I am 48 years old (yes that's old compared to some of you).
I have worked in nursing and/or healthcare management positions for 24 years. Primarily OB, Neonatal, Mental Health, Occupational Health and Geriatrics. In Jan 2008 I started my own business to board horses and do equine/human education. I am also a certified dog trainer.
I've been around the block so to speak and seem to be always helping others. I've been told that the reason people seek me out for advice is that I am approachable and caring. But on the same token even though I consider the person's feelings. I tell it like I see it. I've dealt with people in trouble with the law, dysfunctional families such as those with abuse & marriage problems. Not to mention problems with employees and employers.
I don't ever claim to know it all, and always keep an open mind.

so i bought No Doz the other day. and i heard that it worked pretty good. but i want to know if anyone has ever used it and if so how did it work?
and would no doz be unhealthy??

Like the previous advice giver said..NO-DOZ is caffiene. If I remember correctly 1/2 of a tablet of No-Doz has the same amount of caffiene as a cup of coffee. When I was 19 and on a long car trip. I took No-Doz, I probably took more than the recommended dose and I remember that it made my heart beat really fast--but I was so very tired and I fell asleep anyway, thank goodness there was another driver! I wouldn't recommend it and will give you a link with the side effects. It's much better to eat right, exercise and sleep right so you wouldn't need to take a "stay awake pill" For those that have an undiagnosed heart condition, they could be headed for serious trouble by taking such a concentrated amount of caffiene.

Well, okay so i have a distant cousin. and I'd always just use the term of 1st cousin , 2nd cousin, 3rd cousin, etc. Because i didnt get the meaning of like first cousin once removed. Well If you have a first cousin twice removed, Does that mean you are more related to him as if you were related to a 2nd cousin once removed? I always wondered that and thought if there was anyone out there that knew. And if the answer to that question is yes, does the "removed" mean you are less related then like a first cousin in general? Just thought I'd ask cause i was curious. haha. thanks! Yes, the removed does mean that you are less related. If your Grandparents, and your cousin's Great Grandparents are the same, you would be first cousins once removed.
If you are of the same generation--the "removed" is not relevant..for example if you share the same Great Grandparents..you will be 2nd cousins.
But if your Great Grandparents are the Great Great Grandparents of your cousin..you would be 2nd cousins once removed.

I really like this guy that I used to work for. I've known him for almost two years, and was originally just friends with him. In about the last six months my feelings have changed. He was my supervisor, but since June, he has not been. I still talk to him at the least almost weekly, but don't really see him all that much, and there's really no reason for me to as he is no longer my supervisor. I'm not entirely sure of his age because he is a closed off type of guy, but he could be more than ten years older than me (if so, not much more than that as we are POSITIVE he is in his thirties) (that's how closed off he is, people who have known him for more than ten years aren't sure of his exact age) Anyway, I'm pretty sure the whole crush is hopeless, however I'm a die-hard optimist, and am clinging for hope. Any advice would be great.
It sounds like this guy is emotionally unavailable. Are you sure the "crush" isn't about the challange? My advice is to be careful because any advance you make at work could be misconstrued as sexual harrassment. Perhaps for starters you could invite him out to eat with you and a group of friends. It's safer that way. You might be able to get to know him better in a non work environment. If you want to find out his age bring up topics that include the year you were born, or the age of siblings or the year of highschool graduation. Most people will talk freely of these things.

Aubree is a pretty name....so why not go with A names for a boy too? Aaron, Adam, Andrew? Traditional..but sound so masculine. By the way, don't put the cart before the horse, you might be dissapointed.
hey im 13-f and i love my mom more than anything. shes older than most moms thi-shes about to turn 55.. i no most moms with 13 year old kids are lik in there 40's... my mom has great health.. she doesnt do drugs she excercises almost everyday and she eats right. im just scared of her getting older.. i just always want her to be young which i no isnt possible but i always want her to be able to have fun and be mobile and everything. i guess im just scared of death and her getting older.. just the thought of her being like 60 and me only being 18 scares me. cuz im scared that she wont be able to excercise as much.. i dont know.. and i always like do the math like ok when im 20 she already be like 62.. and shell be 80 when im only like 38 or somethin.. i just love her more than anything and i dont want anything to ever happen to her. i just need like a pep talk or somethin idk... just help me. please.. i just love her sooo much
Since you can't change your Mom's age, don't worry about it. We should only dwell on things that we can change. If your Mom is taking care of herself she will most likely live a long and healthy life. I work in assisted living, and many kids who are in their 40s have parents in their 80s. Feel blessed to have an "older" mom because life experience teaches us a lot, and your Mom is probably more stable due to her age. These days people are living longer healthier lives...and 50 is the new 30. After working with the elderly all day--and having many employees in their 50s..55 seems so young! Bless you for loving your Mom so much...you deserve a hug!

Being happy always starts within ourselves. Objects will not make you happy, people will not make you happy, it's only you who can make you happy. Join a group or a club where you will learn something new, and look forward to attending meetings. Some possiblities are church youth groups or 4-H. There is a point in trying...while no one is happy every day, there will be good days ahead of you.
I am looking for a breed of dog (mixed is fine) that is especially good for children, and it would be great if it did not shed much. Thanks for any suggestions!
A Shi Tzu doesn't really shed, and can be good with kids if socialized at a young age with children. They are pretty much a lap dog, and usually have a gentle disposition.
I have recently found a cat and her three kittens living under my neighbors shed. Me and my friends have been feeding them cheese and tuna, but we are running low on that. So I was wondering what other things cats likes to eat other than tuna and meat, is there any type of bread they'll like or vegetable. Anything would work..Also the kittens do approach me but everytime I try to pet them they run away but the mother isnt afraid how do I get them to allow me to pet them?
Cats are carnivores, meaning their main diet is composed of meat. If they are hungry enough they may eat bread, but I doubt if they will eat any veggies. If you don't plan to find homes for the kittens and the mama, you should call animal control who can help do that. You will be doing them a favor because they need their shots and to be checked out by a vet. If the Mother appears healthy, most likely the kittens are healthy too, but once the immunities from the Mother wear off they can get sick. When you feed them, just sit by quietly and watch, that way they associate the presence of a human with food--which is a good thing. Eventually you may be able to get them to come closer and take the food when it is by you. Eventually they may take it from your hand.
hi,i know this is long, but you'll be helping innocent creatures instead of me. well today i went in to a pet shop that i have only ever been to once before. i never knew that they sold livestock, untill i heard biirds chirping for the first time. i went over and saw wide but short cages holding birds. first i saw somethings called a "rainbow pennat rosera" or something along those lines. it had a medium cage but was all puffed up, and it actually looked really dirty, like it had been rolling in dry dirt, and its feathers were all puffed up. i dont know if they are supposed to look like that as ive never seen (or heard of) that breef before. next i saw budgie, about 10 of them in 1 cage, it was maybe 3 feet wide and really short. next i saw about 5-8 cockatiels in the same type of cage. the bird would have hit its head on the top if the perch was any higher. i dont know if these are signs of a bad shop, but they seem pretty bad. is there anything i can do for these creatures who deserve a better home? my friend thought of a really crazy idea, where he records the birds on his phone and if they tell us not to record, they are hiding something. should we try it? also i thought i would add that there was a healthy looking green parrot on the counter, that was chirping away. do you think that they put the 1 healthy bird in a big cage at the front so people think its of high standards?
Usually when a bird "puffs" his feathers and doesn't flatten them back out this is a sign that the bird is not well. Like any animal that is kept in a cage the cage should be big enough. If there is a Humane society in your area, call them if they can't help they will tell you where to call. If there is not one in your area call the State health department and they should be able to point you in the right direction. Perhaps with concerns of the bird flu they will respond anyway. I agree..they are showing off the healthy bird to make the shop appear better.

If you are giving yourself a bruise, I can only assume you intend to falsely accuse someone of abuse or assault. By doing so, that is a crime. If you are giving yourself a bruise so you can tell a "lie" thats wrong. In fact, I have this feeling you might be the girl who wants to have her stepdad thrown in jail. To be honest, I didn't believe that story anyway! If I am right, then I suggest that you get help. If I am wrong, Oh well...but I read between the lines very well, so I highly doubt I am wrong.
i mfrom the seattle area and we have like folklife and hempfest and bumbershoot and all that stuff and whenever i go then i always see a ton of people who smoke weed on the field and stuff just completely out in public. and i was wondering if anyone knew if they could get in trouble for that, or if its aloud since theres so many people doing it, the police cant really take control of it or something?
Yes people can get in trouble for this. They could take control if they really wanted to, but they probably have bigger things to worry about. I mean if someone is not acting out disorderly, or driving a car under the influance of drugs..why bother with a little bit of pot used for recreation when someone is selling Meth down the street? They have to 'triage' their priorities due to limited resources, and apparently unless something gets out of hand this is not a priority.

There are several things this could be, but if you've had it before--and it is near your mouth it most likely is a cold sore. It would be a good idea to go to your Dr to get an accurate diagnosis. Also there are new treatments available by prescription that can shorten the healing time.

A short given name, usually goes better with a longer sir name. Due to the number of syllables, I like the way Jack Stapleton sounds. The entire name doesn't sound bad hypenated either.

Simple answer from a former OB nurse: No it is not necessary to breast feed. Formula will work just fine.

I am surprised you have brought your baby home from the hospital without a name, I thought they had to have one for the birth certificate. Oh well! If you like Nikita, use that name. There are a lot of sites on the internet for baby names. Do a google search and see what you come up with. It should be a personal choice and not influenced by others.
about 3 months ago, i was diagnosed with leaukemia=[. the doctor told me that i am gonna die after my 8th month. is he allowed to tell me this? he just flat out said... " in about 8 months your gonna die ", he made me my mom my dad and my brother cry. so anyways.... can he tell me this... and can i like sue him for it?

The physician is giving his opinion, because certainly no one knows for certain when you will die. It is unfortunate that it was said the way it was said, but yes he is allowed to give you his opinion. Some physicians--and lay people alike are not very good at breaking bad news. I for one never have felt right about estimating how long someone has to live. For one thing, it hardly ever holds true. In some cases, it will make that person mentally stronger and want to fight for their life, but in other cases it will make people give up. There are people everywhere who have fought against every kind of cancer imaginable and have won that battle. It would be good if you could prove your Dr wrong, even though you may not be able to win a law suite for an incorrect opinion.

Well, my birthday is in 3 days. I'm turning 14.
My friend Jessica is supposed to come along with my 4 other friends. Jessica hasn't contacted me in 2 days and she didn't even mention my party. I invited her and she said she can most likely come!
But now I want to invite my friend Anne, but I'm not so sure I should because Jessica will get rather mad at me! I'm afraid she'll show up or call if I invited Anne, and I don't want her getting mad because I invited someone else because she didn't call me about it. That's the only reason I would have invited Anne, because Jessica hasn't contacted me in any way.
What should I do!?
Invite anyone you want, no matter what the others say. The ones that don't go to the party or are mad about who you invite are only acting immature. These are childish games for 10 year olds. "I am not going if such and such is going"..the ones that don't go will sit home pouting and thinking about how much fun they are missing. That's okay...let them. The next time you have a party maybe they will think twice about how they acted. The important thing is to treat everyone fairly, and everyone equally. Happy Birthday!
Last night my step-dad beat me. He's done it before, but last night was the worst it has ever been. I called the police and they came to examine me, but they didn't find any marks. But TODAY my face is REALLY swollen and bruised up. What should I do to make him get in the trouble that he deserves? I can't call CPS because I've already had three cases with all of them with the same problem, but they have all been dropped. I'm tired of being hit and I want him in jail.
I am wondering why the cases were dropped? It seems as if CPS is over zelous these days..so that surprises me. Did you at least have red marks last night? Most contusions will at least be red first. What does your Mom say, can you talk to her? If you have no where else to turn, go to your physician and see what can be done. By law he has to report the incident. While you are there ask for counseling too, it may help you come to terms with what is happening and aleviate some of your worries.
I just came back from my ten year highschool reunion. Everyone was really nice and I had a suprisingly good time. I was really unpopular in highschool back then. Well everyone was nice except for this one guy. He was the most popular guy in the class back then and had a huge ego. He also knew I had a crush on him and was pretty mean back then. Well he showed up with his arm around his new wife and the whole time ignored me and never said hi or apologized to me (I didnt think he would). The strange thing though was although he never talked to me and was showing off his wife the whole night; I kept catching him staring at me when no one else was talking to him. Do you think he still remembers what a jerk he was? Although I was really dressed up and looked hot so he may have been checking me out.
Well, you didn't really say what he did to you back then, but maybe in his mind he feels he has nothing to apologize for. People like this are often narcissists and only concerned about themselves. If it appeared he was showing off his wife, you are probably right. That was only to make himself look better. Sure if you are "hot" now, he probably was checking you out, he probably does remember that you had a crush on him. He obviously thinks he's "all that" and was enjoying every minute of the subtle attention you were paying to him. Just be glad you didn't get hooked up with this guy. Karma--you know, he will get what's coming to him someday!

The size around may vary, (which is the 32-34) that you are referring to, but for your age, you are average for cup size. As an older teen and adult you may grow to a B cup. I'd say that you have nothing to worry about, and just be happy because you will always find clothes that fit nicely.
