I need an easy-to-make snack because Im very hungry and its only 2:30 and I eat dinner at 7! But, Im sort of trying to eat healthy. I had salad for lunch so i dont want that. But I was thinking possibly cheese and crackers? Please tell me some healthy choices that would fill me up!

No don't eat cheese and crackers because thats not dieting food.

Grab some baby carrots and celery and a tub of fat free cottage cheese. Put about half the tub in a blender and mix with your favorite flavored salad dressing powder until it is nice and creamy. Here you have an excellent fat free, high protein snack and the dressing could be used as a dip or a regular dressing. (Hey don't knock it until you've tried it :-) ) It really does taste like salad dressing.

Also, if you have a sweet tooth try putting a half a tub of cottage cheese in a blender with a packet of sugar free, fat free pudding mix and skim milk and blend until it is like pudding. The lactose takes care of the sugary taste it's high protein and theres no fat and it really does taste very good.

My friend got this brand new exercise machine (ab lounge?) and said she would be skinny by valentines day! I adore my friend and all, but I want to be skinner than her (selfish, but I want to be better at her in something!) My whole boddy is flab, so what is a way I can get skinny by v-day too? And how can I stick to whatever this is (btw I'm not extremely overweights, twenty pounds max, spread throughout body so its like five extra pounds everywhere). I'd love your help!! Thank you!!!

Sorry to burst your friend's bubble, but the Ab Lounge isn't going to make her skinny. In contrast to popular belief you cannot exercise an area and lose fat in it (Otherwise known as Spot Reduction). Diet is where everything is that. You can do 100000000 crunches a day, but without diet you aren't going to see any abs. Stay a step ahead of her and get your diet down to where it is clean. Cut the junk foods and soda and eating late at night, eat often and keep a healthy attitude. YOU are the boss of your body. We're a society that is used to fast results and fast everything. Unfortunately, fitness cannot be this way and you can't say "Iam going to be skinnier than her by V-day". Take your time at losing weight, use common sense when eating and keep a good attitude. (Remember- sour attitudes and stressing causes you to hold fluid under the skin and secrete Cortisol)

What's a good muscle relaxer liquid (you know, spread it on the stiff, sore muscle and the soreness goes away) that doesn't stink? I tried Tiger Baum and it worked wonderfully but it also smelled very strong and very bad.

Aspercreme odor-free is a pretty good analgesic. But analgesics are usually like cough syrup...the worse it tastes (or smells) the better it really works.

Mineral Ice and Icy-Hot are best IMO

Hey I'm 16 years old and a guy. I eat lunch at about 12.40, to get out of school at 2.40. I work out after school, mostly cardio workouts that go anywhere from 30-90 minutes. At lunch, there isn't always a variety to choose from, since it's the last one, and I usually get PB&J, but not by choice. I add a banana and some apple juice to keep things healthy, but that doesn't work for me. I either feel sick or too hungry when I work out after school. Any other foods or sandwhiches I should try? I'm not sure what to get to fill me up, not over fill me, but give me the energy I need for after school. Thanks - will rate.

Want honest advice? Don't eat sandwiches. Discover Tupperware and making your lunches and meals the night before. Apple juice isn't exactly healthy, it's just filled with sugar, drink water. Bananas are very good but have a lot of sugar in them also, but an excellent amount of potassium which is an electrolyte that is good for before you work out. Stick to a low GI carb and a good protein source (Chicken and rice, Tuna and rice something like that)

Occasionally you can sub this for a good protein drink. Whey protein powder, fat free milk, and Flaxseed oil, maybe a teaspoon or 2 of honey.

There is so much literature you can get on this topic if you are interested in that, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding is an EXCELLENT book.

Ok I am a 16/f I need to know how to lose a lot of weight. I weigh about 198 (I had a baby) and I am 5'6". What can I do to get down to about 130 lbs? Any advice? Things I can do in my living room or around my house? Please help! Like I also need it not to take like forever! HELP!

Exercise is not what leads to losing weight. DIET is what loses weight. So first you must get your diet in order and make sure you are eating enough during the day. (For you, I would try and get in at least 4 meals a day). A rule of thumb is that you should be losing 2 lbs per week, any weight over that is really just water weight...assuming it's 2 lbs of fat in the first place. Dips between chairs, Push-ups, weightless squats, crunches, find a strong tree limb outside and do chins, dream something you will enjoy up and do it religiously if you ABSOLUTELY cannot get to a gym, which is best. As far as running and walking go, our bodies burn the same amount of calories in distance whether we walk or run...around 100 calories per mile. The real difference is how fast those calories get burned, which of course is faster by running. So if you prefer to run, then do that or walk if you feel. Either way, 2 miles of running and 2 miles of walking is burning around the same amount of calories.

My problem is I'm too skinny.. And I go to school so it's not easy to go on one of those eat something every hour diets then weightlift later, I know that will work for arms, But what about legs? any suggestions? =[

Look here man...your body is one unit and must be evenly worked. Don't fall in that "Iam only going to work my upper body" crap. Get brave and do Squats, Chins, Deadlifts, Barbell Rows and Cleans and Presses, etc. You want to get big? Then you have to train like you really want it. Guess what? No more Cocoa Puffs at midnight or anytime, no more pizza every Friday. You're going to need to get 8-9 hours of sleep per night and be ready to eat massive amounts of food many times a day and train really hard 5-6 times a week. You still want to try and get big? Yes, you know you do :-)

I have a few questions, here. Thanks in advance!

I've tried eating fruits for a meal (Like apples), but minutes later, I'm hungry again! This doesn't make sense to me. Why does this happen?

Also, I don't like many veggies. Are there any vegetables that actually TASTE GOOD? I can't stand broccoli.

Last question! If you want to lose weight, is it REQUIRED to decrease the intake of carbs? I'm a very picky eater, and most of the food I eat has carbs.

The reason why you are hungry right after the fruit is because of the fructose content and its effects on your blood sugar. When we ingest a great amount of sugar there is an Insulin Spike which lasts a very short time and goes away very quickly. The digestion of carbohydrates (which fruit is a simple carbohydrate) begins in the mouth with amalayse in our siliva and ends in the stomach, so it doesn't give us that "Full" feeling. The reason why we feel fuller longer after having for example a burger is because the digestion of proteins doesn't begin until the food gets to the stomach and it ends in the intestines, leading us to a fuller feeling. If you must have a snack, I recommend cheese, beef jerky or another high protein snack to keep your blood sugar in check.

Losing weight requires more than just lowering carbs, but lowering calories all together. Remember there are 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs, but 9 calories per gram of fat. A good rule of thumb when determining calories is to multiply your bodyweight x 15 and subtracting 500 calories from this total. In order to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you take in. Keep your diet in a 40% protein, 40% carb and 20% fats ratio and know to eat more complex carbs earlier in the day (Potatos, pasta, oatmeal) and simple carbs later in the day.

Also, in my opinion Pineapple is the best fruit to eat. Pineapple contains a enzyme which helps to break down proteins in ways that other fruits don't. (Since all enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes.)

Is gatorade healthier/better than water?

NO there is nothing better for you in the world than water. Even if you are training and doing strenuous activity stick to water instead of that sugar filled water garbage. You will never see any serious bodybuilder or anyone who really knows how to stay fit ever drinking Gatorade when they are training or sitting around. Don't listen to the ads...just keep on drinking water.

I'm trying to eat healthy, and I wanted to know some foods you recommend for the following catagories that are healthy. Please be specific, I need all the guidelines I can get (and I am pairing it with exercise). Thank you!
Breakfast-
Lunch-
Snack-
Dinner-

Many people do not realize just how easy eating healthy can be and how good it can taste.

Here's a few ideas at making healthy meals and getting the most for your efforts:

-If you must eat bread NEVER have white enriched bread...Yea it says it's enriched (Really means enriched with sugar) Stick to 12 grain or TRUE whole wheat bread..not white bread dyed brown

- Do not cook with regular (Magic word- Enriched) white flour..instead use buckwheat flour or a cheaper alternative is to go make your own Oatflour (Just get regular oatmeal, place it in a blender and blend until its like flour). This will add dietary fiber and an excellent low Glycemic Index carbohydrate to your diet needs.

- Try to avoid frying. Grilling, steaming and poaching are best. If you must fry then I suggest frying in sesame, peanut or vegetable oil.

- DO NOT be afraid to eat and give your body calories, because after all..it's first priority is its energy needs.

- (For bodybuilders and those working towards gaining size) Have a slow burning Casein protein before going to sleep. Essentially, Casein is a slow burning protein which digests in roughly 7 hours in the body, unlike whey protein which digests in around 2 or 3 hours. Casein protein can be found in milk and other dairy products. My recommendation is a few tablespoons of fat free or 1% milkfat Cottage cheese before bed.

I'm a 19 year old female. I'm 5'3'' and weigh 135 pounds. Ever since I was 16 I've wanted to lose weight. I've been going to the gym at times 5-6 days a week for 3 months then I see no results AT ALL and stop going. I've been the same weight for 3-4 years. I've tried cutting back on calories but and it seems to be working well until night time. Then it is like I can't control myself and have to eat, if I see it I want it, if i know its in the cabinent I want it. I know I just need to tell myself no but has this happened to anyone else?!?! I restrick myself during the day but after dinner I lose it and undo my diet. I honestly need help...i was thinking of wearing a bracelet as a reminder to feel guilty or something when im bingeing

The reason why you are crashing on this diet at night is because you are keeping your blood sugar levels in check which control your hunger. This means you are not getting enough calories to begin with. Our bodies require a certain amount of calories each day just to function. This maintenance forumula can be calculated by multiplying your bodyweightx15. In order to gain weight, adding 500-700 calories to this total is ideal and the opposite is true while losing weight. You cannot eat like a bird while losing weight because then your body restricts what it has in the first place and holds subcanteous fluids underneath the skin. I would suggest getting in at least 4-5 SMALL meals a day spaced out in 3-4 hour increments so that blood sugar levels stay in check and your body does not crave salty and/or sugary snacks. "Telling yourself" to do it just isn't enough...you have to take the proper acts in your diet to prevent it because if your body craves it...It will get it. Remember- You're the guardian of your body, not it's prisoner.

Any idea how to get rid of a little unwanted body fat in the stomach? I've tried crunches and everything but no results. Anything would be helpful. NOT pills though.

The reason why crunches and all other exercises you have done hasn't worked is because there is no such thing as "Spot Reduction" or exercising an area and losing fat in it. The main factor which determines our definition is our diet. Don't read those meatheaded magazines or FDA advice columns. Certain non stimulant pills maybe be beneficial such as Tonalin CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) which is an essential fatty acid. Get your diet clean before anything because it is what determines any results that we see in our bodies. Let me also clear up another stupid myth that regular crunches only work your upper abdominals. They don't, they contract the entire abdominal region as one. Also leg raises and sit-ups are NOT "Ab specific" exercises but rather train the hip flexor muscles. Remember- No Pain, No Gain and Remain the Same.
