Maybe your mom's period only lasts a few days, but many girls have periods that last 7-10 days and it's completely normal. For example, my period lasts 8-9 days, every time. Don't worry about it, you're fine!

Hey advicenators!! I need help on motivation:
well over the summer we need to read two books and do a book report on one of them. My school starts the 29 of aug. and i still havnt started either of my books. Im usually really good with this stuff and get it done before the first month of summer. But this year i just cant find motivation cuz the books suck and are boring. I dont want to have a bad fist impression on my teachers and not have it all done by the first week of school!! What do you suggest?? what can i do to motivate myself?

I suggest you just get your ass moving. You need to read the books -- nobody cares if you WANT to read it. You have to. Sounds a little harsh, but it's true.
After reading the books, try looking for the cliffsnotes or sparknotes (www.thespark.com) for the books.

Well, at my school you're allowed to bring a regular backpack to school, but not to class. During the school day, you're either supposed to carry your stuff around in your arms, or use a 'stringy' or drawstring bag like this one:

Hey. I'm going into the 8th grade, and I am striving for a 4.0 this year for all 4 quarters and Final. I badly want to get into the Science & Tech program at this highschool I want to go to. In 7th grade, I didn't do as well as I wanted to, and this year I need to make up for that by getting a 4.0 for all quarters. Prioritize. If schoolwork is this important, treat it like it is. Instead of hanging out with friends, make sure you get all your homework done first.
Study daily -- you never know when a teacher's going to give you a pop quiz!
Keep in touch with your teachers (even if you don't like them). In other words, talk to them about your schoolwork. If you're confused about something, don't be afraid to ask questions (if you're embarrassed to ask during class, ask afterwards). Let your teachers know of your goals and maybe they will have other tips for you!

How do you get your skin to look really healthy? I want mine to look like it's glowing and no acne and stuff. Is there anything I can eat or do?

Get a great face wash -- I use St. Ive's Apricot Scrub (you can get it for about $3 at any grocery store). Also drink lots of water. It hydrates your skin and helps give you that 'glowing' look.

Yes, you can. And you can also still have your period if you're pregnant -- it happens to a lot of women (my mother included, as well as my aunt, 2 of my cousins, and my best friend). So yeah, if you have even an IDEA that you could be pregnant, get a HPT (home pregnancy test).

i'm 14 years old, and i was raped about a month ago. my friend got helped me get a couple of pregnancy tests, and they all turned up positive. i'm really scared to tell my parents, because i was at a party that i wasn't supposed to be at when it happened. i'm a volleyball player for my school, and last year we almost won the championships. i don't want to throw my entire life away, but i know that i would never be able to put my baby up for adoption. i'd wonder every day if she/he was safe, or if they hated me for abandoning them. i'm strongly against abortion...but i'm starting to wonder if maybe that's the right choice in this situation. i haven't told either of my parents yet...should i keep the baby or is abortion ok sometimes?

Personally, I think you need to tell your parents. They need to know that you've been raped -- trust me when I say that they're not going to care where you were when it happened. They're going to be more concerned about you and the baby growing inside you (and pressing charges against the bastard that did this to you). You need to tell them.
Personally, I'm pro-choice. While I don't believe that "I screwed a guy without a condom and now I'm not going to take responsibility for my actions," is a good excuse to have an abortion, your situation is one of those tough ones. I think that if a woman is raped, she deserves to do whatever she wants to do with her body. Talk to your parents and see how they feel about it. You may all decide that the best option is to have an abortion, or you may choose to keep your baby. There are also adoption options in which you can remain in your child's life after it is born.
If you do choose to have an abortion, you have to keep some things in mind: first of all, it does cost money (though I'm not sure how much; you can look this up on your own). Also, it can have detrimental effects on your body (such as not being able to have a child in the future). And if you want to have an abortion, you may HAVE to tell your parents -- it depends on the state you live in. Some states have laws that require the parent to sign a consent form, and some will keep it completely confidential.
The decision is yours, but my advice is to tell your parents about the rape and discuss your options with them.

Anyway, a great way to find colleges that match your needs is to set up a profile at http://www.fastweb.com -- they have everything you need to get started looking for and applying for the right college. They can also help you find scholarships that match your profile (for example, you can get a scholarship for being normal and having a C average).
You should really check out the University of Richmond. They're the best school in the state, and among the top 10 in the nation (last I checked).

My course at university only allows me to take a certain number of credits (this is the same for all students, irrespective of how they do academically). There is this course I'd really like to do, but I've already got all the credits I'm allowed to take and there's nothing I can really drop. I like this course enough that I'm thinking of doing it despite the fact that I wouldn't be allowed to take the exam at the end and wouldn't get any creditpoints from it which would go towards my final graduating grade. Is this a stupid idea? I really can't see there being issues with me managing my time even with the additional load, as my current work load is really reasonable. On the other hand, I feel like I'd be wasting time doing an elective I'd get no credit for academically. It's by no means an easy course and it's not something that will be useful to me, it's just something I'm interested in. Is it worth taking on more just because it's interesting?

You could always take the course next year, right? So why not wait?
But I guess if you don't want to wait that long (or if this is your last year at university), you can go ahead and take the course. As long as you're not breaking any rules or taking on too much coursework, I think it's an okay idea. And you can always drop the class if it gets to be too much, right?

I am 13/f and my parents won't let me remove the hair on my legs. I do anyway but only with a temporary razor that doesn't belong to me. Okay, first of all, I wouldn't suggest going behind your parents' back... it's wrong and will only get you into more trouble.
Also, if this is a religious issue and your religion tells you that you're not supposed to shave, then I'd suggest leaving it alone as well.
Otherwise, you should talk to your parents. Tell them that the hair on your legs makes you uncomfortable, and that you want to do it in order to feel more comfortable with yourself. But if they say no... well then I don't know what to tell you.

A great place to get relatively inexpensive bedspreads is Target... you can also check out Wal-Mart and places like that. They have lots of colorful, fun stuff that will lighten up the room a little and bring out the color of the wood!

Ok I have a really small plain room and it gets veeeery messy. the amount of space when its CLEAN to walk in is even smaller than a walk-in closet! And I can't move out any of the furniture because they're all nailed into the wall! What can I do to make it less messy and make it look nicer? Okay, it sounds like you need a little organization, but you also need fun.
The first thing you should probably do is rid yourself of clutter -- are there things in your room that you really dislike and want to get rid of or put in storage? This could be anything from your 4th grade yearbook picture to books that you haven't read in years. Instead of putting pictures in frames on your desk, hang them on the wall. Removing clutter can make your room look a lot cleaner, even when it isn't!
Next, you should get some storage containers. You can get lots of cheap, cute storage containers from Target or Wal-Mart. You can put things like extra school papers, magazines, even clothes into these containers. They don't take up a lot of space, but they can house a LOT of crap!
With the space that you've cleared by putting stuff away, you can put new stuff (but not a whole lot of it). You don't want to remove clutter just to put more in its place. Be selective about what you put where -- this is your room, and you want it to reflect your personality.
Getting a new area rug can sometimes make your room look smaller. Try one that is colorful and reflects what makes you, you.

..There's this guy I really like. I'm 14 years old and he's 17. We used to just be " buddies " and he used to talk to me about the girls that he liked but I knew that he would never in a million years talk about me that way. Boy, was I wrong.
