I came here to answer computer questions. (This used to say "...and nothing more.")

What I meant was, I don't know how much help I would be with other things... NOT that I would be upset if you asked a non computer question!

So my last relationship was crazy and I really liked this girl. She seemed to be completely truthful and honest. Her friends were not the best though and towards the end of my relationship it turned out that her friends led her to cheating on me with 3 different guys within one month. One of the guy's sisters was the one who finally told me the truth. So me and her had our long time dispute and I finally told her I regretted it all. I know you can say that it wasn't her fault, that her friends made her or talked her into it, but I'm pretty sure they didn't put a weapon up to her and forced her. She has a mind of her own and can decide herself. I thought she was different. Well after I told her I did not want to be friends anymore and that I no longer wanted to hear from me, she still texts me and tries calling me and keeps telling me how she misses me. I sang and recorded a song for her once and she says she has it as her ring tone. Sometimes i reply and ask her if its because she still has feelings for me but then thats when she goes on and tells me she doesnt feel anything for me and is glad she ripped my heart into pieces. Its so immature and confusing. I seriously dont want to deal with her anymore. I graduated and she was one year under. I havnt seen her since the day of the breakup, but im going back to the school with some friends soon just to see how my old teachers are doing and I know for sure that if she sees me shes going to try and talk to me. I seriously do not want to talk to her and have told her millions of times. How should i deal with the situation if she does come up to me or tries to say something to me? (link)
Hi there,

I have to second the idea that if you want this to stop, you can't answer some of her contacts with things that could be construed as encouraging.

If you want what you say you want, then state once, clearly, that you wish absolutely no contact with her.

I don't know how the laws are where you live, but here, and in most of the USA, if you tell someone to leave you alone and they will not, you can have them jailed for harassment.

I noticed another user mentioned she was allowed to do the things listed... well, not here she wouldn't be. The third unwanted contact you can prove has occurred since you requested an end to contact can land her in jail.

At the very least, you might contact an attorney and ask about getting a restraining order against her.

I hope she isn't the boil your bunny type (watch "Fatal Attraction" if you haven't) but if she is, you MUST not do that thing you have been doing where you respond and asks if she cares about you. That is as cruel to her, as what she responds with is to you.

Please remember: You both got to this stage. Now you both need to get away from this stage.

If you keep responding to her, you aren't walking away. In fact you are encouraging her.

Walk away.

If she refuses to leave you alone, then take measures to protect yourself.

Are you like 1 person? I saw how quick you were with me, or is it many people? You noticed my deleted q's and stuff. Are you the manager or something? With 1000's of people on this site, it'd be hard to believe that you're the only person running the site. And I see your e-mail thing. Wouldn't you get like a krap load of e-mails a day? (link)
Hi there,

Sometimes I am speedier than other times. I just happen to catch the abuse report about your deleted answers, then be there when you wrote your second question about site operations.

Yes, I own and operate the site. There are almost 70,000 users plus the anonymous users who number in the hundreds of thousands, so it can be a bit much to keep up with.

Fortunately, I have a few superheros that are kind enough to help administer the site. We call them moderators around here. If you would like to find out more about them, or becoming one yourself, please read the FAQ section here:

http://www.advicenators.com/faq.php?t=13

... as for my e-mail... at the moment I have over 140,000 unread e-mails in my gmail inbox. I fall further behind every day by just answering the most urgent ones. E-mail is obviously not the best way to reach me. :-)

Thank you for your interest in how the site works. Would be nice if more people were like you.

I received a message asking me why my answers were deleted. I know why they were. I'm just curious about who sent this message. Was it the people who asked the q's? or is it a staff person? or is it an automatic thing after a few deletes? (link)
I am sorry, I thought I signed the message.

I sent it in response to an abuse report someone filed. When people go to rate answers and there is just one word there, they wonder what happened. I believe the person thought the system ate the answer to her question.

All taken care of now. Please send any further site related queries to the admin account or this one. Thank you.

can you please remove your old responses? (link)
Please be more specific. Please send exact links to questions and state which responses you feel should be deleted and why.

Thank you.

I'm a 15 yr. old girl in the 9th grade. I'm naturally shy and socially awkward, but I have some friends that I really care about. Sometimes, it seems like my friends ditch me for their other friends or boyfriends and I end up being left alone. Or I feel like I care more than they do. I've tried making new friends, but that is too hard for me to do because I tend to emotionally shut down and push people away. I need help because I'm tired of being alone all the time. (link)
Hi there,

First things first: You are NOT alone.

At this stage in my life I am one of the most social and outgoing people you are ever likely to meet. You know that guy that walks into any room, any place, at any time and starts a dozen conversations one after another? That is me.

It wasn't always like that. When I was about your age I did pretty much what you describe as your situation now.

What happened? Well, frankly, part of it is just an awkward age that most people go through. This society, as it is today, has placed, through media, some fairly insane ideas into our heads about what we should be, and when we should be what is expected.

So what happened to me? How is it that I now have no problem standing up in front of an auditorium full of people and delivering a lecture? Someone gave me some exceptionally good advice... and I listened.

Now it is your turn. :-) I would type it all out here, but there is a MUCH more entertaining way to get the same advice.

Watch this fairly hilarious video:

http://www.bobparsons.me/video/219/why-never-sweat-others-think-about.html?isc=gdbb1437

... and do what it says.

As you watch it, you will agree with practically everything that is said and see it in your own life.

I can vouch for the fact that overcoming the initial fear that creates shyness is a very liberating experience. You will like it. In about 10 minutes, you will know how to do it. :-)

Have fun, and please feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

I turned on my laptop yesterday and a message came up saying it had a problem and it needed to do a system restore, but when it was trying to do it, it came up saying there was no recent restore point so it wouldn't do it. I've tried several times and still to no avail. I'm afraid that I am gonna lose all my music and pictures of my laptop. So my question is, "Is there any where I could send my laptop to so that they could get all my data back and put it onto a USB stick or DVD?" Is that possible? I don't mind about my laptop I just want my Data back. Thanks for the help :) (link)
Very frustrating when people who don't even know what the system restore function of Windows is answer questions like this one, isn't it?

Ok, yes, you can access your data. There are a few ways this can happen:

You can send it off to a data recovery house. This is very expensive.

You can get a local computer shop to do it for you. This carries the risk that they don't know what they are doing.

You can get the same shop to remove the drive from your laptop and install it into an external drive case. This will let you plug the drive into the USB port of another computer and read the data. You may then burn it to DVD, thumb drives or whatever.

The only caveat to this is if the drive is mechanically damaged. If so, what data you get back could be very limited. If this is the case, you don't want amateurs messing with the drive. Anything mission critical on there would really be best retrieved by a professional data recovery team.

If you can't find a trusted local computer person, I may be willing to help you with this when I have the time. I have been doing this for more than 25 years.

Send me an inbox message if it comes to that, and we can exchange contact info.

I have a 1994 mazda b2300 pickup and my check engin light came on and it has a misfier .so I had it put on the obd1 computer to have it checked out .the mechanic told me it was a bad coilpack so I replaced it and the problem didn't corect itself so I went back to him and he checked the coilpack again and t was only fiering on 2 cilenders .being it is a 4 cilender and has 8 plugs and 8 wires on it .iv changed the coilpack 3 times and still get misfire either on one cilender or 2 .I did a tune up on it last year so I don't believe its the plugs or wires .I think its the ignition control modual gone bad .does anyone know what the function of this modual does . (link)
The ignition control module is the item which controls when the coil-pack fires. It interfaces with the timing sensors on the engine.

I would change the module, but I would also be prepared to check whatever you have for a timing sensor. Probably a cam position sensor on that engine.

i used to talk to a guy. he's 17. Lets call him A. we've been talking for about 8 months (i know. way too long to be "talking") about 2 months ago were hanging out and one thing led to another, i lost my virginity to him. we we're really good; it seemed to have brought us closer. about a month ago he told me he loved me but i didn't say it back. he understood why i didn't say it. about a week ago I was talking to one of our mutual friends and she said that A has been telling her he's "done" with me for a while. A and i had plans that day too which i ended up canceling. he said he didn't care anymore. the next few days another one of our mutual friends (he's closer to me) was with me a lot at school. he's also 17. i'll call him B. every time i was with B, A would come NEAR us with a serious face and not say anything. A's also been coming too close to me. i was sitting down and he was literally over me reaching for something that was on the opposite side. he comes around me a lot but he doesn't talk to me. he talks to everyone around me while staring at me. I just realized how stupid he sounds haha. I'm not sure why he's acting like this when he supposedly told our friend he's done with me. I still have feelings for him but i'm not sure what to do. I still haven't confronted him about him saying he's "done" with me but i will. i don't think it has to due with sex because we rarely have it and there's A LOT of girls that are always trying to get with him. I need advice on what I should do? any ideas on what's going on with us or why he's acting this way? (link)
You know, you may be over-thinking this.

To me it sounds very simple:

He told you he loved you. You made it really obvious you don't love him, and at the same time started hanging out with another guy about which you admit: "(he's closer to me)" ...

Doesn't sound complicated at all. Kinda sounds like you broke his heart.

When you look at it like this, is it any wonder he is acting jealous?

He thought you two had something special. You rejected him, hardcore, which is why he probably said he was done with you for a while.

If you are doing any of this on purpose to hurt him, then I hope he done with you for good. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.

If you were just clueless and going around hurting people because you didn't know any better, then you need to sit down with him and tell him what happened from your point of view. Ask him what happened from where he sits, and see if you two have a future together.

Even if it was by accident, it is possible that after you rejected him when he told you he loved you, he will never take you back.

When a guy says that and means it, it is the most vulnerable he can be. If you reject it, it causes the most pain possible. Most guys who have a brain will NEVER give you a second chance... especially if you IMMEDIATELY start hanging out with another guy and tell the whole internet you are closer to the second guy.

As a thought: Did you ever think that maybe you and the second guy have a better future?

Don't hurt the first guy anymore than you already have unless you really did it by accident. If you really don't love him, let him go, and tell him the truth so he can find someone who actually cares about him.

Good luck!

Please consider re-submitting this, properly written.

The site does not allow chat-speak. It makes you look less intelligent. People then answer as if you were an idiot. That causes everyone hurt feelings... which is why we dont' allow chat-speak.

Please re-submit the question.

I need advice on what to do in my situation. One of my school loans automatically took my payment directly out of my account without me authorizing it causing my rent check to bounce. My landlord wants the money in cash by monday but i will not have it available to me until thursday. I have no one i can borrow from. I dont know what to do. Will i get evicted if i cant pay it until thursday? Help! (link)
Hi there,

I understand EXACTLY what you are going through, as I have been there myself, more than once.

The first thing to do in to explain as calmly as possible what is going on. If your landlord will not work with you, offer to pay a late fee on the rent. It will stink right now because that is more money out of pocket at the moment, but it will be cheaper than moving on zero notice.

If he refuses the late fee, then, from my experience, there is another reason that they want you out. Whenever a landlord refuses extra money, you better believe there is a reason. The odds are they were just waiting for a reason to try and get you out.

That only applies in the case of the refusing to even entertain the thought of a late fee.

As for being evicted... well, it completely depends on where you live. Each state has their own version of renter's rights. Some states require 30 days notice for eviction and some states only require 3 days.

Your landlord knows these laws. They are also counting on the fact that you do NOT know them.

I am not a lawyer, but if you ask me another question, and you tell me what city, county and state you live in, I will do a little research and see if I can find a legal aid group or renter's rights group that takes care of people in your area.

Most of these groups don't charge you any money.

Also, when you ask me another question, please provide an e-mail so I have a better way to reach you since you haven't created an account here yet.

I will do everything I can to help you.

its an HP laptop the first one that is priced at $379.99. Is it a fair price? it is the cheapest one so i think the price is reasonable. Does it have good quality? *****DOES IT HAVE A BUILT IN CAMERA AND MICROPHONE SO I CAN CHAT WITH FRIENDS?***** what are the pros and cons? thank you. here is the laptop details>>>>

Hi there,

The first link doesn't help. The second link is a link to the base configuration. This means the one without any bells and whistles. $379 is, at the moment, a very small amount to pay for a laptop. If you can pay $100 more, you can have your choice of several. You will even be able to buy at retail stores, which is something you want to do with laptops.

The laptop you listed doesn't come with a camera unless you add it. I believe that is $75 more, and then there are other things you will want to add, like more RAM. By the time you are done, you would have spent as much as one you could have looked at before you bought it.

As for the brand, I wouldn't bother with anything HP made anymore. They own Compaq, so this is basically the HP laptop with different stickers. :-(

They have the worst support I have ever dealt with. Ever. I have been doing this for a long time and HP is at the bottom of my list of people to buy from.

I like Acer laptops as well as Toshiba, Dell (some models) and Lenovo (used to be IBM.)

Acer and Toshiba both make laptops in your price range.

One cardinal rule of laptop ownership: If you can't afford the extended warranty, you can't afford the laptop.(TM)

This means you will need to have another $75-100 dollars for the extended warranty.

Take a trip to walmart, believe it or not, and see what they have that you like. Their extended warranty is both inexpensive and usually pretty good.

They also give you a 15 day no questions asked return allowance. I have taken brand new laptops out and had them malfunction in the first hour.

If you buy on-line and this happens, you can be weeks without your laptop depending on where you bought it.

With the local purchase, you can walk it right back in and trade for another.

Quick example of why you shouldn't give HP money: The HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop had a design flaw that caused the built in wireless card to fail. It would overheat and fry itself due to a lack of airflow around it.

For the longest time they said there was no issue. Then when they admitted it was a hardware problem, which took a long time, they would only fix it if it was under warranty.

The delay in taking responsibility made most every one of these fall out of warranty. Cute, huh?

So what did they do when they fixed it? They replaced the wireless card with the same thing and made no changes to the airflow. As you can guess, the replacement died too.

Eventually, they started taking them back to "fix" even if they were out of warranty, but there, to my knowledge, never was a REAL fix made. They figured you would get tired of sending your laptop back, and they were right.

Fortunately, wireless usb devices are small and inexpensive, or there would be a couple million paperweights out there.

I can't say it enough: HP's support is awful.

If you have any other questions after you go looking, please let me know.

Make sure you get the model numbers of the laptops you would like advice on.

Good luck!

Hi there,

This was asked twice. Here is the one that will be getting answers:

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=588863

First off I just want to say thank you so much for helping me with my previous dilemma and that what you said makes a lot of sense.
I just dont know what to do. I've told a couple of my other friends about it, they would know what to say/do. Well, actually just one friend, but I don't want to go back and erase that last sentence. So my friend said that it couldn't have been mike that blocked me, because he would never do that. He's seriously not that kind of guy. At all. I just really don't know what to do because no matter what, I feel that I'm going to ruin everything. Just tell me what I should do. I know, it's not your life, but... what would YOU do in this situation? (link)
Hi there,

When you ask a question referenceing a previous question, you need to place a link to the ear;ier question. I have no idea who you are or which question you are talking about. See how that could be a problem? :-)

Thanks.

Well, in my spare time I play Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition. I married Lumina and I asked Mr. Pots to have a girl, so it SHOULD be a girl, but some people say that Mr. Pots sometimes screws up and you still get a boy.

I'm sorry, but I really don't want to have a son named something like "Rose".. so any ways to know? I rarely play, so I don't have the patience to go back to chapter one and redo EVERYTHING down to wooing a wife to know I have a daughter.. (link)
Hate to tell you this, but you will have to wait and see. The jury is out on if you get the daughter when you ask for one, or not.

Here is a good list of answers from players like yourself:

"Hey, how come I asked to have a daughter then in the end I had a son, was it bugged? ... I married Lumina... can't we have a daughter?"

http://www.playstation2-cheats.co.uk/your_cheats/16445/239854/Harvest_Moon_A_Wonderful_Life_Special_Edition_cheats.html#qa

... I have found a more informative link to add here:

"Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition cheats, codes, hints, FAQs:"

http://www.gamewinners.com/playstation2/HarvestMoonAWonderfulLifeSpecialEdition.htm

Good luck! Let me know if feedback, when you find out if you ended up with a son or daughter.

I don't know why but i want a Verizon phone over and at&t phone. Can someone tell me why most people say Verizon's better? Or is it not? Are they equal? Bottom line, which one has better service? 'Cause I know they have the same features and similar phones. So can someone break it down for me, thanks. And for ever which service is better ( V or A) can you explain.Thank You. (link)
Where I am, Verizon is king.

It really does depend on where you live, or where you usually travel as to which is the best service. Coverage maps are your friend. :-)

Here is a new piece of news:

"Consumer Reports Cell-Service Ratings..."

Here is a one line excerpt to give you the idea:

"AT&T is the lowest-scoring cell-phone carrier in the U.S., according to a satisfaction survey of 58,000 ConsumerReports.org readers. Of all the carriers rated, AT&T was the only one to drop significantly in overall satisfaction."

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/111505/consumer-reports-cell-service-ratings-att-is-the-worst-carrier

... Verizon has problems also, so does every carrier, but if you believe Consumer Reports, the choice should be clear. :-)

I'm looking for a good reliable remote car starter that can be installed by a novice car person. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. (link)
Hi there,

For quality, it is hard to beat AstroStart:

http://www.astroflex.com/

... or Viper:

http://www.viper.com/

... both are products of Directed Electronics.

... BUT, I sincerely urge you to avoid doing this yourself.

A little background, if you don't mind: Once upon a time I had my own automotive electronics company specializing in installation of higher-end vehicle upgrades.

I have done quite a bit of automotive wiring in my time and consider myself qualified to install alarms, remote start systems, etc.

Please consider my history when I tell you this: People die from amateur do-it-yourself installations of remote vehicle starters. This isn't an internet rumor, this is fact.

Even if a person managed to get it installed without deploying the airbag and launching a tool through their chest... if all the sensors aren't accounted for, someone could be hurt or killed down the road.

You have to tie into the state of the transmission, so that it knows when it is in park. If this is done wrong, my goodness do you have trouble. You can blow all the electronics in the transmission. (Expensive!) If the connection fails, you can remote start the car and launch it whatever direction it is facing.

Most vehicles now have what is called a transponder key. It has a little chip in the key, that is coded to a special number which your car understands. When you install one of these systems, you have to install a bypass for this feature. If you didn't, then you would always have to leave the key in the ignition if you wanted to remote start your car.

There are three ways of doing this. One, captive key method, involves a special adapter that holds a duplicate of your key in a special box under the dash. When it is time to start your car remotely, this adapter relays your key's encoding signature to the sensor in the ignition lock area by way of a coil wire antenna.

If this is done poorly, you will have incredible trouble with your starting. When the problem develops, usually the car only starts at certain temps, and you have to completely disassemble the dash and the ignition lock area. This is something you don't even really want to do once, but if it has to be done twice, I promise you that whatever you paid someone else to do this will instantly feel like money well spent. :-)

If it is done by an amateur, who doesn't take good security precautions then you have another problem: All a thief has to do is look up under your dash, and they will find a nice little plastic box with a factory made key for your car.

They crack the box open, which doesn't usually even require a tool, and they use said key to steal your car.

There are an ocean of things to go wrong with this, and any one of them has the potential to cost you several thousand dollars.

I don't want to scare you off of doing your own work... just this one project.

Shop around for a place that has a proven track record, and will provide references. You want to SEE work that they have done. Most shops have a demo vehicle for just such a reason.

eHow has a nice article on choosing a shop to install your system:

"How to Buy a Remote Start System:"

http://www.ehow.com/how_11214_buy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-startbuy-remote-start.html

... This contains some excellent guidelines that will help you along the way.

A couple last bits of advice: If you ever intend to have an alarm system... get it as a combination with the remote start system. Combining security and remote starting saves a tremendous number of complications down the road.

Make sure that you buy a "two-way" system. This lets the started talk back to the remote. It will show things like if the car is actually running or not, and what the interior temperature is.

You can even remotely start and manage your car's functions from your Android device or iPhone if you pick the right models. :-)

If you have any related questions, Please feel free.
