Hi! I'm BroadwayBabe629. As you can see I am a theatre lover. I am highly involved in music and theatre. Those are my areas of specialty. Got a question about either? Ask away! Got a question about something else? I'm always here.

Is "Another Suitcase In Another Hall" from EVITA a good audition song for a 13-year-old girl?

Hi! I adore Evita, especially that song. Think about the show and role you are auditioning for. If you are auditioning for an older person [than your age] this is appropriate. If its a comedy or something younger I would say try something a little more fun. Best of Luck!! Let me know how the audition goes >_^

I signed up for the school talent show. Suddenly today, I learned that it will be held at the assembly. And it's too late to drop out. I have a terrible case of stage fright. I'm singing a song from THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Wishing You Were...), and it's going to be hard to liven up a beautiful broadway piece next to all the other singers, who are singing stuff like Ice Ice Baby and Alicia Keys. How do I relax?!

Just Breathe. It sounds so trivial, but that's all you can do. You chose the song for a reason. Personally, I adore that song. I use it for auditions all the time. It's a beautiful song and it's emotional. Let yourself enjoy it and just have fun. If you're super super super nervous just get some friends together and ask them if they will listen. You'll get used to a small audience. This sounds really weird, but sometimes I sing when I walk down the hallway. Not like belting it out, but my friends and I will like sing and dance down the hallway [very La Vie Boheme-esk from RENT haha] but, as odd as it sounds, I'm way less self concious. Sing when no one expects it. It actually handles fear really well. Best of Luck!

Me and my friend want to start a "band" so there would be two singers. I was wondering if anyone has any songs that have two singers in them. We already have a couple of Aly and AJ songs. But we would like some more. If you have any ideas please help.
I rate 5's for good answers.

If you want to kick it old school a bit, haha, you could always go for some Heart. I love the song "What About Love?" and they have many more great ones. A classic pair for duets. NEVER be afraid to look to past music because there is some great stuff out there. ^_^ Best of Luck!

Okay so I'm trying out for a singing group at our school called "Chamber Singers" If you dont know what that is its like a choir...but tryouts are next friday and i have no idea what song to sing...i want to do one that really showcases my voice...but i dont know the best way to go about figuring out which one does...Like I thought about recording on a karaoke machine but you know how bad the quality of that is...and then i figured i could ask my parents but i'm not sure they'll be completely honest...what do yall think? I really DONT want to make a fool of myself....singing is a HUGE dream of mine and I take it extremely seriously! Thanks so much in advance for anyone who helps...

and please dont mention that i could sing for you because
A) I dont have a mic
and
B) You still sound back singing on a mic hooked up to the computer..so please dont mention that option...thanks!

Just like you, I always have a rough time trying to pick the perfect song. You want a song that will showcase your talents and let your voice sound amazing. You want to hide [if you have any] flaws you might have. Also, it is important to keep in mind that you don't want to take anything too challenging because while they will take this fact into consideration, if you get nervous it is possible that your mistakes may overshadow your voice.
Something to consider while choosing the song, is your audience and the type of music the group you are auditioning for. I'm in the Select Choir at my school, they luckily gave us an audition piece. I would think about the type of music your chamber group usually performs and base your choice off of that. You want to show your personality and how amazing you are, but you also want them to hear that you can do what they do [better than they can ^_^] and you would be the best addition to them. Pick a song, you'll be able to tell while singing it if it works for you. If you're struggling even a little, it's NOT a good audition piece. No matter what, GO FOR IT. You never know how far you can go until you try. Best of Luck! I hope you make it. If you need any more help, feel free to contact me, just let me know a typical genre they perform and your range. ^_^

I've been really interested in the guitar lately, and my brother found some of his old beginners books that teaches you how to play basic chords and such. He told me that it would probably take about a month to learn the chord. Is this true? I expected much longer than that.

Guitar is quite fun, I love to play. The rate that you pick up any instrument is very dependent upon the person. For some people, this can be almost instantaneous. For others, it may take a long time. If you work at it and practice, depending on your memory, you could learn guitar very quickly. Aside from learning chords, if you take the time to really learn the guitar and learn the notes in different positions and frets, you will have a very solid base. This will help you if you know how to compose chords. It will also help on your soloing and picking. Good Luck!! :)
