with her, put an arm on her shoulder (probably are already doing that anyway...)
Honestly unless there's something seriously wrong with her, she'll stop crying when the movie is over, haha. Lots of people cry during movies, especially if they are easily attached to people or characters.
My dad may or may not have cried after being forced to watch the Notebook. Just saying. =)

I'm looking for a new powder that makes my skin look really smooth. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
I use Physicians Formula (it's available at any drugstore). Most of their stuff has minerals and it's good quality, and usually on sale. But it's all $15ish or less.
It never makes me break out or anything like that. Their face powders and powder foundations are both wicked nice :)

In PA can a 15 year old get a job, and if so can they work full time.
Go to your school office (or the town hall, if you're homeschooled) and ask for a work permit. You'll need one when you're employed anyways, and the guidelines/restrictions (such as what hours you can work, how many days, etc.) are usually included with it, for the employer to sign.
Anyway, you're pretty limited, especially in this economy. Grocery stores may hire you, fast food MAYBE, and restaurants (busboy, most likely).
Don't forget odd jobs! Mow lawns, water plants, walk dogs, babysit. Good luck!

Should I get the Driod or the I-Phone?
I own a Droid X, and I LOVE it. I personally think they're more customizable, and I prefer the interface. That being said, I'm not an iPhone hater, either. Both are nice phones. It comes down to what feels more natural to you, and what feels better in your hand/using it, etc.
I also think, just from personal experience, that the iPhone screen is slightly more fragile. I've seen SO MANY people crack/scratch/ruin their iPhone screens, or that classic "shattered but functioning" issue... So, a case and a screen protector are basically a must. Otherwise, you're taking your chances, especially with the iPhone because of the design.
Besides, the cases are really cute if you want them to be, or you can get a case that blends in. I currently have the black silicone case from the Verizon store, and people don't even believe I have a case on my phone until I show them.
You'll ultimately be happy with either of them, I believe. It's just a matter of preference, and if you don't mind kicking yourself when you buy an iPhone and the new model comes out, and you're stuck in your contract ;) Droids generally don't have as much hype surrounding the latest device, haha.
Oh, and Jailbreaking is supposedly becoming increasingly difficult, and "rooted" Droids are wicked cool :) I believe both of these actions void your warranty, so keep that in mind!
If you end up going with Droid (and have Verizon), inbox me with questions! My whole family has them :D

im a 16 yearold boy, and there are alot of girls at my school who were tops that are too short, and it shows off their stomach/hips. For some reason i have some kind of obsession with girls' hips, and when they show them off like that i get turned on as hell. i dont even get turned on by their breasts or ass, but whenever i see like a nice, tanned, waist line, i get so damn horny. Is this considered normal? A fetish>?
Totally normal. You're a guy, and you're attracted to the female body. Of course that's normal! Anyway, it's probably a reflection of a desire for a fit, toned body in the opposite sex. Any girl (well, most...) will have breasts and a butt, but it takes effort and work to get a nice, toned stomach area :)

whenever i'm online, it lasts for about 10 minutes and then disconnects itself. I have to turn airport off, turn it back on, then join my network again, then it will work. but i cant stand having to do that every 10 minutes. anyone know how to fix this?
ps. i'm using a 2wire modem
A lot of my friends at college have MacBooks, and they ALWAYS had issues connecting to our school network. A lot of them took their laptops to the Apple Store and I think the problem was a security update or something, or maybe a tweak of the settings of the computer itself.
Beyond that, I have a PC so I'm not much help. But the "Geniuses" usually have a solution :)

Me and my boyfriend try to have a baby, but a lot of my friends have baby's and they tell me if my boyfriend have a low amount of sperms i can not get pregnet.... :-(
how i know if my boyfriend have a good amount of sperm to get me pregnet??????
Assuming you mean "Pregnant"...
A doctor can test your boyfriend's sperm count. Having a lower count can make it difficult to conceive; however, all that's needed is one, so there's still plenty of opportunities available for you. He/she could also give you further fertility advice, test you for any issues, etc.
I'm 19 and have no actual personal experience with such an issue, so the extent of my knowledge is literally textbook.
Check these websites for more advice (but consult with a doctor before trying anything that could be harmful)

My prom theme this year is bucket list, or things you want to do before you die. I don't exactly love the theme, but I really want to make a great float because my school has a huge prom parade. Can anyone think of any good ideas that can be made for a float? I don't want anything too common, like climb mount everest, sky dive, etc.
Thank you!
A lot of people put "get married/have a family" on their lists.
Make a huge wedding cake float, and have a "bride" and "groom" stand on top (like the figures on a cake). Or, make fake figures, and have a bride and groom with their "kids" (borrow some small children for that part) standing around?
i really like victoria's secret clothing, not the pink stuff, the actual victoria's secret clothing that's in the catelogs. is there a store around connecticut/new york that has the victoria's secret clothing too? or do you absolutely have to order it online? thanks.
It's almost completely online. Outlets will sometimes have overstock, but you won't find the same selection as in stores. I don't think the stores are big enough to hold all that inventory!

I'm a 18 year old college kid with no income and I can't afford to pay $50+ every month for brand name BC pills. I was wondering if anyone is taking a generic brand for Loestrin 24 Fe and how it is (Any negative side effects, weight gain, etc.) and what the name for it is.
If not for Loestrin 24, just any generic brand BC pills (name please)
Thanks =]
Peeps' answer basically said it all. I'll just add that, from personal experience, it doesn't matter if it's brand name or not, what matters is what pill works best for you. One of my friends reacted oddly to every brand name but loves a generic; I was switched to a generic and started showing symptoms of depression. The "ideal" pill won't give you crazy mood swings, will regulate your period like it's supposed to, etc.
Also, does your college have you on some semblance of a health insurance plan? Check it out- you might already be paying for it. They can write you prescriptions & your copay will likely be cheaper there, unless PP charges based on income (I honestly have no idea how that part works sorry).

So, I would like to download an MP3 file from this site:
http://neilinnes.org/audio/mp3audio.htm
It says to right click and save the link. Problem is... I can't right click, since I have a MacBook. I clicked on the link regularly, but this comes up:
http://neilinnes.org/audio/Neil%20Innes%20-%20How%20Sweet%20To%20Be%20An%20Idiot.mp3
I want to save it to my iTunes library, but I don't know how to download the MP3 from here. Anybody know how?? Thanks so much! :)
Isn't right clicking on a Mac just clicking while you have two fingers on the touch pad?

I have a job application for a restaurant and it says I have to list three past jobs and I haven't had any. what do I put? The only thing I've ever did is babysit. Ive been applying for jobs and I put babysitting for past jobs and I haven't gotten a call back for none of them.
Put babysitting, any volunteer experience you have, and also put "references provided upon request". I'm assuming you're a teenager/young adult? The places you're applying will know you won't have years of experience.
Also, make a point of calling back and expressing interest in the job. Otherwise your application falls to the bottom of a pile.
