Whatever you do, don't shave. It'll only grow back thicker, and will be more noticeable since you have dark hair. I'm persian, and know exactly where you're coming from (if I could count the number of times I've compared myself to those white girls, lol). I'm guessing you're a girl, and that's why you don't like having hair on your stomach- but I might be wrong. But anyway, you can try waxing. Overtime your hair should grow out finer..or at least it won't be any different than how it is now.
Don't shave, or use nair or anything like that.
I'm guessing that you don't have THAT much hair on your stomach, so don't worry about it. But if it's really bothering you, you can try waxing your stomach yourself or going to a salon to get it done.

Q: Well basically in my group of friends, I have always been that background girl. Out of drama, out of fights, the nice shy one of the group. Although that may sound pretty good, I'm also the one that gets overshadowed by EVERYONE. I never, ever get the attention from guys, I'm never the one that all the girls want to hang out with. Pretty much, I'm never in the spotlight. I'm so sick of hearing how my friends are jugglin like 4 different boys constantly, and I have a difficult time getting one, especially when guys must be crazy if they pick me over my friends (all my friends are absolutely gorgeous by the way) I've always acted like it never bothered me, but lately it's just been really getting to me, because my whole life this is the way its been, and just for once, I would love to get the attention even just for a slight second. I don't know...any thoughts or advice would be appreciated :-/

I used to be the EXACT same way growing up--quiet little me, always in the background. I sometimes felt invisible; as though my presence didn't make the slightest difference. But I've come to realize a few things:
a) If you don't speak up, people aren't going to listen. It's not because they don't want to hear what you have to say, but because you aren't clearly making your thoughts known. I'm not saying you should pretend to be someone you're not, but next time you have an opinion about something, say it. Try to get more involved, and you'll be surprised how people will respond and will WANT to hang around you.
b)Being popular and getting the guys is not all it's made out to be. I know how you feel- that you just want a LITTLE attention. Seems to me like you're the one that's being genuine, and sometimes that means being out of the lime light. You shouldn't act or dress a certain way to get the guys- that's knocking at the wrong door. Be yourself, get more involved socially, and maybe you'll meet someone with like interests- but keep in mind: things happen when you least expect them to :)
c) OH, yes..."all my friends are absolutely gorgeous." I'd be rich if I got a quarter for every time I said that about other girls--especially in High School.. it's been several years, but I know exactly how it feels. Hey, beauty really is only skin deep. AND it's subjective-why do you think they're gorgeous? Do they wear too much make up or spend hours on their hair? If that's not your thing (and good for you!) then you shouldn't have to succumb to such a narrow perception of beauty.
Hey, I know where you're coming from. I'm guessing you're in HS...Just remember: be yourself, be strong, and don't compare yourself to others. People will start admiring you for who you ARE :)

Q: I know this question has been asked a million times, but I'm still not sure. Me and a guy were dry-humping and I think he had an orgasm, but I didn't feel any wetness on his pants I was on top of him, but we were both completely clothed. Is there anyway that it could have gotten on my shorts and I could get pregnant? And for future reference...If this happens again and I DO feel a wetness? Can I really get pregnant? And is it immoral?

My best advice for you is to stop worrying. You were both fully clothed, so there's no chance for the semen to have reached your vagina THROUGH your clothing, even if you had felt wetness on your pants. IF, on the other hand, you were only wearing underwear or panties, then there's a slight chance for the sperm to seep through the fibers. But again, you say you were fully clothed. If you are fully clothed, meaning wearing pants, there really is no way for the semen to get through a thick layer of denim (or other fabric). Just make sure that if you guys are doing that, you're both wearing pants. If it does get to a point where you are ready for something more, then be safe and use a condom.
And dear, It seems you're being a bit hard on yourself. Nothing is "immoral" unless you intentionally harm someone else, and you were obviously not doing that. There's nothing wrong with doing something you and a guy enjoy, unless you feel you aren't ready. The word immoral is subjective--sometimes society (for whatever reason) deems something to be 'immoral'-- listen to your heart, forget what others say about something being 'wrong' or 'immoral.' THAT is for you to decide.

You know the expression, "boys will be boys"? Well, I say that cheaters will be cheaters. As much as all of this is hurting you (and I completely understand where you're coming from), there's no guarentee that he'll change his ways. What he did is unexcusable. If he really cared about you, he wouldn't have gone for someone else. It doesn't matter how far things went with that other girl, or what he thinks of her. The fact is that he compromised your trust, and thus your relationship. It's his fault. I know it hurts, and it may take a while to get over, but trust me, the best thing to do is break things off before they get worse. How you do that is up to you, but tell him in person, be strong and firm, and DO NOT give in. He may try to apologize and win you back, but you have to be the strong one and put him in his place.

I'd suggest going to Santa Barbara for the day- you can rent bikes for the day, walk along the beach, maybe see an outdoor art show. And there are tons of restaurants/shops on State Street. It's about a 2 hour drive from LA (depends which part, of course).
You could also drive down to Huntington Beach or if you want, Laguna Beach.
OH, another option is to spend a day on Catalina Island- hopefully that's enough time. You can take a boat there from Long Beach. It might be short notice though, so I'd suggest going to Santa Barbara..

Q: ok, well i've never been the athletic type at all, especially when it comes to running. at school we're having a test and i have to be able to run a mile in less than 10:30... no big deal, right? well, for me it is. 10:30 was actually my best time this year as a practice, and i was barely able to do it. i'm supposed to just keep jogging at a steady pace and NOT stop to walk to make it, but the longest i can keep running is about half a mile, and even that's a stretch (the fastest i've fone that is about 4:35). i can't distract myself from the running like most people can. how can i possibly make this easier on myself (besides practice, because i HAVE been doing that and trying my best)? any good ways to distract myself and not think about the running or my legs, appendiz, etc? anything i can do physically to improve my running?

Remember that the tortoise beat the hare--"slow and steady wins the race." Several years ago I had a dance class in High School (instead of gym) and we had to run a mile every so often- the teacher always told us to start out with a steady jog so we wouldn't burn ourselves out in a two minutes. Start off with a jog, and when you get more energy, start running faster.
It's also really important to stretch well before you run. Take your time before you start, and make sure you are fully energized and have had a good stretch so that your legs won't cramp up.
Another thing you should do is drink plenty of water...bring a water bottle along with you.
Oh, and I agree with the others- if you can, listen to music while running. It'll help take your mind off things.

Q: what color mascara/eyeliner/eyeshadow/blush/lipstick/lipgloss do i need for my face? here's what i look like:
oval/heart-shaped face, medium-darkish brown hair, medium-darkish brown eyes, kind of thick eye brows, oliveish tannish skin tone.

Since you have olive skin tone and brown eyes, you can use a lot of different shades of makeup (particularly eye makeup).. I'd suggest the following, but you can always experiment and find the look you're going for.
Mascara- black
Eyeliner-black
Eyeshadow- for brown eyes, I'd suggest using browns/golds, also purple shades look great. You can try browns, purples, blues.. but I'd stick to something simple that looks good at all times.
Blush- Since you already have tannish skin, you don't really need to use blush, but if you want to (esp. on special occasions), stick to something very light (pinkish) or peachy.
Lipstick- You can use different shades- I'd opt for something caramel or toffee-like (gold undertones for your tan/olive skin). Or try something light, pinkish (not bright, more like salmon color).
Lipgloss-- same as above. I'd suggest using a neutral color for your lips, particularly if you are doing up your eyes. I love Maybelline "Lip Polish" lip gloss in Baby Mauve. It's a light, sort of creamy/nude shade, which looks great w/my skin tone (also olive).
Keep in mind that if you're going to "do up" your eyes, you should keep your lip color simple...nude, cream, pinkish, etc..

Q: How does one obtain the day-after pill in California on a day when the family planning clinics are closed?

I agree with the previous collumnists; you can wait for up to 5 days to use Plan B..go first thing when the clinic re-opens. Another thing you might be able to do is go to the pharmacy (major companies like Rite Aid or Walgreen's) and talk to a pharmacist...they can try directing you to a nurse and may even be able to give you a prescription.I think that it's worth a shot.
**Added info: You can get Plan B in CA without a prescription, only if you're over 18--call the pharmacy in advance (thanfully we're both in CA!). If you're under 18, you need a prescription, but it's not hard to get one. I think by now you've gotten it taken care of, but if not, check out this website:

Q: nice subject right? haha, well.
ok, so i was just wondering cosim totally clueless about my vagina and i think i need to learn more about it. (btw; 15/f) well i was looking at it in a hand mirror and i have no idea where i would insert a tampon or where i would finger myself or where the penis goes. there was it tiny tube-like thing inside another whole and i dont know if that was where and i wanted to finger myself to kinda stretch it out but i didnt want to break anything. so, anyhelp?

It's a good thing that you're curious about learning more about your body- always safe, and a good idea, even in the long run. That said, the hole that a penis (tampon, finger...) goes into (obviously your vagina) is at the way bottom, hidden by the 'two lips' (labia majora)--it's separated from the anus by the perineum, a narrow skin barrier (kind of hard to explain), but you should get the picture. It might be useful for you to also look at some diagrams of the vagina online..but anyway, just remember it's the largest hole, way at the bottom of it all.

Do yourself a favor and get this checked out immediately. You may have a UTI (urinary tract infection). You should go get tested for a number of things- there's no way for anyone on this site to give you an accurate diagnosis. Since you did not use a condom, there is a chance you may have contracted an STD.. you never know, even when the guy says he's faithful (and I'm not implying your boyfriend isn't)..I'm just saying it's better to play it safe. In all likelihood, this could be a minor infection that can easily be cured with antibiotics. But again, only a health care provider can know for sure. Just explain to them your symptoms, and they'll likely do a urine test to let you know what's going on. And it's always a good idea to go "Double Dutch.," or using birth control pills AND a condom, to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy or STD's.

Q: I am 13 years old and ive had my period for just about a year now. I am fed up with using pads because they feel like diapers. My friends tell me tampons are very comfortable and you cant even notice them. Well I have tried putting them in. Umm It would get about halfway in and then whenever I push the thing u use to push the tampon in instead of pushing it in completely the plastic tube pushes backwards. I cant get it to work and it's really frustrating. I did it only one time before. Could someone please tell me what im doing wrong and how to get it to go in all the way?
Thank You so much

-The tampon consists of the applicator (where the actual tampon is), and the portion that you push into the applicator-which then releases the tampon. You have to use both hands when doing this:
Once you push the tampon in fully, make sure you hold the applicator firmly with one hand (using thumb and middle finger to grasp), and at the same time, push the end of the tampon (second tube) into the first one, using your index finger, or your other hand. This will release the tampon..all you have to do after is dispose of the tube. Some tampons are annoying and slippery and it's hard to get a firm grasp- usually cardboard tampons are like that. I usually use plastic tampons...a lot of tampons now have easy hold applicators- try Playtex gentle glid, or Tampax pearl. Once used correctly, you shouldn't feel it at all. Make sure to use a tampon that's suitable for the amount of flow, and change them every 3-6 hours as needed.
Here's a good website to check out that also includes useful diagrams:

I really like "Nad's" hair removal gel- it's this sticky green gel you use to wax, and it doesn't need to be pre-heated. It also includes washable waxing strips. It is a bit pricier than other products you can get at Target or drugstores.
Sally Hanson waxing kits are also good. They are microwavable and work really well. I've tried the Brazillian formula cream wax which is great. Veet is another good brand

Q: I want to know if there is a way to get my bf to touch my boobs but not take it any farther than that. I'm 15 and me and him have been going out for over a year. what should I do.

You can try gesturing that you're interested in having him touch your breasts when you two are making out. When you two start getting passionate, you can simply take his hand and lay it underneath your shirt- he should get the point and take it from there. After, you can make it clear to him that you aren't ready for anything else. But make sure not to get too caught up in the moment, since you pointed out that you don't want to go farther. Since you've been together for a long time, it shouldn't be difficult for you to communicate that to him. You can let him know that you like to do that from time to time, but are simply not ready to do anything below the belt.
Another thing you can do is talk to him about it before actually taking things further. You can casually bring it up with him- and let him know where you stand about the issue. You really like him, and would like to take things a little further, but not too far.

It's completely normal to pass blood clots while on your period- all women have them. I would suggest using a pantiliner or small pad in addition to using a tampon, since you say they often 'slip by.' I think that may be the only thing you can do, and I don't think that drinking water will help. You should make sure to take a multivitamin or eat food that are rich in iron during this time.
Women get the most blood clots during the heavy days of their period. I did read online that if you notice the blood clots are bigger than a quarter, you might want to talk to a doctor.
It's completely normal to get bloodclots, but you might want to read up on it to get more information.

I wouldn't recommend exfoliating every day...try two or three times a week. Don't use anything harsh, like the St. Ive's apricot scrub-the granules are way too big and shouldn't be used on your face. I'd recommend getting a scrub with tiny grains, like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming scrub..another good one is from Aveeno, which is a bit pricey. Try looking for something gentle, that's good for your skin type--e.g. if you have oily, acne-prone skin, there are also scrubs for that. If you have sensitive or normal skin, I'd steer clear of harsher scrubs.
You should exfoliate max. 3 times a week, and cleanse twice a day, morning and night. Some people cleanse once a day, before going to bed...and only splash water on their face in the morning. Depending on the person, I'd say it's better to cleanse twice a day. As for the scrub, it doesn't matter if you exfoliate in the morning or at night-it's a matter of preference.

For whatever reason, it seems that your parents are taking out their anger and frustration on you- of course, this is unfair and unacceptable of them. They might be stressed out from the divorce, work, etc., but by no means is their behavior justifiable. You can be the mature one and calmly (but FIRMLY) explain to them that you get hurt when they yell at you, and that you would rather they didn't do so. It may be hard for you not to get worked up and start yelling yourself, but trust me, if you remain calm, they're far more likely to listen to your request. If it doesn't work, next time if they yell at you, instead of breaking down, go to your room immediately and do something to calm yourself down--whatever you like: listen to music, draw, write,...etc. Try not to take it out on yourself, and remember that it's not your fault that they act that way.

Q: Okay, so I have a sort of rash on my stomach. It dosn't itch or anyhting. It's not distinct bumps, and they are really red. it's more splotchy, but not really big splotches. It has spread a little, and it really dosn't bother me, as in itching or hurting, but do you have any idea what it could be, how to get rid of it, or anything along those lines? There's no way for me to tell what it is just by reading the symptoms, but I'm guessing you might have an allergic reaction to something. It could be caused by a number of things, and it's most likely something minor. You should probably see a doctor about this so they can diagnose it and maybe prescribe something (cream or antibiotic). It's impossible for anyone on this site to diagnose anything- you've got to see a doctor or nurse about this. And don't worry, it's probably allergies or something along those lines. -actually stomach rashes can be caused by a number of things, so you should see a doctor and get something for it.

Q: I had a scary dream last night:
was looking in the mirror and there was this lil peice of skin hanging out of my face and i thought it was dead skin so I pulled it out then there was more then i kept pulling and pulling til i looked in the mirror and i had no skin on my face just blood everywhere..
Does anyone have a dream dictionary to tell me what my dream meant? I could look online but I don't know what word to look it up..

You can go online and google 'dream meaning' or something like that..
But from reading your description, the first thing I thought was that maybe the fact that you kept peeling off your face is symbolic of:
- trying to search for something that isn't there : you were unravelling your skin, and kept peeling and peeling (almost like a package). You may have been trying to search for something underneath all the layers of skin, but all that showed up was blood.
Maybe ask yourself if you really are searching for or longing for something. It could be anything at all- in your dream, the INSIDE/INTERIOR or you face could be something you were searching for in vain.
But anyway, this is just my interpretation of it-- I'm not an expert or anything, just my thoughts
:)
It might be interesting for you to search online or try finding a book about dream meanings.

Q: Ok, so everyone is told that we need a certain amount of sleep every night (usually 8 hours, sometimes more). My question is, does it matter if all X hours are in a row? Or is it equally healthy to, for example, sleep 6 hours and then take a 2 hour nap?
In case there is a difference, I am interested in knowing the answer to this question both from a general health point of view, and also in relation to muscle regeneration (following weight lifting/ fitness activities). Please do answer even if you only know one or the other.
Thanks.

Adults usually need about 8 hours of sleep- I think 8-9 hours is considered healthy, but getting too much or too little sleep is not a good idea.. it's best to stick to a sleeping schedule.
It's healthier to remain in a deep sleep for all 8 or so hours, rather than take a nap in between. ( or before/after). Your body (and mind) needs time to regenerate and be fully rested, so it's best to have a deep sleep. I did read somewhere though, that having an afternoon nap (20 min. or so) is actually a good idea, and keeps you more energized.
For your second question regarding fitness.. I'm not so sure about that, but I do know that my best hours of sleep were spent after excersizing- mind and body.

I am here to give honest advice, when I feel I have something to contribute. I try to be as empathetic and understanding as I can, as I know that the way something is said is as important as the message itself.
I usually advise on love/relationships, friendship and family issues, nutrition, and health (mental and physical). If I feel I can help out, there's not a whole lot I am unwilling to answer. Ask away!
