Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
My hair is not volumous, and it gets greasy pretty soon after I wash it. I use tressemmee, and I wash it every other day or sometimes everyday. Sometimes I blow-dry it, but mostly I let it naturally dry out.
I just don't know how these chicks on tv (not even celebrities) get their hair all perfectly volumous, shiny but not greasy, and wavy..
Aggravates me
Try using a "balancing" shampoo. They're designed to remove oil from your scalp but condition your hair. Aussue makes one called "Cleanse and Mend" or you could try Herbal Essences Drama Clean.
I make my hair shiny and smooth by using deep conditioners and shine serum, then using a straightener to smooth out any kinks. If you wash and straighten your hair properly, you can easily get away with washing it every other day. It helps to find the right shampoo, because it cuts down on how much you need to wash (and therefore, restyle) it.
Good luck!

Ok so for the last couple days when I urinate, it burns really bad, then at the end of the urine stream, a blood-colored substance comes out a little bit. And the urine is really cloudy and it smells horribly. And it feels like I always have to pee even right after I just did. I looked up the symptoms on WebMD...and I think I have a urinary tract infection...so I’m gonna go to the doctor and it says they give antibiotics to treat it...
My question is about the diagnosis of a UTI. On most sites I looked up it says they diagnose it with a urine sample.....so here’s my question:
When they run the tests on your urine for the UTI, do they cover any other standard tests?? Like do they test for other problems...or for drugs?
Also, has anyone that’s ever had a UTI, did they have to do a pelvic exam?
I’m female if that makes any difference.
Thanks!
Doctors typically test only for what they're looking for because lab tests can be expensive.
They aren't going to check for drug use if they're looking for a UTI. Unless you ask.
Okay so umma make a video and was wonderin if it's possible to fill a baby pool of jello and it take the form of jello. Or will it just be a big wet thing of colored water? Haha thx
You'd have to make it somewhere cold, like outside (but it might freeze) if you can make enough Jell-O to fill the pool and have it solidify, I'm sure it'd set up eventually.
Try asking a local school or business that you're friendly with if you can use their walk-in refrigerator for a couple hours (possibly overnight) And have something to roll it out on- cause it'll be heavy.

i just recently got an LG shine..i love it!
but..i switched from a razr..to the Shine..and my mom tell's me that if you use the phone while it's charging..then it will mess the battery up and stuff..and make it to where it cant hold a charge for very long.
so i dont use my new phone while it's charging..it's brand new..never been used..brand new battery...but..ill fully charge it at night..and then by the morning..the battery is almost dead..and it will go completly dead during my fourth hour class at school..why wont it keep a charge?
i talk to my boyfriend at night..and we sometimes fall asleep on the phone..and since mine is a slider..is it cause i'm keeping it open all night?
also..let's say that at night..after i've fully charged it..i talk on it for a while..and then i plug it back in during the same night..even when the battery isnt dead..would that mess the battery up?
thanks for all your help!
You're being way too paranoid. Batteries DO have a limited number of "charge cycles" but the wearing-out isnt often significant enough to notice- like an iPod battery. it wears out over time but it takes a long time to realize it. Talking on the phone while it's charging just makes it charge slower (which will give you a less effective charging time)
If it's already not holding a charge it might be defective, go back to the store and ask them to test it. One of my friends has that phone and it holds a charge forever.
What might really be going on is a lack of reception- in certain towns (and inside many buildings too) there simply isn't service. When your phone searches for a signal, the battery dies WAY faster, because all that searching kills the charge. So shut it off during the day (or at least when you're in a room without service) and you'll notice a big difference.

Was that creepy person thing with the accent and the weird braids, supposed to be a guy or a girl?
I don't think it tells you in the movie.
I'm just curious.
I think it was a woman.
From what I remember about that movie, they never figured it out for sure. That's part of the fun =P

so in order for me to be in my schools national honors society i have to have 20 service hours and they just now told us all the hours are due feb 6!!!! i dont know where to go! i love animals so maybe theres something to do with them but idk if that helps or not but there you go.
I do most of my NHS hours at my town's senior center. I file paperwork, clean and organize, check the bulletin board for outdated things... basic, simple things that the people working there simply don't have time for. During vacation or days off from school, ask if you can help with serving lunch. You get at least three hours each day- show up an hour or so early, and stay after to clean up) Also, consider asking a teacher at the school if they need something done that you could do, like cleaning out an office, washing sports uniforms, etc.
My chapter's advisor lets us do things at the school for hours (like if we hand out flyers at parents night or open house, we get service hours) If you know someone deeply involved with their church, see if there's a spaghetti dinner coming up or something like that.
Good luck!

i saw itunes plus when i visited the itunes store and i was wondering what is it and is it worth it?
Basically it means that the song you buy won't be protected. You won't have to use a password when you send it to someone else, or if you transferred your music to another computer.
If you're buying songs just for you, it won't make a significant difference. I don't think it's worth paying extra for it (I actually assumed it was the same price, that's all I've seen). If you want to play protected songs somewhere other than your iPod, burn a CD- it's easier.

as hard as i try, i cant stop biting my nails. I did for one year, then i started again, then i stopped, then 2 years later i stopped for a while, and now as hard as i try i just cant stop. I also bite my cuticuls, and im afraid i wont be able to stop until my nails are perminently dmamaged. any ideas??
I used to chew my cuticles constantly. I even chewed the sides of my fingers and ripped the skin off. It wasn't pretty. What worked for me was making my nails pretty (I hate wearing polish most of the time, so I just filed and buffed them instead) and rubbing polish remover wherever I would be tempted to bite, whether it was my nails or cuticles. The taste is terrible, and will most likely discourage you.
Or, vow to only bite the nails on one hand, then after a few days, say you'll only bite 4 fingers, then 3, then 2, then 1, then none! Chew sugarfree gum instead.
Good luck!

I dont have severly yellow teeth, but they could definitely be whiter. What products could I use to whiten them? I want to use crest white strips but I have braces so I dont know if it will work.
I would wait to whiten your teeth until after the braces are off, because you'll end up with yellow spots. For now, just brush your teeth with normal toothpaste & do what your dentist/orthodontist recommends.
so im going to get some tomorrow, my eyes need to be checked, a know nothing about this btw, so any advice? like do they hurt putting them on and taking them off? how much does it usually cost for eye exam and contacts. which contacts should i get? i really dont know a thing about this? let me know everything?
I won't repeat what you've already gotten.
I do recommend Acuvue Oasis, unless you need throwaway lenses. They kind of suck. My boyfriend needs them for work, but they pop out a lot. ANd they dry out really quickly compared to some others (if you forget to blink for whatever reason, they get uncomfortable)
If your eyes burn when you first put in contacts, you're probably sensitive to the solution you're using. Switch brands until it doesn't sting/burn anymore.
If you need anything else just ask, I've worn contacts for about a year now.

Ok, Does anyone know a good site to buy cheap books from... they don't have to be new... that doesn't matter in the slightest, but I was looking on ebay and there's so many books that I really want that aren't on there.
BTW the books I'm looking for are like teen fiction, but some adult fiction. [:

If you live in Central or Western Massachusets, all the libraries are connected and you can request books from ANY library.
What's the word that means like you're about to do something but you get caught up in talking to someone or something? Not procrastinating, I think it might start with an H? I don't remember.

i don't know what to get my boyfriend for valentines day. we've been going out for almost two months, and by valentines day it'll be almost three. i reeeally like him and i don't want to look stupid. what do you get guys for valentines day? any ideas?
I'm getting my boyfriend a big bowl of candy, a bunch of food, and a giftcard to a restaurant he likes (because he always pays! ALWAYS!). And "love cuffs" from CVS because we have running jokes about handcuffs, and I've only been able to buy decent, fake handcuffs from the spy museum in Washington, D.C. so he's getting cheap "I'm a prisoner to your love" ones for a dollar =D

Where can you find real uggs that are like orange, yellow, purple etc? i see them on ebay all the time, but what store do they sell them at? i can never find them.
I was on the website last week and found mostly neutral colors.
You can get fake ones from stores like Delia's and Alloy. And they're wicked comfortable.

I'm 15 (a sophomore in HS), and I have never really dated anyone. It's not that i don't like guys (i'm a girl if you couldn't tell), because i have in the past, but they just never seem into me. I mean i don't think I'm ugly or anything of that sort, and i have guy friends, so i'm not socially awkward. Am i being very paranoid, or is this common (or both?)?
I had my first "serious" boyfriend when I was sixteen. And honestly I don't regret that at all. I think it's very common to not date until highschool, or even later than that. It's nice to have a boyfriend, sure, but even when I was single I hung out with all my friends, even couples, and it wasn't awkward at all.
You're better off waiting for someone you want to date, rather than dating the first guy that shows some interest in you, just to have someone holding your hand at the movies.
So to answer your question, you're totally normal; don't worry =]

Where is a good place to get really cute sundresses. I'm looking for unique places. Not places that everyone knows about. For example, Forever 21 and charlote rouse(sp) everyone knows. I jsut want cute dresses that not a lot of people will have. Websites would be great. Also, even boutiques would be awesome. Thanks!!
Delia's and Alloy.

They have a limited number of retail stores, but the selection isn't nearly as good.

Consider asking your doctor for a prescription product like Retin-A or Clindamycin if nothing is working for you. Also, remember to moisturize because drying out your skin makes more oil, which makes more zits, which makes you dry your face out more, which produces more oil... it's a vicious cycle that must be stopped.
Another option is to stop treating your acne completely. Wash your face, and moisturize, and nothing else. One of my friends did this, and her acne went away almost completely. Good luck!

I want to get an eyebrow piercing. And I don't want to get it done without my mother knowing. I already talked about with my father and he's okay with the idea. Now I want to try to convince my mother into letting me get it done. but I dont know what to say or how to start the conversation because she's hard to convince. Any ideas?
Well, I don't know your mom. So I can't predict how she'll act. I'd just come right out and ask her. Say, 'Hey, how would you react if I got my eyebrow pierced?' If it'd be easier, try starting by looking at a magazine where someone has an eyebrow piercing [Pink does] and talk about how much you like how they look.
Make sure you've done your research, like side effects, scarring, etc. Know that its something you want done. If it would help to have your dad there too, ask for his assistance/opinion/reassurance.
Good luck!

okay, i seriously have the worst blackheads ever!
i try like 5 different products a day, and nothing works!
HELP! what can i do to get rid of them?
Ever used Biore Blackhead strips?
They're amazing.
Also, try a product with benzoyl peroxide. Supposedly it's better at removing blackheads.
If all else fails, ask your doctor or a dermatologist. Or, get a facial- specially trained people can pop them out without damage to your skin!
i'd really like to do something nice for my boyfriend, just because. something that doesnt cost a lot but means a lot.
i've made him a cd for him before of all the songs that remind of us each other.. and for the front and back cover i custom designed it with pictures of us. he loves it.. he listens to it everytime he's in his car.
i really want to do something else like that for him because he's such a great boyfriend and i want him to know how much he really means to me.
any ideas?
thanks a bunch! :)
My boyfriend basically never lets me pay for anything. I finally paid for movie tickets last week. It was an accomplishment. =)
Anyway, the little things are, in my opinion, what matters the most. Buy him a coffee (or whatever he likes to drink) when he doesn't expect it. Make crazy plans- or stay home and play games. Do what he wants to do (even if it means bugging him for three hours to decide what he wants). If he's always driving you around, pay for gas once in awhile. If you can drive, offer to drive for the day. Things like that.
You know your boyfriend way more than we do. Surely he's mentioned hobbies, interests, favorite TV shows, stores he likes. Buy him something related to that (that's within your budget) and he'll love that you remembered. Example: my boyfriend ripped the little thing off the top of his favorite baseball hat- long story. So at some point I'll buy him a new one!
And as a general rule, guys love food. Take him out to dinner, and insist that you foot the bill, not him.
Best of luck!
