My name is Laura and I'm 28 years old. I live in Illinois and work as a licensed veterinary technician. I am a runner, bookworm and obviously, an animal lover.I've been on this site since '05. I take hiatuses, but I'm never gone for good. I enjoy giving advice and I've made such lovely friends on this site that I couldn't imagine giving it up!
chat it up yo.
ps. here's my bestestestest friend.
I love him. You will too :)
advice
my bf and i just had a reaaaaaaaaally rough breakup. we havent spoken in about a week 1/2, and earlier i tried to IM him, making peace, i guess. and he never responded.
i know we probably wont get back together, but i couldnt stand it if we werent at least friends. how long should i give it before i just give up? i dont want to, but i know eventually ill have to. he doesnt seem to have any interest to even talk to me. not even through a computer. what should i do?
You have 2 options:
1. Forget about him.
2 Give him time to get over it.
With the first, just move on. If he's treating you like crap, then he's not worth your time anymore anyways. I know that moving on from somebody is one of the hardest things to do at a young age, but sometimes it's the best.
With the second, just stay away from him for a while. Don't call him, Facebook him, or anything for a few weeks/months. Just leave him alone and give him time to get over the break up (because guys need time to get over it, too!) I did this with my last ex, and now after a few months, we're finally on good terms again.
Now, I don't know why you broke up or how bad it really is, but those are the 2 major options I think you have in this situation. Which one you choose is up to you.

Hello.
There is this boy who I've been talking to for about a month or so.He seemed really interested in me and would text and talk to me ALOT.I mean like we'd be texting for like 12 hours.I went on a trip for about 2 weeks and he texted me every single day and i was excited to see him when I got back. When I got back,we talked and hungout and whatnot. He seemed like he liked me.Until recently when he started hanging out with me and my friends as well he told me that he only wanted to be friends and that it would be awkward if we were any more than friends around "everyone else". I think that he just got so comfortable in my group of friends that he started seeing me like a friend! He stopped talking to me as much and began treating me differently(like a friend).
I want to get back to what we were at! Can I get out of the friend zone?
Thank you!
If he doesn't want to be more than friends, don't pressure him. Don't force him into a relationship or anything that he does not want right now.
The only advice I can give you, is to try talking to him about it (preferably face to face). Let him know that you really like him, and you don't want things to be awkward. Talk to him and then give him some time. Don't ask to hang out every day, and don't text him every second of every day. Back off a little, because sometimes you need to step back in order to go forward.
After that, try flirting a little to see how he reacts. Take it SLOW. Do subtle things, like smile at him, compliment him, and text him good morning texts. The main thing, though, is to take it SLOW and give him TIME.
Do that and you should be fine :)

I have this wart on my hand and its been there for a few years but I just don't seem to know how to remove it..how do you remove warts?
Duct Tape. I'm not kidding.
I had warts on my feet a few years ago and NO product worked. So, I read online to try duct tape and it worked.
You just cover the area completely and DON'T take the tape off until absolutely necessary.

There's a girl and we've been friends for about 6 months now, and recently we've been talking a lot, like every day, and I'm starting to have some pretty strong feelings for her. I'm just not sure the best way to tell her. I also have a little time, she's 4 hours away now but goes back to school in 6 weeks, which is less than an hour away. But she is sending me some pretty strong signals that she likes me too. Anyway, I've just never really had that conversation with a friend before and not exactly sure the best way to do it. What is the best way to tell her how I feel/ask if she feels the same way? Specifics would be helpful, thanks!
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=532578
If you read that, and really do believe that she DOES like you, TELL HER!
There are 2 major options you can go about to solve this problem:
1. Be blunt about it.
2. Be shy about it.
I highly suggest being blunt about it, and either asking her if she's into you too, or simply asking her out yourself. Girls like when guys show confidence, and there's no better way to show you're confident than walking up to a girl and asking her out!
Or, you can go the other route and be shy about it, possibly doing nothing to show her you're interested in her. Sometimes, people who use this method drop subtle hints such as smiling [which is common i and doesn't always show you're into a person] or having a friend ask if she's into you [this only shows that you're too shy to do it yourself]. This option is really kind of stupid, and is used all too much...
As I always say:
Life is WAY too short to not take chances and risks once in a while. Why sit around wondering what could've been, what would've been and what should've been, when you can answer all of those questions and then some by being honest and telling a girl how you really feel about her?
As far as the long distance thing goes, go for it. My boyfriend lives 24 hours away, and getting together is the best recent decision I have made.
Good luck!

hey ... so i am 14 & i just got my period and i DO NOT WANNA TELL MY MOM! but i only have enough pads and stuff to last me maybey 2 days and i am gonna have to tell her if i want to be able to buy more!?? sooo what do i do? because if i tell her she wil laugh and tell my sister. and if my sister finds out she will tell the WORLD !! sooo embarressing. and i also wanna know what am i supposed to do? am i supposed to wear a pad all day? change it? tampon vs. pad??? HELP PLEASE!
Tell your mom. She went through it, your sister went (or will go) through it.
I would suggest using pads because it's your first time. You are supposed to change it every few hours. Just relax and stay calm, every girl gets her period; it's nothing to be upset about :)
-Laura (17-f)

For 5 days now i have cried every night for no reason, and i have got talor swift stuck in my head!! From there:
I have found, firsthand, that the best way to get over a guy is to do the following:
Step 1: Have a really good cry.
- When my boyfriend and I broke up, I was super upset (like words cannot describe how bad I felt). But I told myself that I wasn't going to let it flip my entire world upside down. So I let myself have one really good cry, and then I told myself I'm going to start moving on. Which brings me to...
Step 2: Friends = lifesavers.
- Go to the mall and buy yourself something nice (don't over spend, though. Just something small, but nice. Like a new outfit or purse!) Or go see a movie, or out to dinner or something! Don't mope around your house all day doing nothing.
Step 3: Talk about it.
- It feels SO good to let it all out. Sit down with somebody you trust (for me, it was my mom) and just spill your heart out. Again, don't let it ruin your life or impact you too much.
Step 4: Move ON!
- Stop talking to him for a while (you need to give yourself time to get OVER him). Don't stalk his Facebook, spend time with other people, and don't even waste time TALKING about him.
Honestly, it's going to take time, and it's going to be hard, but once you get over him you will feel SO much better. I promise you that this guy is NOT worth wasting all of your time on, and that there are plenty of other fish in the sea. Go out and find a new guy that treats you right and is WORTH your time. Forget about this guy ASAP. You're young and have plenty of time for guys. And, as one of my favorite books puts it: The first boy is always the hardest.
Best of luck! :)

okay so my best friend [ he's a guy ] is leaving in a week to go to an early summer program for college then starting college.. i want to get him something either just for him or for his dorm.. he already has picture frames and stuff and i dont want it to be cheesy... help?
Make him a CD with all of his favorite songs, or songs that remind you of him.
Make him one of those tie blankets to take with him.
Get him some new books! :)
Or, just go to Ikea and look for some really cool dorm room accessories. They have some really neat stuff.
-Laura (17-f)
Hey, i wanted to make my boyfriend of almost a year a cd for our anniversary. I need some good songs that pretty much say i love you and im always going to be here for you no matter what. Something along those lines. Thank you soo much!

\So there's this guy. I don't have any feelings for him at all, honestly. He's just really nice to me and we could be friends. But there's something he does that really annoys/confuses me. I want to know what he thinks of me.
During class, he's always calling my name and like whenever I'm in the hallway and he's behind me, he catches up to me just to talk to me. Sometimes he even ignores his friends for me.
Sometimes I ignore him but he insists on talking to me. And like usually when we talk I think he's fun and easy to talk to. He also does this to another girl in my class, Sarah. He is closer to Sarah than he is to me. He has a grlfriend too, Mimi.
Okay so here is the problem. I don't mind that he has a girlfriend and a girl friend that he's close to. I don't have feelings for this guy. If it matters, I used to have a crush on him and I told him after I got over it. It didn't affect him, so I don't think that's important.
But the problem is sometimes when we talk I think he's really annoying because he brings up Mimi and Sarah, right? And he's like, "You know, Mimi is so perfect. She's so frikking cute."
Like, literally, out of nowhere. We aren't talking about relationships, crushes, or who we prefer or ANYTHING. We could be talking about a movie or a celebrity or something funny that happened in class that has nothing related to Mimi or Sarah and all of a sudden he goes, "Sarah is so pretty and cute. So cute." It's like, why are you telling me this?
Whenever this happens, I pretend I don't mind and go, "Yeah, she is adorable!" and then like get quiet because I don't know what else to say.
To be honest, I find it insulting that he brings up girls in my conversations. I know he doesn't talk about me that way to Sarah or Mimi. I don't mind if he does, but, c'mon guys, you wouldn't like it if your girl friend (just a friend) talks to you constantly about other guys.
So should I stop talking to him? It's getting on ym nerves. He's nice and all, but is he disrespecting me? What do you, a guy, think is on his mind when he does this? Maybe I'm overthinking it??
I think he's trying to make you jealous. I've seen guys do this before; heck, us girls do it, too.
Try talking to him and making it clear that you do not have romantic feelings for him. Just let him know how you feel, and maybe suggest that he go TALK to Mimi or Sarah instead of telling you how "cute" he thinks they are.

If you have had unprotected sex, there is a good chance you can be pregnant.
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=538566
The Top 10 Earliest Signs Are:
1. Tender, swollen breasts.
2. Fatigue.
3. Implantation bleeding.
4. Nausea or vomiting.
5. Increased sensitivity to odors.
6. Abdominal bloating.
7. Frequent urination.
8. A missed period.
9. Your basal body temperature stays high.
10. A positive home pregnancy test.
I think you should take a home pregnancy test and see what it says. If it's positive, go see your doctor for a solid answer right away.

I started working at a summer camp last week and it seems like ever since, these small, almost unnoticeable bumps have appeared all over the tops of my hands and some on my fingers. It is only on my hands, no where else. They itch a little bit sometimes, but not really unless I touch them. They are basically the color of my skin and from far away you really can't even tell that they are there. I have no clue what it is though? I was thinking that maybe it was caused by the sun but I have no clue.
Anyway ever experience this/have any idea what it is?
I think I know exactly what you're talking about, because I have the same thing. I really didn't think much of it and they went away on their own after a few weeks.
If they're still there after a few weeks, it might not be the same thing I have, though. If they keep up, check in with your doctor. I'm sure it's nothing serious, though, and they'll probably clear up on their own like mine did.

which ones help curb your appetite the best?
or just work well in general?
dont lecture me about losing weight by excercising. of course im going to do that too.
Weight loss pills DON'T work; it's as simple as that. They're designed to make you gain weight so you keep using the pills. If you want to lose weight, do it the right way and save yourself the trouble.

This is my first year on varsity, and I am one of only 3 new girls. I am going to be a senior this year. At cheer camp they do a secret sister thing and the girls name I picked is also a senior. We are supposed to get 3 gifts for them along with 3 clues. Since I don't know any of the girls very well it's hard to make them personal.
I only have 2 days, so I need some ideas quick! It is supposed to be cheapish, but I don't want to get crappy gifts, not knowing what the girls usually get for each other since its my first year doing this.
I emailed my coach for some ideas, and she said a few girls made scrapbooks and made blankets, but I don't have enough time for things like that :( She also mentioned candy treats, but that seems really cheap.
Any ideas?! THANKS!
- You can decorate a picture frame and put a picture of your squad in it.
- You can give her a little gift basket with body lotion or body spray in it.
- You can get her a journal and decorate the front to say "Cheer Camp Memories" or something.
- You can make her a mix CD of pump up songs.
- You can get her some cute hair accessories.
- You can make one of those tie blankets with a cool pattern.

So, I recently joined a gym and started eating healthier, I cut out fizzy drinks and sugary snacks, however, I can't seem top stop snacking on other things.
I won't even be hungry, but I'll still end up eating something, and this is preventing weight loss.
Are there any tips to on how I can resist snacking, or something to distract me from it?
Oh, and don't just say "Drink water" because I do that anyway..
Thanks :)
Find alternatives, not to snacking, but to the snacks themselves.
Snack on fruits or veggies, or something healthy. Snacking isn't always a bad thing, you just have to watch what you're snacking on.
