Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

okay 2 nights ago i had some friends over and we decided to drink, and we all got really really really drunk. anyway, i found out that i called the boy i have a huge crush on and left a message telling him i like him. right now im talking to him on aim and he hasnt said anything. do you think hes not bringing it up because he has no feelings for me? or he doesnt know what to say?
im not really sure if i should like ask him if he got the message or apologize or tell him whats going on or whatever.. what should i do?!
He's still talking to you, so that's a good sign... well either that or he hasn't gotten the message yet.
I would bring it up though (in person), and after he says he got it just be like
"I'm sorry, I was really drunk. I'm so embarrassed and I don't want anything to become awkward between us"
Don't lie about liking him. If he likes you, he'd be grateful for the opportunity to find out how you feel about him. If he doesn’t he’ll understand that It was a mistake and hopefully get over it or realize how much he likes you too.
Personally, I love drunken phone calls. It always gives me the chance to do whatever I want or call whoever want without being shy because hey, you have the best excuse ever, “Omg I was so drunk” and people are always wondering whether you really meant it or not.

I was wondering if there was a way to find out what has been printed on your computer. LIke in the past?
Not usually but it depends on the type of printer you have. I would suggest taking a look at the user manual.
When you print a document, the information gets sent to the printer and instead of saving it, the computer prints it out so it doesn't usually have a -history- you could look at.

okay well im 13/f and I KNOW i have a problem...#1 i have REALLY bad anger issues...for example once i punched a wall and fractured (spelling?) my fist all because i couldnt see my cousins for a week or so longer. i've also threw things around just because i was told something i believed in strongly about was wrong. i take temper tantrums and yes its immature but the thing is i dont really realize what im doing..when i have my little fits its like all this energy and i dont know its just weird, it freaks me out a little. OK now heres the thing as soon as im done takin my fits or throwin somethin punchin a wall i will b perfectly fine 5/10 mins later i will act like nothing ever happened sure i'll have a headache but i wont be pissy or anything. Im also like that throughout the day...i'll be really pissed off for god knows what 5mins later im the happiest person in the world...5mins after that im mad again or im sad and depressed or something and hey maybe theres nothing wrong with me but maybe there is and its starting to get annoying when im all happy and then im depressed....

Go see a therapist or a counselor, you might have anger management issues or symptoms of / personality disorder (your mood wings seem bipolar). Don't take my word for it though, go see a professional please.
What's important is that you can acknowledge that you have a problem, that's the hard part.

Where i live right now i wear things like hollister, american eagle, aeropostale, and stuff like that. well im moving to texas and do people wear stuff like that down there and if not whats the style???
Nope, people in Texas only wear checkered shirts and overalls... they also like to accessorize with shovels and rakes.
Jussst kidding. Texas is pretty much just like everywhere else. You just need to make sure you don't buy lots of sweatshirts and stuff. It's very hot there especially during the summer. Just load up on cute bikinis from PacSun and you're good.

I'm feeling bad about something. Well last night after work one of my friends asked me if I'd like to go out to the bar to meet one of her single guy friends. She said he was really nice but he had a handicap- he walks with two canes. Well I met him and he was a nice guy- he kept engaging me in converstation. What I didn't like was he seemed a little pushy- he was already asking what I was doing on my day off and wanted my number. I gave it to him out of guilt. Honestly I was not attracted to him- his handicap had nothing to do with it. Anyways I told my friend afterwards that he was a nice guy but I didnt want to date him- she said "why"? He would treat you like gold- and thinks it's because of his handicap. I told her I just didnt feel a chemitsry. She said she understands. Anyways- what am I going to do when this guy phones me?
When he phones you, try making it clear that you want to keep in touch with him but only as a "friend". Tell him you don't feel attracted to him and you'd hate for there to be a sticky situation. Ask him if he really -truly- feels attracted to you anyway (people with handicaps usually feel rushed into the dating/marrying sage because fool themselves into thinking they will end up alone because no one will want someone like them). Set up a group situation with your other friend and go clubbing or something. Introduce him to some of your single friends that you think he might get along with. If he's a nice guy, there's no reason why you should totally keep him out of your life.

I'm dating this guy. Ryan. We have been dating for about three weeks now, Yeah, I know - It's not that long. But this isn't the first time we dated.
My best friend, almost hooked up with the same guy. But we went out one night and she did things with another guy and almost went all the way. Ryan found out and told me about two months ago that he didn't want a girl like that, So we started talking more, My bestfreind hates it with a passion. She claims that she wants him to die and that she hates him and doesn't want anything to do with him ever again, and that she has no feelings left for him what so ever, So I thought - What the heck, I'll date him and give him a chance.
We started dating. My bestfriend found out and told me, it's me or him. Take your pick. Of course, I chose my best friend. Me and Ryan broke up. Then about two weeks later, me and Ryan started talking about, and everything was cool with my bestfriend, We even pledged to not let another guy get between us ever again. Everything was perfect, So I gave Ryan another chance. I told my best friend, but she was too drunk to remember that I said anything.
Last night I hung out with both of them. My bestfriend was a complete ass to Ryan and I felt bad but I couldn't do much because I hate being in the middle of fights, So I just stood there and talked to all my other friends. Apperently everyone but my bestfriend knew that me and Ryan were dating. Well, I didn't want to tell my bestfreind last night either because we were not only with a buncha friends but she was also wasted.. So I didn't say anything.
Somehow, she found out. She called Ryan and completely bitch slapped him and called him on everything. I haven't talked to her yet but I'm not so sure I want to. I don't know what to do because I know it's going to come down to the same thing, Her or Him. I don't want to choose for the sake of myself, but what do I do?

Honestly, I am -all- for chicks before dicks but your friend is taking it way too far.
If she really did care for you, she'd want you to be happy with Ryan. But I have a feeling that she's very self absorbed and if there was a guy who came between you and her, she wouldn't give you a second thought.
Tell her that she's acting out of line and immature. Ask her for a good reason why you shouldn't go out with Ryan (i.e. if she really likes him) but if she can't come up with anything better than "I hate him", tell her that she needs to grow up. Make it clear that you're going to be dating Ryan and being her best friend at the same time and if she can't agree to that, she can call you when she's ready to.

Well me and boyfriend have been going out for a year and 8 months, going to be 9 soon. We are like best friends and spend alot of time together, but its always at my house or at the movies. I have only been to his house twice and once was because his sister invited me, the other cause his dad did. Today me and his family were supposed to go snorkeling but the weather was bad so he didnt go and didnt call me either. Now he says that he is staying at his house with his family. I wanted him to invite me so bad!!! But he didnt. His brother has a girlfriend and she is always over there. I have talked to him before, but still he has never invited me over. I am trying to call him now and he wont pick up his phone =(. OH what do I do, and why is he like this?
I agree with Kelly Elizabeth, he's probably too shy to have you over. But on the flip side, there -might- be something more serious going on.
Talk to him about it and be upfront. You've been going out for almost 2 years, it's about time you started becoming familiar with his family. Just say you need to ask him something and then tell him that if something is bothering him in the sense that he doesn't feel comfortable bringing you home, you would like to know why and tell him that you want to go over and don't understand why it's such a problem.

It's pretty quirky and girls like funny guys. They rank humour just after looks (which is what girls prize before all else, don't let them tell you different) so it's pretty important.

Honestly, couture is -very- overdone and if you start a line that has 'couture' in it, it might even seem like a rip off Juicy or Haute.
Go for a play off your name, those are always cute. For example, Tracy can be turned into T-Racy, Allison can be turned into Lily of the Aly.
Sometimes a number after your name can make your label sound pretty trendy (use a lucky number or something meaningful) like Jamie19 or Cass77. Sometimes you can fit the number into the name itself, like Car3y as in Carey or 5am as in Sam (which can be substituted to making a label called 5 AM). If it's your friend and you, you could fix your name into making a new word. Laura and Ashley could be LASH and Emily and James could be JEMY or JAIL (if you're desperate, you could add couture to the end of that). You could also stick initials together of yourself or places (suck as DKNY or FCUK), like JDC (Jane Doe Canada) or JSDC (John Smith Washington DC), or use you friend and your own initials TJMT or TMTJ or MTJT or Empty Jaytee (Tara Johnson and Mary Thomas). These ideas don't really have to be for names, you can use objects or places too, i.e. dance23 or take a dance (replacing chance).
You can pick tons of random things for your label. Just look around the room and you can figure it out.

so i'll start by telling you a bit about myself.
i am 15 f. i don't want to sound arrogant but yes, i am popular which is why i don't get what is going on. I am vasrity cheerleader as a sophmore and have no trouble w/ guys and have alot of girl friends. so this is my question...
i got into a figth with this girl and it got bad, but girls are catty. she tried to ruin my reputation, but i ruined her life =] i got her kicked off of class vice president and her friends hate her. but to be fair, she really deserved it im not kidding. she posted pictures of me that were like edited and crap to make it look like i was naked, like photocopying my head onto the pic or w/e. and posted it on alot of the lockers. idk why she did it, shes just jealous b/c im dating her ex bf. seems to me like SHES the sociopath not me...
so after this i got in trouble, the school sent me to a therapist to talk about why i act the way i do. he diagnosed me a sociopath. But um... sociopaths are psycho anti-socials and im the center of attention. Im not a freak, i love shopping and guys and they say just b/c im a little decieving and like it my way, makes me a sociopath???
can somebody please explain to me how a popular varsity cheerleader can be a sociopath because i am way not antisocial.
Sociopaths aren't always antisocial. A lot of them are very social, they talk a lot and don't show emotion so they usually get along in cliques well because they seem so confident.
You're therapist is whack. You can't diagnose someone as a sociopath like that, being a sociopath isn't a light matter.
By the way, that girl was a bitch. -Anyone- would have lashed out at her, maybe not as strongly, but what do you expect if someone is photocopying offensive pictures of you and posting them around the school?

I work with this really great girl that I didn't initially have feelings for, but as I've come to know her, I can't stop thinking about her. I'm not good at picking up girl's signals, but it looks to me like she flirts with me a lot. Laughs at my jokes, smiles a lot, I'll catch her staring every now and again, but I've misread these signals before.
Plus she's got this boyfriend who's kind of clingy, emotional, neurotic and all this. They've been going out for awhile and live together, but they won't anymore starting this fall. He'll be in another city and she has said that they don't have near the chemistry they did earlier(I guess that can be said for everyone though) and that she hadn't broken up with him yet because of the way he might take it.
So I guess the question's pretty obvious. Do I take the chance and tell her that I truly care about her and potentially ruin the friendship, which is very strong? Or do I say nothing now, take no chances, and wait until the fall when they're not living together? Or just quit being a dumbass about it and move on, which is probably what will end up happening in the end anyway? Thank you for your time.

Firstly, don't send your friend over. Just sit down and think about it some more, is there any chance at all that you might do this to him again? I know it seems like you're totally in love but you need to reflect and really figure it out because in this situation, you're the player.
If you're honestly sorry and want him back, go apologize and explain yourself. Tell him you're sorry and you understand if he thinks you're a bitch and doesn't want to ever see you again. If he doesn't take you back, you deserve it. If he does, you're lucky 'cause he just gave you another chance and don't ever try pulling any of that bull again. I'll be going paintballing for the very FIRST time tomorrow with a bunch of my guyfriends. My best friend and I will be the only girls there. I must admit I am a girly girl. Buy a copy of Seventeen or Cosmogirl. They have the best workouts and you always start seeing results in 2-4 weeks. I was on vacation and I started doing them, my friends said I actually lost weight while I was gone.

Soo i really want an awesome sweet 16 next year and my parents and i have been looking into hotels that have ballrooms that i can rent to have my party in. i went to a friends sweet 15 last year at a marriot hotel and it was amazing. does anyone know how much it normally costs? thank you soo much
My dad payed the Hilton around $20,000 to rent a ballroom for my 16th Birthday (this is CAD, by the way) but it really depends on the venue amd the catering. I had a buffet which is more expensive than cocktails but I think, less expensive than a sit-down dinner. Usually, the hotel wants you to use their catering service. You need to take all kinds of things into account, like if you're getting a band (what they'll need to set up), how many people you're inviting, et cetera. The season, hours and day matter too. So do the sizes of the ballroom and other amenities.
It varies, look up phone numbers on the Marriot website and inquire. Ask different hotels for different prices. If you want something cheaper, try shutting down a restaurant, if you want something more expensive and of better quality, try a high-end hotel or a country club.
