Finding the right college

Question Posted Monday July 18 2005, 6:19 pm

I'm going to be a junior in high school this coming year. I'm starting to search for colleges. I plan on majoring in psychology and I'd like to find a college in Virginia or around D.C. How to I find the right college for me? What sort of things do I look for? Thanks in advance!

well, narrow down your chioce by finding out which colleges offer a good program in what you're interesting in. Then decide what type you're looking for. For example, small, large, city, town, class sizes. Things like that.

Dear God, YOU'RE ME! I'm a Virginian, planning on majoring in psychology, and hoping to go to college near my hometown in VA. Wow.
Anyway, a great way to find colleges that match your needs is to set up a profile at [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) -- they have everything you need to get started looking for and applying for the right college. They can also help you find scholarships that match your profile (for example, you can get a scholarship for being normal and having a C average).
You should really check out the University of Richmond. They're the best school in the state, and among the top 10 in the nation (last I checked).

♥ Hope I helped.

First, outline what you want in a college. Does prestige matter to you? Location, like in a ticy, or rural area? Class size? Extracurriculars, sports, societies? Figure out kind of what you need in a college, what you strongly want, and what you'd like, but can do without. Then, you can either search for individual colleges in the Virginia/D.C. area, or, and this is what I would suggest, go to Fastweb.com and enter some information into their college search. They taylor colleges (and scholarships, if you want) to your interests, and then prepare a list of links and information about each one. It's really helpful, and it's all free. You'll have plenty of time to get this all in order, your junior year is the perfect time to start. Good luck! :)

alot of high schools have a "making your college search count" assembly near the end of your junior year. it give you all of the need to know information. but basically, dont let money decide where you go because there are a million ways to get around that. and research colleges where you want to go to see which has the best reputation for your major. then visit those colleges and decide from there.

These sites will allow you to do a college search based on location, characteristics of the school, even majors offered.

You can find information on psychology, what to expect, advice on school, financial aid information, etc on the following site. It's the American Psychological Association website.

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Once you're done your college search to determine which colleges you like, see if it's financially possible for you to go to this college. See what financial aid they offer. Many colleges offer partial, if not full, financial aid.

Take the time to go on campus tours. This will give you an idea of whether you will like the college. Talk to students majoring in Psychology and ask them about the teachers and curriculum. The admissions office can usually set this up for you when you call about a campus tour.

Good luck in your schooling and chosen profession. I wish you the best.

Go to google.com and type in collages in Virginia then do it over again and type in collages in D.C. You should look for things you are instrested in like sports or stuff. If you like to swim see if they have a swimming pool or a good swim team! Look to see if they have good teacher and see what grade of school they are. Good Luck and happy Gradeuation!
