Food questions

Question Posted Thursday December 22 2005, 10:23 pm

I have a few questions, here. Thanks in advance!

I've tried eating fruits for a meal (Like apples), but minutes later, I'm hungry again! This doesn't make sense to me. Why does this happen?

Also, I don't like many veggies. Are there any vegetables that actually TASTE GOOD? I can't stand broccoli.

Last question! If you want to lose weight, is it REQUIRED to decrease the intake of carbs? I'm a very picky eater, and most of the food I eat has carbs.

some fruits and vegetables are negative calories. meaning the calories in the apple or whatever are all burned off by the time you have digested.
try eating some veggies with something else. like celery or carrots and ranch dressing or broccoli or cauliflower with cheese sauce. or salad with different types of dressings and toppings like cheese or meats.
its not required to decrease the carbs to loose weight, you just need to eat healthy meals and not eat alot of sugars or fats. :)

The reason why you are hungry right after the fruit is because of the fructose content and its effects on your blood sugar. When we ingest a great amount of sugar there is an Insulin Spike which lasts a very short time and goes away very quickly. The digestion of carbohydrates (which fruit is a simple carbohydrate) begins in the mouth with amalayse in our siliva and ends in the stomach, so it doesn't give us that "Full" feeling. The reason why we feel fuller longer after having for example a burger is because the digestion of proteins doesn't begin until the food gets to the stomach and it ends in the intestines, leading us to a fuller feeling. If you must have a snack, I recommend cheese, beef jerky or another high protein snack to keep your blood sugar in check.

Losing weight requires more than just lowering carbs, but lowering calories all together. Remember there are 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs, but 9 calories per gram of fat. A good rule of thumb when determining calories is to multiply your bodyweight x 15 and subtracting 500 calories from this total. In order to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you take in. Keep your diet in a 40% protein, 40% carb and 20% fats ratio and know to eat more complex carbs earlier in the day (Potatos, pasta, oatmeal) and simple carbs later in the day.

Also, in my opinion Pineapple is the best fruit to eat. Pineapple contains a enzyme which helps to break down proteins in ways that other fruits don't. (Since all enzymes are proteins, but not all proteins are enzymes.)

about the fruit thing :
fruit is made mostly of water. that's why you are hungry again. so when you have an apple, have something else like a cracker. or yogurt.

veggies that taste good:
i love salad. cucumbers, red pepers (like not the really hot ones) carrots and ranch dressing. snap peas and ranch dressing.

i do not believe that it is required. but i think it does help. if you are wanting to lose weigh just watch what you eat and eat porportions.

fruit wont hold you over long, and its also a carb

some good ways to eat vegetables are with balsamic vinegar, soy powder, or lemon juice or salt. these are all fat free.

lastly, you should decrease your carbs, but still eat some or you will get headaches.

good luck!

The apple may not be enough for your body. Try eating some cheese with the apple. The protein in the cheese will help stabilize your blood sugar keeping it from dropping and making you hungry again in a few minutes. Another option is eating a fruit salad. That gives you the health benefits of eating fruit but at a larger serving that's more filling.

I also can't stand vegetables. The ones I do like are corn, peas and carrots. Have you tried a salad to get your veggies? Another option is to try preparing the veggies in a different way. For example, I hate zucchini, but love zucchini bread. With a little experimentation, you may find a way that you like your veggies.

The low-carb diet is one of the many diets out there today. It varies by person whether it will work or not. Since you like carbs, I think the best thing for you would be to balance your diet, making sure to include meat, fruits and veggies. Another thing to watch is serving size. We tend to eat more than what is actually considered a serving. A serving of fruit or veggies should be about the size of your fist. A serving of pasta is about the size of a scoop of ice cream. A serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards. A serving of cheese is about the size of your thumb.

-Maybe instead of just an apple, you could have a little fruitbowl instead. Their awesomeo

-for veggies try: potatoes, corn, and then theres carrots with ranch dressing :) thats really good but with cold carrots and maybe a reduced fat/calorie dressing though.

-The whole carb thing is so overrated :) aha. Carbs give you energy, it really just matters about your portions. Do not eat large amounts at a time or amounts of really unhealthy food like cookies, yes i know very tragic indeed.

-I would also suggest you drinking lots of water, or to help with the energy maybe gatorade or powerade. which ever you prefer.

:) HOPE I HELPED

Carbs is just the latest buzz diet. Carbs is part of the equation, but the bigger equation is input and output. Eat a balanced diet and you'll be fine.

I could never take to vegetables. Yet, I love brussel sprouts. Try mixing veggies in with other dishes. Randomly putting corn or peas in with rice.

Apples don't have much to them. You can try tricking your body by drinking a lot of water, thus making yourself "feel" full. I'm sure there's another way, but that's the first thing that comes to mind.
