kayms914 answered Sunday February 26 2006, 1:03 am: its true in the sense that according to science your body should always be 98.6 so if it gets colder than that, your body needs to burn more energy to create more heat, and burning energy burns calories. theres no way to really figure out how many, but all i can really say is dont expect to lose weight from cold showers lol. some people finish hot showers with cold water bc it closes their pores, seals the ends of their hair to lock in conditioner and prevent split ends, and others just think it feels good lol. so the answer is yeah its true, but its not significant at all towards weight loss. <33k [ kayms914's advice column | Ask kayms914 A Question ]
LadyGoodman answered Saturday February 25 2006, 9:25 am: I think both thinks are old wives tales... not just the burning calories, but what that person says down there about being healthy and getting up in the morning. I know people who couldn't be healthier and they still can't wake up in the morning to save their lives. [ LadyGoodman's advice column | Ask LadyGoodman A Question ]
Alin75 answered Saturday February 25 2006, 7:16 am: Your body will always burn more calories if you are cold. If your room temperature is lower than normal you will burn more calories for example.
I cannot say how much a cold shower will do, and I cant think of anyway to calculate it (it would also depend on the length of the shower and the temperature of the water). Also, you might risk getting sick so Im not sure its a particularly effective way.
From personal experience I can say that swimming in cold water (for longer periods of time) was the most extreme and effective calorie burn I have ever endured. But thats off topic... the answer to your question is yes it does. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
carlyx answered Saturday February 25 2006, 1:38 am: im not sure where you heard that, but its an old wives tale, infact your bodies lowered temperature may cause it more harm than help! if you want to burn calories, try doing it the old fashioned way- dieting and exercizing. You'll find that the healthier you are, the easier it feels to get up in the morning. [ carlyx's advice column | Ask carlyx A Question ]
