Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
how long did it take for the body stuff work for you? how long until they were all gone!?
It worked in about a month. My acne is strongly hormonal so it took that long to figure out if something worked.. it's also been less red and bumps were smaller and that's all I could ask for.
Okay so out of nowhere a couple of weeks ago my feet like started tingling & stuff & it's pretty annoying! I was reading online that your feet can start to tingle if you hurt your back or nerves in your back or something & my lower back has been hurting bec I thinknibhurt it from how I've been cracking it..I need to crack my back though or else it will start hurting really bad...but yeah I'm just kind of confused!! What so you do think is going on?
You're probably sitting for too long & pinching a nerve. You know that feeling when your foot/arm/leg/hand falls asleep if you sit or lay on it for too long? Well, the same thing can happen when you're sitting. Crossing your legs can accelerate this process, and it can happen even if your feet are flat on the floor. Stand up and stretch once in awhile, and walk around a bit if you can.
A lot of people in my family have problems with their back muscles, and many of them do this stretch; it really seems to help a lot.
- Lay on the floor near a couch or chair on your back. Scoot your butt over so you're against the couch/chair, and put your legs on the seat part (you should be making some nice 90 degree angles with your body at this point) I know it sounds like it's not stretching much, but it helps, especially for lower back issues. You can also get into that position while laying on a bed (floor might be too hard) and pull your knees toward your chest.
--- These shouldn't hurt you - if it does, stop immediately!!!
If this feeling happens even when you've been standing for awhile, you may have injured some nerves. To be on the safe side, I'd try to see a doctor. If you did in fact injure your back, they can refer you to a chiropractor or massage therapist.

OKay so I wont take long I am senior and in the 12th grade and there is this new admission in my school he is in the 11th grade
he is cute and i kinda want to get to know him
but the problem is i am a senior.. and it would be really weird just walking upto him and saying HIIII and conversing
that sort of stuff cant happen
i mean you know i am fairly popular in school and my friends notice. and i know the 11th grade people quite well
and i dont want stupid stuff going around school
but
this guy is really cute and i really think he might just turn out to be my type
but i dont know how i get to know him!!!!!!!
Just talk to him! Honestly if you go through your life caring THAT much what other people think, you could miss out on a great opportunity. Got any mutual friends? Hang out together, something low-key like a group dinner if you're nervous.
Or, be bold and just ask if he wants to hang out with you. Is he the academic type? If he's in a class you took last year, offer to study with him after school while getting coffee or something :)
I don't see why "that sort of stuff can't happen"... what's the big deal? It's only a grade apart and if you already know the 11th grade quite well, what's the difference if you get to know one more? I say go for it!
Good luck!
I need a new bag/purse but I can't find anything I really like...
i need something kind of big, but not obnoxious. i don't like leather, i prefer like canvas and i like really simple things...like no big buckles or fringe or anything...
anyone know where i can find something good?
ive looked at tj maxx and target...but i can't find anything I really like...
My friend just got a bag like that at h&m. You could also try a store like Kohls.
L.L. Bean is known for outdoorsy things and makes wicked durable canvas totes in many colors. They even have a sunwashed line now, and their new line aimed at a younger crowd often has similar styles. It's called L.L. Bean Signature.
Here are a couple links. I was on my Droid phone when I originally answered, & copying and pasting annoys me on the touch screen :P

Hi all-
This summer I have been working at a little cafe, not a chain restaurant or anything just a local place to eat.
I get paid $8 an hour, but after the taxes are taken out of my paycheck its only about $7 an hour! I lose about $50 from my paycheck every WEEK!
Some of my friends get paid straight $8 an hour without tax deductions because of the deal that if it is only a temporary job (such as employed for less than 6 months or something like that?), then money won't be deducted.
I am not planning on returning to this job next year; so since this would qualify as a "temporary job," is there ANYTHING I can do to get back the money that has been deducted?
I have saved all my receipts or whatever the top portion is that comes with the checks. If anyone knows anyway I can get money back, such as file for something, I would really, really appreciate it! I have gotten about $600 taken from my paycheck this summer :(
Thanks for any information!
Matt's right, you'll get most back in your taxes.
That's the form you'll most likely be using and you can use estimates to calculate your return :)
I don't know of any way to pay NO taxes at all. A part of your taxes go to social security and whatnot. Your friends are either being paid under the table or are employed through an agency of some kind/federal work study? Maybe ask how they managed such a thing because I've never heard of that. Even people who are eligible for paying very little in taxes (large families, low income, etc) still pay a bit in taxes regardless.

Hey! I wanted to knOW if any1 knows bout an online company where i can buy eyeshadows with an unexpensive shipping rate. Thanks to everyone!
Drugstore.com has free shipping on orders over $25 (and, I assume, quite inexpensive shipping otherwise)
ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face) cosmetics is running a promotion this month for their "birthday" and their makeup is really cheap and I don't remember shipping being expensive at all, if not free ;)
Amazon often offers makeup with free super saver (order over $25) or Prime shipping. If you're a college student, you can get a free year of Prime with a valid .edu email address through Amazon Student.
Generally, free shipping is standard shipping to the US (sometimes just the "lower" 48, sometimes Alaska and Hawaii) and you'll pay more for international and/or expedited shipping :)
And, there's always in-store shopping! Some Target stores sell ELF and they have a Sonia Kashuk (don't remember how it's spelled) line.

do you think my face will get wrose?
please answer all my questions. thanks :)
and im leaving this wed.
melissa.
If you're going on a plane you can bring bottles up to three ounces in a quart-size, clear, zip top bag. It would be cheaper to buy empty travel size bottles at the drugstore and pour a small amount of the products into the travel bottles. You can get them anywhere. Check the aisle where the sample sizes are. Most companies sell small bottles of popular products there and there should also be the empty bottles I'm talking about. Ask a sales associate if you don't see them, it's a common item so they'll know what you're looking for.
I think this item would work out for you better than switching face washes :)
Also, make sure you shake the toner before you pour some into a smaller bottle!
Some people that I think work for the city came by my house and put "no parking" signs on the curbs of my house. They didn't put any of these signs in my neighbors yard, why would they just put these signs in my yard. We cant park on the curb of the street by our house, but my neighbors can park on their side of the street. The signs say " no parking anytime". None of my neighbors have these "no parking" signs on their curbs. Why do I have it on mine?
Call your local police department (non-emergency, obviously, this isn't a 911-worthy incident) and ask why the signs were put up. If they don't know, they can probably direct you to the public works department... actually if you have a way of getting that number you should call them first.
Your question is also somewhat confusing to me... it seems like the neighbors live on the opposite side of the street, am I right? If so, the city/town you live in may simply be enforcing a rule about parking, nothing against you or anyone on that road. The road might be too narrow (by public safety standards) for cars to be parked on both sides. Personally, I think more cities need to do this, because of the potential for accidents. There's so many streets in Worcester (a city near me) that people park on both sides, and it's barely wide enough for one car- and it's supposed to be a two-lane road!
Anyway, back to your situation. Be nice when you call - it's not anyone's fault the signs are put up and it's likely a logical decision. I doubt that it's something personal against you, because if it was, that seems like a HUGE abuse of power to me.
Another possible situation is that the part of road you live on is a state highway. There's a road in my town that is state property for about a 2-mile stretch, maybe less. And the speed limit is only 30mph, "highway" here doesn't mean 65mph ;). Or, they could be temporary signs - line painting, street sweeping, etc.
Hope the situation works out for you, or that you can park on the other side of the street!

How long does it take to die of alcohol poisoning?
Do you have to binge drink for like months at a time and then you die of alcohol poisoning or Can you die from just sitting down and chugging a bottle of whiskey in one sitting?
Does it take awhile or is it quick?
You die of alcohol poisoning when your BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is too high. It becomes higher each time you have a drink. A drink is equal to:
- 12 ounces of beer
- 5 ounces of wine
- 1.5 ounces of 40 proof liquor
After you stop drinking, your BAC continues to rise for a time. It takes awhile for it to be absorbed into your system.
EDIT: I edited this answer to clarify what BAC stood for. Sorry for the confusion - it's been used so much in my classes for years, I forgot that it actually is a somewhat uncommon abbreviation. (End edit)
Here are some informational websites:
To ESTIMATE your BAC: - http://bloodalcoholcalculator.org/
(Please note that everyone is different, and your weight, age, gender, and what you've eaten make a difference. DO NOT DRIVE if you've consumed alcohol)
How easy it can be to get dangerous levels:
In the United States the legal drinking age is 21. In most of the world it is 18. Be responsible and PLEASE don't buy into the mindset that blacking out and/or getting sent to the hospital is a goal someone needs to reach when drinking. It's wicked dangerous habit, pointless, and will give you a nasty hangover at best, a death certificate at worst. Just don't do it.
Also, according to your profile, you're 13. So, you shouldn't really be drinking. Not trying to sound like your mom here, just stating a fact that you shouldn't be doing illegal things ;)

some of my zits got bigger... do you think they make them worse then start working cause some got bigger but then went away.
if you stop using thus product when they are clear will it make then worse?
Yeah it's possible for acne to get worse when starting a new treatment.
It really depends on your skin - if you stop using it but start using just a normal cleanser, it might be enough to keep your skin clear. Otherwise you may have to stick with an acne cleanser.
Hello all,
I am 29 f and, I had about 4 weeks ago a ectopic pregnancy and I would love to know how long after a ectopic pregnancy should I wait to I try again to get pregnant ??????
This is something you should be asking your doctor. Everyone is different and the best answer we could give you would be a guideline we found on Google or WebMD. It is possible relatively quickly though, usually your doctor will examine you to make a decision (it has happened to many people I know but I didn't ask specifics)
I wish you the best of luck :)

i have been using the tea tree face wash and toner and i have been using it for about 10 days and it only looks a little better... do you think the product isn't working?
what do you think?
thanks!(:
It might be? Like I said before it usually takes a month to see the full effect, and since you already own the stuff you might as well use it :)
I'm going to the midnight premiere of Deathly Hallows and I want to make my own shirt. I want something unique that has to do specifically with DH and not other books and also something that not everyone else will have. I'd also prefer it to have something to do with Slytherin or the Malfoys but if not that's cool too. Thanks in advance!
I would make something involving the horcruxes! I actually just made a deathly hallows necklace to wear to a midnight premiere.
Anyway most people who wear something Harry Potter related buy it: costumes, shirts, etc. Get a tshirt and fabric paint and go crazy! Maybe sketch each of the horcruxes with a fabric pen. Make it look like the Marauder's Map with a treasure map feel. I'd use sponges and brushes, for an old paper effect- gold for sure. That would look striking :)
Oh and on the back, put a quote, in a contrasting color from the shirt. I'm a big fan of "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B*TCH!" Or "I'm holy! Ear, ear"
Have fun :)

hi i was the same girl that was talking to you about the body shop! i was wondering if you know or reccomend an acne back wash at that store and some hair stuff that makes your hair really nice, soft, not flieaways, no split ends and stuff?
thanks(:
melissa(:
I use the tea tree face wash on my body and recently discovered there is a body wash too. I used to use Neutrogena Body Clear (both scents) and that seemed to work well. You can use toner and spot treatment on your body acne just as you would on your face.
As for hair products it really depends on what you like. I use Pantene, and then alternate between that and whatever I decided smelled good, usually Herbal Essences. The best way to avoid split ends and flyaways is to prevent them in the firs place: limit blow drying, get frequent trims, and use heat protection. It's all about moisture. Dry hair makes every imperfection obvious.
significant reduction in breakouts after a few weeks.
sorry but what does that mean?
sorry im dumb!
melissa!(: and thanks
It means that after about 21 days (ish) you'll notice that you're breaking out less. So like, right when you start using it you'll get less oil on your skin and the zits you have will dry out and possibly be less red too. It takes longer for long-term results to be seen.
My baby..well hes my nephew ( I proabably spelled that wronge) Is 18 months he should be talking full sentences right? He says a couple words: Cat, Ma ma, Da da, Ball, Rawr, Tickle, Boom, and Hello. There not so clear, but you know what hes saying. I try to teach him words and he just won't listen. So when do you think he should start speaking? He also ALL THE TIME SAYS ckkkdnfyw edbwh Like hes speaking spanish or smonething. Idk. HELP!
More than likely he is fine. Many kids in my family don't talk for a long time but otherwise develop normally. My baby (well more like almost two but she's a baby to me) cousin is months ahead in nearly every skill but says little more than babbles that might pass for mama and dada. If a doctor says the child is fine, they most likely are :)
By the way, my aunt first spoke this as her first coherent sentence:
"All clear on the right, Dad!" She was in the car with my grandparents and my grandma turns around, in shock, and says, "oh, you're talking now? Why not before?" My aunt then says, "I had nothing to say.." If a child is in an environment where every need is attended to, they may not make the effort to speak if they don't see the need :P

My son is three years old, and he is very interested in going to the "potty" he has been ready for this every since he was 18 months old, but he is our first child and neither me or my husband has even changed a diaper before him let alone potty train. We have asked many other parents what to do or if they had any tips, and most of them say "oh, just go with the flow." or "He will go on his own when he is ready." and "I dont know you just do it." Amazing even my mother cant explain to me how to potty train a child and she has done it 6 times. My husband and I are completely clueless. We feel like we are failing at this becuase we have no idea how to do this and he wants it really bad. So my question is, How do you potty train a child? Are there any tips to make it easier for him? Please help And thank you in Advance
Parenting books also contain useful advice on this and are often available at libraries. Unlike parenting itself, which most parents do by following instincts and learn through how their OWN parents and families raised kids, potty training is something we're often clueless about and it's normal! We are not inborn with this natural knowledge of how to get our offspring to sit on a big bowl and pee ;)
Anyway, what I've seen work in my family is incentives rather than a reward EVERY time the child uses the toilet. I, for example, refused to give up diapers until my mom picked out the cutest, softest underwear and showed me. Suddenly I wanted to wear princess underwear instead, and was told I couldn't until I learned to use the bathroom. My parents also bought my "big girl bed" and set it up in my room, again with the incentive to be trained. I was 100% trained before age three.
Patience is also important but that's sort of a given, haha. My cousin refused to do #2 in a toilet for whatever reason, so in that situation my cousin's father instituted a reward: three M&Ms each time. (My cousin already knew to eat candy in moderation and to brush his teeth, so tooth decay wasn't a problem there.) He then preferred 3 M&Ms to messy training pants so he soon used the toilet (almost) every time. :)
So rest assured, it can be done. You aren't failing and you sound like great parents; making the effort to come on here and ask for help says a lot :)

June 14th, when the second season of PLL started, I was away that night and couldn't watch the show. Since then, I've been forgetting to sit down and watch the second season every Tuesday. I tried searching online for all thee full episodes for free so I could catch up and watch it tonight on tv, but I'm having absolutely no luck.
Can anyone give me a website that you KNOW for certain the episodes are on? Season 2! Not 1!
Thank you!
Hulu.com
I always watch ABC Family on there and last week my friend watched a ton of new ones, so unless they got taken down they're on there. They even list original air dates!
