my room!!!

Question Posted Thursday July 21 2005, 9:28 pm

Ok I have a really small plain room and it gets veeeery messy. the amount of space when its CLEAN to walk in is even smaller than a walk-in closet! And I can't move out any of the furniture because they're all nailed into the wall! What can I do to make it less messy and make it look nicer? It's so, well, PLAIN and I'm not even allowed to paint it. I like lava lamps and miniature desk water fountains and things like that if it helps!!!! thanx a lot, I will rate high for anyone who gives a reasonable answer

You should consider having storage boxes rather than cabinets to minimize the space needed. You should also paint your wall with light and cool looking color to make the atmosphere more cooler looking. Avoid radiant, Dark and hot color. For storage boxes option you can visit this:

the key to living in a small room is: organization. Keep everything neatly in boxes or on shelves and things that you don't use often, store in clear plastic storage bins and stick it under your bed (if possible) or in your closet. Throw out anything you don't like or need - seriously consider all the things you have and ask yourself, "Does this deserve a place in here?" If the answer is no, toss it. You can look online for inexpensive crafts to make - I made a wishing well pen holder from an old soup can and popsicle sticks that was cheap, keeps my pens and things tidy and looks adorable. Filling your room with personalized things will make it look nice and as long as you limit yourself to small things or things that can be hung, there should be no problem. Happy decorating!

Okay, it sounds like you need a little organization, but you also need fun.
The first thing you should probably do is rid yourself of clutter -- are there things in your room that you really dislike and want to get rid of or put in storage? This could be anything from your 4th grade yearbook picture to books that you haven't read in years. Instead of putting pictures in frames on your desk, hang them on the wall. Removing clutter can make your room look a lot cleaner, even when it isn't!
Next, you should get some storage containers. You can get lots of cheap, cute storage containers from Target or Wal-Mart. You can put things like extra school papers, magazines, even clothes into these containers. They don't take up a lot of space, but they can house a LOT of crap!
With the space that you've cleared by putting stuff away, you can put new stuff (but not a whole lot of it). You don't want to remove clutter just to put more in its place. Be selective about what you put where -- this is your room, and you want it to reflect your personality.
Getting a new area rug can sometimes make your room look smaller. Try one that is colorful and reflects what makes you, you.
♥ Hope I helped.

OK well start by bringing in some boxes in your room lay them on your bed if there is seriously no room but they don't have to be big. Name them: Donate, Trash, Keep, Give, Undecided, Collections. Divide your room into areas...bed/closet/desk...etc. work an area at a time and throw the items into its proper box. After that you can dust clean vacum or whatever the area and put the stuff bakc neatly. Do this per area i do it once a month for donating to poor people toys, clothes and other things.

Decorating depends on what you like if you like sports add some banners and balls or poster. Dance- glitter, musical notes, CD's that are blank or you dont listen to anymore glue them togther by the label print. hang them on your air vent. Mobiles are great you can make or buy for a reasonable price. I have lots of ideas but I need to know what you like. Hope this helps.

Wow. Uhh... I'm assuming you are a pack-rat, no offense, so you will have to let stuff go. If not, you need storage containers. It's easy enough to make them go w/ a color theme in your room. With the walls, Ask your parents if you can tack up some material along the bend where the ceiling and the wall meet. If you do it right, your room will look bigger. In any case, look through your stuff and get rid of things you probably won't ever use or need again.

Maybe a border that you can remove would brighten things up and some curtains and mirrors can add alot of depth to even a tiny room. Try to do something with that clutter though and it will help alot. Remember, with small rooms less is more when trying to make it look larger.

they actually have like "wall stickers" I have some. you can put them onto the wall, and they are easy to remove! you could get some super cool posters :) and get some groovy sotrage bins to keep the clutter under control. its like a normal everyday make-over for yourself, only on your room! spice it up with some color and accories, and keep it clean! :)

ooh! I know! you can get some of those nifty rope lites, or some other cool lites. Christmas lites! those would be cheep now too! and I used to put those up in my room! you could ask if you can put a nail or a tack in your wall, up at the top by the celing, and then put them all the way around your room! that would look so cute! then it would look like your walls are painted too when you turn on the Christmas lights!

have fun!

If you can't pain your walls, maybe try hanging posters, photographs, and mirrors to decorate it. Try bringing in more colors with your bedspread, lamps, and curtains. Go through your room and throw out everything you don't want and have no use for. Try to get more storage bins that can easily be hidden underneath your bed. And since you can't paint your walls, maybe you can talk your parents into letting you paint the furniture? To get all of the little nick-nacks in your way, build shelves to display them. In my room, I bought paper lights that hang from the ceiling. They come in all different shapes and colors and designs. You can get these at Target or Earthbound (if you have one). I hope I helped!

The best thing to do is to add cool colors like green, purple and blue and mirrors. You should def. add different mirrors to make your room really funky and cool. Another way to make your room look bigger is to have less (less is more). Less books, cds etc. Throw away items you don't need or haven't used in a long time. Also try to limit your items like throw away one piece of clothing thats 2 small or you don't like and add a new piece of clothing. For the painting problem its fine just add a lot of cool colored stuff like throw pillows or posters or lava lamps etc. Try to keep it clean keep a schedule and stick to it.
Good luck and Hope this helped!!!!!

MELiixMARiiE answered Friday July 22 2005, 2:03 pm:
Well what I would suggest is getting some mirrors maybe for your walls cause that will help make your room look bigger, and also bright colors do too. So even though you're not allowed to paint your walls, change the color of your bed sheets, pillows, etc. What I would also suggest is maybe putting stuff in boxes and putting them under your bed, or buy some little drawers to maybe put at the bottom of your closet. And since your walls are plain, maybe put some posters up or maybe make a little mural or something that you love like beaches, animals, etc. And the most important thing you should do is just try and get rid of whatever you don't want. Even though you might like it, just think," Do I REALLY need this for my room?" and then get rid of it ( that's what I have to do sometimes.) And maybe next to your bed, if you don't already have one, but a cute little nightstand and put a minitaure desk fountain if you want, or the lava lamp ( and try getting a lava lamp that matches the room color ). If you would like to IM me for more help, please IM me at.. MELii x MARiiE . Hope I helped!!

MELii

well if you have a window, put in a sheer treatment with a cool color so when the sun shines in it will turn that color. i would get rid of stuff i dont want or get stuff to store it in (i like the underbed storage idea!) anything you can change, do it!! colors for bedding, pillows, anything!! you could hang up cds from the wall or ceiling to give the mirrior affect. you could make a beaded curtain from stuff you can find around the house too. have fun! <3

Adding mirrors will help the space appear bigger. Bright or light colored fabrics on your bed and window treatments will also make the room appear bigger. Consider investing in underbed storage boxes and a closet organizing system to keep your stuff neat and offer you more space to store things without sacrificing space.
