advice

i'm getting my wisdom teeth removed in like 2 weeks and i'm really nervous....how bad is the procedure? thanks.

:)

I agree with YG. In my case it was nowhere near as bad is its reputation. Everyone told me it was going to be sooo terrible, but in the end it was not that big a deal.

The procedure itself was not really painful. I elected not to be put to sleep and did it with local anesthetic. The only down side to that is that you could hear everything going on in my mouth (and there were all sorts of nasty sounds lol). But no pain that I remember.

All in all, no need to be nervous. You will have a few days of discomfort most likely.

Good luck

I have a friend who I shall call Jon. I really REALLY like him, despite my constant reasoning that I don't want to like him. I am in the process of eliminatining my reasoning to embrace my affection. I want to know if there's any way to fall OUT of love with him, or a really good way to make him love me back. I have a lot of pride (not vanity, there's a difference, it's the fact that pride is what you think of yourself, and vanity is what you want others to think of you) and don't often fall so far for someone. I keep thinking that if I ignore how I feel, it'll go away, but it doesn't seem to work. Any help?

ygsgirl's answer is spot on. You cannot simply fall out of love, you can only wait for the feelings to fade away.

The only thing you can do is to create an environment that makes it easier for you to move on. I can say from personal experience, that it is considerable harder to have the feelings go away if one keeps in close contact to the person in question. Now, I have no idea if the two of you go to the same school or whatever, but you need to minimise the times you have to see and talk to him.

Another thing, as mentioned in the answer below, is to meet and socialise with other boys. The more you can distance yourself from this guy, and the more you expose yourself to the possibility of meeting someone else, the quicker its going to be.

Overcoming a strong feeling, particularly a powerful one like love, is very difficult. However, it is most certainly not impossible despite the fact that it may seem that way now.

Good luck.

Ok, so a while ago I put WoW (World of Warcraft) on my laptop, and for a while now while I'm moving, my screen will go black. I think it is because of not having that much computer memory. I have used 100 GB out of 147 GB. Is that a lot used? And I've been trying to delete some stuff so that I can have more memory...but even though I delete some stuff, it is still not working that well...what all should I delete to make the screen stop turning black? Or what else should I do?

Thanks a bunch!

I am sure that some more computer literate people will offer their opinions on this one. However, this problem should not orginate from a lack of hard-disk memory. Even a lack of ram should not make the game crash assuming that you have the minimum requirements.

I would guess that this is more likely a video card and/ or driver issue. Have you tried updating the drivers on your graphics card for example? Check also that the specs on your labtop fit with the requirements of the game (type of graphics card, ram, processor, direct x version, etc).

how can people honestly drink beer? it tastes so bad. i dont think the high would be worth it.

Well, its all a matter of taste. I for one cant stand coffee. I could never drink it myself. I suppose both are an acquired taste, but some people (myself included) do genuinely like the taste of beer.

I also know a number of people who regularly drink non alcoholic beer... thats almost the same taste with no high whatsoever. So, one cant even accuse them of pretending to like it :)

In the end I suppose we could all make a list of things we hate that others seem to like. I know mine would be quite long...

have you been to washington dc? is it pretty there? well i have to write a letter about why do i wanna go there? and i cant think ... judges are gonna jusde my leeter and think if its good enough asnd if it is ill be going on a 5 day trip there with my classmates.. please help the 5 paragraopph essauy is due tomorrow

my questions:

What are impressive comments i can say?
What should i say to get pixcked?
etc
Thanks

Hey there. I may not be from the US, but I have had the pleasure of living in DC for some years. The things I can think of that might be relevant to your question are:
- It is an impressive town, with numerous monuments, museums, and state buildings. Architecturally it is very varied and I think it really stands out, with buildings like the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol, the White House, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Pentagon etc.
- It is the centre of US politics. The Senate and House of Representatives meet in the Capitol.
- There are many very important museums and memorials such as the Smithsonian, National Art Gallery, Vietnam Memorial etc.

For more facts and figures check out the wikipedia article.

In many ways one could regard DC as the heart of the US. It is one of the most important sites from a political, historical and cultural point of view.

To get picked I would try to explain why you would consider it important to go on this trip. Apart from cold facts regarding buildings and politics, I think the key would be to explain how the experience might affect you as a person, and to describe why this journey might be educational.

Good luck.

hi i'm really thankful for your answer,do you have a sample schedule i could use?

the thing is i eat like 3 times a day, maybe like 10 in the morning.2 in the afternoon and like 8 at night.

i eat bread with peanut butter and jam, cereal and milk for breakfast, either of the two in variation

i eat fish,rice,veggies,chicken,pasta,orange juice,potatoes,for lunch,in variation

and about the same for dinner, again in variation

the thing is i eat like quite more than i used to nowadays, and yeah i don't seem to be putting on weight, even my guy doesn't seem to be putting on weight

for exercise,i usually exericies like twice a week which takes form in sit ups, push ups and hiking,is hiking bad since it will burn my calories?

could you maybe recommends different eating hours, and like different meal sets?

and i'm interested in the sample workout, thanks a lot,you are the best.

Hey there. Lets start with the meal plan. First off I would add a meal at around 5 pm and another at around 11 pm (I assume you are still up then since breakfast is at 10).

What you eat sounds decent. You can always vary with other types of lean meats and poultry, as well as other kinds of carbs. Consider oats for breakfast (they are really good for you), also eating whole wheat bread instead of regular bread, and also adding in an egg or two here and there. As a base however, what you are doing sounds ok.

The 5pm meal can really be very much like lunch or dinner, i.e. some combination of a good protein source, a good carb source, and a little bit of good fat. Which actually reminds me, remember to add some non saturated fat to your diet (particularly when you dont eat fish). A little olive oil, canola, flax seeds or oil, or any variety of nuts (unsalted) are very good for you in small quantities.

The late night meal should be a little bit lower on carbs. A typical bodybuilder late night meal might be something like cottage cheese, a few unsalted nuts, and an apple. Lean meats also work, just cut the carbs a little before bedtime.

Now, onto the workouts. Doing hiking is ok providing that you eat to compensate for the calories that you burn. I would never completely cut out cardio since it has some very valuable health benefits.

Here is a sample full body weight liftin workout:

Day 1:
Squats 2 or 3x 8- 12
Romanian deadlifts or leg curls 2 or 3x 8- 12
Incline dumbbell press 2 or 3x 8- 12
Upright row 2 or 3x 8- 12
Dumbbell rows 2 or 3x 8- 12
Hammer curls 2x 8- 12
Narrow grip bench press 2x 8- 12

Day 2:
Deadlifts 2 or 3x 8- 12
Bench Press 2 or 3x 8- 12
Military Press 2 or 3x 8- 12
Pull ups or pull downs 2 or 3x 8- 12
Barbell curls 2x 8- 12
Skull crushers 2x 8- 12

For the first couple of months it should be fairly light and so none of the sets should be to failure (i.e. stop each set while you still can do two reps or so). This is to minimise the risk of injury.

This kind of routine is usually done 3 times a week (e.g. Monday, Wednesday, Friday). One just alternates between day 1 and 2. I have also seen decent results from just two times a week, e.g. Mon, Fri (in which case 3 sets on all exercises is probably better).

Add cardio and ab workouts on non lifting days as you see fit. Keep at least 1 rest day per week.

While exercises can be changed, the important thing I have done with this workout is to generally focus on free weight compound lifts. Compound exercises use multiple joints, and hence different muscle groups. The body seems to respond much better to these kinds of exercises.

Here is a site that has descriptions of exercises:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm

Most, if not all, the things I mentioned should be here.

Well thats pretty much it. Remember to give it some time. Workout results will come soon enough, but do not appear overnight. Also, as I mentioned before, if you do start to lift, you need loads of sleep.

Good luck

ok basically,i'm too thin right now and i need to build up more meat on my body and arms and such

the thing is when i eat none of the meat seems to be goin to my arms or body and only my stomach, what should i do to or eat to make my body mass bigger as an overall?

like how many times a day, what time, what food, any extra stuff?

Weight training is the answer for you. You need to start a good solid bulking program.

So, start going to the gym. As an intro a full body workout done three times a week should be quite good. For optimal mass and strength gain focus on big compound moves (e.g. squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press, etc). Thats the ticket also to functional strength, i.e. strength you can really use for something.

Now I could make you a sample program or link you to one if you like. If so, just drop a note in my inbox.

Onto food. Needless to say you need a calorie surplus. With weight lifting that means that more of it will go into the areas you want (without it the body stores it as fat and for men thats most often the gut). However, in order to minimise the amount turned into fat you still need to eat fairly clean.

So, eat frequently, about every 3 hours or so. Each time eat a balanced meal containing a fair amount of protein and carbs, and a small amount of non saturated fat.

Things like tuna, chicken, turkey, lean meats, eggs (in moderation), whole wheat bread, rice, pasta, oats, grains, vegetables, fruit, etc, are great. Essential fats from fish, nuts, and good oils must also be taken daily.

Bulking is not a liscence to pig out on chips, soda and pizza for example.

Also supplement with protein shakes after workouts (whey in water is best) and take a good daily vitamin pill.

Finally you also need plenty of rest since that is when you actually grow, not at the gym. You should have more than 8 hours of sleep every night.

That should pretty much cover it.

Good luck.

What's the best way to quickly lose about 15-25 pounds? (by November) I can't afford anything like Slimfast but I need to lose this weight for something important. (Not just a stupid school dance or something, trust me it's importnat) I'm fine with gaining the weight back, I just need to lose it now.

Well I wont give you advice on how to lose weight in an unhealthy way, even if you are willing to gain it back. Part of the reason is that quick methods often digest your muscle, so you end up looking worse than you should. However, with proper discipline, you can lose up to 2 pounds a week or so. That will bring you close at least (on target if its the end of November).

Here are some diet tips:

- Eat frequent balanced meals, about 4- 6 a day, generally eating every 3- 4 hours. Divide your calories almost evenly across these meals, eating somewhat larger meals before periods of activity and somewhat smaller meals afterwards.

- Drink plenty of water

- Keep carb portions moderate, minimise saturated fats, usually found in most animal products (such as fatty meats and cheeses), cheap oils, junk foods, etc. Eat a small amount of essential fatty acids with each meal (found in fish, nuts, good oils like olive and canola, etc.)

- Examples of balanced meals include: 1. skinless chicken breast or skinless turkey breast or tuna or lean beef, 75 grams of rice or a potato or 50g pasta, and a small salad with olive oil 2. 200 grams of cottage cheese, an apple, and a small handful of unsalted nuts 3 A whole egg and two egg whites (scrambled for example), a slice of whole wheat bread and some veggies 4. oats in skim milk and a few unsalted nuts.

- Avoid processed foods. Focus on wholesome foods and fresh vegetables and fruit.

- Avoid empty calories from junk foods, things that have sugar added to them, etc. Read the labels.

- Eat a few hundred calories less than you burn. In practical terms this should leave you a little bit hungry during the day. You should never be really hungry or starving.

Now onto exercise.

I dont know what you do now, but you need to work in regular cardio. If you have the discipline the most effective thing is to do the cardio in the morning before breakfast. Later is fine too, but this is the most effective.

Work in say 20- 30 minutes of steady cardio workouts every second day. This can be more frequent, but it depends on your fitness level and whatever else that you do (e.g. other gym workouts, sports etc). Good cardio workouts include stair machines, jogging, biking, some sports (the kind where you have to keep running, like soccer for example), etc.

You can also supplement with some resistance training (e.g. weights) if you have the time. This will help minimise the amount of muscle lost and it has a positive effect on the metabolism.

Whatever you do however, for the next few months cardio is a must if you want optimal results.

Well, thats more or less it.

Good luck.

I'm 16/f. I get angry very very easily about the tiniest of things.
A guy friend of mine has a habit of vandalising peoples things as a joke when they leave there desk. I knew he would look through my wallet of take something as a joke when I went to leave the room so I took it with me.
Anyway, when I came back I found he had drawn all over my school diary. It made me really angry. Another close guy friend of mine was sitting between us two. He said I looked like I was going to kill him. Anyway I took a sharp compass out of my pencil case and pretended to whipser into the ear of the guy who was sitting next to me. The other boy who drew on my stuff leaned over to lister and as he did so I violently lunged at him and stabbed him with the compass. He bled for about half an hour and he was in a lot of pain. Whenever I get really angry I have fantasies about stabbing the person who did it to me and I have a history of self-cutting. Today when I stabbed that boy I felt so good. it was one of the best feelings I've ever had. It released all my anger and hate and the boy is now incredibly scared of me. Is this normal? I don't think it is. And now that I have had a taste of stabbing someone I want to keep doing it and I don't think I can stop.
=| Should I be worried?
Help??

No this is not normal. I would seriously advise that you get yourself some professional help. This is for your own good, as well as the people around you. Do it before you either end up seriously injuring/ killing someone (and ending up in jail for it), or before you meet someone who will actually retaliate.

do you think 5'8" 100 pound and a cup is sexy?? what about waves vs. straight hair

I agree, sounds way too skinny for that height. As for part 2, its no big deal but I would choose waves over straight.

yeal im one of those weird chics who likes metal cauz i used to be goth andi never got over it.....

i also like country cauz im from hickville and everyone here likes country! but the problem is i usually lisen to the radio so i dont know many of country bands or metal bands so if you know any GOOD SOUNDIN counrty or metal band names it would really help.....

It would have helped if you had specified which kinds of metal you like. I will give you some bands, generally the really classic ones (the "musts" within the genres). I will focus on the genres that I know something about. Here are some suggestions within a few categories:

Heavy metal: Iron Maiden (my fav), Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Motorhead

Power Metal: Manowar (love or hate type band... I think they rock), Helloween, Metal Church, Sonata Arctica

Thrash Metal: Metallica (80's material), Slayer (80's and some 90's material), Megadeth, Testament

Symphonic, Goth, and/or Black: Nightwish (highly recommended), Merciful Fate, Bathory, Type O Negative, Cradle of Filth

There are also some highly popular bands within genres like Industrial, Progressive, and Groove metal (bands like Rammstein, Dream Theater, and Pantera respectively). Dont know if its your cup of tea, it isnt mine.

One of the easiest things is to check out a few videos of these bands on youtube. Its easy to spot new bands too by following some of the suggested links. Also wikipedia has a whole article on metal subgenres if you need more names of bands etc.

Happy listening.

so will walking an hour a day and eating healthier and drinking water and only water help me lose weight like by doing that and not to mention walking around school and stuff will thathelp me lose weight pretty fast and how much weight do you think i could lose in 5 weeksof doing this

I agree with S_C. 10 pounds is a high but realistic target.

Just wanted to add though, that if you are going to put in the effort to work out every day (remember to take a rest day every week), why not go for some kind of exercise that will have a positive impact on your heart. If you could change the walking for an hour to, for example, jogging for 20- 30 minutes, it would not only help you lose weight, but you would reap more cardiovascular benefits. Thats because walking does not elevate your heart rate into the optimal training zone.

Just a suggestion. Of course any exercise is better than no exercise, and I hope you stick to your plan. Apart from the food groups advice, remember also that its best if you manage to eat many small meals every day. Eating a small balanced meal every 3-4 hours will help keep your metabolism going during the weight loss period.

Good luck.

I had my frist blackout from drinking this past weekend. What does this really suggest?

Lately, I can't ear right, sleep right, I can't concentrate in school, and I don't know. I've changed in a lazy sense of way..
Everyone was telling me about what happened...and I just don't remember it for the life of me. What's happening to me? I've NEVER blacked out before.

The likelihood to suffer a blackout varies a lot from person to person. The extent of the blackout also varies. You very likely have experienced a partial blackout before this incident (almost all drinkers have), where a small part of the evening is forgotten, maybe a part of a conversation or something like that.

As far as I know blackouts should be considered a warning. Now, I dont know how old you are (school could be anything from elementary to university), but you should seriously consider stopping or at least cutting down. Particularly if you are still a teenager, since the brain is still developing substantially during that period.

If you are experiencing problems with your health, as you imply above, then see a doctor. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs out there (it beats most illegal narcotics). Excessive drinking could have all sorts of negative effects on any number of your organs. That being said it could also be something unrelated, or something much less serious, but you should consult someone if this persists.

Good luck.

I'm definatly not overweight, but my calfes are huge! well they are really muscular from doing ballet for 9 years. Does anyone know a way to lose a little muscle in my calfes and a little in my thighs?? PLEASE don't say, "u should be happy that your muscular" or w.e. I like a little muscles, it just looks like too much. THANKS!!!!

To the best of my knowledge, the only way to lose muscle is to 1. Not use it, and 2. Eat poorly. There are big problems with both options however.

Option 1 is pretty straight forward. If your muscles are not used, then gradually they will shrink.

Option 2 is somewhat similar. If your body does not get the nutrients it needs, it will digest your muscle.

The problem with both of them is that you dont want to become an unhealthy couch potato, just to satisfy your desire to look prettier. Particularly not at the age of 13 when you are still growing.

The same applies for option 2. You dont want to undernourish yourself for the same reason.

Also, with both options but particularly option 2, you will lose muscle from other parts of the body as well.

To me, there is no good way to go about this. The best thing I could suggest is to pick a form of exercise that is less calf intensive and go with that (maybe biking). The changes will be very slow though, and may not happen if you have a genetic tendency towards big calves.

Good luck.

okay!! well right now im at home its 8:24 at night
IM SO HUNGRy!!! well i exersice alot and im trying to lose wieght but i get so hungry i dont wanna go eat anything right now im so in the mood for chocalate but iduno somone help me quick im starving
what do i do?/
what should i eat?
thannks
btw
i heard its bad to eat at night
thats why i told u the time!!

Its not bad to eat at night. Your body needs nutrients all day long, even while you sleep. Its a question of what you should eat.

Thing is, you should never really be going around feeling really really hungry. Thats usually a sign you arent getting what you need, and it usually backfires with excessive eating, and particularly of excessive carb eating (which is what you are craving). It also leads your body to digest the wrong things (i.e. your muscles).

So, go eat. Just keep the carbs low, and make the meal fairly protein rich. Good suggestions include cottage cheese, lean meats of all sorts, tuna, etc. Supplement with a few vegetables and also a little good fat from a good oil or some unsalted nuts.

Remember you should have a small balanced meal every 3- 4 hours during the day. It keeps your metabolism going, keeps you well nourished, and it will help you lose weight.

Good luck

This question is just to get opinions:
If someone you knew told you that they cut themselves, what would your first reaction be? Would you think they were crazy, would you try to help them, would you be scared of them, or what?

I would try to help them. Since I am not qualified to do anything myself, I would let someone know who is in a position to intervene (e.g. a parent, teacher, counselor, etc).

can you die from swallowing a condom? my girlfrnd and I had this conversation and i searched the internet (google) and came up dry can u help??

-Will

Sorry, I dont know the answer to this. I suspect that swallowing one should not be lethal. It might cause complications in the digestive tract and one may well require medical help, but I would be very surprised if one was likely to die from it.

This is just speculation though, so dont quote me on anything :)

You cannot lose more than a few pounds in the time you mentioned. Just so you know. If you do try to lose more, it will be almost entirely muscle and water loss... i.e. not what you want.

Try to get your cardio workouts up to 20 minutes or so. If you want to incororate some other types of workouts, then make them as full body as possible. What i mean is, focusing on sit ups and crunches only has very little effect (since you cant target fat loss). Instead you are better off training your whole body. Home ideas include things like squats, lunges, push ups, pull ups, etc.

As always, diet is key. So, eat clean, focus on healthy foods like chicken, turkey, tuna, lean meats. Eat carbs moderately and stick to healthy choices like rice, oats, whole wheat bread, etc. Remember to have a small amount of "good" fat daily (from fish, nuts, olive oil, canola, flax, etc) and as little as possible saturated fat (generally found in animal products- e.g. fatty meats, most cheeses, butter, etc.- cheap oils, junk foods, and so on).

Remember effective weight loss revolves around changing bad habits for the long term. Short term rapid fire solutions almost always fail and the weight is regained. So, take it easy, eat smart and exercise carefully.

Good luck.

Anyone know how many cruches where ment to do a day ?

and how can i get thinner thighs
(dont sAY GO BIKE RIDING PLEASE!)
and no pilates

On the weight loss advice kc pretty much got it right. Its all in diet and cardio, since you cannot target fat loss through exercise. You need a negative calorie balance to lose weight, there is no way around that, and no way to lose weight from just one area. Any cardio is great (running, stair machine, swimming, ahem... biking, etc.), but if you dont eat right you wont lose weight.

As for crunches (which strengthen the abdominal area not slim it down), you should not really do them every day. They are like every other muscle, and require time to recuperate. Depending on what else you do (since many things overlap), I would say every second day. As for how many, that depends on what you are able to do. You dont have to go to failure every time, just do enough so that your muscles feel tired.
