Q: Slaughter houses, disgust me. I want to change slaughter houses, the killing animals can somebody tell me how i could help?
I'm only 14/f. (9th grade)
The only meat I eat is chicken, and I can't help it but i still feel bad afterwords.
Why can't farm owners cant wait untill the animal dies, then slaughter and sell it? Thats organic right? Instead of slicing its neck open with tears dripping down its eyes. ):
Supposly the islamic method makes the animal feel no pain.. is this true?
Is there something i could go to school for, to change the method of killing animals?
I want my job to help animals, but i do not want to be a vet. JUst some suggestions on anything i've asked or written would mean alot to me.

Q: Hello all, this is Woahtherebabe.
This morning, I woke up and my eye was swollen shut, and around it is very swollen-(its not pretty;]). Anyway, yesterday before this had happened I had noticed something under my skin, it was white, and about half the size of my pinky finger. My parents said it wasnt really anything, so I decided just to wash my face, and that's it(just with warm water).
I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else, and whether anyone knows if this could be a spider bite, or something else.
Thank you to all, and have a nice day!

I'm going to suggest an eye stye. If you go to school, ask the school nurse. (because doctor's visits require copay and first see if it's serious before taking action and making an appointment)

Q: 15/f
ok so im a freshman and we just started picking classes for next year in school. for science this year i took honors biology and im trying to decide if i want to take ap chem or just honors chem next year. im a really good student and i know taking ap would look great for college but on the other hand i dont want to take a class that i cant pass and make my sophomore year way too stressful. i do plan on going to a top college, possibly ivy league. im also one of those people whos not happy unless they have an A in a class haha. so any advice from sophomores currently taking ap chem would be great, or anyone taking it/taken it in the past for that matter!
thank you in advance =)

I don't know what school you go to (course offerings matter) or what you want to do (major + career) in college + life, but here is what I think:
Are you good at science and math? Or are you hardworking and dedicated? If so, go for it. BTW, you can take Chem HNS and AP Chem at the same time. Some sophomores I know do Chem HNS and AP Bio at the same time even. Sophomore year is not as heavily weighted as junior year so be careful of what you want to do. Save the "easier" AP class for junior year just in case. What I mean is, ask upperclassman how the class is and how the teacher is before making any decisions because it makes a huge difference. If you plan on majoring in something related to science you should take AP Chem sometime. You should take the 3 core sciences: biology, chemistry, and physics over your 4 years in high school. If you are not, then you should just take Chem HNS. Then junior year take Physics HNS. And senior year take any advanced science once you get used to it. You don't really want to just jump into AP Chem if you haven't taken Chem HNS yet. Take it and seee if you like it first. You can take AP Bio soph year because you'll remember bio from freshman year fresh in your head. It all comes down to what is easier for you. Biology is more about memorization and chemistry is more math-based. Forgive me as I am rambling and my paragraph is a little unorganized. I think it is a good idea to get started early so you have a little taste junior year because for me it was a shock all at once because I was taking more than one and didn't know how hard it was or different from just honors. Also, I didn't know that we were allowed to take AP classes earlier than junior/senior year! :( If I had known, I would have. On the other hand, if you pick up all the hard classes early on you may have no other classes left to do for senior year, depending because you need some hard classes left for that last year so colleges know you're not slacking off. If you don't know what you want to do in life, think about it some more and choose classes accordingly or you may regret it. AP classes cover a lot of material in a very short time and just move on quickly. There may be more types of science courses your school offers, but here is an example of what you can do:
Freshman:
Bio HNS
Sophomore:
Chem HNS
Junior:
AP Chem
and/or
Physics HNS
Senior:
AP Bio
and/or AP Physics (if your school offers that)
Or double up on classes if possible.
Put one in my inbox if you have any more questions! Good luck! :)
Don't forget you can take credit courses over the summer! (to skip levels or w/e)

Q: Do not answer if you don't know.
Can ducks eat peanut butter and be fine? Is it bad or good for them? I have a billion peanut butter crackers and I want to feed them to the ducks.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
It's not good to feed wild birds but I do it too anyway. Birds can choke on peanut butter. You can mix the peanut butter in with fat as to reduce that risk. (There are products for feeding birds sold at stores - if they contain peanut butter it's also because there is also fat in there as well or something really oily). However, it's better that crackers/bread be plain. You can eat a packet of peanut butter crackers a day or sell them to kids somehow and make profits while you're at it too!

There are many variations out there of childhood songs and rhymes and people can make his or her own one up!
Here are some about Mickey Mouse that sing to the tune of:
"Bubblegum bubblegum
In a dish
How many pieces do you wish?"
I found something close to it:
"mickey mouse built a house, what color was it....b l u e spells blue and you are not it"
or
"Mickey Mouse built a house, how many bricks did he use?"
(the person who's toe you land on picks a number, then the person reciting the rhyme counts to that number, and the final person landed on is it)

You can also sell things online on eBay or on a Livejournal or website of your own making to reach a wider audience. Word of mouth is your best bet. You can also do custom orders for more money! :) Don't forget you can take your old stuff and transform them into something new! If you can sew, you can make clothes too! Get old clothes from a secondhand shop and remake them to be hella awesome. Hats, scarves, etc..
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Soda tab chain necklaces
- Boondoggles (like in Napoleon Dynamite), cell phone chains, friendship bracelets, necklaces, earrings, keychains (anything, even jewelry, will sell well if they are good): example: http://phockyu.deviantart.com/art/kappa-75414322 can be attached to a cute rainbow necklace, etc (just be creative)
- Sell own artwork
- Wallet or things made out of duct-tape
- Cellphone holders
- You can also make purses but different ones. Like purses made out of jeans or coffin purses (look them up) or juice pouches/drink labels! See: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/20686/crafts_you_can_make_from_everyday_labels.html and http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=812

Haha I love your question!
I have made homemade lip gloss before but it was a kit I bought. I can't remember where from (arts and crafts store like Michael's or Rag Shop or the like) but here are some other suggestions:
Also, you can use Vaseline as it is just clear petroleum jelly and will not darken your lips but will make them soft and shiny. :)
You can eat an red ice bar. Rub them over your lips. Your lips will be nice and red. Why? Because after you kiss your boyfriend the lip gloss will probably come off whereas with lip stains your color will stay on! Also, Revlon sells Just Bitten lip stains which are great:
http://www.revlon.com/ProductCatalog/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=33
There are a lot of recipes online:
NOTE: Remember to check for allergies on all items used before making anything.
Chocolate Lip Gloss
3 tablespoons cocoa butter
4 or 5 chocolate chips
1 capsule vitamin E
Melt all ingredients in a double boiler, and then blend with a spoon until the mixture is very smooth. Put into a container and refrigerate until solid.
Cranberry Lip Gloss
1 tablespoon almond oil
10 fresh cranberries
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon petroleum jelly (optional - for more shine)
Mix all the ingredients and then place them in a microwave or heat-resistant container. Heat in the microwave or a water bath until the mixture just begins to boil (1-2 minutes in the microwave). Stir well and gently mash the berries. Let the mixture stand for at least 5 minutes.
Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove all pieces of cranberry. Stir and allow to cool completely. When cool, spoon into a clean container.
To use: Spread a small amount onto your lips.
Vanilla Lip Gloss
1 tablespoon grated beeswax
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1/8 teaspoon vitamin E oil
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Place the beeswax, coconut oil and vitamin E oil in an ovenproof container. Heat gently until the wax and oils are melted. Stir in the vanilla extract and mix well. Pour the mixture into a clean container and allow to cool completely before using.
This is a fun and easy recipe!! Who would have known that Kool-Aid makes great lip-gloss?
Lip Gloss
2 tablespoons solid shortening (Crisco),
1 tablespoon Kool-Aid drink mix of your choice (powdered, with sugar already added)
From: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/18721/make_yummy_homemade_lip_gloss.html
Or:
Create the base
Experiment with the following ingredients to come up with a consistency you like. Melt a combined amount of 2 tablespoons for each lip gloss container using any of the following ingredients:
 Petroleum jelly
 Beeswax
 Paraffin wax
 Vegetable Shortening
 Carmex
Flavor
Lip gloss can be flavored in many ways, including:
1 Tbls flavored drink mix
1 candy melt
1 drop essential oil (eucalyptus, peppermint, clove, etc.)
Color
Additional color can be added using:
 Beet juice
 Food coloring
 Eye shadow (liquid or powder)
 Ultrafine glitter dust
 Melted lipstick chips
 Melted crayon shavings (1 tsp)
Select container
Containers can be purchased at craft or beauty supply stores. Alternative containers include 35 mm film containers, contact lense cases, empty eye shadow boxes, pillboxes (recommended when making many different lip glosses), or small spice jars. All containers should be sterilized before use.
Mix
Put all ingredients in a plastic bag or microwave safe bowl. Place bag in warm water until contents have melted and mixed thoroughly. Microwave ingredients for 30 seconds, stir. Snip corner of bag and squeeze contents into container. Pour contents of microwave safe bowl into selected container. Allow lip gloss to cool for 20 minutes. Refrigerate.
From: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/26496/how_to_make_your_own_lip_gloss.html
Or:
How to Make Your Own Lip Gloss Without Beeswax
Instead of using beeswax, use Vaseline.
Get the original Vaseline. Any specialty Vaseline has things that you may be allergic to. For example, Vaseline baby. CVS brand also is known for allergic reactions.
Get the amount of Vaseline that you want to turn into lip gloss. It doesn't matter how much Vaseline you use, it just depends on how much lip gloss that you want to make.
Go to your local grocery store and pick out a Kool Aid packet, but when you do judge two things: flavoring and color.
For the flavoring, you won't exactly be eating it, but just in case you lick your lips you won't be tasting the Vaseline.
For coloring don't pick blue-raspberry because your lips will be blue. Your best bet is Kool Aid that is invisible, but still has flavoring.
For color, (if the kool Aid does not have any color, and you would like your lip gloss to be colored) chop off a small piece of lip stick, and mix with your Kool Aid/Vaseline mixture.
Homemade Cranberry Lip Gloss
Ingredients:
1 tbsp sweet almond oil
10 fresh cranberries
1 tsp honey
Mix all ingredients together in a microwave for 2 min or until the mixture just begins 2 boil. Stir well and gently crush the berries. Then strain through a fine seine 2 remove all the fruit pieces. Pour into a small container.

You can use Urbandictionary:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tomboy
Samples:
A girl who dresses and sometimes behaves the way boys are expected to, often into more masculine things like "stronger" sports, computers, or cars. Stereotypically wears jeans, baseball caps, and denim vests/jackets. Often brought up with a lot of brothers or a child of a single father.
A young girl who would rather be playing football in the rain than out shopping and boy hunting. Hangs out with boys. Does not care about what other people think of her, nor does she judge others for the way they are. Very sporty, and does not follow the latest fashion trends. Does not make fun of what most people would call " nerds " or " geeks ", and in fact befriends them most of the time. I am a tomboy, and I love it.
Stereotypically, I suppose, for example, tomboys wear funny tees with cool slogans, baseball caps, baggy tees, loose cargo pants, army fatigues, belts, ripped jeans, jackets, no makeup or accessories. I used to be a tomboy but now I like wearing just whatever I feel like at the moment.

Q: What are the common words you know (for spellers who have experience) that usually appears in a SCHOOL Spelling Bee? Yay! I got 1st place in the CLASSROOM Spelling Bee and I want to be ready for the next round (the school round)!
I want to study hard; it's in 2 weeks! I'm looking forward to winning this one because it is my very first time to be in a Spelling Bee [:
1 So my question is, what can I study? Language of origins.. what else?
2 What are some useful ways to study and WIN This challenge?
3 And yeah, what are some of the WORDS that often appear in the SCh00L Spelling Bee (that you remember or know) (Not the district, State, Regionals, or Nationals YET! :) )
4 Are they THAT hard?
5 How do you spell it if you have NEVER heard it before ?
6 But are there gonna be words there from the ones from the Nationals?
Oh god, I'm so excited for this. This is my first experience. You might think I'm annoying, but I haven't had this competitive feeling for a very long time and I'm a very C0MPETiTiVE person.
So please please please help and encourage me to do good. [:

Best of luck to you!
I don't know if you've ever read my previous post:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=526658
I'll paste it here in case you haven't:
Teachers aren't supposed to give you a list of words because that would be too easy and not representative of what spelling bees are in actuality. Books at the 8th grade reading level that have what people at that age would consider "big words" contain good vocab you will prob get tested on. So look for 8th grade reading lists. You probably had one and had to read books for school. You can also look up other school's lists online or other school's 8th grade vocab books. The next time you read books, jot down words you don't know and look them up. Reading is good for knowing new vocab and each time you see the word you will remember it better. 8th grade was a looong time ago for me. I would say to also memorize words that are not spelled how they would be pronounced phonetically. Watch movies: Akeelah and Spellbound for tips. Read all types of materials (newspaper, magazines, comics, etc) you can get your hands on and watch movies/TV shows with subtitles on (preferably educational like the Discovery Channel or the news). Learning Latin and other languages can help you too but that may be a little late at this point. Other languages just in addition help you guess how to spell a word if you have never heard of/seen it before because in certain language words are spelled in certain ways characteristic to that language. That's why origin of the word can help you. SAT I books are good too. Princeton Review contains little notecards you can study from or Sparknotes has products on vocab.
I won my 8th grade spelling bee. :) I kick myself all the time for what dumb mistakes I did wrong. I would definitely say to take your time (highly important) and envision the word in your head or write it out in the air or on your hand because you won't get pencil and paper to see if looks like it's spelled right to you because some people are visual and need the word in front of them to determine if it's spelled right or not and you may say something wrong by accident when you really do know how to spell the word. Enunciate clearly, every letter. To get "extra" time when you are a little stuck, ask for the definition and the origin of the word and an example sentence. lol you can buy some time that way. You have to ask for it. How it works is that the people ask you to spell a word. You can either spell it or ask for what I just mentioned. In the classroom, I don't think I remember getting that privilege, however. You can ask your teacher.
Remember that it's all about luck, what word you get. You may know some hard words and others you get tripped up on. Good luck to you!
Some extra info to add:
Whether you are preparing for the Third Grade Spelling Bee or the National Championship, the basics are the same: there's more to it than knowing how to simply spell the word. Bee winners study definitions, etymology and pronunciations.
Yeah, district, regionals, state, and nationals are much harder in levels, but the school bee words, looking back, didn't seem all that bad.
Examples of lists that may help you for school bee:
http://www.time4learning.com/SpellingWords/8th-grade-spelling-words.shtml
- Also, for spelling words you have never heard before it may be safe to use what you know. "Be aware of the few spelling rules that exist. For example, the old favorite: "I before e except after c, or when sounding like a, as in neighbor and weigh." "The other exception to this rule is in words that have the “shen” sound and are spelled with the “ie” after the “c”. This is seen in words like “ancient” and “sufficient”." Also, u will always follow q in the English language." Moreover, "double the final consonant in words with more than one syllable only if the final three letters are consonant-vowel-consonant or the accent is placed on the last syllable. Example: con-trol’ + ed = controlled, because the last three letters are consonant-vowel-consonant and the accent is on the last syllable. Now, the word “visit” has the consonant-vowel-consonant pattern, but the accent is on the first syllable so we do not double the final consonant when adding endings like: –ing, –ed, –er and –est." Also, "double the final consonant in one syllable words when the last three letters of the word are consonant-vowel-consonant (c-v-c). Example: thin + er = thinner, because the last three letters of “thin” are “h-i-n” or consonant-vowel-consonant." "Learn and review the basic spelling rules. This will help you look at the letters and letter combinations so that you will properly use them to form words correctly." "Identify common errors that are made in spelling, and make a list of commonly confused words like: “their”, “there” and “they’re”."
- To help you study: "Chunk syllables and memorize the syllables by spelling them aloud and in rhythm. For example, break the word "icicle" into three rhythmic chunks, ic-ic-le. Break the word "superfluous" into these chunks: super-flu-ous." Or make up mnemonic devices like clever rhymes. Know the word "mnemonic"! :D
- "Write any words that don't follow phonics rules in the palm of your hand with your index finger. Trace the letter and feel it while saying the name of the letter. Then make a fist to get control of that hard to spell word." or "spell words in the air using large movements, or trace the letters on the floor with your foot while saying the name of the letter. Get your whole body involved in learning a hard to spell word."
- "Match the word to another word that has a similar spelling to learn more than one word at a time. For example, learn to spell "measure," "pleasure" and "treasure" at the same time. Memorize "hoist," "foist" and "moist" all at once."
- Play spelling games such as Scrabble, Boggle, word searches, crossword puzzles in the New York Times, or Taboo, online games, computer games designed to help spelling, etc. Incorporate words and spelling into a number of fun activities.
"Know the origins of words. Like Greek and Latin. It can be the difference between words ending in "isk" for an Anglo-Greek word or "esk" if it's Swahili. Picking up "Merriam-Webster's A Dictionary of Prefixes, Suffixes, and Combining Forms" from a local bookstore or online will help you with this step."
- "Study the Consolidated Word List link that is listed below. It is a compilation of spelling words dated back to 1950. The words are categorized between words based upon frequency of use in spelling bee competitions." "Check out the official National Spelling Bee guide called, "Spell It!" Find it in your local bookstore or online." "Check the local newspaper that sponsors the spelling bee for a list of words to be used during competition time. Sometimes they are given the list as a guide to help students study." "Look for more word list resources at libraries or bookstores that carry study material for standardized tests (i.e. ACT or SAT) They have verbal sections dedicated to vocabulary words."
- "Make flashcards containing new words from chapters or books you are reading in school. Then, test yourself on the words. You can make it into a fun game that you can do with your friends."
- "Get a coach to practice. If you're just practicing for your school spelling bee this may not be necessary, but if you move up to district or state then a spelling be coach will be ideal."
- "Get a list of all of the championship words for the last twenty years. These are the winning words for the national spelling bee. While they won't necessarily be championship words again they could definitely appear as one of the words in the early rounds of the national spelling bee, so be sure to practice them."
- "Download the Consolidated Word List from the Scripps National Spelling Bee homepage. It will give you a list of words to learn from the 1970's through to 2004. Download "Spell It" from the Scripps National Spelling Bee website. It will give you a study guide to follow to best prepare for a spelling bee." or "study the "Paideia," the book from which many spelling bee words are drawn. Work through the list of 3600 words in the book in gradual study sessions."
- "Learn word origins. If you don't initially know how to spell a word knowing it's origin, Greek, Latin or other roots will help you figure the spelling out. For word origins use Webster's "A Dictionary of Prefixes, Suffixes and Combing Forms.""
- "Follow Carolyn Corners 36 week spelling bee practice study course. Her course follows the standard school year and offers the best online spelling bee course available for free."
- When reading, "looking closely at the words on the pages will help you learn by example. The more you read, the more you will see how different words are spelled and used in the context of the reading."
- "Use a dictionary and thesaurus to check your spelling and to learn new and different word choices that can be incorporated in your writing. As you write, you can underline the words you are not sure of and look them up as you make revisions. In your spare time, you can even flip through the dictionary or thesaurus and practice spelling the words on the pages. This will build your spelling skills and increase your vocabulary at the same time."
- "Create a list of words you tend to misspell and keep it handy while you are writing. With each corrected paper you get back, you can look it over and continue to add to your list of misspelled words. As you add the words to your list, you can practice correctly spelling the words three or four times and help yourself learn from your mistakes."
- What will really help you are lists of commonly misspelled words we all trip over. Google them up.

During the bee:
"Ask for permission to start over. If you start to stammer while spelling a word, it may be helpful to begin again. Do not change the order of the letters that have already been spoken out loud."
"Take your time. You don't want to have the judges mistake a stammer for spelling out multiple letters."

In addition to the great answer the columnist provided below, there is also something called the love trail which is a trail of tiny hairs that starts from your bellybutton and leads down to you-know-where. But the landing strip is what the other columnist mentioned, if a girl cuts her hair to be neatly rectangle-shaped down there.

You can even do that in Microsoft Word, yo.
Paste or insert your picture into that program.
See: http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/6320/lalapj2.png
The toolbox has icons and the half black, half white circle will control the contrast. To get what you wanted you also make the image black and white then alter the contrast.
This will make sense: http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/8573/laladp3.png
1. Original image
2. Color contrast
3. Black and white contrast

Q: http://l.yimg.com/img.tv.yahoo.com/tv/us/img/site/48/99/0000034899_20061021033218.jpg
how does she (peyton sawyer/hilarie burton) get her hair to have so much volume on the top with curls and with bangs?
is it possible to do your hair like that without a curling iron?
like if you have naturally wavy/curly hair and just scrunch it or something
